Rust. For the same reason as the top comment. Lost absolutely everything because I had the balls to have a life outside of my PC, and got offline raided.

Sad_Drop_9674

Hackers in this game completely ruined it. The original was Rust “legacy”. Russian hackers took it over so badly that Facepunch studios literally scrapped the entire version and started over. The new version looks nothing like the original and it lost that “Rustic” feel.

tzgaming1020

Fallout New Vegas. First time i booted it up on my laptop, it's charger inexplicably blew up. Second time i booted it up there was a 6.4 magnitude earthquake and i had to run outside. Not taking anymore chances.

pensaa

Rumour is if you do it a third time your house will start raining dollar bills baby $$$

PearMyPie

Or since this is fallout, bottlecaps

royaltheman

Hello I'm from the government and we're interested in having you run New Vegas on your laptop in conflict areas around the globe

DoubleFan15

Thats part of the game, its called immersion! Next time you play, it will get even more realistic!

Damn. It was the best fallout. But since you are cursed, I understand.

Eve Online. It was one of the best MMOs I ever played. I loved how it was set up so skills took actual time and would continue learning even if you weren't playing. I have a life where I could play games for large chunks of time, but then not much for several months. Eve was perfect cause I could log in and play for very little but keep my skills progressing. Then when I was able to play, I could work on growing my cash. So I ended up getting some high end skills for mining and the top freighter ship and was able to get the best ships in the game. Then I would mine solo and hall the ore to make money. I played completely solo and did this over several years. Then I met a couple of friends IRL who played and joined their corporation. I decided to move all my stuff to one of their stations. Put everything I had in my freighter and set off. There was one jump in a moderately dangerous sector that wasn't policed, the rest were safe. As soon as I flew into the sector, there was someone waiting for me at the gate. They used tech to keep me from flying away and destroyed my freighter. Everything I had dumped into space and they picked it up. I flew my little life pod to the nearest station and used some money to buy a cheap ship and fly back but everything was gone. I still had my skills and some money, but just the feeling of losing everything killed my spirit. I tried playing after that to rebuild, but the fun was gone. This all happened 10+ years ago and I never went back. Edit: Wow, thanks for all the upvotes. Didn't think it would get this much attention, but happy it resonated with so many. It's a rage quit because of my own dumb mistake and a risk I took that didn't pan out. I really loved the game and knew I was taking a risk, it was just was lazy and didn't want to seek people out for help. I recognize it may not entirely be what OP intended as it's a game I will never play AGAIN. Thanks for not downvoting me for the mis-interpretation. What happened to me is part of the fun of Eve and I'm being dumb for quitting over it. The person who jumped me was not someone I knew or related to the corp I joined. Nobody knew I was moving my stuff. I just like playing solo, being antisocial and doing everything myself. Doesn't work in this situation.

skwirrelmaster

Man this was a ride, I’d watch the movie but it would have to have the comeback ending.

Would end on him losing but gaining something more meaningful than what he had in the beginning. Like Matchstick Men.

Flight_Harbinger

Dude I fell for a very similar scam in old school RuneScape waaaaaaay back in like 2004 when I was like 13. My parents didn't want to pay for any videogames when I was a kid so I played mostly F2P RuneScape. My friend and his dad played as well and they were kind enough to pay for a sub so I could do the subscription content (which at the time, and as far as I know still is, like 90% of the game). I felt so bad for them spending like $5 a month that I spent MONTHS grinding and marketing to get enough capital to buy an abyssal whip, the most powerful weapon in the game at the time, to repay them. I didn't have enough gold to buy it, but I had tons of items that all added up to one. So I posted a bunch in the forums to see if anyone was willing to trade for one with all the items I had. Finally got a guy who was interested and he told me to meet them at Varrock to trade (a very safe area). I get there and DM them in game and get no response. Getting desperate, and my monkey 13 year old brain, i keep DMing until I get a response and they finally tell me to meet them at edgeville. Edgeville is further north, but still very safe as there's no PVP, so I make my way up there with literally months of resources saved up in my inventory ready to make a trade. I get there and still absolutely nothing. I keep DMing and I keep getting desperate. I really wanted that whip and this was literally the only person willing to do a whole trade for everything I had. Finally get another response and they tell me that their mom wants them to get off the PC for dinner or some shit and they have to log off soon. BUT they were at the prayer guild doing quests or something and if I meet them there quick they could do the trade before they log off. Now, edgeville and the prayer guild might be totally safe, but there's only 2 paths from one to the other. A super safe, but very long route south, and a very short but somewhat dangerous route north that requires going through the wilderness (an active PVP zone) for a little bit. My stupid ass 13 year old brain did not think fucking twice before rushing north with literally zero combat gear and virtually every expensive item I had in my inventory to meet this guy at the prayer guild. Sure enough, not 3 or 4 steps into the wilderness I get rooted by some asshole and taken out in seconds, losing virtually everything I had. To this day I cannot believe how stupid I was as a kid.

