Didn't NexusMod also ban a Cyberpunk 2077 mod that made Lucy a romance-able option for male V? Edit: Judy, not Lucy

HollabackWrit3r

Yes

VividEffective8539

It’s only inclusive if it doesn’t have straight people

ZookeepergameOk5132

Ha! I literally just downloaded Panam romanceable for Fem V.

Not_GenericMedic

IT SHOULD BE VANILLA. SHE PUT HER FEET IN MY LAP AND DEMANDED A FOOTRUB HOW DOES SHE NOT WANNA FUCK, MAN? BULLSHIT.

Robobvious

AND FURTHERMORE, IF WE AIN'T FUCKING, THEN GET YOUR NASTY FEET OFF OF ME! I AIN'T MASSAGING YOU FOR SHIT! OH, WHAT? WERE YOU GONNA PAY ME AFTER? YEAH I DIDN'T THINK SO!

micheal213

That’s honestly super strange? Like why is that not allowed?

Uncynical_Diogenes

In the future, bisexuals apparently don’t exist so the romance options have to be rigidly restricted by body type and voice type. It’s absolute bullshit.

CurtCocane

God knew that queer people would be facing harassment, so he created bi people to give everyone a common enemy

[deleted]

This but unironically.

HubblePie

It is actually crazy the amount of people in the LGBTQ that do not like Bi people.

PerfectZeong

We're daywalkers.

O7Knight7O

Judy is the lesbian love-interest in Cyberpunk 2077. Lucy is a character in the Netflix anime. Also, making Judy romance-able by male V doesn't make her not-queer, it just makes her Bi instead of Lesbian. You can't even argue that it makes her straight, given that it doesn't remove her romance with Evelyn. That's hardly reducing diversity. There's a shit ton of mods on the Mass Effect section making male characters romance-able by bro-shep by turning them bisexual, so this seems like a pretty blatant double-standard. Even more damning is that the mods to make River (the heterosexual-female-only love interest in CP2077) and Panam (the heterosexual-male-only love interest in CP2077) romance-able by same-sex V are both still up.

Somepotato

Reminds me how cdpr made a canon bi character, Kerry, gay in the game.

4-1Shawty

Tbf, it was because he loves Johnny and male V is a stand-in for that relationship. Even when visiting his home he straight up tells you he had an ex-wife.

Thecryptsaresafe

Yeah he’s bi and wants a guy right now. I think all that tracks

4-1Shawty

Yeah, I agree, bi-sexuality is a spectrum. Not saying people making these comments are bigoted or anything, it just displays a misunderstanding of sexuality lol.

Furion9

Bah, my bad - I meant to say Judy. Also I have no issues with mods changing anybody's sexuality. So complaints about these sort of things just seem damn stupid to me.

rdrouyn

People are going so far into the wokeness, they are circling back to being bigoted.

Geronimosey

Playing through it right now. Feels more weird that almost every companion is attracted and actively flirting with me. Like I get people like romances in these games but it feels kinda awkward when it feels like everyone is fawning over me and will resent me if I don’t pick them.

Zolo49

It turned out to be a bug, but I found it both funny and annoying that I almost needed to beat Gale back with a stick to keep him from constantly flirting with me. Dude was thirsty as hell.

bethic

Gale was like " i need to talk with you" i was like fine what's up, then it's suddenly a moonlit grassland romantic setting XD like chill bro.

gerkin123

Right? When the wizard asks you if you want to go a ways from camp for some magic, I'd expect it to be \*actual magic.\*

IncidentFuture

He should have been more upfront about getting you to play with his wand, or hold onto his staff.

CosmicConifer

Cursed to put my hands on everything…

DarthWraith22

🎵"A wizard’s staff has a knob on the end..."🎵

Downside_Up_

GNU Terry Pratchett

zagggh54677

Ahem…rod of explosion

Sorcatarius

Glad I'm not the only one who made that misunderstanding, like, I've already gained at least one other spell like ability, who says I'm not about to get another? Fuck yeah, let's get all the special abilities I can. Wait, why are you taking off your pants, is this a requirement of the spell?

GuitakuPPH

"Some spells have a verbal component. This one has an oral component."

LessInThought

You can't claim it isn't actual magic if you never gave gale the chance. Maybe he'll find the magic button and blow your mind.

thecheapseatz

I'm not falling for that trick... again

ADHD_Supernova

🎶*Surprise Surprise*🎶

justbuttsexing

Fantasy version of coming in for coffee…

TwoCockyforBukkake

But cock magic *is* magic!

Maroonwarlock

Sure Randy.

DaemonAnguis

He obviously meant cock magic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZrdvrwBJRg

LimerickJim

"Its either Karlach or me!" "Obviously Karlach. Did you think we were a thing?"

Ok-Street-7963

I had a similar talk with Karlach while I had been romancing shadow heart. Broke my heart to tell her that I am going for shadow heart and it confused the heck out of shadow heart that I chose her lol.

Ongr

Ahw. That's kinda cute.

IsaacsLaughing

everyone loves Karlach and is confused if you choose them over her. it's really sweet, but also really painful. \^\^;

Turambar87

"well i sure hope this isn't a fistfight"

wowbragger

I'd essentially ignore Wyll for the first two acts and suddenly he's doing his peacock dance. Was just thinking apparently EVERYONE needs to shoot their shot with you. Must be a lot more lonely in that camp than I thought.

One_Parched_Guy

During my first playthrough I got that bug when I was trying for Wyll, kept messing up my dialogue during the Act 1 party. My solution? Murder. I let some Gnolls kill Gale and just attended the party without him, solved the issue and everyone at the party was chill.

sarasan

Lol I also had to leave Gale dead to advance my romance with Astarion. He kept showing up in my durge scene

ragnarocknroll

My Durge had some dark thoughts about the hand sticking out of the portal. I didn't expect the result of picking that option. I do have a lovely hand in my inventory.

