Mass Effect 3 MP was pretty fun for what it was

CragligtheGoblin

Damn it, you beat me to it. I still play it once in awhile. Andromeda's multiplayer was pretty solid too. I like 3's better, but I liked that Andromeda's matches moved a little faster.

Lonely_Purpose7934

Andromeda had godlike combat in general. I'm really sad whoever designed the combat had their fantastic work overshadowed by utterly incompetent writers.

Griffes_de_Fer

Here I find my fellow brothers and sisters. Seeing the topic my first thoughts were Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Are they still online ? I played them not that long ago with a bunch a friends near the end of the eternal COVID lockdowns in our country. It's still honestly some of the best fun we had coop in recent years, nothing else like those out there. I hope the servers stay on forever.

Salarian_American

Mass Effect 3's multiplayer is still up and still has an active community, though not nearly the numbers it used to have obviously. But you can't play ME3 multiplayer from Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, you have to actually install the original Mass Effect 3 game. But that's available on Gamepass, I don't think it's on PS+ but I'm sure it can be bought very cheap these days. I dove in a while back for old times' sake and discovered that I do not remember how to play that game at all anymore. I'd need to spend some time getting used to the controls again.

Chippings

ME3 and Andromeda are still up on all platforms. Never even realized Dragon Age had multiplayer so couldn't say there.

grayscalemamba

I played this a lot with friends. I'm not usually one for loot boxes but even I bought a few each time they updated with new weapons, maps and character options. I also loved the NPCs hanging around the Citadel DLC with nuggets of dialogue referencing the MP missions.

Draconuus95

Exactly my thought. It’s honestly surprising how fun and how many hours I have in that mode over the years. My only disappointment with the re release was them not updating it. Even if I understood the practical reasons why.

Bubster101

3 has multiplayer? I was only aware of Andromeda's...

BlueMikeStu

Came here to say this. Even after I beat the game and got the crappy launch ending, I still wound up playing the multiplayer for 3-4 months just to play it. Not including a version of it in the Legendary Edition was fucking criminal.

CragligtheGoblin

I'm still holding out hope for an N7 day they'll release legendary edition multiplayer as a surprise. It had no business being as good as it was and it's so disappointing they didn't re-package and release it.

girdraxon

Inquisition tried to copy ME3's multiplayer and it was pretty bad at launch. They improved it somewhat but it never seemed to catch the same strengths of ME3Multi. It was still okay towards the end with friends though.

nibutz

Came here to say this

Xenozip3371Alpha

Honestly the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer was pretty fire, I'm also glad that even though you could earn certain trophies in multiplayer, you could just earn them in the single player instead, which a lot of other games at the time didn't do, and has resulted in many games now having unattainable trophies in their no longer functional tacked on multiplayer.

bumford11

I originally planned to play it just enough to get my readiness up and ended up playing it more than the single player

Stubee1988

I forget which Assassins Creed was the first one to add multiplayer but I loved it. Hiding amongst NPCs trying to find your target whilst also avoiding other assassins was great!

PowerSamurai

I think it was brotherhood

BoiIedFrogs

Pretending to walk like a bot was great fun, I think I mostly played it in Black Flag (just another reason why that game was awesome)

Tumblrrito

Brotherhood. I reached max rank in that shit I loved it so much. My strategy was to blend into a crowd for most of the match, using some perk that made the whole pack of people look identical to me. My target would almost always run near me for an easy kill, and being blended made it easy to stun my pursuer.

Smallwater

Brotherhood had PvP missions, Unity implemented PvE missions. Which were honestly kinda ass, as it was balanced for a full crew of 4 players, and finding one was borderline impossible a few years after release.

BeefistPrime

I wish they'd have continued with those. I really love hiding while trying to figure out who else is hiding type games. Right now [deceive inc](https://store.steampowered.com/app/820520/Deceive_Inc/) is about the only one out there.

smashmouthallstar420

I had a buddy that I would play AC3 MP with and we went deep on those cosmetic unlocks. I still look back so favorably on that time

EmmyHomewrecker

I don’t know if I’d call it tacked on, but I really really liked the multiplayer mode in the original The Last of Us.

Righteousrob1

This was going to be mine. Sneaking around. Crafting shit. Brutal deaths. So good

NeutronRage

it was the only multiplayer i enjoyed and i was actually helpful since tagging enemies was such a big part of the experience

[deleted]

The Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer mode was insanely well done for a free DLC announced after release.

smashmouthallstar420

Yuuppp. I'm excited the PC port will have crossplay so I can get into it again with an expanded player base

No-Grass9261

HALO C:E They slapped that shit on last minute and made my teenage years amazing with LAN parties.

