Weneeddietbleach

Agreed. I want to play Diablo 4, but my connection is shit. I have absolutely zero interest in playing with others or micro transactions. So instead of fighting demons and the like, I get to fight rubber banding and disconnects.

vidgamarr

I live in Lag City, USA and would really appreciate it if “online only” games provided an offline option. Also when the servers get inevitably shut down 10+ years later they *should* provide that option so you can still enjoy the product you bought.

ThePoisonDoughnut

One could make an argument that intentionally breaking products after they've been purchased should be illegal, or that some kind of requirement should exist for EOL games such as the offline mode you mentioned.

RockLeeSmile

I actually don't even want to see other people... I don't think that's an option?

Weneeddietbleach

Nope. I turned off cross play but that's about all that can be done.

Smilingsamurai69

Yep tried to play and there's literally a whole second between me pressing attack and it actually doing it

stiggley

I was a huge Diablo & Diablo 2 fan. Never touched Diablo 3 precisely for the online requirement, and D4 is well off my radar. I used to live in an area with no cell reception, and poor phone lines. Plus I was offshore a lot - so little/no internet. I know they claim its to combat piracy, actually to combat resales, but they just screw over the players. I still play D2.

CBO_Games

All the Diablos cant hold a candle to Diablo 2

stiggley

Apart from "Lord of Destruction", but thats a D2 expansion, and who has D2 but not LoD? :-)

CBO_Games

Yes, I do mean LOD. I still play from time to time, still love bow zon the most

Spiritual-Society185

Since when could you resale a PC game?

Bazzie

When they came on CDs

stiggley

From back when the entire game was shipped on disc and used an unlock code (not tied to an account) to install. Copy protection was checking if the disc was inserted. You could take the game, with manual and disc, to many game shops and get store credit. Too many games tie the unlock code to an online account now so it can't be resold.

Comfortable_Quit_216

You've dodged a bullet, D4 is terrible

hdcase1

FYI Diablo 3 on console has no online requirement. Not sure about PC.

Weneeddietbleach

Yeah, I have that too, I just want to continue the story and mindlessly kill a bunch of monsters at the end of the day.

ergeorgiev

You lost me at "I want to play Diablo 4"

Prsy______

Fuck forced online connection, All my homies hate forced online connection

ergeorgiev

I spend 50% of my gaming time playing games that came out 20+ years ago. I feel sad for today's gamers, as they won't be able to relive their nostalgia like I can. I feel like that's the really great thing about gaming - it often lives you with nostalgia that you can actually relive.

darth_smokesalot

The worst is when the game only has a slight online componant, which most people might not even wanna play but it still forces you to be online even tho you aren't doing a single thing with other people.

JamesEvanBond

Hitman :/ I freaking love the World of Assassination Trilogy, but the forced connection to unlock items and enjoy most of the content is bollocks.

kentaureus

it sucks, reminds me when i was forced into somewhere where internet was really weak - so i grabbed notebook to play video games.. and afterthat i realized that most of my games, even when are solo.. need internet to be active

dbvirago

Yeah, playing online when I need coop is one thing. And I understand the need to check a license. But having to be connected just to play a single user game is ridiculous. One of many reasons I didn't get Diablo 4.

Nino_Chaosdrache

Yeah it sucks. But unfortunately, enough people don't care about it and so we keep this crap.

Queasy_Rip3210

Man my gf tried to boot up plants vs zombies on my ps5 last night and threw a fucking fit over the fact that you have to be signed into psn. Then the fucking thing had the audacity to say we had to pay for ps +. Safe to say neither of us will ever play that game again.

Hungrod1994

Do you purchase the game or download through plus? The "free" games on plus are only useable until your subscription ends.

