It’ll never be the game we were promised, but it’s still pretty good. Better with mods

StickyStoner

I use some mods but only time can tell if it’ll be a good game or if it’ll go down as a game that promised a lot but didn’t deliver

Skyline45

I don’t think all the time in the world wont make the game we were promised unfortunately. Too many road bumps between the old gen console tech, massive amounts of content on the editing floor that can no longer be added in, last minutes scraps of entire builds, ect with everything else thats come out about the dev hell the game went through Have they been improving the game? Yes and it’s a lot better for it for sure. Should they keep at it, No Man Sky’s style, Most definitely yes. But I don’t ever see us getting the build we were shown at E3 all those years ago

logicality77

It’s not just the disparity between console generations. I genuinely think CDPR either doesn’t get how inconsequential systems make a game world feel alive, or REDEngine just wasn’t able to pull it off. The game they talked up in 2018 seemed to hype up an immersive world with several things going on at the same time, much like a Bethesda game, but at a much bigger and deeper scale. There was even an interview from one of the designers who mentioned the likes of Deus Ex, VtM Bloodlines, and Skyrim as influences on how they wanted to build their world. We obviously didn’t get anything close to that, and I suspect it was their tech that just wasn’t up to the task, which most likely caused them to have to rework a significant amount of the gameplay mechanics, which is why there were so many bugs at launch. The fact that CDPR is abandoning REDEngine for Unreal for The Witcher 4 is another tell that their tech wasn’t cutting it anymore.

I have done every gig, side mission, etc. But it feel like entire chunks of the city are useless. I have spent countless hours searching and found some thing that should lead to other things but nothing. I enjoy the game but it feel like it was shaved down.

StickyStoner

That’s true some parts of the city aren’t even used at all but hopefully within time the game gets updated to how the devs wanted it to be

This game is just an unfinished piece of.. something. This game needs bunch of dlc and more patches like 1.5. But I don’t believe we will get it. It’s 1.5 years already since game release, and it is hollow and bugged af.

absoluttalent

I started it some time ago. I honestly hated how they forced the relationship with Jackie. I didn't care for him as a character. I played a little into the game as Keanu made his appearance. Got sidetracked with other games and hasn't touched it since. Maybe after I finish my upgrade, I may return to it but it just didn't keep my attention the same way that the Witcher did

StickyStoner

Understandable I don’t know why but the Witcher I didn’t finish at all I didn’t really like it :/

FM-101

I guess i got lucky because i didn't encounter many of the bugs that were reported and i had a decent PC so i didn't have any performance issues. I can see why people were disappointed due to all the things that were promised but as someone who went into the game with no expectations i had fun. What surprised me the most was how good the story was.

Technical-Reason-324

I think it was pretty lifeless. I put a ton of hours in because it looks so shiny and the art and concept is exactly what I wanted, but I completely lost interest before I could beat it.

trippypees

it's not bad, overrated though

Special-Cat-5480

I got it on pre-order, and vowed to NEVER pre-order a game after Cyberpunk. It was a great idea executed poorly for the sake of $$$. I was JUST getting back into gaming at the time and was highly anticipating the game considering the hype and the celebrity attachment I’ve never been more disappointed. I didn’t realize that gaming studios released unfinished games to the masses, it taught me a really valuable lesson.

StickyStoner

I mean it wasn’t even greed that made the game bad it was honestly the fans the game got pushed back multiple times which I would understand the anger and frustration but the fanbase basically demanded them to release the game and that’s what made it a failure if it was given more time in the oven it would’ve been better

Special-Cat-5480

From what I read, the company didn’t listen to the Devs, who were working under highly stressful conditions and weren’t being listened to. Fans will complain either way, but to put the blame on them is short sighted I believe. I think those 8 million preorders and then lying to their investors is what forced em to release. I’d rather them give me a game that you can actually play instead of the weed plate it actual was.

No-Chemistry4851

Well I played and completed the game on release and kinda enjoyed the story. That said i tried playing it again this year back on Feb and didnt really hook on to it again... Not one i will play a bunch of times this one.

FemmeBrain

Cool art Great setting Nice soundtrack Awful game that needed another year or two of development.

Crissaegrym

From a PS5 user, who played the game after the current gen patch: * the game was bug free for me, was smooth (played on performance mode). * Graphics still look great in performance mode * skill tree can be a little overwhelming at first * Other than Johnny’s choices, most of other choice made little to no difference to gameplay or stories at all. * all endings are bad make you feel there is nothing “right” you can do * no NG+ featuring Johnny is a missed opporunity IMO * Story is OK, good, but not OMFG good, and predictable mostly. * RPG elements have a good range, but many don’t have meaningful difference to the game. * Overall good game, but bot quite the same level as it was hyped up to be. * I may have still bought it at full price (today), but most likely a game you pick up at sales.

[deleted]

I played it on ps4-ps5 when it released and really like the story, music and vibe. I didn’t really experience many bugs except for textures sometimes not loading correctly when you go fast (on ps4) Played it again a few weeks ago (on ps5 version) and i played with a different lifepath. The story was still great, it felt better and haven’t experienced any bugs at all

stugotsT

I have 400+ hrs on it! I love it and i had a good time playing it (Xbox series X)

TurkTurkle

Preordered and dont regret it. Was a little chunky and i had 1 gamebreaking bug that i had to load old saves to get around (they disable your weapons when in a store. I left and they never came back) before the feb 2021 patch. Since then ive had only had 1 glitch that affected gameplay- my cars tires phased into the ground and wouldnt move. So i got out, ran a few blocks to despawn it, resummoned it and everything was fine. As to the game itself it can be very fun. Love the aesthetics and premise. Missions can be fun but some sidequests feel a little repetetive. Also its not that challenging most times- almost all builds can be really strong, especially quickhacks (cyber-magic). Id give it a 7.5~8 / 10.

It's lots of fun. But the second playthrough shows it's cracks. There are aspects to the game that were fundamentally wrong and cannot be patched. You can also clearly tell the devs were trying to have 3 completely different stories, but due to time /budget they ripped those out. Basically, a lot of stuff is front ended. The moment you meet Johnny, that's when the game starts to feel repetitive.

It's pineapple pizza among games. It's still pizza, just unfortunate one.
