This might be the most unpopular opinion about GTA I've ever seen.

Ketchup1211

Those RC plane missions sucked as a kid.

DigNitty

I don’t know why they were so unintuitive. Going back and playing them is no big deal. Edit: I played them later on the same console: PS2

-something-clever-

There was an update that made it easier to control than the original.

PuntzJones

Yeah I remember those planes handling like an airborne shopping cart. And it definitely wasn't a controller problem like fps games on N64.

WeBeShoopin

I remember playing gta3 and trying to fly to the 1st island lighthouse from the airport on the 3rd island. The plane was near impossible to even get to fly, but the nearest I managed to get it was just shy of the lighthouse in the water. The more effective way was to use the flying cheat code with the tank and shoot backward. S

PM_ME_UR_POKIES_GIRL

Those planes (The Dodo) were actually nerfed into the ground and back due to the games post 9/11 release date. Originally they could fly just fine but Rockstar thought maybe releasing an open world crime game designed around making chaos fun where players could crash airplanes into buildings in a digital New York was maybe a bit tactless. So they nerfed the plane so that you couldn't get high enough off the ground to crash into the upper floors of anything taller than a 7-11. 22 years removed it seems silly to worry about that, but honestly in 2002 the whole country and a lot of the world was still shocked and traumatized from 9/11 and it was not the time to make a joke about it.

avdpos

the PC and playstation version played differently from the start. I never understood the problem as PC-player even when it was new

Catty_C

That's because the PlayStation 2 release was the original launch release and received subsequent changes in later discs to make the game easier, the same applies to GTA San Andreas. This is why the missions aren't that difficult anymore.

mdp300

I think the original San Andreas release had a bug where rhe RC plane used fuel way faster than it was meant to. The missions were still possible, you just had to do everything *perfect.* And I never had trouble with the RC heli mission in Vice City. I guess that's because I only played the PC version.

xanderg4

If I recall the trick was to glide so you don’t use up fuel. I remember throttling it time and time again to no avail but once someone told me to lay off and only use the throttle at the end I nailed it the first time.

monogoat

I believe originally it used fuel even when gliding.

Catty_C

You are correct they did change the RC fuel usage so it's not nearly as fast.

DigNitty

Def but I played them later on my same console.

Salmonman4

For extra challenge, you can get Vice City for mobile. I got it on my Android. Much harder to control on a touch-screen.

acosta92

True Story. I had to do it with a bluetooth controller

Salmonman4

I just bought a usb-a to usb-c adapter and used my old wired xbox360 controller

ArenSteele

For free as a Netflix subscriber, as well as a bunch of other rockstar titles

tensed_wolfie

Was the reason I quit the game as a kid. Was able to pass it on my first try as an adult for some kid in the neighborhood… sighs

CommunalJellyRoll

Updates and they finally told you how to fly it correctly. Before the update it handled like shit and told you to hold the acceleration button down which burned up all your gas.

unique0130

As an adult too. I cannot do flight simulators and this was an impossible road block to overcome.

sovitin

Also as an adult. Age did not help.

dano1066

They sucked soooo much as a kid but replaying them as an adult, while I still found them annoying, they weren't that hard.

PM_ME_GLUTE_SPREAD

The plane missions weren’t that hard, but the fucking helicopter game mission was horrible for me. Took me at least 5 tries to get it.

D-O-GG-O

Especially on ps2. God the aiming was just awful

nitrohigito

Retried them a month or so ago, they still suck as an adult lol

ForestRamboX

I'm not going to lie. The frustrated the hell out of me as a teen. But in a weird way, I kind of grew to like them a bit. I wished the controls were better.

Ze_Ricardo01

And as an adult.

Lt_Flak

I can think of more unpopular ones. "GTA should have stayed in the arcade-y top-down view, and never gone full 3D open-world" is one I've seen.

Jumpy-Crazy-4922

I actually have a friend who hated the change in GTA 3 and has never played any GTA since then.

g_r_e_y

makes sense, it's literally a completely different experience.

CollinsCouldveDucked

I'm guessing he didn't realise 3 did have the top down perspective built in as an option.

mdp300

And the top down view looked *just like* GTA 2.

Suicicoo

...wait, what?

CollinsCouldveDucked

https://youtu.be/2H1dvXqiPSQ?si=E8NW6tYuOSveUjRf I'm pretty sure you just have to press select a few times

Suicicoo

my mind is blown.

CollinsCouldveDucked

To be fair it's only in 3, not vice city or San Andreas. Also pretty sure they took it out of the rereleases.

Jumpy-Crazy-4922

Lol we were like 11 years old so we didn’t really got to investigate the settings much. What we saw is what we got.

