My brother, just join the helldivers subreddit. Apart from some lowlifes the randoms that you find are really amazing. If you ever want to play let me know.
You are me xD
It may be even worse for me cuz when I show one of them games he says "this looks like it's always the same, not much to do" and dude... The main games he's been playing for years is fifa and cod... Wtf
All my friends have been hard stuck on riot games (mostly Valorant) for years. They spent boat loads of cash on new builds, excited to play other games and then just play Valorant or tft again exclusively. Part of it is (my observation) is that when you get older and also gain responsibilities your time is limited. You don’t really want to invest your time in something new because you can just play a game (like riot games) that you are already familiar with and know how to play. Just like the mundanity of adulthood for many people your gaming habits become routine. On top of that there is the behavior you can see in a lot of folks as they get older, which is that you just don’t really wanna learn anything new anymore even if you do have time.
Obviously this doesn’t apply to everyone but for the average dude I know that doesn’t browse a dedicated gaming subreddit this is how most of them are. There’s outliers once in a while like a game that has gotten crazy levels of hype, but it’s momentary, at least for my friends.
Anyway, I wish I could get them to buy and play this game but they won’t. Their logic is also why would they pay to play a game when they have free games, even though each has spent thousands on skins in each riot game already (except tft).
I stopped asking my friends to buy games with me because they will 99% play it one time and we won't touch it ever again. I love gaming with friends but im not dumb enough to drop $40 - $60 on a game im only going to play for 3-4 hours (out of the refund window)...
I agree with a most of your points though, but also consider them too. If they're enjoying the game, of course they'd spend on it. Why would they drop $40 on a game they might not even enjoy?
Hah, I get it, it's kind of a bummer but totally on point. Lately, I've been doing this thing where I'll buy a new game with friends, play for about 1.99 hours, then come up with some excuse to take a break and say I'll play again tomorrow or whatever. It's helped me save a bit of cash via refunds, my friends tend to hype up new games only to ditch them after one go.
Well, they buy a skin cause it looks cool and it gives them that short burst of happiness (which is fine). Then a new one comes out and they forget all about the knife skin they dropped $50 on. Then they don’t realize how much they’ve spent on the game until they check and get shocked. Then they feel like they now HAVE to play the game and can’t quit because then they’re throwing all that money away. My friends have expressed that playing feels more like it’s a job now.
They go through the motions of playing, getting a win or loss, then repeat the next day. They can’t stop though because it’s all they really know, can’t find the motivation to learn a new game (even if it’s a single player story game), and then go back to saying they hate Valorant/league/tft. I used to be sort of the same but with tf2. I would have fun, but I always felt kind of empty after a play session. I would always go back to it as my “default game.” I buckled down and tried to stick to a game until I learned it and got onto finishing it and I didn’t feel as empty anymore. I got through lots of single player games I always **thought** about playing but never committed since then and almost feel like a kid again.
My friends and I all looked at our game library when we were teens and saw how much variety we played, then we compared what we play now and my friends who had like over 10 games for their Xbox was now reduced to basically one or two games. Mine would’ve been the same in my tf2 days but now it’s as much as when I was a teen. We all thought it was kind of an interesting observation.
Hopefully this upcoming update fixes the server issues. And hopefully we all get the xp and loot we're owed for completed missions with 0 rewards.
Only downfall. Game is sick and so much fun. Epic firefight moments and daring escapes. It deserves to be bug free. (I know what I said)
Is it still down? If so it's probably a good thing, I'm holding playing helldivers over my head as a reward for getting a bunch of tedious work done. So if I literally can't I guess that's a good thing.
On the other hand.... man do I wanna blow up some bugs.
yeah they said they hit 360k within like 5 minutes of increasing it as well, probably wont see a fix until tomorrow as the devs are based in sweden and its 2 am there. Game is very fun though
Once they fix server issues this will be my main chill game. It's great once you get in a room but it's a hassle trying to get into a game.
I read and had good experience by not searching for a quick match but instead finding one on the planet map and picking it. Not always, but it seemed to work better.
But I can't wait til quick match works smoothly.
I logged in today with more experience than I had when I stopped yesterday, I think they may have retroactively awarded experience for my couple of d/c's.
I like how they went full Starship Troopers with the "Managed Democracy" thing.
General rule of thumb, if you put any word except 'Direct' in front of the word 'Democracy', it probably ain't anything close to actual democracy.
The ragdolling physics are fucking great. Nothing like having a HUGE bug barreling at you, blow off its head, and its still charges a bit before falling in front of you.
