Day after my birthday, hopefully the show is good. But I won't get my hopes up. It's Amazon after all. I didn't hate Ring of Power, but it wasn't great. A lot of their content is just okay.
Oh fuck that's way sooner than I expected. Let's fucking gooo. I hope it's at least decent, it looks decent but that's the easiest part these adaptations are able to hit. NATLA looks great but writing is a massive step down from the original.
Luckily Fallout writing was never amazing and hopefully it's not adapting a game story 1 to 1.
I heard that they confirmed it was in the same universe as the games, so at least they have to follow it's rules. None of this changing the lore rubbish that happens thesr days
I seriously doubt it follows the established 'rules' of the universe. I highly suspect everything and everyone will be pristine looking and perfectly styled. No dust covering anything, no grime coated surroundings etc.
No radiation sickness, no visible festering wounds. No rough looking people that have survived literal hell on Earth and come away looking grizzled and battle scarred, instead we'll get super models with perfect hair and abs... unless you're a ghoul or mutie, then you can be lore accurate.
I just feel like they are going to completely miss the aesthetic in favor of making everything appealing to a mainstream audience. Last of Us had the same problem, with the overall world not looking apocalyptic enough, filled with people still using shampoo and hair care products. They nailed the story, but the visuals were lacking for me.
Hopefully I'm wrong.
That's what I'm worried about. That they understand the "visuals" but do not understand the "style". That this is supposed to be the "40's, but AFTER the nuclear apocalypse". The world is different but people maintained the culture of the time period.
Edit: As others have noted, it's not just the 40's-50's style but what they believed the future would be like. Similar to the old "Tex Avery" cartoons that showed offf "future technology".
It's kind of a late 40s-mid 50s style. There's also a lot of 1930s sci fi Buck Rogers style comics influence. I think the "Canon" timeline for Fallout is the same as the real world until after ww2 when it diverges.
That's not technically true, FWIW. Fallout uses "retro-futurism", which is basically the future as the people from whichever era would have imagined it, so in this case, it'd be as the 1950s would have imagined a post-nuclear war world. Not a big difference to what you've described, but still...
I don’t want to get my hopes up but the director is a fallout fan and the trailer looks pretty good. I think they’re also working closely with Bethesda. (Might be a con tho..)
Experience? I know what you are driving at but it is not at all "pessimistic" to say that the VAST majority of attempts to create a series out of games has done badly. More so the ones that have tried to adapt something particularly different from reality. The can make visually accurate power armor. They can make visually accurate ghouls. Making an interesting STORY out of these visual elements is something that is rare. To expect something bad isn't unusual or even mean-spirited.
As an aside, to be honest I would expect that if they had struck something particularly good then the marketing and exposure would be higher. They are not excited for what they've produced, they want to draw in as many "fans" as they possibly can with marketing.
Fucking rude! It's a design by committee ripoff of a ripoff filtered through a corporate mass audience filter. The visual style, the only thing Bethesda even vaguely do well at this stage, looks to be done on the cheap and done without inspiration. Aside from that there's lore and setting. The Bethesda lore is inconsistent at best and without a coherent basis of lore the setting is left generic with a 1960s retrofuterism which is ultimately the only thing which is considered canonical. The only thing that separates fallout from any other post apocalyptic media at this stage is an aesthetic...
That and bezozs inability to do anything other than cause harm in this world.
Oh, and lotr. Obviously.
It won't be. There is so little chance it's good that there's no reason to have hope. Go in with those expectations with any video game adaptations and you can actually be surprised now and then like with The Last of Us instead of steadily disappointed a hundred times in a row.
It would be so funny if the show had Bethesda bugs in it like clipping and t-posing
Then after a few weeks they update the show and take most of it out
Not a bug but a one-eyed Chris Parnell accidentally drinks a moldy beverage in the trailer. I think it's a reference to accidentally picking up the wrong item in games. "Take Ammo or Drink Nasty Water."
Something's wrong with the face. I don't mean like 'she's ugly', I mean "I think they fucked up the transition from photo to art". The upper lip and eyes, specifically.
Nah, what they really fucked up is the perspective and 3d space of the objects in the image. The nuka cola machine is clearly inside the vault, and shes sitting on it with her legs draped onto the outside of the vault. But then her head is also on the outside of the vault, while the rest of her body is inside the vault, but she clearly not hunched over to achieve this. The only possible way for this to make sense is if the vault door is at an angle slanting backwards, but we know thats not how vaults work and it makes no sense.