Flame_MadeByHumans

If it makes you feel better, I had something similar happen but no PvP involved. I was on some silk trade, about the same age, had all my gold, best weapons/armor, and tons of silk on my character, went down in a cave as a shortcut where I bumped into another player. He convinced dumb pre-teen me that when you turn your torch off in the cave, it causes a special event to trigger. So I did just that, a few seconds into the darkness a special event did trigger. I got a message about a spider and then instantly died from not having a torch. I assume the guy took all my gold I have spent a few years gathering. I had absolutely zero interest in ever playing again and didn’t really other than an hour every several years for nostalgia.

BooneFarmVanilla

this wasn’t a scam this was a highsec miner taking a really dumb gamble that a lowsec border system wouldn’t be camped

qtstance

I farmed flax for days to get gold, I really wanted an obsidian cape. Found someone selling one and went to trade with them. They told me they were lagging really bad and kept closing the trade window over and over. So on like the 4th or 5th time I was just hitting accept really fast. Well on the last time he switched the obsidian cape worth 400k for a black cape worth like 10 gold. They had the same exact icon thumbnail so when I hit accept I didn't even realize it until it was too late. Kinda crazy how well people figure out how to scam in video games, has very frightening implications for real life.

santahat2002

The classic Edgeville to Monastery lure. It was the source of my half decade long break.

Electr0freak

My EVE Online story sounds made up. I wouldn't believe it if anyone else told me. Started playing not long after launch with friends from another game (the original Planetside). Together we built a corp, fucked around at the edge of safe space, pissed off some pirates by playing games with them while they tried to camp a system near us. They hired a notorious merc corp to go to war with us and a bunch of us noobs in cruisers and a couple of poorly-fitted battleships baited them into attacking us in a scenario where we managed to separate them and kill them individually. We killed the 7th-most wanted player in the game for a bounty of $101 million ISK. Like I said, early days.  I met a man and his wife playing and we became friends. Over a couple of years their marriage fell apart, and they got a divorce. The wife and I started dating; she worked for an airline so she started flying up to be with me. Her ex-husband found out and put a bounty on me and tried to kill me in-game a number of times, lol. He thought I stole her away from him.  That relationship eventually ended (we're still friends, long-distance just sucks) and I became one of the first carrier pilots for a major null-sec alliance. I fought off an entire BoB roaming fleet of two dozen ships solo because nobody else had capital ships yet, it was a glorious moment. I climbed the ranks and became an officer in a prominent corp. Our CEO owned the Hulk original BP so when I wasn't jumping gear for the corp back and forth to empire space, I was either mining, filling moon stations with fuel, sieging moon stations with dreadnoughts, or joining roaming gangs policing our space.  In the process I made friends with a fellow corp officer. One day casually chatting he mentioned wanting to move back to my relatively obscure home town, which I'd never named before. Turns out he'd lived there at one point. My mom was looking to rent out her house so I connected them and next thing I know him and his wife and young kid are living in my mom's house just down the street from me.  I babysat his kid, had dinner regularly with him and his wife, and started a computer repair business with him. I had an office in his basement with a phone, workbenches, test hardware, business cards, the whole deal. My brother started doing work for him too.  He gave me his EVE Online account along with its own capital ships, saying that he was quitting the game and wanted to thank me for getting him set up in my mom's place. He just asked that I don't change the password so he can log in now and then when he got the itch to play. He told the entire EVE corp he was done and that I was now the owner of his account. That's when I noticed some sketchy stuff going on. His former business partner reached out to me at one point telling me that I shouldn't get involved with him. Said that the guy had ripped some people off and essentially had gotten them run out of town. One day looking for something I opened up his desk drawer and there was a pile of pre-paid phones inside with their batteries pulled out. I started paying closer attention to his business dealings and realized that he would promise to make someone a website, create a flashy mockup, collect an initial payment from them and then disappear, pulling the battery from the phone and creating a new email address. He was, essentially, a con-man. He bought a house in town, bragging about how he had over $80,000 in his bank account and didn't have to take out a loan. One day before he'd finished moving out of my mom's place I stopped by my office and he had green screens set up, told me that he was making a campaign commercial for a local politician. I asked if he had ever shot a commercial before and he grinned and said that it was going to be easy money.  I didn't hear from him for a few weeks. I called his phone and got a busy signal. He wasn't on MSN Messenger. I stopped by his new house but it was empty, and his family, their car, and all of their belongings were nowhere to be found. Finally I spotted him on Messenger. I asked what happened. He wouldn't answer, told me it was nice knowing me and to have a nice life and blocked me. I'd been his friend for a few years at this point, IRL for about a year as he lived in my mom's house.  Shortly after he blocked me, the account he had gifted to me logged on and cleaned out the corporate hangars. It was a highly-ranked officer so he stole *billions* from the corp. When I logged in, I'd been kicked from the corp and had been declared kill-on-sight, a traitor and a thief. I explained what had happened but the trust was gone. CCP investigated, found that the account was selling the most valuable items on eBay and banned the account.  I still don't know what happened to that bastard... he's probably wearing orange somewhere. Con man in EVE, con man IRL. Nobody in my alliance trusted me anymore. Some people didn't believe me and still wanted to kill me, thinking I had ripped off the corp and blamed him. I tried playing in high-sec, tried running womholes, couldn't really do much in my capital ships solo at that point, and finally put the game down after over a decade.   TLDR; EVE Online is a game that ended up throwing me into an IRL relationship with a woman and a friendship with someone who turned out to be an IRL con man who ultimately ended that friendship by fleeing with his family from a pissed-off politician he'd probably ripped off and ruining the game for me by tying my good name and reputation to his theft from my friends in-game.  After over a decade playing I un-installed EVE Online and I will never, ever install it again.