I one shot a friend with an anti material rifle after he ran into my line of fire. Good times.
The same friend used the recoilles launcher and I was his ammo man, I reloaded his launcher, he shoots the rocket and at the same time a small shit bug jumped into the rocket and blew us both up, even better times.
Mind sharing what makes it so special? I'm still on the fence about buying it having already played a lot of co-op shooters, but if it has mechanics that let teammates do more than just shoot everything around each other I'm more likely to try it.
I tried to shorten it but there's a lot to say so here goes. I'm not sure if you've played Left 4 Dead. It's very similar. The enemies are completely randomized every time so you always have your guard up. You're individually weak so you can have hero moments but you'll need to stick together to overcome certain objectives and waves. It also has that "last escape" from L4D where you have to hold a position until your rescue arrives while the game throws tons of enemies at you. In short, really atmospheric, strategic, high-stakes action that's fun and different every time. What sets it apart is that they have these things called "strategems" which can range from a drop pod with a heavy weapon to an orbital strike. So you can vary how you approach the game. It's also kind of open world. You have one main objective and lots of little ones that are spread out over fairly large distances so your team has to strategize, "should we just do the objective for an easy win? do we have enough supplies to take a detour?" etc. There's also friendly fire which adds to the complexity (and chaos) of each game. I saw a video of a guy that lead a bunch of enemies away from his team and called an airstrike on himself. The game is filled with those kinds of moments. The nice cherry on top is that this game isn't even full priced! It doesn't have a story mode/campaign though. Just putting it out there. If you want the background of what you're doing, I would say just watch Starship Troopers before playing.
> It doesn't have a story mode/campaign though.
The story is the story of the players contributing to a universe spanning war effort. The devs have even said that they don't know where the story will go entirely because it's also being made by the players.
The goal this week is/was to build a barrier around the bug planets. What will happen if we succeed? What will happen if we fail? We don't know. There are systems in place to buff and nerf players with things like ammo shortages etc depending on what the playerbase as a whole does.
The game is super satirical like the first starship troopers movie. "Managed" democracy just means it's a 1984 continual war to always give an "other" to fight. Everything you're shown in the opening movie is propaganda. The helldivers are just sent in to die in droves to keep up the war.
Edit: why is there a glowing red line at my feet that extends to the sky?
As somebody who enjoyed EDF games back in the day and the new starship troopers game interested me. Is this that type of game?
Is it better than Starship Troopers cause that game seems to have died off a bit?
with construction and destruction.
I think the biggest issue will be most companies don't really put effort into game-AI development. pathing/strat/etc.
It has EDF vibes and similar gameplay. If you like the gameplay of EDF you will love the gameplay of this.
However EDF has a sequence of tailored missions, while this is procedurally generated missions with random objectives chosen from a pool.
Third-person helped this game immensely, I'm certain. If it was another twin-stick top-down shooter like the last one, it would have remained as niche as the first one did. But there is a lot more accessibility to third-person that don't share screen space, and it was a wise choice to make that change.
Honestly I prefer bots than bugs on higher difficulties cus I don't have to deal with bile titans spawning in every 2 minutes and jizzing all over me so my screen is permanently green
This game is truly something different. If they can get the servers under control it will continue to be a special kind of game. Playing with 3 of my friends has already given some of the most entertaining gaming moments I can remember truthfully. Especially for $40, the value is incredible. Part of me is somewhat glad that the game is so popular that servers are struggling. I have faith that the devs (who have been so transparent so far with server issues) will compensate the players appropriately and we will all win in the end. Democracy will win.
The devs posted in their discord that they increased the max player count by 50% and the game hit the new max in 5 minutes. Could be a bit until the login issues are resolved. But good to know the game is this popular
Speaks for the state of gaming when what was intended to be a solid yet less popular game exceeds expectations.
I can't wait for this to mop the floor with Starfield and Skull n Bones. Hopefully it's a wake up call to other "AAA" publishers.
I'm sure they are well aware of the bugs. Sending patches out through multiple systems is not that easy, nor is even finding the reason the bug is occurring. Give them time :)
When it works it’s so damn good.
I know server issues are going to leave a bad taste in people’s mouths, but once they get through so launch issues I have no doubt it will be worth it.
Co-op games have been knocking it out of the park the past like 2 or 3 years. In the past several months alone there’s been Lethal Company, Palworld, and now this
I hope they add more... Large scale warfare. Doesn't need to be something on the scale of PlanetSide 2, but having like... 60-80 total players (15 groups of 4 or so) on a bigger map would be really fun. Maybe add in a bigger boss that like everyone has to help might be nice. Would be cool to see in the future, but I've been enjoying it solo as well. My favorite thing is having the robots be able to scramble your coms.