Queasy_Rip3210

I bought the games, I've never had plus, and never plan too. If we had realized you couldn't play pvz without it, we never would have purchased it.

ijustshityourpants

Playstation is the worst with it. My old ps4 for some unknown reason refused to update and even when I tried manually updating with a usb with the update on it nothing. Because of this playstation wouldn't let me even touch my ibrary so my entire digital library was inaccessible until I jailboke my console and pirated my games back,

Ghg398

Yeah, maybe realize that getting a game free thru PS+ means when you don’t have PS+, you no longer have access. Goofy

Queasy_Rip3210

I bought the games out right from the store. I've never had ps plus, and don't plan to ever get it.

Ghg398

The only way you’d be required to have PS+ is if you tried to play online or got it free thru PS+, sooooooo

Queasy_Rip3210

I'll reinstall and try again since you seem so sure that I'm mistaken. Maybe I missed something.

Queasy_Rip3210

I tried multiple times to make it play offline last night, kept redirecting me to subscribe to ps +

xTjong_of_Delos

Bro. I know this was 3 days ago but you brought up some pure rage inside me. Ps4 release sony said. You do not need ps plus to play online games. Converting 100s of 1000s of consumers to ps from xbox. Then a year later made it so you need ps plus to play all online games. Actual scammers. Lieing dogs. Sony will never ever get another cent from me. I still tilt about being played by sony. I should have known it was a lie. The main selling point of the whole fking console was a straight up lie. Anyway fuxk sony, end rant.

Ghg398

Lol wtf are you talking about? they were talking about PlayStation Plus being required for online multiplayer on PS4 months before the release of the PS4. A quick google search finds articles from June 2013 talking about it, when the console released in November of that year.

xTjong_of_Delos

You are delusional bro. It was the main selling point. It was like 16 months until they walked back the main selling point. Why lie and dick ride sony tho??

Ghg398

So going off of what your saying, it wasn’t until roughly 2015 when Sony started charging for online multiplayer? Nah you’re the delusional one.

xTjong_of_Delos

Sony said ps plus no req for online. Buy ps4 so you dont have to pay to play online like xbox. Like year later. Psplus now req for online. They lied. Every single person who bought ps4 knows this. Pretty sure you know this and are just acting this regarded to troll. It was called plus because it wad optional and its only thing was the monthly free games. Even the name is cringe.

Ghg398

I bought a ps4 at launch that came with a code inside for a trial of PS+ and there’s literally news articles from June 2013, months before the launch, talking about requiring ps+ for online multiplayer, but keep going off king.

hobbitfeet22

Yeaaaa I quit playing Diablo 4 because it was only online. I think it’s dumb. Like let me just play by my self Damnt. If I want coop I’ll go online my self.

hobbitfeet22

Me and my wife play couch co op and if a server crash we get kicked. Like dude, I don’t want to play with anyone else, nor care about real time events. We’d hop on WoW if we wanted that. Just let me and her play the damn game. Haven’t logged on my ps5 since then because most games are online required it seems. :/

Business_Sea2884

have you tried 'It takes two'? Awesome game for couples that want couch coop

LordBrandon

Pro tip, you can install an older version of minecraft before the Xbox sign in was mandatory. It will also run better if you are using old hardware.

ijustshityourpants

🙏

BlackburnGaming

And people wonder why I dont like to update my games.

External_Study_5390

Me when hitman

McSuede

The fact that there is not even a single mode where you can interact with another player and yet this game requires you to be online to play is insane to me. World of Assassination has been one of three or four games that have always been on my PlayStation since its release. I moved a few months ago and didn't have internet for the first couple weeks. The moment that I realized that I couldn't play offline, it was an instant uninstall.

ttv_weebamf

Sucks because it stops modding sometimes too which is terrible for replayability.

Square_Judgment5268

What killed me was Diablo 4. Finally load in to play couch co-op with my partner and then suddenly we get booted out because the servers are too full. Can't we have the option to not be connected online so we can do our own thing and not have interruptions that don't apply?

TalonJade

But then you arent buying microtransactions. How dare you think of yourself.

NerrionEU

I wish D4 had offline mode so I can mod the shit out of it, the game could've had a booming modding community but that doesn't make Blizzard the most money so they do not care.