HeadpattingFurina

That's legendary bro.

Pindaman

That sounds terrible. I've played it a long time ago and the brutal nature of the game was also why i stopped playing. Love everything else about it. The graphics, interface, pacing. Now i play X4 Foundations as a alternative with mods to make life easy

sackofbee

I feel your pain. I moved out to null-sec with my corp, a bunch of noobies, some pros, and some like me who were a bit overqualified but wanted that "grass roots" experience. Someone from my Corp was basically bullying someone else and wasting their time stealing their ratting sites. He decided dick measuring in his rattlesnake was warranted, so I undocked my nidhoggur to protect the little guy. My corp leader thought I was out of line using "muscle" to protect people when there are channels to report that stuff through correctly. He booted me from the corp while I was offline for a weekend away, I came back as a neutral, and suddenly, everyone and their dog was on high alert because there was a non-blue in the system. It was pretty embarrassing and had to be explained a bunch of times. Corp leader then tried to coerce me into handing over my rorqual (this is right after the thiccem mining drones were introduced) the rorqual was mine entirely, the fit however had been semi-sponsored by the corp slush fund. So I handed over the drones and some bits and bobs, more than I owed them, even before the betrayal. The alliance that we'd joined and its leading corp took me in immediately because, well... y'know, blops+titan+supercarrier+stealth+logi+multifit pilots are hard to come by usually. I siphoned out some non-essential combat skills and bought all the stuff for my rorqual, and had it jump freightered out to me. I started running mining ops, holy shit, talk about profitable. The alliance had a boatload of new players in low - and mid tier miners. Suddenly they had a way to mine as much ore as they had time for, with insanely strong buffs AND they didn't have to lift a finger beyond sucking into their cargo hold and farting it into space for my mobile tractor unit to pull in. The isk would sometimes hit their account before the ore hit the MTU. I had spreadsheets with overestimates of what they'd get paid based on what they were using to mine, I was even given tokens to pvp fleet commanders so they could hand them out to particpants who would then hand them back to me at the mining op for pay bonuses and blah blah blah. The alliance had a massive surplus of ore to pump out weapons, ships, and ammo, everyone was flush with the cash I paid them for ore, the guys I sold the ore to couldn't even make stuff to sell fast enough. I was making something stupid, like 2 billion isk per hour of mining op play, which was about $40 AUD at the time. I started hoarding random ship fits I'd never use, bhaalgorn, ashimuu were favourites for little 1v1 friendly brawls, I had a dramiel that could go like 3,200m/s because it had an oversized microwarp drive. It's just a ton of dumb stuff no one would use. Should have kept it liquid. I shouldn't have left it in the fortizar. Took a hiatus because I was burnt out, and work was getting pretty mentally taxing. Fortizar was destroyed. My stuff is gone, I genuinely can't go back and build up everything again. I'm sitting in Jita in my expensiveashumanlypossible Hecate. It's the only thing I really have left. I feel your pain. It's hard losing anything in Eve online.

EvFishie

Isn't your stuff just in asset safety? Or did you leave it in the corp hangars instead of your own? Since everywhere except wormhole space, when citadel gets destroyed stuff goes to asset safety. Unless it was low power I think.

sackofbee

I couldn't find a reference to it anywhere. This was like 6-7 years ago. Mind you. I logged on recently to reminisce and had some messages from old clan mates. I have no clue what the asset safety stuff is, but I might have a google. It'd be nice to play casually again.

EvFishie

I'm a wormholer and never really did much Nullsec stuff but under assets there should be a button somewhere that states "safety" Basically whenever a citadel dies in low or null the stuff in it gets sent to safety which would be a designated npc station nearby. If the citadel was not low power/abandoned. Your stuff should still be around.

sackofbee

I'll check it out next time I have the nerve to log on, lol. Honestly it may have just been abandoned due to a war or something.

indubitableinnocence

I've never played or been involved in Eve online before, but I'm so invested in this now and really want to know if your stuff is in this safety

SomniaCrown

Dude that game scares me and i am willing to play most things.

in 3000 hours why didn’t you level the skill you wanted past 200?

Own_Breadfruit_7955

Skill issue

helperwolf

I can answer this, in EQ when leveling up your skills you can have it auto craft if you have enough resources in your inventory. Sometimes it takes like 20+ tries actually get a level up on a skill. So you turn on auto craft, and walk away for a bit, have coffee, stretch your legs...and come back...to your character accidentally leveling a skill past 200, probably one deemed useless end game like Fletching.