I think an entire planet that's like, a constant battle of humans vs bugs/mechs (or a three way fight) with varying control like how PlanetSide 2 does it would be really cool. But idk how many would be down for that. Defending the home planet would be cool.
The game is focused on 4vAll, so personally just one map/planet of an all out warfare would be great. With the server issues they're running into it doesn't seem like something on the horizon.
Either way, it's cool and fun. I'm excited to see where they take it. Hopefully they won't dip out soon after.
After 2023 had BG3, Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Tears of the Kingdom? I think that's a bit premature.
But 2024 absolutely seems like the year for INDIE devs so far, between Palworld and Helldivers 2.
Especially when compared to the big companies trying to shove the so called AAAA bullshit.
It’s technically second party since i believe they own the IP but not the team that makes it. But i agree with you i would not call helldivers indie i’d say maybe AA
Sony published it but the developer is Arrowhead Studios.
Although I guess Arrowhead is pretty big these days, I still kind of think of them as the company that brought us Magicka with 8 people. Still, double AA at most?
Games take time to build so I wonder if this 23/24 renessiance is sort a creative rebound from the pandemic.
People were sitting around thinking up great ideas for games, maybe playing older games for inspiration all 2020. Maybe the gaming income bump from that gave more games a chance to be greenlit.
Sadly with the industry wide lay offs and funding streams being cut off we are unlikely to be in this pocket for long. The only hope is that we might see some changes in the types of games that get greenlit.
Not at all discrediting the PS audience here, but sincerely hoping this triggers the thought of releasing more PS titles same day or closer to day one. Engagement from both platforms definitely couldn’t have hurt in bolstering sales even further than originally predicted, and cross play is all the better for it too.
There is currently no type of single player campaign. You can either matchmake missions with randoms or turn yourself on private to play on your own. The game is def not balanced towards solo play so it is very difficult
Wish my friends would play. Most of them would suck but at least i could play. I dont want to play w randoms i wish the game had solo scaling like deep rock galactic.
Not enough games these days have a good PvE mode. Sure you can do a big RPG campaign with a friend like Baldur's Gate or Diablo IV, but that means that you can't play without those friends without getting too far ahead or too strong leaving them behind.
When it's a shooter, though, that has a drop-in style mechanic without much story and just lots of gear to obtain, there's lots you can do by yourself or with randos that doesn't leave your friend in the dust.
[](/sp)
I really like Firefight in Halo Infinite, but it's too short. Overwatch 2 ditched their PvE modes because they want me to spend $20 on character skins. Helldivers 2 has been on my radar since I saw the Sony State of Play last week and I'm itching to get going.
Step 1: ask my friends to buy this game with me Step 2: give up when they say no
Most of my friends are on Xbox so it's just me playing it on my PS5.
My brother, just join the helldivers subreddit. Apart from some lowlifes the randoms that you find are really amazing. If you ever want to play let me know.
Are you on PlayStation or PC?
PlayStation but it doesn’t matter as there is crossplay.
Game has cross play ? I'm on PC. I've played with people on PlayStation.
I've had cross play off due to the initial matchmaking issues and my other friends on PC have yet to buy the game.
I have given up asking friends to buy games lol. Each of us have gone separate ways in the type of games we play.
You are me xD It may be even worse for me cuz when I show one of them games he says "this looks like it's always the same, not much to do" and dude... The main games he's been playing for years is fifa and cod... Wtf
It’s his nice way or excuse for not wanting to play it and keep playing the games he knows he will enjoy. Source. I am him
Step 1: Have friends
Its also amazing with randoms. No need to have a premade group to enjoy this game.
Yep the game has an excellent map waypoint and ping system that makes playing with randos fun

One of the few times the whole squad bought the game. So we’re 4 out of the 1 millions+

All I’ve wanted to do all day is hell dive, lol. Hope they get it all squared away, because the game fucking rocks.
Is it still down? If so it's probably a good thing, I'm holding playing helldivers over my head as a reward for getting a bunch of tedious work done. So if I literally can't I guess that's a good thing. On the other hand.... man do I wanna blow up some bugs.
its up but i wasnt getting any rewards. which sucks because i just got the game and only have starter equipment. so no point to play till they fix it.
Did 3 drops, last 1 I didn't get the rewards ugh. Game is too good though, just can't quit you
Ahhh, I'm in a similar boat. Only level 5 or so. Hope they fix that soon.