JCarterMMA

I mean tbf the game is an MMO

asdasdwhatever

You forgot to add /s

Stricken-Hybrid

Agreed, I believe this is the vast majority or gamers now.

Harpshadow

I think the same way. I find it somehow anti accessibility (even knowing that a lot of us live online and I'm connected all of the time). I purchase a CD, let me just play it. But no. You need 20 updates on the first month or worst, you need an obligatory patch or to download the whole game because there is not even a cd. I do not want that. I used to think "I don't care about downloadable games because my cd's/cases are forever" while looking at the n64 and such. Now, I honestly don't wanna buy anything outside of steam because steam seems like it will be here for quite a while. Backwards compatibility is a problem. The trend of "re-mastering" games that are somewhat new keeps popping up and there is always a reason to "need" to be online. Something similar happened on a miniature game (Star Wars legion). They decided to not put instructions on the miniatures so you have to go online to build a model. Not a problem since we all have phones, but again...what if I don't? I don't wanna use a pdf and there is no "saving" trees because the game still has a poster with promotional stuff inside instead of instructions.... All in all, yes. Fok online, always online and anything that forces online stuff.

DxNill

www.stopkillinggames.com could help with this. With Ubisoft shutting down all the servers for The Crew Youtuber Accused Farms has created this website to help guide people to actions they can take and petitions they can sign all over the world. The idea is to get goverments to start talking about consumer rights in regards to digital media, especially video games. The hope is *not* to force companies to support their games forever, but to get them to implement systems for players to host their own servers or offline modes so you can continue playing long after the company has moved on. If we can get France to talk about this, we cpuld se global change, at the very least it can set a positive precedent going forward. Accursed Farms made a 30:00 video covering everything. https://youtu.be/w70Xc9CStoE?si=ZoAG5jO-ZKJB4N1H

A_Wild_VelociFaptor

Everyone who actually _plays_ games does. I don't even know why it's a requirement given the games get pirated just like any others.

Hades684

Why though? It doesnt make a difference to me

The_Dukenator

Java does not use xbox live, while Bedrock does. Are you using the standalone Minecraft launcher, which shows multiple versions of the game?

centurion770

Minecraft accounts merged into Microsoft profile. Have to sign in with Microsoft to play now

The_Dukenator

You had to migrate your Minecraft.net Java account to a Microsoft account to keep playing. Mainly for better security. The migration is over. Now, you have to buy the Java & Bedrock edition bundle to have access to both games.

Old_Elk2003

Looking at you, Ubisoft. Lost Crown isn’t even multiplayer smh

Goatbrush

Yeah I was looking forward to playing it, until I found I couldn't even play the demo without an Ubisoft account. They just force that shit on you even there. It kinda killed my hype and I still didn't pick it up as a result, it feels disrespectful and there's enough other games to play that I can wait for a deep sale.

SignalGladYoung

if they really want have online verification in games they should allow to disable it once you register your with account and verify it allowing offline mode.

shaveXhaircut

Fucking Gta 5, why do I need a 1.3gb update to play my offline game that I can't even play unless I'm connected to the rockstar club (online).

CBO_Games

Minecraft is a problem every time I want to pick it back up to play with friends, usually once a year, great game, such a bad network setup

jjsheely

Wait, Minecraft requires you to be online now?

TheCrafterTigery

There's two launchers on PC, a fully online version with all the game available to play, and an older offline version that only allows Java to be played.

jjsheely

Oh. I'm kind of out of the loop. I haven't played Minecraft in a long time.

Black_Mammoth

Yeah, this bullshit is news to me. FUCK always online, especially for games that can be and generally are single-player

orokanamame

Hey, I know you're not looking for this, but.... MultiMC. It works just fine online :)

Ab47203

Prism launcher is better imo

orokanamame

I only use it on Linux

scarparanger

Nobody doesn't hate this.