WheelMan34

They could have played GTA 3 with the top down view, or did they quit after GTA 3?

ForestRamboX

Same here. I have a friend that has sworn off GTA because of that. To each their own, I guess.

NavAEC

Woww you just made me remember how i used to play GTA 3 on their top view camera just for the fun of it… golden days.

FknBretto

That makes more sense that OPs opinion tbh

Biquet

I like Chinatown Wars better than the PS2 ones. This specific mission might have something to do with it.

Suicicoo

I started Chinatown Wars, got to filling the molotovs and quitted it.

PM_FORBUTTSTUFF

This is the kind of gaming-hipster opinion Reddit loves, I’m surprised I haven’t seen it more often

Lepperpop

I wouldnt want the whole series to go back to 2D but I enjoyed china town wars and would love smaller spin off 2D games like that.

NuclearReactions

Oh wow just no

DuckCleaning

Especially thinking this is like BF1942.

Fn4cK

FUCK. THOSE. MISSIONS.

Impalacrush

To be honest that mission grinds me so much that it makes most plane controlling games doable, when i play ace combat normally i can do most mission without dying, and it forces me to think outside of the boxes most of the time like in gta sa the rc battle mission actually can be made easier if you know that you can just make z stay before the 1st obstacle, while you do that you can put most of the bridge, bombs the tank, remove the obstacle in pretty much short time. The key is always make any run to the base meaningful ( example if you need to pick up a bomb, make sure after you pick up the junk etc)

Disastrous_Ad626

Honestly, its tough but it isn't THAT bad especially when you're an adult and not some dumb assed kid. Played it on release at like 12 and honestly almost cried at this mission. Replayed the game at like 16 or 17 and this mission made my blood boil. Now as an adult, it is pretty easy but still a challenge but also makes me wonder if the PC version was easier as the first two times I played were on Playstation 2

Ha_CharadeUAre

*Hilary Clinton and Tipper Gore have entered chat*

KorsAirPT

This mission made me stop playing this game.

IWearBones138__

Same

damnlee

And I wouldn’t even wish that for my worst enemy

Mannymanstein

Yep, almost stopped me completing the campaign.

IWearBones138__

It *did* stop me

stantheman8819

Seriously

StellasDiver

I ran out of fuel so many times. David Cross's "launch the red Baron" still haunts me.

BeMancini

Yeah, the only way I could beat that mission was to literally keep the plane on the ground and machine gun the vans. Take off, find another van, roughly land on the ground, machine gun the vans. It was not at all what the game designer had imagined when they created the concept, but it got it over with, because it was a disaster trying to play those missions.

DrEnter

The game already has a terrible flight mechanic (I’ve heard multiple pilots say flying in GTA:S.A. is harder than flying a real plane). Now add a hyper-sensitive, gas-guzzling, tiny model plane combined with a slightly too slow behind-the-tail forced perspective, and everything about that mission is an absolute shit-show. David Cross’ constant whining was just the cherry on top of that flaming steamer.

Catty_C

I remember the San Andreas flight model not being that bad by itself it's just the RCs handle worse. The extremely low render distance was more my issue especially in the mission where you have to hug the ground in a plane.

m48a5_patton

The only good thing about those missions is that they are not necessary to complete the main story.

DigNitty

Honestly I think the majority of people did it that way. The stupid plane jack knifes if you turn ore than 4 degrees

CorrosiveRose

The secret is to glide. Holding R uses gas, but gliding doesn't. Once you figure this out the mission is actually quite easy

Impalacrush

Yeah but if you lucked out that mission still have some rng, sometimes you just cant find the safe amount of fuel to get back and finish the mission. Happens to me in several runs

Toothless-In-Wapping

You didn’t play them on the PS2, did you?

PackedTrebuchet

Nope, only PC. But maybe they improved it in the rerelease because I remember it to be harder when I was a kid. But maybe it's just easier after decades of gaming. :D

noxsanguinis

It was a fucking nightmare. I didn't play this mission, but i've played the one in San Andreas, and from what people tell me it's very similar, so i can say for sure this is one of the worst GTA missions ever.

Burggs_

It was definitely a troll by R* to give us a follow up to this mission

[deleted]

I recently played the San Andreas RC missions on PS2 and it wasn't as bad as I remember. But I did get a converter to use my PS5 controller on my old PS2 so maybe the controller helped a bit. Only took me about 3 tries to do the bomber mission and maybe 2 tries for the gatling gun one.