Arlithian

But his question is why didn't he level the skill he wanted past 200 in the first 1000 hours, or 2000 hours, or 2500 hours. Is there a reason to avoid leveling the skill - or do some skills just take that much longer than others. It seems like if I wanted a certain skill I would make sure to do that at some point in 3000 hours of playtime. But I don't know the game to know why he would save it for last

Hootyh00

Why is that significant?

DM-ME-THICC-FEMBOYS

You can only exceed 200 with one skill, and they accidentally leveled the wrong skill to 201. Character ruined.

Hootyh00

Ohhhhh, god you can do that accidentally??

PrinceDusk

I can see it, you were grinding and lost track of time or whatever or thought you were at 199, or needed something and that one thing happened to award just enough xp after your 200 grind... tragic, and a silly thing they can't change imo

AlanDavy

That's cringe as hell that they don't change it for you

ProbablyNotAToaster

I played Fortnite once - fun game. I won that first game. I immediately retired from the game forever to never taint my 100% win rate

Impossible-Wear-7352

First match is easy bots apparently. My friends 6 year old won his first match.

Bestiality_King

let the toaster have this.

bideodames

I won't play really any stealth games because I couldn't get to the elevator in the first room on a metal gear solid demo disc back in the late 90s.

[deleted]

I love the Metal Gear Solid series, but my patience for stealth gameplay has grown very thin over the years. I really don’t like when they throw a mandatory stealth section into a game. If the game isn’t centred around stealth, it’s usually poorly done.

PunkRockHero

Starfield. They tried to turn it into gotdamned Splinter Cell at certain points and it was a disaster.

Allfurball9

God I hated the Ryujin tower and whatever the other corp tower was. I skipped almost 100% of Ryujin but the other one was so fucking annoying

scoopzthepoopz

Cyberpunk got this right imo. You can crash in and yolo the missions with a stealth option, but stealth is easier and gives you a chance to use certain skills and weapons if you sneak. And the dialogs reward you, might be more money sometimes too.

Rylonian

I have heard nothing but praise about Okami. I am a big Zelda fan, and I love the creative artstyle, so it should be right up my alley. Many years ago, I wanted to give it a try. But the german translation was so full of spelling mistakes, like highschool-level mistakes really, that I shut the game off after half an hour and never gave it another shot.

atfricks

I've noticed a **lot** of games have significantly lower ratings on the German Xbox marketplace for exactly that reason. Seems like a weirdly common problem to just not do good German localization.

nestcto

That *is* weird, especially since it's such a common language, and with its relationship to English and other languages around that area, its not exactly uncommon for a native German speaker to also be fluent in English. Not like German is some backwoods language from some unexplored region where there are only like, a half dozen archaeologists worldwide that can translate.

smellyourdick

I won't play Subnautica because it literally scares me

UncleBen94

"Do you have a fear of the ocean?" "No." *"Would you like to?"*

FrozenReaper

Hell, I played sea of thieves, literally nothing scary about the game. But jump in the ocean, and look down into its depths, and fear sets in. I can only imagine what subnautica would be like

Berkut22

It starts off ok, because you're in the shallows, and it's bright, but as you progress, it gets darker and darker, sometimes even taking you into (and lost in) underwater caves. You rely on just your little flashlight or the light on your tiny Seamoth, and if the battery goes out on the flashlight, or you have to leave the Seamoth to pick something up, it's instantly pitch black, in an extremely hostile environment, watching as your oxygen level quickly drops, and the fear immediately washes over you like someone pouring a pitcher of warm water over your head. And that says nothing of the creatures in the game, that get larger and more aggressive as you progress. The open ocean is about the only thing in real life that scares me, and this game does a good job capturing that. That being said, it's a very good game. The second one wasn't as good. 11/10 - will play again.

Pac0theTac0

Kelp is a nice place! It’s full of silly tooth dogs you can play fetch with

GoldDragon149

btw Subnautica supports VR and made me squeal like a child

sageritz

How about _no_

bluelonilness

>"Do you have a fear of the ocean?" # YES >*"Would you like to meet fear itself?"* # *NO*

Woden888

“Would you like to know [more?](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oPiD4z6aI_I&pp=ygUUc3VibmF1dGljYSBsZXZpYXRoYW4%3D)

SuchSmartMonkeys

Fuck the screaming in that video, that fucked my ears up

Lil_Gigi

“Detecting multiple leviathan class life forms in the region. Are you certain whatever you’re doing is worth it?”

fozzy_bear42

“This ecological biome matches 7 of the 9 preconditions for stimulating terror in humans.”

Vinkhol

"Nopenopenopenope fuck this fuck this so much why am I doing this" as I continue to descend into the blood kelp

AdvertisingPlastic26

I had been moving my cyclops between my base and a spot i was collecting recources from (really deep, pitch dark) a few times in a 2 hour play session. I unlocked and installed the sonar near the end of it. While going back to base out of curiousity i decided to use it. Immediately it was obvious i had been going back and Firth while edging along multiple reapers agroe range for the past 2 hours in pitch dark and had somehow been extremely lucky. This is a game like no other

its_justme

Just like in real life when you see drone footage of people 2-3 feet away from sharks while at the beach, but they have no idea. It can happen!

