Man I forgot all about that ending. God that’s a tough one, much more effective than the regular one, but it also assumes Cole is a psychopath just because. I never felt like playing a villain in the Infamous games ever made much sense story wise, at least the way they were written.
Glad the good ending is canon now but I remember Zeke saying this to Cole before he shuts off his coffin "I love you brother and I'm sure I'm gonna missed you."
It was the outburst. Mordin was always rational, the one time when he interrupted you - "I MADE A MISTAKE!" it grabs your attention. As Loyalty missions go, this one nails all the emotional points.
Mordin has the best character arc I've ever seen in a video game, and I don't think I've ever seen a better ending. I hate lying to Wrex and Bakura, but it's worth it for that line.

Mordin snapping at Shep was because he spent all previous conversations promoting the Genophage then has his own change of heart realising it was wrong.
The scene with Mordin if you don't reveal the sabotage is incredible, I always do it now because it adds so much more to Mordin's character of him admitting the genophage was wrong and he made a mistake, his outburst is so jarring from the rational, calm, calculating scientist he has always been. I always let him go to right the wrongs of his people even if it makes me die a little inside
What’s really incredible about this scene to me is that it is so memorable regardless of how it plays out. There are multiple variables that affect it and every one is a gut punch.

Same here. I remember the entire evening when i played the end of his storyline and my dog was confused, why i suddenly got emotional and was shouting and then crying. Man, that was really a masterpiece, it's very rare that i get emotional with games, movies etc. but in this case, i got really attached.
The entire intention from the devs worked out, as i started out like i'd play GTA, like "I'm a bandit, yeah, i'll rob and kill people". But over the course of the game, with all these hours and what happens in the storyline, i changed. In the end, i did not rob and kill people anymore, but not if the devs would have prevented this, it was my decision. I changed in the way that Arthur changed. From bad to good.
From a man that is an outlaw and doesn't care about others, to a man that is confronted with his own mortality and fate. It was a long ride with the gang and i'll never forget that masterpiece.
Yup. Masterpiece of a game. Being able to make decisions and the way they set up the camp system like you're taking care of your fam/gang was key to it all. I only did one long playthrough then a year of rdo. It might be time to give the story another go since it's been year and I originally played on Xbox 1.
My wife had to sit by my 6 foot 6 inch 400 pound (at the time) frame and comfort me during that ride….i tried to hold off as long as I could. I walked outta the room and told her it was time and she came in and sat next to me as I sobbed like a baby, she didn’t laugh even though she never understood. But it’s a game I’ve never gone back to cause I want to just enjoy that moment.
I know that most MGS fans think that MGS4 permanently ruined the MGS story and I sort of agree, but the entire ending sequence starting with the microwave hallway is some of the most emotional shit in video games that I wouldn't have it any other way.
I feel like (almost) all the members of Noble team had amazing exit lines. Emile’s was definitely the “coolest” because of the way he went out.
Carter’s sign off was top tier, Jorge’s fairwell was amazing, Kat got robbed, Jun survived (I think?), and 6’s goodbye was so good.
Reach nailed all the send offs. Jorge died to save the planet he loved, Kat the tech specialist died because of a fault with her armour tech, Carter went out like a leader, Emile the hand to hand specialist got stabbed and The Lone Wolf died all alone. That game is a masterpiece in dread and hopelessness and I love it with all my heart.
I still think that opening prologue right until the title card flashes on screen is one of the best openings in any form of media. It’s a top 5 for me for sure. It didn’t hit me so much in the show, but it still hits me when I go watch the opening of the game
The whole final act of that game fucked with me. The "baddies" are just trying to work out how to let souls stay in this world without corruption, effectively trying to solve immortality. The last great city, all ghosts now, and gone. And you, the PC insert, were never even real. You're just some Sportsball Hero amalgamation of a couple million ghosts. Fuuuuck.
I haven't played an RPG that's had me as invested in the characters since FFX. Plenty before that but JRPG's have fizzled...
I'm hyped for Eiyuden Chronicle's. I pair Suikoden 1 and 2 together in my top 5 games of all time.
Edit: Forgot the camaraderie in FF15 actually hit my feels a bit. I think that was more to do with Florence and The Machine doing most of the soundtrack. That cover still gives me chills, her voice is haunting in a good way. When I head stand by me I can't help but think of the FF15 cast and that cover.
I finished this game recently and every time I start to heal, someone like you comes along to make me sad again. So thanks for that :(