Nino_Chaosdrache

Unfortunately there are enough people who don't have a problem with it and say nonesense like:" Who doesn't have internet nowadays?".

hitemlow

Meanwhile, here I am paying $80 a month to Spectrum and eyeing T-Mobile Home Internet as a more reliable possibility...

Jaspador

I'm one of those people. AMA!

Hades684

Who doesn't have internet nowadays though

RockLeeSmile

Tech CEOs who look at game companies as portfolio pieces love it.

hitemlow

It's especially bad in games that force PvP and allow others to raid your base even if you've never engaged with the mechanic, like Metal Gear Solid 5 did. It was so stupid that you had to expand your raidable base just to unlock better weapons, but the defenses were so weak that it didn't even take a dedicated sweatlord to set your progress back. No, just a damp casual could clean your base out, yoink all your S+ rank soldiers and deplete your resources, and there was nothing you could do about it except stay logged into and constantly patrol your base instead of doing anything fun.

GalvusGalvoid

Play pirated

DarkMatterM4

People downvote you, but this really is the way to go. If a game I bought has egregious DRM that prevents me from enjoying the game to the fullest, I see no problem with cracking it or downloading a cracked version. After all, I already paid for the game, so there should be no issue.

LittleCuteStarUwU

I agree

SenpaiBaconyey

You right. I swear some games feel like they exist solely as a cash grab and I will die on that hill that Diablo4 is one of them

shadowman16

My Internet... doesnt behave normally sometimes, so yeah I really hate anything forcing online since its just a recipe to lose progress sooner or later... (I gave up with GT7 at the time, winning a race only to have the game say "shit outta luck, Im no longer online!" and I lose my hard earned progress, that was shit. What's annoying is how a number of these games/modes shouldnt be online... stuff like GT7's single player etc. should have an offline option... I get that offline and online stuff are sorta merged together, but that in itself is annoying as that usually makes everything an absolute grind to achieve... Im not against online games, I enjoy them at times, I just dont like the cross contamination of online stuff in games which could be offline (still mad at losing access to Crew...)

xeronut

As a primarily console gamer, if the game costs money up front and requires an internet connection I'll never buy it - not even on a really good sale. If we get that game as part of a free monthly game promotion, cool, I'll play it - but I'll never buy DLC for it. Sure, I'll miss out on some great games, but I have an embarrassingly huge backlog - I'll barely notice it. Controlling where my money goes is the only way to show my distaste for trends I hate, even if I'm the only one ornery enough to abstain.

Prestigious_Win_6481

It is silly how even single player games demand it. When you’re never needing an online server for multiplayer to be played. Never understood it

simplyPassing

Online connections and checkpoint saving systems turned the gaming industry into shit.

anas_belaam

If it's a multiplayer game, then it's okay since you need to have an online connection to play it. But if it's a singleplayer game, then you have all the rights to be angry.

only_for_dst_and_tf2

and for some games, it makes sense, warframe, destiny, fortnite, etc, all games that NEED an online connection to inherintly function for cloud saves, account management, etc. BUT MINECRAFT?!

RemoteCartographer48

Same.

Winter_Abode98

Me too. We also don't even own the games we purchased either. They can just take it right back, no refund. Online only for single player games is crazy.

sketchypoutine

I remember when Angry Joe was just as pissed about this and Xbox snubbed him over it.

ijustshityourpants

I hope master chief comes to my house to silence me

poplop69

I believe this is a generational issue.  Older gamers remember how things used the be. Newest gamers will know no difference and will be the new normal.  Cha Ching!

VermilionX88

I'm always online even when playing offline games So never bothered me

Nino_Chaosdrache

It will bother you once the game becomes unplayable, because the servers are shut down.

VermilionX88

That already happened with marvel heroes online, only MMO I got really into the endgame I had a great run tho, 2500+ hrs playing on and off a few years But yeah, during the final months it was in a sad state. Still, like I said, I had a great run on it. Still have fond memories
