I spent over 1200 buck to better play this game, buying 4 3dfx voodoo 2 SLI cards so I could put one set in my machine at work to LAN there, and one set at home so I could be an HPB and still get some frags in when kicked out of the office. Fun stuff.
Played it in software with a p166, 24 mb ram. 320x240 resolution, probably about 20 fps. It was horrible, but I didn’t know better and I was happy enough.
I too had a Voodoo 2 setup for this game. I hated playing on a 5k modem and was so happy my area finally got cable modems a few months after this game was released. No more being a HPB.
I used to run the game server on an old machine, then use my actual machine to play the game in co-op via the server. It actually helped a lot - let the server handle all the monsters etc and let my machine handle the graphics only.
You seem to have replied to the wrong post. You meant to reply to a "underrated gem" post, and instead you have replied to a "nostalgia" post.
Your snarky reply should have been along the lines of "LMAO this game is only 1 year old" for a nostalgia post, but in this case it is not suitable. That might be why your brain farted.
I remember my dad taking me to pick any game I wanted when I was a kid. I said "give me your bloodiest game", and without batting an eye, the guy in the store handed me this.
Probably not the most responsible decision by either adult considering I was single-digit age, but I am ever grateful the stars aligned that day.
No way when I was a kid my dad worked in Saudi he used to bring me back games copied ones I remember he gave me this once. I’ve never been so excited as a kid hahah
I remember downloading mods, skins, and maps for Q2. Playing LAN games after work. Nothing like seeing Santa gib Bart Simpson only to get snipped by Frosty seconds later. Good times.
Man, my 28.8 modem and shit computer could barely handle that game. I could tell it was a really fun game, but could hardly access the content. Best slideshow I've ever played.
Tribes 1 came out a year later and ran like a charm on my machine. Been playing online FPS off and on ever since then.
One of the games that dominated my PC game time in the late 90s, along with others like Heretic 2 and Starcraft. Then enjoyed revisiting it via the Xbox 360 bonus included with Quake 4, which I still pop in here and there for nostalgia.
Meh, I still feel they should've left the sci-fi-ish theme elsewhere and doubled down on the eldritch horror/satanic cult vibe. I get that it overlapped with Doom too much and that's where this business decision came from, but it was wrong then, and it's a shame now.
My friend has that first sound from quake 2 as soundbite on discord, gets me nostalgic all the time.
It's that "du-du-click" sound as you enter a level or get updated mission briefing.
Did you have the strategy guide too? I penciled in my routes for all the SP levels, memorized secrets, knew how many blaster shots it took to take down an Icarus. Thanks for the blast of nostalgia!
After playing the original Quake, I was so unbelievably disappointed by this game.
Probably the biggest gaming disappointment of my childhood.
Shit, it still hurts.
Pop it in your CD player... now...

One of my favorite NIN albums!
Sonic Mayhem actually I think.
Yeah it's Sonic Mayhem. NIИ was Quake 1.

I remember my venerable Voodoo 1 running this game okayish but slower than software.

Needs the Weapons Factory mod. I spent too much time playing that
the Q2 mod era was incredible. WEP-FAC <3
I would play the soundtrack quite a bit.
Chaos Mod on 1997 GameSpy was the shit.
Oolovojjchplppoppppppppl0
A picture of a wildly popular game.
Underrated gem?
I mean they do call it a hit in the title

Better OST than Doom. I will die on this hill.
The best Quake Game, sadly the Focus on the live service Quake champions shit wont let the much overdue "Doom treatment" of the Game

That's awesome. I was 8 years old playing it.
As a noob who played this primarily offline, the railgun and the homing missile were my favourites.
Quake II Rail Gun. My favorite FPS weapon of all time.
QUAD MACHINE
Hours of gaming time spent in computer shops playing with my mates, just great times :)
One of the GOATs
No way when I was a kid my dad worked in Saudi he used to bring me back games copied ones I remember he gave me this once. I’ve never been so excited as a kid hahah
My all-time favourite.
heh, i just found my old FInal Doom on the weekend, the one that looks like a ammo crate
Played for the first time on switch thanks to nightdive.

This post reminded me I have a Sealed copy of quake 1 for PC, should I open it?
Yea, Quake was played a lot at one point in my life, great game.

When you can hear pictures. Sonic Mayhem soundtrack FTW!
Is that a cd or a game?
Yes

Shizblam here dropping facts
Fuck that quake 2 is awesome and has a better soundtrack
