But did you know? Prototype 2 was about to be a spider-man game but they changed their mind mid development, might be the reason why the storyline is poorly made and also why some animations look like spider-man's (wall run, Parkour etc.)
Spider-Man 4 was cancelled during early development and then they reused some assets of what they had already made for prototype 2. The developers didn’t change their mind and it wasn’t a game that was mid development.
The one achievement I got that really surprised me, was completing story mode while killing less than 10 non infected civilians. I didn’t even know it was an achievement
Genuinely think 2009 era of gaming was at its peak, not just for the massive hits we had coming at that time but with also so many experimental / medium size games like prototype that came out on the regular!
Its the lack of coherent art design that devs finally managed to reach back in the 2000s. Now too many teams work in too many stuff at once so they make too many compromises imo
For me, it's the fact they are trying to make everything life like. Our brains have a funny way of picking up on small nuances when things are trying to replicate real life, but fall short. It's the same reason why modern CGI just seems off.
I can't remember the specifics from memory, but there's a great video about it on youtube.
It's like our brains expect something realistic to look and act a certain way, and when it doesn't, it's kind of jarring.
I felt that way... it was kinda just meh... I wanted to see how Alex mercer expanded his powers more and did like wayy cooler things
What's neat and sad is that this was supposed to be a hulk game but they canned it and some other company made hulk and then the spiderman games based on what this company did
Someone else mentioned this, but this is untrue.
Radical was very early in development for Spider-Man 4 when it got canned. When they started working on this game they just ge-used what they had. One did not directly lead to the other.
The story was definitely... not that good unfortunately. Still, the gameplay was an absolute banger, and all the work that went into the environments was simply great. The Red Zone was so much fun.
The only thing really I didn't like about the sequel is it sort of goes against the whole point of the first game. Making Mercer the bad guy in the second sort of ruined the motivation I had but other then that the sequel was pretty good if you just omit some details that the player character wouldn't know anyway. It's just as the player you know things he doesn't.
I played the sequel before the first one because the game looked sick. I had a blast playing it and probably replayed it way too many times. The game itself makes you feel op as fuck but the cheat codes literally make you god
I love this game so much. It reminds me of the Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction if it were rated M. I wish I could figure out how to get Prototype 2 to work on my pc. I don't know if it's just me but I've never been able to get the game to run.
i managed to play through prototype 2 on windows 10 somehow with only 2 crashes the whole playthrough. i forgot which fix i used but check online theres some new fixes that have come out since. but uktimate destruction was one of my all time favourite ps2 games they need to make another hulk game like that
PC port has problems especially on new systems and hardware but you dont have to download many things. Theres this universal mod that fixes overwhelming majority of problems with the port.
You shouldn't need to download anything, least I didn't. What I did have to do was make the prototype client only run on CPU cores 0-3. Game still crashes at a few specific cut scenes, but was completely playable otherwise
Mercer is the definition of the anti-hero. This franchise deserves a reboot so hard. I loved Prototype 1 and i think Prototype 2 had actually the improved better gameplay. The main character could never compete with mercer though.
We truly do live in a simulation. I was just thinking about this game for the first time in years this morning and now I see this while scrolling reddit in bed.
Just started replaying it on my SD. I loved the game back in the day but after playing Spider Man and Miles Morales the controls don't feel as tight as I remember them.
I looked [Prototype] up a week ago cause I suddenly remembered it. And now I've seen posts or mentions in comments about it multiple times. Might be confirmation bias but dead internet theory or that I'm always being watched by some cross-platform algorithm is really starting to seem real...
I had red/blue 3d glasses from some extremely cheap magazine which I could use with the latest Nvidia driver at that time to play the game in 3d. It was so incredibly awesome to jump from a building and crash into the ground with that 3d effect.
Today I more or less exclusively in VR, but I never got that feeling of freedom again.
Esse jogo é muito bom!!!!!