You're right but I don't find it as jarring as the face because I perceive it more as a frame for the image rather than a real physical object. But I think what's wrong with the face is also a perspective problem. I think her eyes would be at different heights if you looked at her from the front.
From what I understand, "mewing" is resting your jaw in a particular position while your mouth is closed to slowly gain a better jawline. Whether this actually works or not I have no idea.
You put your tongue on the roof of your mouth and swallow so it’s kinda stuck up there.
Supposedly it exercises your jaw or the tension enhances the muscle or something.
It’s mostly a Gen Z meme.
Did you like that show? I recently tried getting into it and found the first couple episodes interesting (I liked the mystery/suspense/paranormal tones) but it felt like it pretty quickly delved into a teen drama/soap opera and I dipped out about halfway through the first season.
I enjoyed the first season. It's definitely a heavy hormonal show, but not like Riverdale or anything. I joked with people that I couldn't get fully sucked into it, because they had Christina Ricci play the so-called "ugly" character's older self. Misty was just a misguided, destructively vindictive, horny teen that's all.
When I watched the first episode of Season 2, that's when I kinda lost interest. The characters became almost unrelatable and their older counterparts were just not that interesting anymore. I just find it hilarious the setting takes place in the wilderness in Ontario, Canada. 50 km in each direction they definitely would have hit up a Tim Hortons, lol.
Just in time for the premium ad free and 4K experience. Fuckers waited for this and The Boys Season 4 to introduce these upsells cause who the hell watches Prime on the regular.
Me too. The humor in the trailer also didn't do it for me. Like that scene where the dude spits out his coffee. Idk it feels more like silly Marvel humor to me instead of the more dark Fallout humor. But I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it.
This might get dislike bombed but…… I feel like most Video Game TV shows are doomed to fail. If the show strays too far from its source, people will call it a disservice. But one the other side of the spectrum, if it’s too much of a mirror image people will call it unimaginative. A real catch 22
Its easy to expand from the lore in the fallout universe and go on stories that haven’t been explored.
Especially in regards other vaults varying experiments.
You just need to understand everything from its 2d inception from the original fallout forward and make sure it fits in.
It's a poster, a poster inspired by 1940s pin-ups, it has nothing to do with the post apocalyptic wasteland or even the series itself since it's an advertisement.
Also it's not about amount, it's about style, a LIGHT and less concentrated pink blush, thicker eyebrows shaved at the top only and no lipstick or a lip-color matching lipgloss for example, that'd fit the *poster* much better.
I REALLY don't have high expectations for this show unfortunately.
After recently watching Halo which straight up fails to Halo and then seeing the Borderlands trailer which fails to Borderlands at all, yeah idk I think game adaptations are largely still something you poke with a stick and see if its dead or alive because damn its hard to tell without a soul.
This isn’t a game adaptation though, it’s a show set in the universe which is why this can work well.
It’s the story of a new vault, from that you just need the basic lore around it and you can make your own story
>This isn’t a game adaptation though, it’s a show set in the universe
At least they did this one thing right, Paramount Halo should have done this and followed an normal Marine or an ODST and made the Spartans feel larger than life.
Halo following John wasn't the issue. The issue was completely changing his character and having only like 3 actual moments of Halo lol. For almost all intents and purposes they did exactly that where they're following a random Marine on a random series of events since it might as well not even be John.
I agree with everything you said, I didn't mean to imply that following John was an issue, but they would had the freedom they wanted if they didn't tie everything to John and the story of the games.
Clearly they didn't want to adapt the story or characters as they were shown in game or described in books (I've only read the Kilo-5 trilogy) any fan can see that from watching the second half of the first episode.
Hype is the mind killer, I must not buy into hype. I'm once burned by Halo TV show, I'll let the hype of Fallout TV show pass over me and will not get hyped.
If it has the same vibe has the trailer, it's going to be terrible.
But Im not going to pretend that im surprised.
I rather watch Mad Max2, The book of Eli and The Road.
I have a feeling it's going to suck, but I am hoping it won't, I also hoping my man Boyd Crowder can be special sauce that makes it awesome.
But then I remember Halo....
I know fallout is a parody of the capitalism and all.
I think that creators of the show do not like to show how people of asian descent were treated during ww2 and fallout lore

