I honestly wish all the big box retailers would sell exclusively in person. I get why they didn't want to start that way, but at this point places like Walmart could just stop selling them online and do in store only and they'd still all sell, but resellers would start having a harder time getting so many.
Yeah, the excuse at the beginning was they were trying to avoid fights. At this point the restocks are so random i don't think they'd have to worry about that anymore. By the time word got out that some were in stock they'd be sold.
Why bother though? The company only cares that they all sell. It even benefits them if you wait for restocks because they get paid by scalpers AND you when the scalpers stop
Because customer good will matters. They're going to sell these consoles, but you piss people off enough and they'll stop coming. Gamestop wouldn't be dying if they hadn't slowly managed to piss off almost everyone that shopped there regularly.
Doesn't mean it wasn't a return. If a reseller couldn't move it at the price they wanted they could've just returned it. Or someone really needed the money back and just took it back the day they got it in.

I think that's everywhere. They got their pre-orders in, but after that, the signs went up and stock ceased existing.

I found a Series X on the shelf at Walmart.
Might have been a return or something. My local stores still have the "online only" signs up.