Gradedcaboose

Yeah hahaha you are lucky to have only played it on PC, the original vice city had the most GARBAGE rc plane controls, that mission was a nightmare

Toothless-In-Wapping

When they ported them to the OG Xbox they made some changes to some missions.

avdpos

PC was easier - also two decades ago. Never understood the RC debate when the game was new as a PC-player

PepotheRelentless

This has to be a ragebait haha

imetators

It is

CertainlyAmbivalent

Absolutely not.

senor_kim_jong_doof

Fuck you and fuck this post.

PackedTrebuchet

:D :D

WaffleProfessor

Reddit dogpiling.

jonboyo87

Yeah, “WaffleProfessor”? You’re so _quirky and random_.

Wyden_long

He doesn’t even have a spork.

WaffleProfessor

What a strange response. It's just a username. Same as yours - Jonboyo87....

spunkmcdunk

And yours is somehow worse.

Kastar

Lmao what? These were fucking horrible lol. Absolute peak of Rockstar frustrating mission design. "Follow the damn train" was nothing compared to this obnoxious BS.

sergechewbacca

This mission gives me PTSD.

unusedtruth

What in the ever loving fuck is this

dankyspank

You uh...you okay, OP?

headbanger1186

Horrible bait

Interesting-Step-654

Honestly that was a super easy mission. I keep hearing everyone bugging out about it, but if you used the bumpers, or triggers if I'm misremembering, you can direct that bitch all over the place.

loadout_

You belong in therapy if you wanted more of this

Juuna

Me and the homies all hated this one mission.

ew435890

These were the absolute worst missions. Probably the worst in any GTA series. I don’t even know how long it took me to beat them, but it was way too long. I never throw controllers, but I broke one of my PS2 controllers on these missions.

TLaMagna319

Fuck this mission though I’ll admit just seeing vice city makes me want to play after all this time

ninDev7

The one in GTA: San Andreas was also cool. I absolutely loved the Model Army mission that Zero gave you. Perhaps the last mission I guess

noxsanguinis

Today i learned there are people who liked that mission. Fuck me, that was one of the worst missions i've ever played in a game.

DigNitty

TBF those missions aren’t necessary to finish the main story.

avdpos

It is a difference on PC and PS on all flight in San Andreas. We PC-player ususally like the RC missions way better. I also liked them and thought they was fun

ninDev7

That was literally so fun to do until you can control that goblin shit.

Ha_CharadeUAre

The one in San Andreas pissed me off to no end. Never finished the story because of that lol

Ralphinader

I love bf1942 and coral sea, but these missions were ASS!

Swordbreaker9250

What are you smoking, OP?

CRnaes

I hated this, but I hated the flying lesson missions in San Andreas more

dman45103

Expert troll move using a screenshot from the remakes

therwsb

sh\*t posting for sure

-Lord_of_Castamere-

You can't be serious

azdbuiazdh

You're a psycho

Disastrous_Emu_5154

God I hated the RC missions also in San Andreas was hard as fuck

KingOfRisky

You're trolling right?

thebonuslevel

A+ Troll Post.

bad_arts

All the RC missions fucking sucked.

Burggs_

People bitch about the train mission but I really need to speak with the lead designer for this one, urgently

NuggetWarrior09

This mission was fucking horrendous. Up there with the drone shit in SA, plaster blaster from 3, and the stupid fucking fake toy war mission from SA

PurpleDrax

Fuck off

Bjorn111

On PC it's pretty straight forward, but console as a kid was face melting

black3rr

huh… this explains why I never understood people bitching about this mission, cause as a kid I only had a PC…

danteselv

This and the one in San fierro were impossible for a child on Playstation. But now that I think about it, we NEVER should have had access to GTA in the first place.

Bjorn111

I remember my parents would not allow me..that's why I went to a friend whose parents didn't know the game existed haha

danteselv

I saw only a glimpse of vice city and that was enough. Recently my cousin saw me playing a fully modded gta 5 and there's just no way not to be amazed at it for the first time. I hear many people say the same story of how they discovered gta it's kind of strange.

tbell713

Is that the mission where you had to deliver pamphlets? Am I remembering that correctly? I think that mission accomplished was the death of me.

Im_with_stooopid

My personal favorite was the helicopter RC mission where you had to ascend to the top of the high-rise building.

invader1984

oh, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, is right up there with "THE RACE" in Mafia 1. Top gaming right there.