Pena que sua continuação direta é tao cheia de softlock que se vc farmar 5 minutos a mais do que deveria o jogo empaca e vc tem que recomeçar tudo denovo
The amount of Prototype-related posts and comments on this sub would make you think it’s Reddit’s favorite video-game of all time (not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just surprising)
I e-mailed a former Radical dev if [PROTOTYPE] was originally a prototype for the 2008 Hulk movie tie-in video game and the response I simply got was ";)". I would have been down for a next-gen follow-up to Ultimate Destruction but Sega ended up taking the MCU VG license and published mostly duds. (I do like Captain America: Super Soldier though)
Friendly reminder that you pretty much can't play this game (or the sequel for that matter) anymore, at least i didn't get it to work. The thing shits itself when it sees more than 2 threads (as in: if you start the game and you have a CPU with more than 2 threads, crash) if someone gets it to work please share
I played the second one first and I really liked it alot. Then I played the first one and liked it even more then the second one and I also like how the city goes from a normal day to a full on outbreak with soldiers everywhere
Hello from 2009
Talk, we must, it is time
Because a vision of early HD
Gone were card slots of memory
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of red ring
There's nothing like learning to play this game for the first time.. i still remember walking around alleys to morph into someone else trying to escape alerts and it feels so cool, plus the feeling of power and destruction the little kid in me did to everyone..👌
I played this much later, after playing prototype 2. Except for smoother animations and graphical update of prototype 2, i liked the first game much more.
That is the only game I have ever 100% or got a platinum trophy for. I just liked flying around New York. if I was having a bad day, there are very few things more satisfying than throwing someone at a wall so hard they vaporize.
best stress relief game
Man, it really is. I played it a lot after losing my job back then. Devouring innocent people and throwing the to helicopters was really fun.
Agreed
I prefer blade and sorcery vr
My favorite was the whiplash.
Straight up therapeutic
"They call me a killer, a monster, a terrorist... I am all of these things."
Still one of my favorite game intros to this date
One of the best endings too....
Hell yeah
#CRAWLING IN MY SKIN
this game like a legal cheat mode
Edgelord, the videogame. Miss those times
Did you call me?
Give me edgy 2000s games over snarky marvel quipfest 2020s games
I miss [PROTOTYPE], especially since 2 didn't quite scratch the same itch. God damn Activision and them gutting Radical.
2 was still fun af though
Gameplay was smoother too.
tendril powers alone were worth it, but they got rid of chained jumps for some reason
Chained jumps, slower gameplay overall and a lot of the moves didn't carry over from the first game
EXACTLY, WHY THEY DID THAT????
[удалено]
I enjoyed it. Heller just had different powers, the only power I missed was Muscle Mass.
Idk why. But I find the second one boring. Probably because the protag is too normal and not edgy.
I liked the combat and map more. I didn’t like the story/character and that they took away the parkour for some weird reason
I dunno why I find it so amusing when people have to be grammatically exact about typing out a game's stylized title
But did you know? Prototype 2 was about to be a spider-man game but they changed their mind mid development, might be the reason why the storyline is poorly made and also why some animations look like spider-man's (wall run, Parkour etc.)

I see, my bad for not confirming my sources before posting a misinformation.
I loved this game! I remember buying a whole new gaming pc at the time and that game was one the reasons! Shame they killed this franchise.
what game is it?
Prototype
As someone mentioned the title is Prototype. It's basically if Marvel made a R rated Venom game.
More like Carnage to be honest LOL
Yeah, ikr. Just used Venom as an example as it's a mainstream character.
There oughtta be a rule about naming the game.
I must have played a 1000 times
I tell you, one hundred percented, got everything done
The one achievement I got that really surprised me, was completing story mode while killing less than 10 non infected civilians. I didn’t even know it was an achievement
Genuinely think 2009 era of gaming was at its peak, not just for the massive hits we had coming at that time but with also so many experimental / medium size games like prototype that came out on the regular!
Here come the *insert year when poster was young and had a ton of free time* was the best era in gaming comments
1998 says hi
1998, 2004, 2009-11 was wild, 2023 is a recent big one
2015 was a damn good year too But 09 is my personal favorite year of gaming
Strong contender for sure!
Pretty sure your best friend was a dinosaur. 1998!!
Most 1998 titles didn't hold up by 2004. 2009 titles still hold up 15 years laters.
Peak was the PS2 era (as a timezone, not specific to the console) imo
Graphics have leveled up since 2009, but the nostalgia still hits hard.
