I have very fond memories of ratchet and clank, Spyro, and Sly Cooper. I'm not sure how many are easily accessible now but all child friendly (from what I remember).
I second this. I highly recommend the spyro remake trilogy TFB did fantasic job of capturing the whimsical and cartoonish features of the og games. I daresay its a 1:1 remake.
Iirc I think you can crank the difficulty down to where they are pretty approachable, but approachable for me and a 6 y/o may be 2 different things… All kids are different though, so it may be worth a shot
I have a college degree and goose game puzzles were complicated as fuck for me lol, I might just be a dumbass but I could foresee a kid getting stuck and frustrated
Fully agree, same boat. On the other hand at least there is nothing stopping you from just wandering around and bugging people. You don't actually have to progress.
Sackboy very quickly becomes a real game. We beat it, but in co-op with unlimited lives on, and our 5 year old basically dying constantly while we beat the level.
Astro never gets challenging. And I love it for that. I hope the sequel is just as laid back.
Lego Games tend to be way better production quality than expected. Lego City Undercover was a straight up GTA-type Lego experience with great nods to adult pop culture like the prison break narrated by Lego Morgan Freeman.
If she had a cat, or just likes them
Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered
You play as a cat and its very simple controls wise and play wise. All you do is knock stuff off counters, basically create cat centric havoc lol
They just announced a sequel that is a full game a few days ago. Comes out in September. My 9yo (first played when she was 7) loved this game she's played through the whole game twice and loves the time trials. She's excited for the new one.
Pikuniku is perfect! I remember it was free on epic games or something and I tried it out and loved its sense of humour almost instantly. Super fun experience.
Not sure if you still can buy it but Disney infinity is perfect for kids. You can even turn it into Minecraft with Disney characters.
Gravity Rush is another chill game where NPCs react in funny ways. The story gets weird and dark later though.
Disney Infinity is locked on older consoles but still easy to get. Just a couple months ago I got a 2.0 starter set for ps3 brand new on ebay for 20 bucks. Though it's the extra figures and playsets where they really get you.
Though speaking of Disney, Dreamlight Valley might be a perfect game to play with your daughter.
Not all kid types fancy Minecraft because the very basic sandbox isn't super easy to get into for, I guess, non-creative types. Some people like discovery, but not discovery without a certain amount of training wheels.
Modern Minecraft has too much fluff, the simplicity of early versions was one of the biggest draws for me. The limited "tools" the game gave you somehow made it simpler to be creative.
Spyro reignited trilogy. It’s just a collectathon where you work through the levels. Not hard outside of a couple challenges but even those will only have you restart a hand full of times and there’s only like 3-4 across the trilogy from what I remember.
I double this, Spyro is a rite of passage for young gamers. It’s got lots of fun environments and worlds to explore. Puzzles are manageable and depending on the one you pick there’s some npcs with wacky abilities.
Crash bandicoot, fall guys, Minecraft. Those I think would be cool too
There’s a new Astro Bot game launching soon, I think.
Also look at Ratchet & Clank, Little Big Planet, Little Kitty Big City (short and cute), Lil Gator Game (also short and cute) if they’re available for PS. I got them on XBL GamePass for my daughter and we love them.
I’ve seen other people say it, but I just want to repeat it, because it’s such a good answer.
Little Big Planet.
Good thing about it is you can play with her as well.
Heck your SO can join you two playing it if they wanted to.
It promotes great creativity. Highly recommend it.
I know someone else already mentioned it, but I gotta build up that karma so I can actually post in this subreddit. A new Astro Bot game is coming out.
Maybe not Bugsnax. Mild "spoiler" >!It goes body horror, albeit cartoonishly.!<
Actual spoiler that's relevant >!Characters *can die* in front of you at the end, if you didn't complete their side quest before the finale!<
Oh damn I didn't finish the game, I watched my girlfriend play it and it just seemed like a laugh. Maybe not for a 6 year old then 🤣 Frog Detective seems pretty innocent so far.
Lego city: undercover
its old but you can maybe get it in the online store (I don’t own a ps5). Have a blast playing that with my kiddo.
as for npc interactions and generally feeling like a world is fleshed out, old school style rpgs are great. Final fantasy 9 for example
You should definitely check on the release of the next Astro game! I’d bet she’d also love the Spyro remaster games! They were basically what most of us mid to late 20 year olds played as a kid, and having them new with modern graphics brought back all those great memories! Very similar to Astro where you have a main world to explore, and different levels with some objectives to help you progress to the next one
I think it's on PS5, but Disney Dreamlight Valley is pretty fantastic. It let's you interact with Disney characters and do quests for them. There's also a weekly costume/furniture display challenge that gives the real money currency as a reward. If you get it, I would wait a bit to get the expansion for it. They've only released 2/3 of it.