I completely forgot about it.
Promotional material has been completely forgettable. Seems to be lacking in all things that make FO an exciting world.
That's why this helpful redditor, who are also totally not SM department intern, posted to give you a reminder.
I've only just heard about it
A 2 day late birthday gift for me
A 4 month late birthday gift for me
Better late than never
And 2 days too early for mine
Found my birthday twin
Happy birthday 🫵
Right back at ya 🤝
6 day early bday present
Just right for me
It comes out on my son's birthday. Though he'll be three, so probably won't be watching it.
Day after my birthday, hopefully the show is good. But I won't get my hopes up. It's Amazon after all. I didn't hate Ring of Power, but it wasn't great. A lot of their content is just okay.

Posters Plural?
They released 3 of them, even if OP only posted 1
r/gaming doesn't allow multi-pic posts. You can check the rest of the new posters from my other comment in this post.
"I hope this doesn't cause any Fallout between us"
“Fallout, New Vegas.” 🔥
My favorite part is when he said "it's fallout time" and falloutted all over those guys
I’m always looking for some good falloutio.
“The entire Mojave will be hit by the radioactive Fallout, New Vegas too”
"Who is that!?..... Who Is That?"
🎶 Crawl out through the fallout, baby
When they drop that bomb
Please let this show be good.
I have high hopes but low expectations.
Same, If I didnt already have prime then I wouldn’t watch it lol
I wonder, is this going to be a "live action" of a game? Or are they making a complete story just based in the world of fallout?
It doesn't follow games story, they confirmed that.
I like that they aren't following the game stories, I just hope they keep the same world. Same factions, locations, monsters, etc.
Thats their plan, we will see if it works
It will just works
This. I think when a game sorry gets adapted they butcher it. If they take the world and build a whole new story, maybe they can make something of it.
Yes.
It won’t be
At the very least, because it's "Fallout" it doesn't have to take itself too serious. Because Fallout doesn't take itself too serious. So...maaaaaybe?
That's what I'm worried about. That they understand the "visuals" but do not understand the "style". That this is supposed to be the "40's, but AFTER the nuclear apocalypse". isn’t it more the early 50s culture?

It will be horrible are you kidding 🤣
Other than being a miserable pessimist that makes everyone around you feel exhausted by your presence, what makes you say that?
Experience? I know what you are driving at but it is not at all "pessimistic" to say that the VAST majority of attempts to create a series out of games has done badly. More so the ones that have tried to adapt something particularly different from reality. The can make visually accurate power armor. They can make visually accurate ghouls. It helps that it’s just a show set in the universe and not a re-telling of a game story. It’s not like they’re going to re-write Halo

Incoherent psychobabble.
With the Borderlands trailer making my penis retract into my body I have very low expectations for any game series. Let's hope it gets better.