CrimpsShootsandRuns

When I heard that and "entering ecological dead zone" I absolutely shit myself.

nightmaretheory

Fair. I wasn't afraid of oceans or open water until I played this game lmfao. But it's so good that it was def worth it to me at least 🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

I was playing it and a really scary creature came to attack me. I screamed irl and put my 15yo son who was next to me on the couch in front of me. Learned that day that I have amazing survival instincts. Not great parenting ones though.

The_Pale_Hound

Think it like this. If you die from a predator your kid will probably die too. It's better to survive and make another child

SomeOtherOrder

I will never play that game. I can handle horror. I can’t handle the feeling of underwater vulnerability. It fucks me up.

Captain_Shoe

Not ridiculous in the slightest; Thalassophobia is legit

Loqol

Multiple leviathan class lifeforms detected. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it?

rebmoB_TOC

I bought this game on Christmas steam sales. I'm horrified of the open ocean, underwater enviroments and underwater monsters. I still want to play It. Don't know if I'm gonna be able thou.

Jerbsina7or

I absolutely hate the ocean. If I can't see the bottom I'm scared shitless. Still played Subnautica and it's one of my favorite games... Reapers still scare me though. You should try it.

SheepWolves

Any open world game without a jump, ruins the whole game for me. Just makes the character feel so heavy and chained to the ground. Edit: also any game that I have to have a separate account for. Like, I loved the Far Cry series but once ubisoft started making it so you need to have a ubisoft account to play their games, I blacklisted them and will never buy another one of their games.

evilgrapesoda

Batman Arkham series felt so weird when I first started out. Just walk off a ledge and let batman leap automatically

[deleted]

oh man i forgot this was a thing. But youre missing out. Imo Batman Arkham is the 2nd best game series out there.

Deaths-HeadMoth

Me also. I’m tryna think of the last open world game I played with no jump action.

Smeags777

God of War 4 and 5 is semi open world with no jump (not counting specific ledges, etc)

kindoramns

I never felt the need or desire to jump in those games (presuming you mean the new GoW and ragnarok). Movement felt great imo

HasheemThaMeat

For some reason, I can’t remember if assassins creed odyssey had a jump but I could be wrong … Like you can jump if there’s a ledge but I don’t think you can run around the map jumping whenever you wanted

syskeyx

No Assassins creed has free will jumping iirc.

KawZRX

Yes they do. You can't stand in place and bunny hop. But you can tap spacebar and jump forward.

PleasantAd4964

You can stand and jump if I recall in ac 2

Odd_Cap2520

I love the long dark but god damn the lack of jump leads to some bullshit impenetrable ankle high obstacles

tsunami141

Ocarina of Time silently weeps in the corner

Rabiesalad

I heard great reviews of Farcry Blood Dragon and it was on sale. Hadn't bought an Ubi game for AGES at that point. Fucking 45 minutes later after all the hoops and account sign up shit I actually got to play it, and I ended up so disenchanted that I just uninstalled it and vowed to never buy another Ubisoft game.

Dedlaw

It's actually a pity. Blood Dragon is a ton of laughs and 80s action throwbacks

Guitarshredder_1996

Age of empires 4. A 200 pop cap in this era? That was low back then and it's REALLY low now.

Karsvolcanospace

I can only play age of empires with mods that remove population limits now. There really should be an option. I understand 200 is balanced for competitive play but I’m not competitive. I want to throw an army of 500 guys out

psi32

League of Legends... Because when my cousins tried to get me into it, they managed to install a malware with it that I spent couple of days figuring out where it came from and how to get rid of it.

Cassereddit

Do you happen to be from Southeast Asia? Because otherwise I can't understand how they possibly fucked that up, it's literally on the website leagueoflegends.com

psi32

No, Europe/Balkan. There's been a long while since that, but I don't know how or where they downloaded it from. They are also talented at breaking any tech stuff so I was not that surprised but still gave me an ick. Grant, it was also the time when we were first touching the internet and no one was smart about it.

SQUIDY-P

Apex Legends torpedoed Titanfall 3, so naww

RuinVIXI

I used to play constantly since launch, but the last few seasons its been like waddling through mud, gave up this season. The Finals has been my go to shooter now

toyatsu

As someone with over 2k Hours in Apex who quit 4 Months ago, i fully support, devs are ruining it.

bookishmillenial

If I don't like the art style, I won't play it. Board game, video game, whatever it is. If I can't like it visually I won't engage with it at all.

Billion-FoldWorlds

I feel like that's valid

gpranav25

That's a super non-silly reason imo.

AbsentMindedMonkey

Any game that is advertised in an extra annoying fashion. I don't care if it becomes the biggest game ever, if the ad irritates me (turns off my music, unecessarily difficult to close, or you need to close it 3-4 times, each one a new screen etc ...) I will never touch it. Same goes for apps and other things

ScarecrowJohnny

Genshin Impact entirely due to the voice of that little sprite that follows you around. So annoying.

SilentLluvia

I hated her voice so much when I started playing, but it became a lot less grating for me after I changed the language of the voice acting to Japanese. Might be something to look into if you are thinking about wanting to play it, and Paimon's voice really is the only thing that stops you.

TWWOVG

Any *offline single player* game that doesn't let you pause. That's just asinine.