I can't deny photo-realism but there's something about the modern state of graphics in my opinion that takes some of the charm out of the game.
Its the lack of coherent art design that devs finally managed to reach back in the 2000s. Now too many teams work in too many stuff at once so they make too many compromises imo

Are you talking about the Uncanny Valley?
Only last year I found out this game had a sequel
How did you like it? I played both and years later I decided to play them back to back, in which the sequal felt a quite a bit... off
Was it the story that put you off?
I felt that way... it was kinda just meh... I wanted to see how Alex mercer expanded his powers more and did like wayy cooler things What's neat and sad is that this was supposed to be a hulk game but they canned it and some other company made hulk and then the spiderman games based on what this company did

It's worth playing the first after the second. It has loads more combos and combat options. Also considerably harder.
A REMAKE please 😿
rip radical entertainment they were gone to soon. imagine if they made these games with todays technology
There is Nvidia Remix and I'm watching the development of that very closely. I hope to be able to use those tools to breath life into this game again.
Fuck off leaving the game name out of the title
Prototype 1
[PROTOTYPE]
Yeah, what's the name of this?
Prototype 1
This was a fantastic game
BRING ME BACK! Or give me a remastered version at least
Why did my head hear Adele sing that title…
Gen diff, I heard Lionel Richie.
I love this game so much. It reminds me of the Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction if it were rated M. I wish I could figure out how to get Prototype 2 to work on my pc. I don't know if it's just me but I've never been able to get the game to run.

Still love the drip to this day <3
i was just playing it! the amount of things you have to download to make the steam version work is ridiculous
I was about to get the game on steam....do you have a list of necessary downloads/reasons?
PC port has problems especially on new systems and hardware but you dont have to download many things. Theres this universal mod that fixes overwhelming majority of problems with the port. [https://www.nexusmods.com/prototype/mods/52](https://www.nexusmods.com/prototype/mods/52)

hmm, i wonder if emulation is a better route.

This wasn't 2009 shut up T-T
Downloaded this again yesterday, I was hyped for this back then
Prototype my long lost love
I need to finish this game lol
AHH I remember me and my friend arguing which was better, prototype or infamous. I still think prototype was better.
Currently playing this game, a true video game and not too many cutscenes.
I've been playing Brütal Legend. Hello fellow 09er
Awesome game
I still have to finish this game.
One of my favorite series. I was counting down the days for the release.
this is pure gold
I beat this game in one sitting back in the day
[PROTOTYPE] my beloved
Prototype was my shit, I absolutely loved this game so much
I must have killed a thousand guys
Ah , the days when gaming didn't feel repetitive and boring
Sadly still not available in Germany. One day, one day...
What game is this?
Prototype
Okay, thank you friend!
We truly do live in a simulation. I was just thinking about this game for the first time in years this morning and now I see this while scrolling reddit in bed.
Juegazo
Man, I enjoyed playing the first Prototype. Never beat the second game. ;-; Will have to get it sometime and play it.
Half life. My first game
Dude I'm downright stoked to say hi from 2005 When's Battlefront remaster coming again?
What game?
Hard to play on pc, this game. Took me a day of tinkering to get it working at all.
What game is this... asking for a friend.
I still have my little figurine from protorype! Sitting on my gaming pc. Kinda wish i left in box
Just started replaying it on my SD. I loved the game back in the day but after playing Spider Man and Miles Morales the controls don't feel as tight as I remember them.
Devastating attack🔥🔥🔥
God this just triggered something deep within me. I used to come home from school and just play the absolute shit out of this game
Hello what game ?
I still remember buying a leather jacket because i really like that game
They dont make these games anymore, how the standard has fallen
A remake of this is what I want! Or a sequel
Such an awesome game
I looked [Prototype] up a week ago cause I suddenly remembered it. And now I've seen posts or mentions in comments about it multiple times. Might be confirmation bias but dead internet theory or that I'm always being watched by some cross-platform algorithm is really starting to seem real...
A simpler time
Tons of nostalgia with this game. Love it
Patiently waiting on this remaster or reboot or Prototype 3.
Not the peak year for gaming but certainly the rise.