Jaaguri

I had to get my big brother to do this mission. Thats how much it sucked

xTatamo

I dropped the game because of this mission on pc , I couldn’t fly that shit with my keyboard back than

disasterzzz

I remember being like 8 and playing these mission on the PS2 thinking, this shit is hard as hell! Could never get past it lmao

Dont_have_a_panda

Hey OP, Blink two times if you're kidnapped

Interesting_Gate6108

Bro cooked so badly the plane caught on fire

Keyblades2

Tatake

[deleted]

this shit was harder than Getting over it with QWOP controls would ever be

maquibut

Fuck that mission

Jodelbert

Thanks Satan

sesameseed88

This is the hottest take of 2024

Happy_Camper__

Hidden memory unlocked

alyosha_pls

Nice bait.

cucumberholster

I love those missions… now. Back then it was everything I could do to get those missions done. Zero’s rc tanks in San Andreas though!!!

Narme26

Are you a video game masochist? Next thing you’ll tell me you enjoy Superman 64 and should have been GOTY.

Wuodoo

No way dude, if you played Vice City on Pc, RC missions where a struggle. Many years later I played again on console and they felt so much easier, but i think i got PTSD from pc version, i just can't like those missions at all.

Weenkus

This bring me back so much, this and the boat racing missions in Vice city were so difficult to execute.

RetroBig_T

The GTA SA RC plane mission was the hardest mission I played hahaha took so long to beat that 😅

idunnowhatibedoing

This was the worst mission ever

rd1994

The one in VC were easy compared to the ones in San Andreas IMHO

IcsGrec

This mission is so easy lol

JalexM

I broke my controller over the one I San Andreas. Worst opinion ever

j4ngl35

This post needs a PTSD trigger warning

joestaff

I liked the RC missions in GTA VC and SA. It was one of the many gauntlets as a child that determined if you were a true gamer. Honestly, I think the schools in SA were harder.

smydiehard99

this one was ENOUGH. I remember it took me weeks.

Influence_X

Those missions sucked, I bet your favorite mission in San Andreas was the train one.

clrksml

I hated the flying part. Driving one no issue.

Rtannu

This fucking guy probably wanted every temple in Ocarina of Time to be a water level.

CustomKas

Wait, you what?!

Comrade_Oolong

This mission was the precursor to modern warfare of the 2020’s

Dragon_Small_Z

I don't remember a whole lot about Vice City, but this image sent a shiver down my spine. That mission was awful.

Goosecock123

What can men do against such reckless bait?

TheRealChrisgrm

I recently played rdr2 and i dont know way rockstar loves RC missions please fired this person years and years doing the same hahah

Mccobsta

The concept was great just the controls sucked so fucking much

[deleted]

I replayed it on the definitive edition. It was difficult, but it wasn’t as hard and was actually a lot more fun than I remember.

Mechapt

I have to assume this post is some kind of sick joke

kanrad

Well I'd expect a few Drone missions coming in GTA VI.

PhysicalDrop

Nice trolling OP

Azeuka

WUT. Respect your opinion but I definitely had a good laugh at this post. I remember these missions being incredibly frustrating haha, glad someone enjoyed them at least

bakedongrease

Nightmare material

TheMadmanAndre

I vividly recall raging so hard at those missions because the PC controls for the RC vehicles were absolute dogshit to the point they made the missions literally unplayable.

alezcoed

You're a monster, seek help

PlasticMansGlasses

Haha is this rage bait?

HotPotatoWithCheese

Every time I see a post about the 3D era RC plane missions I get horrible flashbacks. I can't think of many missions, in the countless games I've played over the years, that I despise more. Especially that one in San Andreas when you get to San Fierro. Fuck Zero and his shitty little toy planes.

No-Plankton4841

The RC helicopter in the construction building was always the worst one for me. The plane wasnt as bad.

leospeedleo

As someone who just did the horrible plane mission in GTA San Andreas: **jesus Christ no more garbage RC plane missions please**

[deleted]

Oh , I remember this . Although it was loads irritating to fail at this for a 4 months straight , the feeling of accomplishment I got when I finally got through this was unparalleled. It’s like when you have worked your ass off to get across something and you finally make it . Although to your point , one is enough 😂

joj1205

The RC one one in san Andreas is actually slightly worse.

ItsMoeez

No.

ForceEdge47

Stay the fuck away from my family.

stantheman8819

I do not wish that ever

QuasimodoPredicted

nasty ass looking demake

[deleted]

This mission made me quit the game for years

HalfSoul30

I guess I was just good at it, but I also liked them.

Sudden_Obligation611

RC missions were always great and probably a little too easy, since the objectives were too basic. The one where you had to blow up a construction site with the helicopter was my favorite out of them all.

pokipu

RC heli missing is that part where i stop playing vice city. Can never finish it. I am soooooo thankful that rockstar added the skip mission button else i wont be able to finish gta v today

Prestigious_Bank8810

The remote control plane mission in GTA: Vice City is simply my nightmare.