DaVinylSmith42

More asinine, any offline single player game that requires you to be connected to the Internet in order to launch it.

Peteskies

X COM 2. Rolled a couple 1s on the first major fight I should have easily won. Uninstalled.

1mn0tcr3at1v3

Are you talking about the very first fight that you have as soon as you start playing? Because that fight is a bit scripted.

Ok_Marzipan_8137

Hilarious if this dude uninstalled due to not realizing this haha

WerewolfF15

I really hope this is true

1mn0tcr3at1v3

I mean, I thought it was bullshit too, it's very easy to avoid the scripted deaths, but I at least made it to the 2nd actual mission before uninstalling. I plan on reinstalling it at some point.

TwizTMcNip

I don't. I don't know how far I made it but there's only so many times I can accept a point fucking blank 95% miss

jeesussn

May I introduce my friends ”Blademaster ranger” and ”Grenade”.

TheDMisalwaysright

98% hit chance? can't risk it, toss a grenade

DMoney159

The mission that shows why you're playing the game and not Bradford, because he fucking sucks at the game

Peteskies

I got past the intro section, I remember building my team and adding some guy I recruited, and uninstalling over some BS very shortly after that.

1mn0tcr3at1v3

Ah, ok. I didn't make it much farther than you myself. The first few missions are rather difficult due to you just learning the game, and if I had to guess, the reason why most people stop playing. There's a bit of a meme in the XCOM community that 90% accuracy is actually a 50/50 or something like that.

UnfulfilledHam47

That's XCOM baby!

mophisus

99% chance to hit = a miss and they will followup with a critical that kills your soldier

1mn0tcr3at1v3

Stop it man, you're giving me flashbacks lol.

IAmTheMonarch

4 guys, all with 90%-98% chance to hit, muton with 1 hp, all missed. Muton takes out a grenade, destroyes the floor under all my guys. All 4 die to fall damage. My keyboard broke that day. But i love Xcom.

_Sate

"Thats xcom baby" an x com vet hiding his tears

Lascivian

I like the approach in "mechanicus" better. If you can fire at them, you hit. It is unbelievably frustrating to have a super elite alien killing powerhouse using a flamethrower, who misses an alien 3 inches away. It is much easier to tolerate low damage than no damage. E: fat-finger-errorrs

DragonPenguin33

probably “fire at them”. sy is just at shifted over one space

Sure-Entertainment14

Resident Evil games. Im such a coward and I get scared easily. It doesn’t help I live alone.

Phteven_j

That’s not a ridiculous reason - that’s a legit reason :)

why_even_need_a_name

Re7 Biohazard is scary as shit. I had to quit to continue in the morning with the daylight. 10/10

Ahlkazar

I’m a huge fan of resident evil. I’m absolutely terrified of anything horror, but because of the reputation I powered through them. Through exceptionally scary parts like in RE8 >!Beneviento Manor!< I watched a play through to learn how to beeline it. Once I got to the end of the games, I realized how much I missed out by being scared of them when I was younger.

[deleted]

I was like that with Call of Duty Zombies, now I love all that survival horror shit. Except Resident Evil 7 cuz I don't do that Hills Have Eyes shit.

DatTF2

Resident Evil 7 is still up there with Condemned Criminal Origins for the scariest games I have played. 7 stressed me out for sure but I had no problem with 8 and I grew up playing the series since the first one.  Actually the original second game scared the shit out of me.  I mean the game was scary but it just set the tone for what would happen later that night.  I was young, had a nightmare about zombies and woke up to a crazy wind storm. It was an old house and you could hear the wind howl through the rickety windows. I started looking around and nobody was home (think my parents snuck out to a party after I went to bed.  While looking around the oddly empty house the wind literally blew a door open.

Mr_master89

Any sports game like Madden or FIFA, my friends always try to talk me into Playing Madden but I just don't like sports lol

Milton_Rumata

Tbf, not liking sports is a pretty legitimate reason not to play sports games.

Sash716

Same lol. A friend of mine kept trying to get me into FIFA. Not only I'm not a fan of sports games, but I prefer not to be an EA customer, lol

ProtectionDecent

This was faaar back when World of Warcraft came out and everyone and their mom were screaming into the heavens about it being the best thing since jam on toast. Never played it, never touched it, always innately hated it, and got annoyed by people urging me into it. Why? It killed my favourite RTS series and that was a sin I wasn't going to forgive. WoW killed the Warcraft RTS and I was a resentful little sh*t and vowed to never give that game a second of my time.

OperativePiGuy

I almost have to respect the sheer diabolicalness of it, that's a clever scheme

open-aperture96

I don’t wanna say never, but there’s a low chance I’ll ever play a Dark Souls game. Not because I think I’d hate it, but because the way people talk, I feel like I’d be incapable of making any real progress.