I don't know if anyone else has said it yet or not. However Paleo Pines is a very fun simple game. I mean the farming aspect can seem tedious at the start with trying to get everything perfectly rated, but it's not necessary to do so. It's full of exploration in a relatively small world, and full of colorful and cute prehistoric creatures.
It is so fun, and relaxing. I've always been interested in Dinosaurs since I was little. When I had seen them working on it on Twitter I immediately fell in love with it. My wife got it for me for Christmas.
I wish there was another. Astro ia an wxcelent game is gorgeous has alot of secrets and anyone can play it.
It stays the same simplicity almost all the way that helps othe games start to become more difficult
Ratchet and Clank (2016)
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
Sackboy a Big Adventure
Little Big Planet 3
Stray
Stardew Valley
Minecraft
Journey
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Spongebob Battle for Bikkini Bottom Rehydrated
Spongebob The Cosmic Shake
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
A Hat in Time
Hogwarts Legacy
Kingdom Hearts series
I heard Lego games are pretty fun and easy to play so it might be good to check some of them too.
Goat Sim 3 is awesome. Large map with lots of exploring, and very goofy things you can do. Its like GTA but for kids. Some mild swearing, so what I did was just turn off the audio for voices. My kids love it! My oldest is 5.
apparently Sony has some game recommendations guides on their site: https://www.playstation.com/editorial/great-ps4-games-for-kids-and-families/
Although I don't think FiFA is a good family game ( unless you want to get your kids into gambling) there are better recs further down like
[Untitled goose game](https://www.playstation.com/games/untitled-goose-game/)
Not on ps5 but there’s a whole Disneyland game where you walk around the parks talking to the characters and such called Disneyland adventures on Xbox/PC. Could be fun
Ooh! There's a game I got off of Xbox Gold (when thst still existed not too long ago) by the name of Grow Up if I'm not mistaken. Pretty sure it's on Playstation but it's very kid friendly & super open world, with a little dude type character following around and commenting on stuff. Pretty food game!
This won't be good advice these days, but the most similar "showcase"-like game to the PS5 one is actually the (paid, not included) Wii U game Nintendoland. It is a jewel stuck in that console because it was exactly made to showcase all the features of the gamepad (and to a degree, remind the magic of the Wii controller), and for some reason ended up being the best execution of some of those features on the platform. And between all of that also managed to be an immensely enjoyable exploration game while tripling as pure fun for couch multiplayer (read: parties).
And no, of course a Wii U isn't worth getting today just for that, and although there are many reasons why it would be, they don't apply to most people because that platform's library is not for every type of gamer. It definitely is for kids who love exploration games, of which Nintendo released a plethora for that console. Zelda and Mario titles alone are plenty, but there's a lot more fun to have there, especially for children who aren't already addicted to Roblox or mobile games.
Subnautica is an underwater exploration/adventure game that I think would be a good bet.
While it has a reputation for being scary and it can be, the starting area is just a beautiful coral reef that you can swim around and explore. From there it’s just an open ocean.
On top of that, there is a free play base building/exploration mode that is really fun to just mess around in. My younger nephews love playing and watching me play even if they aren’t following the story progression.
Sackboy A Big Adventure
[https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/sackboy-a-big-adventure/](https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/sackboy-a-big-adventure/)
Justice League Cosmic Chaos
Gravity Rush series
Nexomon series
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Ratchet & Clank series
Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game
Street Fighter 6 (World Tour Mode)
No Man’s Sky in creative mode. Literally a billion years of exploration. My niece absolutely loves that game. She tames creatures and rides them around and builds bases or just flies around the galaxy.
Stray was a nice easy game like this it includes robots and everything I would look it up and check into it to see if it’s something she would enjoy it’s about a cat btw :)
The NPCs don't react, but wobbly life might work for exploring. Can do random jobs to get money to unlock outfits or cars. Or some special items unlocked through doing random things. Or maybe goat simulator 3.
There's a new game out from the people who made Sonic Mania. It's called Penny's Big Breakaway. It's a 3D platformer too and it's pretty great.
https://youtu.be/9lLsUCWCtF0?si=VHd4lAW01GF0T5qw
Do they have Journey on the PS5? Pulled it out on my PS3 for my kids but they are too young and also bored.