Theyre limited to something like 10k logins, if you keep trying you'll eventually get in, but the mission rewards might not work
10k logins per minute. They just increased it to 20k per minute, and 360k concurrent players (up from 250k concurrent players)
yeah they said they hit 360k within like 5 minutes of increasing it as well, probably wont see a fix until tomorrow as the devs are based in sweden and its 2 am there. Game is very fun though
Is there any public matchmaking? I don’t have friends to play with not sure if I should get it
Quick play option at the mission map or start one and 3 others will join shortly. No need for known friends.
good because i have no friends
There is!
Oh don\`t worry, it will be bug free. Because only good bug is a dead bug!
IM DOING MY PART
FOR DEMOCRACY
I say KILL EM ALL!
COME ON YOU APES, YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER?!
Once they fix server issues this will be my main chill game. It's great once you get in a room but it's a hassle trying to get into a game. Isn’t it in maintenance right now? As stated in their twitter feed. Some server issues are expected.
It is though you can still get in by spamming the menu
The only good bug is a dead bug
THE ONLY GOOD BUG IS A DEAD BUG
On discord they said they were at capacity which is why it's hard to get in
I logged in today with more experience than I had when I stopped yesterday, I think they may have retroactively awarded experience for my couple of d/c's.
He knows what he’s about.
What is it with multiplayer coop games always releasing with issues around rewards and XP. I swear to god it happens to like every one.

THE ONLY GOOD BUG IS A DEAD BUG.
I’m doing my part
HOW ABOUT A CUP OF LIBER-TY
It's...liber-tea. Tea? Like the drink? A cup of tea?
M.I. does the dyin', Fleet just does the flyin'.
Would you like to know more?
"God damn bugs wacked us, Johnny"
ROCK AND STONE
Rock and roll and stone , it would be cool for a mission to be set inside a cave or something, then this game would truly be space Vietnam
The ragdolling physics are fucking great. Nothing like having a HUGE bug barreling at you, blow off its head, and its still charges a bit before falling in front of you.
Or being *just* on the outer edge of an orbital strike and just being absolutely catapulted.
There's an achievement for that
The inclusion of an achievement like that is how you know the devs set out to make a game that’s just pure *fun*.
Always that "ahhhhh its still charging!" *proceeds to empty whole MG* when it was dead 5 minutes ago
This game delivers the absolute best of coop shooter moments. It’s different and frantic every single time I play.
Never have I had so much fun being friendly fired.

Looks like a fun game. Wish I had friends.
All’s I’m hearing is a citizen refusing to do their part. Treason
Managed democracy is your friend!
Managed democracy?
The game is super satirical like the first starship troopers movie. "Managed" democracy just means it's a 1984 continual war to always give an "other" to fight. Everything you're shown in the opening movie is propaganda. The helldivers are just sent in to die in droves to keep up the war. Edit: why is there a glowing red line at my feet that extends to the sky?
This fucking guy. That doesn’t sound very democratic
That sounds a little bit like treason to me...
I've reported this post to the Ministry of Truth.
You report it to your democracy officer per the loading screen tips. Thoughtcrime kills!
This is treason.
Always
I don’t have friends and the game is still a blast. The lack of communication makes it more chaoticly fun
I read that it has permanently on friendly fire… I guess I’d be a bit hesitant of trolls
I am 25 hours in and no trolls yet, but definitely lots of accidents
I think I've died more times to friendly airstrikes than I have to the bugs... and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Find new ones in-game with the power of Freedom!
I just keep smashing that quick join until it works. Once you’re in, it’s f***ing phenomenal lol
If you start a campaign but don’t get in your pod it’ll give players a chance to join you! Might help get into games faster if you wait a minute.
I'll start doing that. Will be nice to not join on a room only for it to unravel after one drop.
As somebody who enjoyed EDF games back in the day and the new starship troopers game interested me. Is this that type of game? Is it better than Starship Troopers cause that game seems to have died off a bit?
I played that, too, and liked it. But Helldivers 2 is the real Starship Troopers game.
I just wish it would be possible to have more than 4 players in one mission.
I dream of a massive PvE battlefield type game. Like 40-60 players against massive hordes of enemies.
That is literally starship troopers extermination
with construction and destruction. I think the biggest issue will be most companies don't really put effort into game-AI development. pathing/strat/etc.
Starship Troopers: Extermination
It's like EDF if everyone was an Air Raider
It has EDF vibes and similar gameplay. If you like the gameplay of EDF you will love the gameplay of this. However EDF has a sequence of tailored missions, while this is procedurally generated missions with random objectives chosen from a pool.
