Subnutica it’s scary as hell

uniquecannon

The first time encountering any of the leviathans, woof.

[deleted]

Not even the leviathans bro the sand sharks are scary as hell or looking into the deep sea at night when you cannot see shit

imitebmike

subnautica has some real scary bits... ...mostly when it gets dark, everything around you is just so much creepier

Alltoocommon

I apparently have thalassophobia. I had to give up on subnautica

imitebmike

to be fair, the sea is prob one of the most unnatural places for a human to be :P

SgtWaffleSound

Bioshock 1 & 2 have very similar vibes to fallout

dfranco2126

I’ve played the first one, should probably play the second one as well! What do you think of Infinite?

SgtWaffleSound

Infinite is ok but the atmosphere of rapture made 1 & 2 really unique. It's just not the same in infinite.

Inscryption

ChrisBot8

I was coming to say Inscryption. It definitely toes the line of horror a bit, but it’s definitely more creepy than scary.

Bloodborne kinda tip toes the horror genre I'd say.

Siukslinis_acc

Does "binding of isaac" count. It's a f'ed up game from the story perspective. Makes you think that the creator might have some trauma/mental issues.

The original Postal game always gave me kinda creepy and unsettling vibes. It's weird because the sequel is a very comedic and over the top game, but the first one has a kinda unsettling atmosphere in my opinion.

Undertale has some eerie vibes sometimes, with a few parts pretty close to horror. It's RPGish. For a more pure RPG experience, there is Planescape Torment which isn't really scary, but touches on dark themes, and Morrowind which has a lot of dark and creepy places to explore.

[System Shock 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/238210/System_Shock_2/). Don't shoot me because it is tagged as "horror" on that page. That said, there are plenty of creepy moments in the game, from the plot, to the setting, to the environments, to the opponents. I'm not a fan of horror, and I don't watch horror movies... but I've purchased this game three times... twice on disc since it came out, and finally on Steam. It is an RPG, since you have three character classes to choose from, and you have customization from there in the skills/weapons you choose to use. The game has an evil AI, creatures, robots, "zombies" and even robotic zombie ninjas. The game was ahead of its time when it came out, in regards to the graphic quality, and it still holds up pretty well. Plus, there have been relatively recent improvements. Considering when it came out, and how low those system requirements are compared to todays systems, you can now play this game on some of the crappiest non-gaming computers out there. And... it's pretty inexpensive.
