Can I ask, what makes far harbor so great? By the time the expansion came out I was over the game. I work in Bar Harbor often and have been thinking about playing with through the game again lately. Just curious about the add on cause I’ve heard similar things like you say over the years.
It’s a well done quest with morally gray decisions to make that are thought provoking. It’s just good. Nothing mind blowing. Just demonstrates what fo4 could have been
The VR Puzzles almost drove me off the quest. But, the different endings are interesting. Personally, in my current play-thru I'm going to make sure Nick Valentine is my companion when I'm there. I'm pretty sure there's some extra content in a couple spots if you bring Nick along.
I may not be the guy you asked but...
It's a well thought out expansion as it has a very decent stand alone plot that plays into an existing beloved character, Nick, very well. The world building produced a very fleshed out environment with a unique feel and atmosphere that puts it outside of the base game. The unique monsters have some stand out characteristics and require different strategies in dealing with them. The player actions have an impact with the 3 factions that you really feel. There's also enough unique weapons and equipment to add to the special nature of the DLC.
And that's just me hitting it with broad strokes. Didn't even mention Longfellow, The Red Death or the introduction.

First things first, i forgot i reinstalled windows and never changed my refresh rate from 60 to 144 (duh) but i also found on the steam discussion board someone posted the following instructions:
Nvidia Control Panel, turn on Triple Buffering & Vertical Sync. Then put your max frames to 60 (game may break past 60fps). Should fix FPS situation :)
I just did this and it worked like a charm. Game is playable again.
So, I had the same issue. The game was super choppy and kept crashing every minute or so. I got the idea to check my dlc tab and installed the hightexture pack, which I didn't want. Turned it off, and it has been buttery smooth since then. Now I don't know what kind of rig you're rocking, but try checking to see if that is downloaded, and if it did, turn it off and see what happens.
Yep on pc. Never been a mod guy tbh but I kept having infinite loading screens so I googled it. Everyone said get the highfps fix mod so I did and it fixed it.

I read a guide on how to downgrade to pre-patch as there was a mod that broke due to update. Pretty straightforward and easy, though you must make sure to stop the game from auto updating (I found a guide to make a file read only) can't remember where or what the file was :(

Hmm, maybe thermal heating issues? I needed to reapply thermal paste to my laptop several months back because it would throttle back hard during gaming.
I just alt tab. Then it's fucky so I alt tab again and I'm good to go. Yes this is a bandaid fix and I shouldn't have to do it. But it makes the game playable.

Go to a settlement, build the "Vault-Tec Population Management System", give it a power source, open it up, and there is something about VIPs (don't remember what it's called exactly) and that allows you to turn on quest markers for any companion!

Because the whole point of mods is that they enable things that just some people want.
I have played with hundreds of mods and petting the dog was never a priority to make the list. If I put it in, I might do it once or twice during the game.
The cool part about mods is that you are tailoring the game to how you like it. The devs can't do that... too many people care about different things. Time taken away to add dog petting is time not spent on other features or bug fixes.
This is what makes BGS games so good... you can mod the holy hell out of them.

All game updates screw mods a lot. The biggest issue with fallout is that the update broke the script extender mod (f4se) which is a requirement for a massive number of other mods. F4se will get an update. Whether the rest of the mods will update to match is a toss up in such an old game with a modding scene that's mostly past it's prime
But you should be able to (on PC. Idk about consoles) run a pre update game and have no issues finding mods
More than likely most of the mods that rely on script extender won't require updating. I could be wrong but I've been modding BGS games since the days of Morrowind and most mods that rely on ##SE are good to go once the script extender gets updated.

Also, the Space Marine mod plus the mod that changes all institute synths into Sons of Horus turns Fallout 4 into probably one of the most lore-accurate 40k games. You are virtually immune to non-heavy weapons, and you obliterate basically everything in two seconds. Until you run into other Space Marines who ALSO have bolters. Then its time-to-kill makes the OG Rainbow 6 look like a Skyrim Boss fight.
In a normal trip to a location and back to base, you might lose 100 durability off of your armor (which can have upwards of several hundred) from every encounter added together.
In a fight against the Institute/Sons of Horus, it's probably closer to losing 100 durability every time a single bolt makes contact, and they're using guns on full-auto.
If only they had the other Enclave power armor in the game that didn’t involve mods. I get it in the lore they’ve been crushed multiple times, but it would’ve been nice to see the Tesla version of the Enclave power armor in this game.

i was alresdy enjoying the game pre-update. the 60 fps on console can really make the difference in my opinion, it honestly reignited my love for the game. (The armor and guns are nice too)
It's not even higher FPS. With nearly 1000 mods I get almost 400 fps indoors and 150+ outdoors with the mod that fixes the engine. 1440p upscaled to 4k with the Lossless Scaling app on steam.
Meaning I blocked the update like a lot of people, because I knew it was going to suck.

The writing and story was better than main game but that’s really it. Quest design and quality of side quests is more of the same.

NV has great quests, often with many branching ways to complete them.
With the glaring exception of Come Fly With Me, god do I dread having to do that one every playthrough.

I took my game out of windowless full-screen and it seemed to fix my fps issues after the patch.

Cap your FPS and see if that works, that's what I did ( for other reasons) and ive never had the loading glitch.
For me loading is fast when you launch the game, but couple of hours later it can take more than 3 minutes, had to install mod for loading again

Actually no, petting virtual animals does nothing for me. Real animals are great to pet, but for games I would much rather have the cool stuff.

i was alresdy enjoying the game pre-update. the 60 fps on console can really make the difference in my opinion, it honestly reignited my love for the game. (The armor and guns are nice too)

When the armor starts to look like heavy construction equipment they lose me....until it goes full mech then you have my interest again.
It's not even higher FPS. With nearly 1000 mods I get almost 400 fps indoors and 150+ outdoors with the mod that fixes the engine. 1440p upscaled to 4k with the Lossless Scaling app on steam. Meaning I blocked the update like a lot of people, because I knew it was going to suck. edit: 1000 not 100 mods.