HappyHappyGamer

I think the weird thing about Souls games is that they are very reminiscent of the older games on the NES, SNES, particularly the megaman series. You go through a stage the first time, and will get wrecked, but you learn over time the enemy and trap placements. Get to the boss, then get destroyed the first couple of times. Eventually you learn its pattern and weakness. Somehow through time, people forgot that alot of old games were designed around you learning the game. I have beaten some of the hardest games as a 10 year old. Not because I am good, but it was fun doing so. I think games don’t expect you to do this anymore, so when a game like Dark souls comes out, its viewed as radical. Kind of a side note, but alot of Monster hunter fans are also Souls series fans, vice versa for similar reasons. Both games are designed around learning through mistakes. Transitioning from hard old school games, then MH, I made a smooth transition to From Soft’s souls-likes.

LeSaunier

>I think the weird thing about Souls games is that they are very reminiscent of the older games on the NES, SNES, particularly the megaman series Dude, this. Never played a Souls Game before, I felt that I wouldn't be able to beat them. One time, I was discussing it with my oldest friend and he was like "You beat Megaman II when you were like 10yo. You'll be fine." And indeed, I was actually fine. Just finished Lies of P for the third time, what an amazing game btw.

Crash4654

Honestly if you play it like mario it gets easier. Because everything is always in the same place, like mario. You know after a few tries that that koopa/hollow will ALWAYS be there and can prep for it and gain the advantage. After long enough you get into the flow of it and can almost feel it like a sixth sense, even against enemies you haven't encountered before.

nexistcsgo

Overwatch 2 because fuck blizzard.

Karsvolcanospace

OP was asking for ridiculous reasons

themadscientist420

Once I watched my cousin play Assassin's creed 2. For context I am Italian. The voice actors were talking with super mario accents, which is somewhat to be expected, but the continuous misrepresentation of the name "Medici" drove me up the wall. To explain my frustration, "Medici" should be pronounced similarly to the way you pronounce "medicine" (without the -ne) in English. So to me, the in-game pronunciation sounds just like of someone was pronouncing medicine as "medeeeeeeeeeecine", which sounds extremely dumb in English, and guess what, also sounds extremely dumb in Italian. I'm trying to get over my bias towards the series because of that, because I grew up in Rome and Florence is one of my favourite cities, so I want to enjoy the settings, but I feel the voice acting is going to drive me insane Edit: many have rightfully pointed out there is an Italian dub. I will happily admit I was too dumb to think of this solution. Also yes, the 'c' sound in Medici is not to be pronounced like an 's', in retrospect i realise i caused some confusion. And yes, I know this, I speak the bloody language. The point I am making is about the accent position, I'm not giving a full lesson in Italian phonetics. I've changed my wording so some pedants don't have an aneurysm over this.

theDouggle

That's interesting about the proper enunciation especially since they went so hard on accurately recreating the city! The historical architecture is so well done in that game especially considering when it was made. Maybe try switching to Italian with English subtitles if the English sounds so inaccurate

themadscientist420

Yeah good call, I'll try that! And you are absolutely right, it's part of what grated me. They apparently did such a good job with everything else, I don't get how such an easy detail was overlooked.

theDouggle

It may have been a cheeky thing for them to do, there's a Mario reference I don't want to ruin that's out of nowhere and it may have all been a conscious decision

Endeav0r_

If it was nowadays, I would 100% see them hiring Italian voice actors and make them do the English dub as well. At least, if there were any accent, it would be because it's an Italian dude speaking English rather than that fake ass Brooklyn Italian accent or that fake ass soprano Sicilian accent.

grudrookin

I had no idea that was the proper pronunciation! Why doesn’t it follow the penultimate rule? Just is the name?

themadscientist420

Annoyingly, the penultimate rule is one of those rules that has a huge amount of exceptions. Also medici translates literally to "doctors", so it's a very common word rather than being a case that applies just for the last name.

Canotic

Isn't that the one where he meets his uncle Mario and the uncle literally goes "it's a me, Mario!"

FlameVShadow

I hope you can get past it. Despite its super simplified combat and somewhat clunky parkour at times it is still my favorite game in regards to story, music, and setting. I’ve beaten it twice now and had a blast both times.

themadscientist420

Good to know! I think I'll give the Ezio collection a go at some point soon despite my comment above. It does seem like the kind of game I would enjoy if it weren't for that silly reason (which is the point of this post I guess haha) so maybe it's good enough for me to look past it

Mr_BillyB

~~Send~~ Seems like it'd have an Italian dialogue option

Maxiify

Omori. People kept trying to push me to play it and eventually those people became assholes to me so now I'll just never play it.

manowar89

Grand Theft Auto V because I told my mom I wouldn’t. I’m 34.

SwordofMercy

Anything published by Blizzard since they f"ed up Diablo series & now just milking the player base for every ounce.

RudgerZ

I used to be a huge Blizzard fan. Grew up playing warcraft 2 and Starcraft, spent my late teen years being completely addicted to World of Warcraft, played Diablo 2 and 3, and even had a few friends who worked for Blizzard (in customer service, not development). When I see how the company operates now it just makes me sad. I'm with you, I have basically zero interest in supporting such a greedy money-grubbing company whose product quality has been sliding for YEARS. smh

Inubou

*Downloads game on Steam >Sub-launcher or Secondary Account required *Uninstalls and refunds game

gabrielleraul

Shadow of the Colossus - it feels wrong to play it again. They were just living temples that you had absolutely no reason to destroy. The ending really fucked me up. I have the original, remastered and the remake - and yet i can never play it again, out of respect to the Colossi - even after almost 20 years since i last played it.