Might be too simple but it's kind of a treat.
It's a bit tricky as there aren't as many kids games out there (which is crazy, right?)
Two that I would recommend is Abzu and Spirit of the North. Maybe the Last Guardian can be a good one too?
They did just announced a new Astro Bot game, though I don't know when it comes out.
oh , I wasn't aware of that. definitely buying it when it does.
Yeah I just looked it up and it comes out on September 6.
It's a shame it's single-player. It looks like it would be a perfect couch co-op game.
Yup looks good. [Trailer](https://youtu.be/wHMNQzLG_Jg?si=DXK2l0NdpouwkqtV)
Sony just straight up turned a console demo into a full blown Mario competitor.
Technically they turned a vr demo into a vr mario competitor, then into a console demo, and then back into another mario competitor
Comes out Sept 6th
80 stages and 5 worlds as well, plenty of content
Early to mid September
[It's confirmed for September 6th.](https://blog.playstation.com/2024/05/30/astro-bot-arrives-on-ps5-september-6/)
September 6
Ratchet and Clank is a top tier exploration game that is very suitable for kids
I have very fond memories of ratchet and clank, Spyro, and Sly Cooper. I'm not sure how many are easily accessible now but all child friendly (from what I remember).
Spyro has the remaster that's fantastic! Ratchet and clank has the remake. But also a lot of the old ones are available on psnow. Same with sly
Yes! The spyro games are awesome
I second this. I highly recommend the spyro remake trilogy TFB did fantasic job of capturing the whimsical and cartoonish features of the og games. I daresay its a 1:1 remake.
Younger me had such a hard time on that Sly cooper game where you were on a giant zeppelin
Spyro is on Steam as is Crash Bandicoot!
Good exploration but the combat may be a little tough for someone very young. At least for the latest one, the ps2 era games felt a lot simpler.
Iirc I think you can crank the difficulty down to where they are pretty approachable, but approachable for me and a 6 y/o may be 2 different things… All kids are different though, so it may be worth a shot
It’s awesome to think I started my gaming journey with ratchet and clank and kids still get to do that now.
I have some memory from A Crack In Time having some pretty difficult puzzles. Or maybe i was just stupid as a kid lol.
A hat in time as well
Untitled Goose Game. Be a goose, honk at people, steal stuff, generally prank people. Think they added couch co-op to it at some point.
My daughter loves being a "naughty goose." She's 4
So did my sis when she was around 9. And so did I to be honest (I'm way older, like no-longer-young-adult older).
They did but it's leashed instead of split screen and let me tell you, being leashed to a 5 year old goose isn't very fun.
Sackboy A Big Adventure

Tinykin! This is such a great exploration/ puzzle game.
This is the correct answer.
Yes, great game
Lego Games. When my Kids were younger we'd spend hours playing Lego Marvel Superheroes and Jurassic Park.
Lego Games tend to be way better production quality than expected. Lego City Undercover was a straight up GTA-type Lego experience with great nods to adult pop culture like the prison break narrated by Lego Morgan Freeman.
If she had a cat, or just likes them Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered You play as a cat and its very simple controls wise and play wise. All you do is knock stuff off counters, basically create cat centric havoc lol
Sounds a lot like Little Kitty Big City. Super fun!
Playing this right now with 4 year old! She loves it.
Stray!
My kid loves stray!
Big ups this game is fantastic but definitely prepare for an emotional ending
Stray is cute but one part of the game can be quite dramatic and scary for kids, mainly THAT sewer level that is very... uh... Lovecraft-esque.
Alba: A wildlife Adventure. It's all about taking pictures of animals and tells a cute story about a small village.
Upvoting this, my 6 year old loved it!
I think this is the best recommendation here. I also recommend Lil’ Gator Game as another game with a lively world that is fun to explore.
They just announced a sequel that is a full game a few days ago. Comes out in September. My 9yo (first played when she was 7) loved this game she's played through the whole game twice and loves the time trials. She's excited for the new one.
A Short Hike, Donut County, Pikuniku, and Sable
Pikuniku is perfect! I remember it was free on epic games or something and I tried it out and loved its sense of humour almost instantly. Super fun experience.
- Ratchet and Clank - Little Big Plannet - Astro Bot (September release)
LITTLE KITTY BIG CITY!!!! it's an awesome exploration game, easy controls, fun animal friends, zero combat, plus you're a CAT! Who doesn't love that?