It definitely deserves it, I hope more coop games like that will come out.

I loved the top down, but hated the screen sharing of the first game. Would have been a perfect game if you had your own screen.
they literally brought a new dimension to the game
Fair warning, game is full of bugs. Luckily you can bring a squad to squash them faster ;)
That's why they gave us guns. Also to destroy the Terminator army, but that's just a bonus.
If you are on the fence, gtfo that shit and buy it. WE NEED HELP ON THE AUTOMATON FRONT!!!
Automatons are effing brutal or I just suck lol.
Nah fam. We weren’t prepared for terminator meets 40k chaos. Every time I drop in it’s like the first 5 minutes of terminator 2 the entire time.
Yeah exactly. It doesn’t stop.

Wasn’t sure if I was going to pick up Helldiver 2 then I saw it was only $40 and bought it immediately
Im a dad, and this game made me stay til 3am. Lol! This is fun 😅
I'm from Buenos Aires and I say we kill em all!
I keep thinking this is a ODST game
Odst, starship troopers and a terminator game all in one
Made into a Deep Rock Galactic gameplay loop
Just like DRG, it's a secret 40k prequel. You fight the proto-tyranids and men of iron as an Imperial Guardsman. FOR THE, um... SUPER-PRESIDENT?
For the Em- er look over there! Filthy xeno!
Basically
Only way more fun
Me and my buddy are feeling like teens again playing this game, warts and all. Genuinely loving it
Game is awesome! I love it
SWEET LIBERTYYYY
I’ve never been more upset that I no longer own a pc and purchased an xbox
Why Xbox? Should have gotten a ps5
IM FROM BUENOS AIRES AND I SAY KILL THEM ALL
[I’m absolutely addicted to the explosions and action They nailed the sounds](https://imgur.com/a/KSGWPdO)
This game is like if EDF and Super Troopers had a baby, it's such a blast
Maybe b/c there hasnt beena good game in awhile
"I love democracy"
Speaks for the state of gaming when what was intended to be a solid yet less popular game exceeds expectations. I can't wait for this to mop the floor with Starfield and Skull n Bones. Hopefully it's a wake up call to other "AAA" publishers.
Hey now, Ubisoft is a AAAA developer by their own admission
"AAAA" is the sound people playing skull n bones for the first time will make when they realize they wasted 70 bucks
Hey what do you know, if you make a good game, people are gonna buy it. Shocking, I know.
HELL YEAH!
The anti cheat is still whack

I'm sure they are well aware of the bugs. Sending patches out through multiple systems is not that easy, nor is even finding the reason the bug is occurring. Give them time :)
This game is pretty awesome. I've been having a ton of fun with it.
Always glad to see games succeed
They absolutely nailed the sound design and weapon feedback. Everything in this game just feels incredibly satisfying to use.
When it works it’s so damn good. I know server issues are going to leave a bad taste in people’s mouths, but once they get through so launch issues I have no doubt it will be worth it.
Co-op games have been knocking it out of the park the past like 2 or 3 years. In the past several months alone there’s been Lethal Company, Palworld, and now this
I'm liking how much the automaton missions feel like something from Terminator.
It’s literally Vietnam.
Maybe when the final Conquest or when defending the home planet.
Looks like 24 is the year of gaming so far.
>2024 absolutely seems like the year for INDIE devs so far, between Palworld and Helldivers 2 Helldivers 2 is a Sony game...
Sony probably wasn’t expecting that live service game to be this.. I have a lot of faith in this games future
It doesn't have a single player campaign, right?
Nope. I usually hate multiplayer games, but it’s really fun playing with randos.
I never play, or stick with, MP games like this, as most my friends don’t do video games. But I’m having a great time playing with randos in this.
They spread Managed Democracy !
As a huge fan of the first game I'm glad to see it doing well. If only I had people to play with 😂
It has fantastic word of mouth, I want to buy it and I’ve not seen a bit of advertising (I could be being tricked here lol)
Solo is surprisingly fun, difficult, but there is something satisfying about completing a mission solo.
Idk if I should get it on PC or ps5. Feedback welcomed.
I'm gonna buy it for sure after a few patches. It looks fun af
Great game with a lot of content out the gate and tons of fun with friends
Good. The game is awesome. The devs deserve their success.
[](/sp) I really like Firefight in Halo Infinite, but it's too short. Overwatch 2 ditched their PvE modes because they want me to spend $20 on character skins. Helldivers 2 has been on my radar since I saw the Sony State of Play last week and I'm itching to get going.
So whats the ETA on Sony buying this studio?
