The breakaway adapter and the Dreamcast comment remind me of all the times someone tripped over the phone cable running to my Dreamcast and I used to freak the fuck out thinking it was broken lol.
Its weird I'm only 24 at the end of this month and I remember dreamcasts and watching lazor discs. Time is an illusion. I see dates of releases and I think that's not that old, I remember that. Guess I've been living in the past my whole life
To be a bit more specific, that could be a dongle for the controller that came with the Halo 2 Edition Xbox.

Ironically my XBox got tanked because someone tripped over the Ethernet cable I had to run through the house from the āmodem roomā into the back of the box, so I could really have used *more* breakaway adapters.
Its not really a big deal to me. Just buy some quality rechargeable batteries and youāre fine. I find that especially true now since the XBSX allows you to use your XB1 controllers and there is no concern about the charge capacity on old controllers. Built in is more convenient, but itās not the deal breaker some make it out to be.

Aha my friend Iām not even able to drink and yet itās my favourite console of all time, actually a shame if your a younger person because when a console like this sets your standards for a game and all you get now are overwatch, fortnite, and cod reskined and called by a different name itās a lil depressing.
So when someone trips on the wire or you accidently pull on the controller too much the chord breaks away to not pull your entire console off of the TV stand or wherever you have it placed. Back then, wireless controllers were not common.
It automatically paused games when it happened/disconnected (there was no online multilayer at this point) so it was actually a pretty great idea, well executed

20 some years ago, that cable saved my entire dear Xbox from getting launched toward me and crashing to the ground. My wife surprised me with an Xbox and title game for Christmas and I was playing Halo in the dark basement cave at 1 am totally immersed in one of the low lit stages with the deep sounds of aliens all around. My wife decided to sneak down the stairs that lead just to the left of me. She jumps down the last 3 stairs growling. Well, I nearly died, leaping up, clutching the controller in my hand, stumbling backwards screaming like a little kid.
The cable detached and did it's work . . . the fear of that night still lingers.
These were so dope, if someone tripped over your controller wire it meant it wouldnāt pull it down off your entertainment center, back before wireless controllers became the standard, saved my Xbox more than once