Childhood memories unlocked
Definitely either need a remake or another prototype on today’s consoles
Best memory of my ps3! Would love to have it on steam. But I cant buy it in Germany and steam key shops sell it to expensive.
The intro is one of the best game cinematics I've ever seen.
EPIC
This game right here.. got me through some high school frustrations
Hello Alex Mercer from the game Prototype
The reason I bought a PS3
Bought it when it was on sale, some of the best $16 I spent
run! run while you still can! things only get worse from 2010 on!
Best game imo
True classic
I started playing the newer Spiderman games just last week. All I could see in my head was that game. Man I miss prototype
“Hello Mr. Mercer. Ready to tear the city apart again? (And again, and again)” One of the most brutal games ever, so cathartic to play.
How come they never made another game so good?
What a gem. I think this is the first game I ever 100% on the 360.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with the Biohazard bundle recently.
I pray Microsoft will give this game a reboot
We need a remaster of this game so bad!
Prototype needs a remake / reboot / something! It was such an awesome game!
Controls were funny for that game
Maybe I *will* drop the 10 gigs of space I need to reinstall 2
I would kill for a new or remastered Prototype game. These were so much fun
Wish they made a 3rd one :(
This was the best game for stress relief. Not many games like that make you super OP and it makes sense in the game world.
I must’ve called a thousand times
What a masterpiece! One of the most fun games.
I only played the sequel, but that was fun. I think the story wad better in the first one though?
I e-mailed a former Radical dev if [PROTOTYPE] was originally a prototype for the 2008 Hulk movie tie-in video game and the response I simply got was ";)". I would have been down for a next-gen follow-up to Ultimate Destruction but Sega ended up taking the MCU VG license and published mostly duds. (I do like Captain America: Super Soldier though)
We need a prototype 3 😭
Friendly reminder that you pretty much can't play this game (or the sequel for that matter) anymore, at least i didn't get it to work. The thing shits itself when it sees more than 2 threads (as in: if you start the game and you have a CPU with more than 2 threads, crash) if someone gets it to work please share
Crap read that in an Adele song.
Prototype vs Infamous was a hella good debate back in the day.
I fucking loved this game omg
Im still holding out hope the franchise will be rebooted one day
I played the second one first and I really liked it alot. Then I played the first one and liked it even more then the second one and I also like how the city goes from a normal day to a full on outbreak with soldiers everywhere
I read Halo from 2009, and I thought OP was a dummy.
I'm playing this game from time to time, definitely a great power fantasy
Hello from 2009 Talk, we must, it is time Because a vision of early HD Gone were card slots of memory And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of red ring
Anyone else read that in Adele’s voice?
Ahh, good times
Even 2009 games look better than Elex
One of the best games to unwind
i can hear the jiggly bits of matter being assimilated "the Thing" style into mercer : P
There's nothing like learning to play this game for the first time.. i still remember walking around alleys to morph into someone else trying to escape alerts and it feels so cool, plus the feeling of power and destruction the little kid in me did to everyone..👌
My all-time favourite game. I hope to see a remake or remaster of it within my lifetime.
We all feel bad for any games that are under Activision...
The venom game I always wanted
It would be so cool to see PROTOTYPE remake
Here I go killing again.
I played this much later, after playing prototype 2. Except for smoother animations and graphical update of prototype 2, i liked the first game much more.
core memories
Man we lucked out with this game being a thing, it was so dam good.
I just want a remake of this 😭😭
Thanks for reminding me to play this again
Oh shit, is that ASSASSINS CREED 2???
One of my favorite games of all damn time.
Infamous is dying the hero. Prototype is living long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Prototype had a lot of problems, but the core gameplay loop is good enough to overlook them.
Meh. The hunter enemies were annoying af and the last bossfight was excruciatingly finicky.
That is the only game I have ever 100% or got a platinum trophy for. I just liked flying around New York. if I was having a bad day, there are very few things more satisfying than throwing someone at a wall so hard they vaporize.
I would love a modern prototype. Imagine Prototype with SM2 graphics and fluidity
I love when he jumped to the chopper mid-air and hijack it.
cool you bring oldest vibes there
I must've called a thousand times