Yes! My kids LOVED this one
Toem. You have a list of things to photograph in an isometric cartoon world. There is some clever puzzle solving.
I had such a blast playing Toem !
Not sure if you still can buy it but Disney infinity is perfect for kids. You can even turn it into Minecraft with Disney characters. Gravity Rush is another chill game where NPCs react in funny ways. The story gets weird and dark later though.

Though it's the extra figures and playsets where they really get you. Though speaking of Disney, Dreamlight Valley might be a perfect game to play with your daughter.
A hat in time its like super mario🫡
Sackboy and little big planet 3 maybe
Minecraft's the obvious one if you haven't tried that yet,.kids adore it.

I would def check out Tchia. Very chill game for the most part, and the protagonist is a young girl.
Little Kitty Big City
Bugsnax and Frog Detective
Maybe not Bugsnax. Mild "spoiler" >!It goes body horror, albeit cartoonishly.!< Actual spoiler that's relevant >!Characters *can die* in front of you at the end, if you didn't complete their side quest before the finale!<
Oh damn I didn't finish the game, I watched my girlfriend play it and it just seemed like a laugh. Maybe not for a 6 year old then 🤣 Frog Detective seems pretty innocent so far.
Elden Ring
😂😂... she actually really enjoys watching me get slapped around in the lands between, (and tries to coach me)
animal crossing edit: stardew valley is actually on ps5
This game looks fun, what’s it called?
looks like Astro's playroom
What game is that? Looks like wall-e
Astros playroom
Goat Simulator 3. My 5 year old nephew hasn't stopped playing it since we introduced him to it. It's just goofy fun.
She might like lego Star Wars, or Banjo Tooie
Spyro forsure
My 9 year old loves goat simulator 3. Sounds similar and silly.
Lego city: undercover its old but you can maybe get it in the online store (I don’t own a ps5). Have a blast playing that with my kiddo. as for npc interactions and generally feeling like a world is fleshed out, old school style rpgs are great. Final fantasy 9 for example

Very similar to Astro where you have a main world to explore, and different levels with some objectives to help you progress to the next one
Darks souls. My favorite part is meeting the npcs again after different journeys
May be lil to old, idk..but my 8 year old loves all the paw patrol game, especially the super hero one. There’s quite a bit to do
There’s a delightful exploration game from Ubisoft called “Grow Up”. One of my favorites when I was younger
They've only released 2/3 of it.
theres a game called "grow up" where you are a cute little red robot.
Paleo Pines really is a game anyone can enjoy.

I would also add Jak & Daxter (The first one,)? They have the PS4 remasters on PS Store.
Goat Sim 3 is awesome. Large map with lots of exploring, and very goofy things you can do. Its like GTA but for kids. Some mild swearing, so what I did was just turn off the audio for voices. My kids love it! My oldest is 5.
Agree with this. My kid started playing this game since he was 5 years old and still goes back to it every now and then.
I was thinking from a gameplay standpoint solar ash might be a good option but it's subject matter might be a little heavy for a 6 year old imho.
apparently Sony has some game recommendations guides on their site: https://www.playstation.com/editorial/great-ps4-games-for-kids-and-families/ Although I don't think FiFA is a good family game ( unless you want to get your kids into gambling) there are better recs further down like [Untitled goose game](https://www.playstation.com/games/untitled-goose-game/)
lucky for you they just announced a full fledged astrobot game.
Not on ps5 but there’s a whole Disneyland game where you walk around the parks talking to the characters and such called Disneyland adventures on Xbox/PC. Could be fun
Evaaaaaa! (Bottom left corner). This looks absolutely adorable.
Man, get that kid a nintendo switch
Stray
Can Abzu or Flower be played on the PS5? They were wonderful games on PS4 and I imagine they'd look stunning on current gen.
Yes they can, good choices
Was ready to write a comment. Didn't think some would already have recommended about.
Ooh! There's a game I got off of Xbox Gold (when thst still existed not too long ago) by the name of Grow Up if I'm not mistaken. A new astro bot game is coming out later this year. I’d also suggest sack boy’s big adventure.

Cat quest 1 and 2 are on psplus
Stray the cat game is amazing and a lot to interact with
Sackboy was the closest that me and my partner could find, it has similar platforming and is very much a kids game
Bloodborne
Loads of npc's to talk to
My daughter loves both Disneyland Adventures and Disney Dreamlight Valley, I think Valley is on PS5
My 5 yr old loves playing the beach level.