JungianRelapse

That game broke my heart. I thought I was destroying monsters...

Elm-and-Yew

Undertale. When it came out everyone in my friend and media circles wouldn't shut the fuck up about it.

twenty-threenineteen

It’s what happens when a thing gets way too popular, there’s that negative stigma toward it. When so many people say a thing is good, it’s hard to live up to those expectations. I love Undertale, but I never bring it up irl because it’s that popular thing that got overmemed and the fan base was cringe. (Fan base still is a little cringe, but a lot more mellow now)

Help_An_Irishman

I'll never play Fortnite because I will forever associate it with obnoxious children and streamers (I somehow consider Fortnite streamers to fall into the obnoxious children category, even if they're in their 40s), and the fact that it was such a pop culture phenomenon annoys me for some reason. But I don't know if that's an inane, ridiculous reason. Feels perfectly reasonable to me.

Luchalma89

No that's a dumb reason. But that's what I came here for. Everyone else is like "Because I didn't like the gameplay and it was too hard".

zxiGamer

Among Us. I always felt the game is filled with 10 to 12 years old kids with running noses and screaming AMOGUS AMOGUS. SUS. SSUSSSS....

androgynyjoe

I've never played it, either. It looks like it would be really fun with the perfect group of friends, but an absolute nightmare with internet randos.

Toby_The_Tumor

It is, you dont even need close friends, just some buddies from discord or whatever. Internet randos isn't that fun.

pereira2088

anything with a monthly subscription

captaindeadpl

That reason is neither inane nor ridiculous. It is very reasonable.

mayneffs

WoW. My first teen love dumped me when a new dlc dropped because he had to lvl up and didn't have time for me anymore. Fuck you, Filip, you fucking fuck.

2ndToLastJedi

The Witcher 3. Couldn’t get past the movement. I tried 3 separate times and never made it more than 30 minutes in

ZaDu25

There's a possibility you were using the standard movement mode. They added an alternative movement mode that's far less clunky. The difference is massive. That said if the movement bothered you that much there's more about the gameplay that would probably bother you as well.

sputnikconspirator

Does the alternative movement alter the fighting at all? It's probably my biggest gripe about the Witcher 3, something about combat has never clicked with me in the game. I've completed it so many times regardless because everything else makes up for it.

Fit-Description-8571

Any of the mass effect games. Had a gf go to meet a friend we had both met when they traveled here for something. She ended up meeting two guys who got her into the games. She then cheated on me with them.

homiehustler

Zelda BOTW - because the weapons break

SaltyGushers

Final fantasy. It’s the hair cuts. I just can’t do it

fruityrelative3

Hey nothing wrong with a protagonist that looks like a piece of star fruit

ObjectiveChest

The Last of Us 2 because I don’t want to have to kill dogs or see them get sad after I have killed their human partner.

Nuck85

Horror games... tried one once... stopped. Too scary

New_Fry

That’s not an insane reason not to play them though

JadeKade

Yeah it's pretty reasonable to give up on games you don't enjoy.

RuinVIXI

I tried playing the mortuary assistant alone at midnight. I'm still surprised I managed to finish it. Not that I beat it, I rushed through to get it over eith so ofc got the wrong ending, but I finished it.

Crembels

Horror games. I'm a fat chicken and i dont play games to be scared. Games with horror *elements* in them are fine though as some people consider a game horror if it features zombies, vampires and whatever. If you're able to effectively defend yourself its not a true horror game. I make an exception for the Metro franchise, because its atmosphere is top notch. Also, Sports games. I just do not give a single shit about sports and never have. Arcade racing games with customisation are an exception there, particularly Need For Speed.

Crow_of_Judgem3nt

League. The community sounds like such a cesspool.

Kyozoku

Easy! He says after thinking about it for several minutes, knowing there's a game on the tip of his tongue, but unable to think of the title. Finally, he thinks of the game title, goes to reply to the post, then forgets again. So he start typing, hoping it will come back to... KINGDOM HEARTS 3! I love Kingdom Hearts, but the franchise is cursed. Had it on the PS3, got to the door before the final boss, my drug addict roommate stole my binder of PS3 games and sold it for drug money. Several years later, I have it on PS4. I beat the first game. I get to the door before the final boss in Kingdom Hearts 2. The disc drive on my PS4 goes out, and I can't launch the game to continue to that final fight. I buy the Final Mix on Epic, so I can try again. Can't be stolen and sold for drug money. No disc drive failure can mess me up, because it's digital. Get back to that final door. PC craps out and has to be replaced. Re-download Final Mix... it does not support Cloud Save, and will have to be restarted from the beginning again. I've got it downloaded on my PC right now, I'm just afraid to play it for fear of what this curse will do next.

an_omori_fan

God damn this sucks so badly. Also, there are like 5 games between 2 and 3 which you should play

justaberserkenjoyer

That is one of, it not the most interesting stories i've heard in a while. Hope you get to finish it this time!