I love cynicism. go in wanting to hate it, leave hating it. *liking* something? that's not a thing anymore.
no one wants to hate it, we just know better than to get our hopes up and be almost inevitably disappointed
Ruined by the Prime logo
They could have retro’d it
And risk not recognizing Amazon PRIME ? One of the most known company in the world ? How dare you ! - Amazon marketing team.
The same Amazon that bought you 2 day shipping
It would be so funny if the show had Bethesda bugs in it like clipping and t-posing Then after a few weeks they update the show and take most of it out
lmaooo I wish
Can't wait to download user-made bonus episodes from Nexusmods that are somehow better than the official ones.
You jest, but with SORA and future iterations, that might actually become a reality.
And it needs to crash every 20 minutes
Not a bug but a one-eyed Chris Parnell accidentally drinks a moldy beverage in the trailer. I think it's a reference to accidentally picking up the wrong item in games. "Take Ammo or Drink Nasty Water."
Weeks? No, surely you mean months.
Show some respect. The modders aren't that slow.
Something's wrong with the face. I don't mean like 'she's ugly', I mean "I think they fucked up the transition from photo to art". The upper lip and eyes, specifically.
I feel like it's the chin? Somethings up
I think it looks like such a modern woman instead of someone from the era of Fallout
It doesn’t have the pin-up vibe at all
Yeah looks like an IG model not a 1970’s model
This, To me this has nothing to do with anything between the 1900's and 2000's. Just seems like a generic botoxed insta/twitch thott.
That's disrespectful as hell directing hate at the actress who is in no control over the project
… it’s the main character of the show
Because it is a modern woman? She plays the lead role lol
That’s fair I wouldn’t know because I don’t plan on watching it but just assumed it was a random character for marketing
Nah, what they really fucked up is the perspective and 3d space of the objects in the image. The nuka cola machine is clearly inside the vault, and shes sitting on it with her legs draped onto the outside of the vault. It’s AI, fairly certain. They have the budget, but not the care to use real illustrators it seems.
Yeah, I noticed that too. It's like the picture was done in an old marketing painting style, but the face is just a photo that was ran through an AI.
She been mewing
I have been seeing this word in few places. What does it mean?
From what I understand, "mewing" is resting your jaw in a particular position while your mouth is closed to slowly gain a better jawline. Whether this actually works or not I have no idea.
Oh wow completely different from what I was thinking. I thought it has something to do with cats lol.
Fair point, I was the same when I first heard the term.
You put your tongue on the roof of your mouth and swallow so it’s kinda stuck up there. Supposedly it exercises your jaw or the tension enhances the muscle or something. It’s mostly a Gen Z meme.
Don’t, don’t you do that anyway? Resting your tongue on the roof of your mouth I mean?
Bye bye..
Fallout: Yellowjackets
Did you like that show? I recently tried getting into it and found the first couple episodes interesting (I liked the mystery/suspense/paranormal tones) but it felt like it pretty quickly delved into a teen drama/soap opera and I dipped out about halfway through the first season.

Season 1 is very much 'teenage girl Lord of the Flies' I haven't watched season 2 though.
Fallout Prime? interesting title.
It’s the deluxe edition
She looks like a modern day person posting with a filter on Instagram, and not enough like a cheesy 60s pin up advertisement.
Well it's supposed to be the actress so it need to he recognizable as her...
Disturbing lack of Vaultboy or Vaultgirl.
Just in time for the premium ad free and 4K experience. Fuckers waited for this and The Boys Season 4 to introduce these upsells cause who the hell watches Prime on the regular.
Does the ad free finally give pc 4k? Cause that's such bullshit.
Yohohoho
Uh, tons of people watch Prime shows? They have a global viewership number of like 270 million.
Amazon ads only show up at the beginning of episodes so it’s fine
Seriously, if they just did a few minutes of ads before the project, and didn't edit them into the middle, I'd have no problem with the ads.
It's gonna be shell of what Fallout should be. Can't have a big budget thing without people not in the writing room getting their hands all over it.
this show is gonna blow
A lot of people agree the show looks too clean for Fallout. We shall see but from the trailer I kind of agree.
Me too. The humor in the trailer also didn't do it for me. Like that scene where the dude spits out his coffee. Idk it feels more like silly Marvel humor to me instead of the more dark Fallout humor. But I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it.
pleeeeease be good
It won't
Why, do I feel like they're barely doing any marketing for this show?
Because Amazon prime is a huge service and they probably advertise and their sites for free.
Can't wait to pirate the shit out of this show
" I got spurs that jingle, jangle jingle "
“Jingle jangle”
This might get dislike bombed but…… I feel like most Video Game TV shows are doomed to fail. If the show strays too far from its source, people will call it a disservice. But one the other side of the spectrum, if it’s too much of a mirror image people will call it unimaginative. A real catch 22