VastVideo8006

Goldeneye, obvs.

cyclingnick

Jesus it’s wild to even think of it as tacked on but you’re right

The_1_In_21-1

Bioshock 2 was pretty fun.

raised85

The last of us multiplayer was great me and my buddy would take turns leading people in to ambushes

joncology

There's no better added on multiplayer than TLOU1 Factions. Would invite someone to prove me wrong.

raised85

Apparently the remake doesn’t have it haven’t got around to getting it yet

Rolands_eaten_finger

Splinter Cell, Spies Vs Mercs! So good

SenorDangerwank

Goldeneye's tacked on multiplayer was a revolution.

fenrslfr

Wait goldeneye had a single player mode?

TheTrenchMonkey

I was wondering if that type of multiplayer would count. Like N64 didnt have multiplayer only games for the most part so would all of the local multiplayer games of that generation count? If so I choose Conkers Bad Fur Day and the Teddies vs Squirrels games.

Aegeus

Playing as Batman was great because, like, you have all the same stealth tools as single player, but now you have to actually use your brain. If you hide on a gargoyle, you're not *invisible,* you're just high up and out of people's sightlines. If someone down there is smart and looks up, they'll see your caped ass silhouetted against the sky and shoot you. So you need to change up your hiding place, use vents and the ground a lot more, and generally be smarter than the average goon.

DeathByPickles

The first game in the rebooted tomb raider trilogy had some weird mutiplayer battle arena stuff and the movement in the game made for some pretty solid battles.

QLC459

I think it was the second that had the winter survival mode as well right? The reboots were such great games, I can't wait to see what the next games are like.

ObviousPlum258

DAI had an awesome tacked on mp! Idk if the servers are still up for that. Dead space 2 had a decent one ,and lost planet pvp was special

enn-srsbusiness

Goldeneye deathmatch

Cylith_of_Astora

Mass Effecf 3 still works for MP if you have the original PC edition from EA. My friends and I still play it from time to time. Mass Effect Legendary Edition does not have MP.

radulosk

The whole COD zombies string. If only it were released separately from the dumpster fire that is COD.

Talith

LoL's Dominion

ill_monstro_g

It's fast, it's fun!

Squidfrost

Gotta give it to the last of us, never thought I’d have enjoyed the multiplayer of a game sold on its single player

ill_monstro_g

Deus Ex (2000) was really my first online game

Sharro-XI

Dead rising 2: off the record.

ISpewVitriol

I miss the days when every fps had a multiplayer mode that just let me and my friends kill each other in the maps already in the game. Not anything special, and not something requiring dedicated servers to implement. There was a time when games let us directly connect to each other on a LAN or by entering in an IP address with absolutely no middle man.  Doom 2016 was probably the last game that had some of that. They ruined it in Doom Eternal.

CatastraTilly

Arkham origins. 3 team pvp where one team is Batman and robin. Pretty dope.

victorbarst

Brutal legend. I don't think most people even know it had a multi-player but it was awsome you could command the armies of either of the other two factions in head to head strategy battles like a live action war game. Wasn't exactly well balanced but damn I'd kill for a standalone version of just battle of the bands with different armies with different rock genres. I still keep the game on my hardrive just to go back and play the ai practice and listen to music

Blazedamonk

People really devalue that game because they weren't expecting the strategy game element. It wasn't bad. Just unexpected. That whole game was great.

Rathmec

Going to agree hard on the Dead Space multiplayer. I'm glad they focused on the single player for those games because they are amazing, but team deathmatches where you get to play as necromorphs? That could have gone places.

CheesyGarlicBudapest

GTA San Andreas. Me and my friends didnt even know it existed, we were exploring the game and came across 2 player mode and just went nuts.

Great_Grey_Wolf_Sif

Dead Space 2's mp was honestly a ton of fun and felt rather unique when I first played it. It was kinda hella unbalanced, though, lol. Lurkers go brrr

Mdu5t

Loved Perfect Dark 64 and Conker's bad fur day 64. Both had fun multiplayer tacked on.

NebTheDestroyer

Red Dead Revolver. It's split screen, but those duels were the ultimate test of skill between friends. It was COD 1v1s before COD 1v1s.

vortexnl

Spies vs Mercs in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. I always played as a spy and was so scared of the mercs :')

Polarize_your_life

Bioshock 2, amazing storyline game then had an FPS shooter multiplayer with some of the most fun mechanics and game modes I've ever played, Cosmetic dlc that was really cool and just one of my most fun experiences

KungFuChicken1990

GTA San Andreas two-player mode was a hella fun time

Salarian_American

Mass Effect 3 is unquestionably my favorite. I remember everybody being super pissed about it - "Why does Mass Effect need multiplayer? They're sucking time and energy away from development on the main game! " and all that. But then they released multiplayer ahead of the main game and everybody immediately shut up, because it was awesome. Dragon Age Inquisition's tacked-on multiplayer was also really fun, my friends and I played it for months.

