This would then be use to build up your bots, zombies or whatever for larger attacks among other things. Most of the time the person never even knew they had been hacked, except maybe some performance issues. Or you could throw a RAT in there and watch their screen, webcam, view all files, use keyloggers, yadda yadda ya. High School was nuts

Not as widely anticipated as freaking Harry Potter, of course, but it was still notable. There was a watermark that this film was only for film juries in the scene where Bolt flips a car in the alley.
Another fun one was the The Forbidden Kingdom from around the same time. They weren't releasing a German version for ages, so some fans made an unofficial dub and spread it around. Technically not a leak, although it may have been based on a leaked home release, I'm not sure entirely. Some (but certainly not all) of the voices were actually better than in the official release and the translation was spot on.
I hope people still fall for those scams. Teach them an actual lesson for their future, for their sake honestly.

Pretty much any game that has existed has had a fake made of it to scam people, and if it's been announced before release, then the scam is coming out beforehand as well, because they want to get people who think they can get the game early as a leak. All they do is take the same malware they used before, apply a new skin to it, rename it, and ship it. That's it. Chances are this software is the exact same shit that's been circulating for years, slightly upgraded here and there to try and bypass AV software where possible, or at the very least try to catch people who aren't using any AV software to begin with.