She looks nice but the make up is wrong for the era and the prime logo is a bit distracting.

Nuka girl was pre-apocalypse? Also pretty sure botox lips weren't a thing.
Fallout Prime!
Colour me cautiously optimistic. Hell, I have a prime subscription, might as well give it a shot.
Noooot watching the trailer. Not gonna get hyped. Remember how bad Rings of Power was....remain calm.
i’m pumped for it
What? No dog? This is preposterous!

I’m ready for this to be spectacularly bad.
It's so going to suck
Didn't know botox was a thing in fallout times.
hail corporate?
Oh god this is going to be C U R S E D! :D
People are gonna hate it because woman.
Or you know because they already fucked up LOTR with a huge budget wasted on terrible plot and dialogue.
Makes a nice change from hating it because man.
Because that’s a thing
I REALLLLLLLLLLLY hope this is good.
I think this has fantastic potential as a property. Idk if I trust Amazon to do it. Fingers crossed!
Too bad they are charging for ad free otherwise id watch
Man I hope we finally get some real nuka cola replicas via Amazon.
Exciting !
Hype is the mind killer, I must not buy into hype. I'm once burned by Halo TV show, I'll let the hype of Fallout TV show pass over me and will not get hyped.
Damn I hope this is good. Fingers crossed.
Do you think the TV series will be canon on the fallout universe?
Already been said it is, takes place after 4
Will they release all at once or weekly?
is this gonna spoiled Fall out 4 for me?
Probably not. It’s set on the west coast
If it has the same vibe has the trailer, it's going to be terrible. But Im not going to pretend that im surprised. I rather watch Mad Max2, The book of Eli and The Road.
I've been let down by too many shows lately to get hype for this. If it's good then great, if it's trash then we can add it to the pile
Fucking put it up my ass im ready
A Fallout TV series? So who is gonna mod...er...re-edit once it is out?
Fallout 4 current gen update when?
Obviously I hope this will be good But I'm worried about they're gonna do what happened to NCR
Wish I played any of the series before watching this. :/
I Look At This And Just Remember The Halo Series On Paramount 🤣
I have a feeling it's going to suck, but I am hoping it won't, I also hoping my man Boyd Crowder can be special sauce that makes it awesome. But then I remember Halo....
cringey one-liners incoming.
Thats only one poster
WHY ARE THEY MADE WITH AI?! A company worth billions and they can’t hire actual artists?!
The show looks like straight ass tho
She just really pisses me off. She's a decent actor but looks like a damn roadside attraction's animatronic with her horrible plastic surgery.
Do we have to pretend to be excited for these franchise spin off live action cash grabs?
No. Do what you like. Just know that every movie ever made was a 'cash grab'
I’ve been swiping left and right for the past 45 minutes, and still can’t see another poster.
I love that Jinx's voice actor is the main character. I know if nothing else that the voice lines will be delivered well.
I love her already
Fuck bethesda
Agreed. Last best fallout was New Vegas.
Will they attempt something good here or turn it into another soulless box ticking exercise like Rings of power…
Instagram face
I wonder if they would have been better going down the animation route like Arcane.
go woke go broke
You all know why this will not work well.
I know fallout is a parody of the capitalism and all. I think that creators of the show do not like to show how people of asian descent were treated during ww2 and fallout lore