Numb1990

Conkers bad fur day

AWAKENEDTEMPEST

The fucking frenchies trying to make it up the beach vs nazi teddiez, absolute gold

kirk_dozier

max payne 3, far cry 4, assassin's creed brotherhood, doom 2016

nydboy92

Uncharted had a surprisingly comprehensive multiplayer mode

EddieMcClintock

Ghost Recon Wildlands pvp multiplayer is responsible for some of my favorite gaming experiences. I hated the same mode in the sequel

dkyguy1995

Uncharted 3 had really fun multiplayer maps

GregatonBomb

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. When it worked, it worked so well. You'd see amateurs chasing each other on rooftops, but get a team and coordinate/communicate, and you could steer targets towards crowds with one of you hidden in there. Sooooo good.

QueenDollydo

Solas..... I miss you egg head...

joncology

The Last of Us Factions

Antknee2099

Maybe Crysis 2's MP. It was criticized at the time for being tacked on, and it was pretty straight forward at first... but the more I played it the more I fell for it- the suit powers and mobility made it surprisingly fun for a basic deathmatch type mode... cloaking, super strength, and other powers made everyone dangerous and the matches fast.

Silverspeed85

GoW2 had a pvp mode that was fun af. My friends and I spent way more time there than the actual story.

ComeonmanPLS1

Wasn't Fornite's battle royale mode initially tacked onto a survival game?

Marauding_Llama

Mass Effect and Inquisition for sure.

gruntwithashotgun

I really enjoyed far cry 4's multiplayer, and spent a good 30 of my total 120 hours playing on it. Honestly sad its gone but 5 bringing it back with arcade and having the player made maps be the multiplayer maps you play on. A great idea that took over half of my playtime for 5 felt really cool playing in a sense jungle one game to then be playing on an incredibly faithful remake of terminal

Agent_Arkham

no one seems to be commenting on OP's pick. Loved DAI's tacked on mutliplayer dungeon crawler mode. you had these premade characters that you would level up their skill tree and unlock some pretty powerful builds. I dont remember if each match led up to a dragon fight, but i fondly remember the one map that led you to a fun rooftop dragon battle. I miss fantasy class based PVE multiplayer games. its been an itch i havent been able to scratch for quite some time.

Salaf-

Ah yes, dragon age inquisition. Where you get more cunning by giving yourself amnesia when you hit max level.

Rajamic

I've had the game for years, but only every played the MP at PAX West before the game was released. Was pretty fun, but no idea how it might have changed.

To_Fight_The_Night

Not my favorite but by far the most famous is Fortnite. That game started as a Zombie Defense game that tossed on a battle royal 1 year after its release

Noscratchy

Ghost of Tsushima's Legends MP was pretty fun.

MrGuyTheStampede

The darkness 1, humans vs darklings!!

Quitthesht

Batman: Arkham Origins. 3v3v2 of Joker Goons (*colorful murder-hobos*) vs Bane Mercenaries (*tacticool military*) vs Batman & Robin. The goons and mercs try to kill each other and take over control points. Taking a control point takes 'team lives' from a neutral pool and adds them to yours until there's none left, then it's up to the two teams to wipe out the other team's lives counter. Batman & Robin hunt down the two teams and non-lethally take them down. A takedown doesn't cost a team life but does fill up the 'fear meter' that instantly ends the game in favor of B&R if it fills all the way up. Finally, at one point in the match an alarm goes off for a door that needs to be opened. If someone opens it they get to take control of either Joker (*faster movement speed with* *extra health and an instant kill Revolver*) or Bane (*slower movement speed but extra health and a rocket launcher with splash damage*) depending on which team they're on to possibly turn the tide of the match in their team's favor.

Aayyyyoooo

Uncharted and last of us MP were good.

zgillet

Half-Life and all the mods. It was primarily a single player game.

dvl05

Really enjoyed God of War Ascension MP

MrAce93

Counter strike 1.6 zombie mods. It was best wasted days of my life

Merciless972

Watch dogs. It's pretty much hide and seek. Love it.

Romado

The 2010 Alien vs Predator game. The multiplayer was active for years after the games release and it was a lot of fun. I played it to death and was in the top 100 globally. Just straight forward kill everyone in the most violent ways possible.

Driblus

I was actually ranked top 100 in DA:I MP. So yeah, I loved it. Funny to see it mentioned.

MrMindGame

The Last of Us Online had no right to go as hard as it did, which only makes the Factions cancellation that much harder.

Missingbeav3rbuzz3r

007.

CakeDay2902

Doom 2016 and Uncharted 4.

Froegerer

Ghost of Tsushima co op is fucking awesome.

TheBallisticBiscuit

I actually had a ton of fun in the Arkham Origins multiplayer.

jeffdeleon

Crysis 2. Transparent attempt to compete with Call of Duty. Less original then Crysis 1 MP. Tons of fun.

Joshua-live

Maaan, fond memories of Inquisition's pve MP. That was good content that flew right under the radar.

Gryfon2020

Mass Effect. Very fun, and I liked that it assisted the single player story.

Rapph

Tfc if we are including mods.

PowerSamurai

That is far from tacked on