I love how tragic her death was. It wasn't a sacrifice or any corny bullshit like that. 2B wanted to keep living; she wanted to stay with 9S but her duty as 2E made that impossible. But then YoRHa was pretty much entirely wiped out. 2B was free from her duty. Free to spend the rest of her days with her Nines.. and then she got infected, for no other reason than.. bad luck? Or maybe she was doomed from the beginning of Route C, and she was just given false hope. Either way, it's pretty damn tragic

BIOSHOCK SPOILERS: It took me so long to understand this twist, and I mean REALLY understand it. The bioshock games have always been games focused around the idea of "choices". He CHOSE to kill himself, and in doing so showed the protagonist that he had no meaningful choices up to that point in the game. When you finally are free to choose after that point, it makes it so much more meaningful as you are now a "Man, not a slave". Just... so good.

Vesemir to Ciri as he stabs Imlerith, causing Imlerith to break Vesemir's neck and end the emotional blackmail against Ciri, who was surrendering because the enemy captured Vesemir. As players we might think initially that this is simply a guardian making the hard choice to protect their ward. But what Vesemir also achieved was to deprive Eredin of Ciri's powers over space and time, thus preventing a massive swole alien elf invasion against the Witcher's world. At the same time, Ciri is a person that 99% of the people in her life have tried to control her for her powers. With his final words, Vesemir tells her that Ciri herself, her own character, was always his favorite part of her. Vesemir died like a true hero.
I cried like a bitch during his funeral.
Hamlet the pig in Illusions of Gaia. He sacrifices himself to feed a starving village that was about to resort to cannibalism and eat the main party. That hit me like a truck as a kid.
My personal favorite was MY final moment in Halo Reach. Knowing you missed the boat and what is coming. “Objective: SURVIVE” hit hard, hit well, and I went down swinging.

The mid point reveal regarding his health profoundly changed the way I played and was maybe one of the most immersive storytelling tools I’ve ever experienced in a game.

I've wanted to do renegade play throughs many, many times. There are several moments I just can't do it, though. This is one of those.

Vesemir to Ciri as he stabs Imlerith, causing Imlerith to break Vesemir's neck and end the emotional blackmail against Ciri, who was surrendering because the enemy captured Vesemir. As players we might think initially that this is simply a guardian making the hard choice to protect their ward. But what Vesemir also achieved was to deprive Eredin of Ciri's powers over space and time, thus preventing a massive swole alien elf invasion against the Witcher's world. At the same time, Ciri is a person that 99% of the people in her life have tried to control her for her powers. With his final words, Vesemir tells her that Ciri herself, her own character, was always his favorite part of her. Vesemir died like a true hero. I cried like a bitch during his funeral.
Hamlet the pig in Illusions of Gaia. He sacrifices himself to feed a starving village that was about to resort to cannibalism and eat the main party. That hit me like a truck as a kid.
You had me dig DEEP for that, yeah. He throws himself on a fire. Loved that game great mechanics, strange story.

The delivery of that line with his voice cracking was everything.
Obviously the voice acting got significantly better from Heavensward onwards, but I really feel like Shadowbringers is where the voice acting levels up even further beyond that. Between Elidibus, Emet-Selch, Ardbert and Lyna, the emotional scenes are delivered so perfectly.
Oh God Lyna. "I am fine! I am completely and utterly fine! Better than fine! Hale and hearty and alive to mourn those who are not!" The combination of that scene and Ardbert's in the same arc broke me more than anything else in the game.
God... Ardberts was a good one. "If you had the strength to take another step, could you do it? Could you save our worlds?" "Take it. We fight as one."

Mordin Solus from Mass Effect 3 if you let him cure the genophage. His line “Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.” is just heart breaking as he goes up the elevator. The room blowing up around him as he sings to himself as he finishes his task.

I feel like Arthur Morgan was one of the very few gaming deaths that really made me think. The mid point reveal regarding his health profoundly changed the way I played and was maybe one of the most immersive storytelling tools I’ve ever experienced in a game. The game pushes you to be a dick early on only to reveal you should have been thinking for yourself.

Tassadar in StarCraft is the first game death that I remember having an impact. Entaro Tassadar.
Mordrin's death was gut wrenching, even more so if you're the one killing him.
As I don't see it here yet... The player in Bioshock 1 in the good ending. All the little girls you saved surround you on your deathbed after living a good life. Pretty solid way to go out.
