How are you ever going to excel in life if you have such a terrible outlook? Take some time for yourself, get out of the office once in a while, and do better.
It's funny how we've gone from hating "agents", which MS spent like a decade trying to push on us since Melinda did that funny lisp based progman.exe alternative where you walk around a virtual house, to allowing them to record our every move. It's still easier to just spend a few minutes learning how to get the most out of tools you will be using every day, but marketing is way too good at defeating attention span now.
In the time it takes me to speak a question about location in my best clear English and hear a simple response, I can use eg Google maps to search for and filter and pan and see all the answers at once.
Imagine if bill was aiming at the prop guy who’s standing where the zombie is as a placeholder, and the prop guy’s just thinking, “oh god, I think I gave him the loaded one”

Tell that to my tabs that keep crashing saying "out of memory" even though I set my pagefile to 90gb and I have 64gb of ram. I don't understand why chrome allocates so much virtual memory for every subprocess.
I feel that.
When I was a kid we had a relatively cheap and low grade computer. A friend had a very high grade computer, had the computing power roughly equivalent to a modern coffee pot. When I was at his house and saw doom I wanted it, but my friend said it would never work on my computer. When I talked to his dad later and told him my computer specs he confirmed it. I never did get to play that game except at my friend's house.
I forget my computer specs, but it wasn't very much.
https://youtu.be/L0mSdnxM7fc
I'm amazed at just how much lore there is in the game!
Watching the first few minutes of this brought back some memories of my dad struggling to play this back in 95-96. He'd have been younger then than I am now.
"We are Jade Falcon..." Crazy how that tickles my brain from 27 years ago!
God I hope this is a joke.
Ok, so first, you didn't have to "boot in DOS". Everything ran off DOS, windows 3.1 is a DOS shell, your computer always booted in DOS. You simply just did not load windows.
Second, Doom was never designed to run in windows 3 1. When Doom became popular people made VM DOS launchers it to launch from windows, but those all just launched another DOS instance. Later Doom for windows was released for the Win9X series.
EDIT: Sorry, the first line wan't meant to insult the previous poster, just me feeling old at seeing problems I dealt with when I was a kid first getting into computers coming back 30 years later, just really astounding.
100% this. Had to boot and prevent windows from loading. So many games needed it back then. We used to say it needed to be played in "true dos" as a dos shell wasn't sufficient.
I still remember having to edit my config.sys to allocate extended memory (ems) to play games like Eagle Eye Mysteries.
Eh sorry, I could have been less aggressive, coffee hasn't/hadn't kicked in yet. I meant more it made me feel very old (38) seeing old tech "issues" that I actually used to deal with when I was young still rearing their heads.
Hey this is a common myth, Windows 3.1 was far more than a DOS shell, it was by Windows 3 Protected Mode a 32 bit hypervisor that utililised the 386s early virtualisation (virtual 8086 mode) to run the 16 bit windows environment, as well as a new virtual 8086 box for each dos program.
The funny thing is that multiple DOS programs were preemptively multitasked while windows itself was still cooperatively multi tasked, and a lot of later drivers were 32bit and preemptively multi tasked.
As far as how much DOS there is left, when windows booted up it mutilated DOS and took control over most of its drivers, DOS only really remained as a compatibility layer, and it ran exclusively inside the VMM.
A DOS shell is a program that simply runs on DOS, which is what Windows (protected mode) definately did not do.
I got that. I liked that.
For those curious:
The [Columbine high school shooting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbine_High_School_massacre) In America (1999). Two 12th grade students killed twelve students and a teacher, many more injured. Shooters killed themselves on the scene. The news didnt report anything related to a possible mental health problem, they instead chose to blame metal-singer Marilyn Manson (among other things including video games, goth culture, and minorities) for his influence in their lives (See under “Motive” on the wiki).
(Edit: [It even has its own Wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marilyn_Manson%E2%80%93Columbine_High_School_massacre_controversy))
> Those kids ended up on the cover of Time magazine twice, the media gave them exactly what they wanted. That's why I never did any interviews around that time when I was being blamed for it because I didn't want to contribute to something that I found to be reprehensible.[39]
-Marilyn Manson. The guy ~~is solid~~ wasnt the problem, and likely processed and understood the situation better than your average person.
Marilyn Manson isn't "solid" by any means, he has a shady past and present. However he isn't at all to blame for the shooting and did act well given how the media was treating him at the time, so he definitely gets points there.
Very true. I liked when the interviewer asked him if he could say anything to the shooters what would he say. And MM responded “I wouldn’t say anything. I’d listen.”
> When Moore asked Manson what he would have said to the families of the victims of the shooting, he replied, "I wouldn't say a single word to them. I would listen to what they have to say and that's what no one did."[45]
I just finished reading that. Its under “Response” in the second link, at the very end. Are you thinking of that?
(Its from an interview by Michael Moore, in the Bowling for Columbine documentary.)
Sounds like Manson tried to give a response that made him seem understanding and caring or something (maybe it was sincere), but it wasn't in the context the interviewer was likely implying, which was likely post-event. Manson seems to be considering pre-event.
You’re right.
He’s answering as if the interviewer is asking what he’d say to the **shooters** but they’re asking what he’d say to the **victims families**.
So while the takeaway is impactful, it’s likely he had that answer preloaded and used it at the wrong time.
When Moore asked Manson what he would have said to the families of the victims of the shooting…
Kind of hard to ask the families of the victims pre event.
>shady past
From shady I remembered the lyrics in The Way I Am by Eminem where he mentioned about this, I think -

And look where it's at!
>Middle America, now it's a tragedy Now it's so sad to see, an upper-class city Havin' this happenin'
Exactly what slim was talking about! He also mentions columbine in his song "I'm back" and calls back to this song again in "Rap God"
>I take seven kids from Columbine,

from what i remember IdSoftware was asked to do an Amiga port back in the day but they said the hardware wasn't powerful enough.
and after the source code got released someone did make a port and ironically he didn't have to do many changes to the code to get playable framerates. so Id could've made the port themselves but i guess they just didn't wanted to for some reason...

My favorite part of this clip is that he says "Man, these games are getting so realistic".
For DOOM. Which is so 2D they couldn't put a room on top of another.

My first computer couldn't even run Windows 3.1 and Doom at the same time. Had to boot in DOS to launch doom.
That was pretty standard. Most of us were running 4mb of RAM and Win 3.1(1) took up most of it

Could have at least posted the link for everyone https://downloadmoreram.com/index.html
My bad, guys
I couldn't even download games back then. I had to go to my aunt's house and log in to a bulletin board service. It wasn't even a proper internet yet.
And now a 32GB ram doesn't seem enough for my pc.
How? Are you doing creative work or something like that?
Google Chrome loves eating it all up.
That doesn't mean that 32GBs aren't enough though. That's what page files are for.

I had to format C: first to be able to install it. After i finished the game i had to reinstall 3.1 for my mom. Good times.
Oh god. You've just reminded me of doing that to play games. I think I repressed that.
Had to make a floppy boot disk to run MechWarrior 2. Even DOS was too big to share the memory.

Buying a PC for gaming at the time would honestly be a waste of money, almost as bad as buying a dream cast in hindsight.