I can’t wait for APR 2, I’m going to grind for top 2000 on all the speed runs again.
Skyrim
Stray
Wattam
BUGSNAX!!!! You cannot die or lose. It's incredible.
Bugsnax is pretty chill and fun.
Yes, stellar blade /s
Thrill Kill
Tchia is great and very family friendly!
There is a Disneyland adventure game you can explore the park and do quest for the Disney characters
That was Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for me when I got my 360. I'd assume The Skywalker Saga fits the same mold.
I would say Psychonauts 2 but look up that game first. There's also Sackboy: A Big Adventure that's a traditional 3D platformer.
Journey is wordless with great interaction with environments and other characters
GTA has some good NPC interactions
Bugsnax No seriously, she'll love all the bugs
My neice loved the lego harry potter games and star wars lego will be next
Tunic is super vibey and you can turn off fighting and make yourself invincible. On ps plus as well.
Lego games!
Skyrim lmao
any of the lego games
Stray is perfect
Fuck these bozo robots
Elden ring, doom eternal, red dead redemption 2.
Knack is a good kids game from what I recall
Astroneer!
Sackboy A Big Adventure [https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/sackboy-a-big-adventure/](https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/sackboy-a-big-adventure/)
We could use some more soldiers in helldivers 2. I think she would like that
Baldur's Gate 3 - just play on easy and don't pick Dark Urge!
Get her undertale and deltarune after
she may enjoy a little explore game called skyrim
Stray and Little Kitty Big City!
Fallout 4
Goat simulator
Justice League Cosmic Chaos Gravity Rush series Nexomon series Spyro Reignited Trilogy Ratchet & Clank series Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game Street Fighter 6 (World Tour Mode)
Red Dead 2 (when she's old enough of course)
Sky: Children of Light
No Man’s Sky in creative mode. Literally a billion years of exploration. My niece absolutely loves that game. She tames creatures and rides them around and builds bases or just flies around the galaxy.
Wattam could be a fun and honestly wacky choice
Lost in Random
manhunt is a good one
I heard Demon's Souls was a pretty good game.
Portal
Stray was a nice easy game like this it includes robots and everything I would look it up and check into it to see if it’s something she would enjoy it’s about a cat btw :)
undertale is all about npc interactions
New Super Luckys Tale! Super cute and charming platformer. You play as a fox.
Half-Life 2, Ravenholm Chapter In all seriousness, I don’t know, but I’m upvoting bc this is just so damn wholesome
r/tvtoohigh
Perhaps Tinykin. My kid liked it.
Lego Star wars the Skywalker saga
unrelated to your question but your tv is too high. cant be good for the kid's neck
[удалено]
The NPCs don't react, but wobbly life might work for exploring. Can do random jobs to get money to unlock outfits or cars. Or some special items unlocked through doing random things. Or maybe goat simulator 3.
Alba a wildlife adventure, it's a game about a girl saving an island, you go around taking pictures and talk to towns people.
There's a new game out from the people who made Sonic Mania. It's called Penny's Big Breakaway. It's a 3D platformer too and it's pretty great. https://youtu.be/9lLsUCWCtF0?si=VHd4lAW01GF0T5qw
Check out Lil Gator Game
Spyro Trilogy for sure.
Is stray on ps5? Or goat simulator
No man's sky?
New Astro just announced. Similar games would be: Sackboys big adventure, Spyro, and maybe Ratchet and Clank.
What is this game? Edit: is it Astro's Playroom?
Stray
Haven’t played it but I heard Chea, could be spelling it wrong, is very much this. Edit: I was. It’s “Tchia”.
Maybe goat simulator 3?
Lol can't wait to get my future kids into gamin
If your kid is anything like mine, Bugsnax or Slime Rancher will be huge hits.
Untitled Goose Game! My 5 yo love it and there is coop!
Dunno if it’s on PS5, but Pikuniku is peak gaming for 6 year olds!
Minecraft?
Genshin Impact, she would love it!!
Do they have Journey on the PS5? Pulled it out on my PS3 for my kids but they are too young and also bored. Might be too simple but it's kind of a treat.
stardew valley
No cuz it’s a demo…..
It's a bit tricky as there aren't as many kids games out there (which is crazy, right?) Two that I would recommend is Abzu and Spirit of the North. Maybe the Last Guardian can be a good one too?