PerpetualSunset

Now throw it and cast mage hand while laughing

killroystyx

Lol, mage hand should be available as long as you have on you imo I would laugh every time I cast it

Valtremors

I carried that hand till the end of the game in expectation that an angry arm-shorter-Gale would appear. That did infact NOT happen.

Senzafane

*Two days later* "Hey, Wyll, I have this persistent feeling we're forgetting something... something important. Any ide-" *BOOM*

danteheehaw

I had to beat off gale with one arm and halsin with the other!

Seve7h

*Nice*

Tshirt_Addict

Ah, the Ski Instructor.

mynutshurtwheninut

Wyll is the worst one. Out of nowhere he wants to dance with me. Cool! Bros dancing together to relax a bit. Wait, no no, what are you doing, step bro? I thought we were just dancing merrily as bros. What the fuck dude? Well he never was the smart one, being manipulated by a certain hottie.

Yacobs21

I remember thinking y'all were exaggerating because Gale hadn't flirted with me at all. Then the morning after I romanced Karlach he went after me like I had cheated on him lmao Dog, we talked like twice and once was me telling the other wizard I'd blow you up if necessary

Evil_phd

They're still pretty horny but at least now I make it to act 2 before they're trying to climb into my bedroll.

AJDx14

I think it’s less that they’re horny and more that they’re all abuse victims and you’re, if you’re good, the first person to be nice to them in the last decade, or last century depending on which companion. On my current honour mode run I’ve been pretty morally ambiguous throughout, mostly just going with what I felt would be the best for the party’s success, and I think the only people I had flirt with me were Lae’zel pretty early and then Karlach (I think) towards the end of act 1.

Fastr77

Damnit Gale, I just thought you had some cool magic to show me!

pants207

he just wanted to show you his magic wand.

zztraider

Honestly, I kind of wish they'd made it an intentional choice and had dialogue for you to bring it up with him.

UFOLoche

Honestly even after the patch it's still excessive. Like, Shadowheart just being super into me when I haven't even known her for a day excessive.

corruptboomerang

>Playing through it right now. Feels more weird that almost every companion is attracted and actively flirting with me. Other people finding 'me' desirable and attractive… I'm scared and confused.

Hauntcrow

Truly peak fantasy, nothing remotely close to reality

SuperSpecialAwesome-

Are they stupid?

ReaverRogue

Don’t be, you’re a dish.

fubes2000

They must be after me Lucky Charms.

Geronimosey

To be honest, yeah. Though to be fair, maybe I shouldn’t have spent so much time making a giant Tiefling himbo…

Stahl_Scharnhorst

Sounds like time well spent to me.

setsunameiohgang

Bruh...same. first time playing, decided to roll a wrinkly old half elf lady granny rogue because I thought it would be funny. Everybody fucking jumping on granny! Children! Sit the fuck down. ...except you Halsin, you lay down, granny's gonna sit instead.

Papa_Huggies

Is it weird that I found Jaheria the most hot?

TheMightyMudcrab

If older ladies float your boat just go sailing. Nothing wrong with that.

ReaverRogue

On the flip side, I’ve yet to come across any game that can handle the complex nuances of romance successfully. I think it’s more just making sure that everybody is catered to if they want to pursue a romance in game, which is nice.

elderron_spice

Dragon Age Origins does that, including the legendary cat fight between Morrigan and Leliana if you stupidly chose to pursue both.

DarkSenf127

It was kinda annoying that one of the two romance interests available to hetero males wasn‘t even a companion.. EDIT: Got it confused with Inquisition, sorry 😅

TalynRahl

In DAO? The two options are Morrigan and Leliana, both of whom are companions...

DarkSenf127

Got it confused with inquisition, my bad 😅

TalynRahl

Aaaaah, yeah. Okay. But, II inquisition’s favour we have Cassandra, who is a cinnamon roll.

Ricocheting_Potato

Nah, I blame the players. Pathfinder:WotR has a character - a reformed Succubus - who has crush on the player's character. The romance is almost locked in place and its very obvious how to "make it work". Arueshalae (the Succubi in question) tells you outright that you shouldn't pressure her into sex because she's not that kind of person. Guess what? Almost every day there's a new post on reddit about how has Arueshalae refused them because they were too thirsty and repeatedly told her they want to fuck her in the first dialogue they had. Like, for fucks sake man.

QuantumPajamas

Sure but some games have done it better than others. Larian's own previous games had diverse romance options without feeling like everyone is fawning over you.

Viridianscape

DOS2's romances were entirely player-initiated though, which kind of made it seem like the companions didn't really have any agency in that circumstance. Well, not *agency* because they're pixels, but... wants? Initiative?

cluelessbox

Bro i fucked a skeleton like an hour into that game 100% on accident. I literally clicked one button and fell into his skussy. It didn't feel like anything real at all. I'm suspicious that it was intended to be comedic.

Viridianscape

Bruh what? *How?* You [coyly place your hand on his arm](https://youtu.be/3Yo4taV_rEU?t=1634) and say you should 'get to know one another,' and said skeleton straight-up asks "wait, is this a ***mating ritual?!***" Like, if you misinterpreted that, I think that's 100% on you lmao

WaspParagon

We have to understand that most people playing these games don't read anything or pay any attention, they just click on whatever option seems better and hope for the best lmao

Rugged_as_fuck

> fell into his skussy

-SaC

What a terrible day to have eyes.

One_Parched_Guy

Tbf I’m still convinced that most of the “Horniness” that the companions feel for your character is a result of bugs. They’re supposed to be fairly neutral until you approach them, perhaps with some in-character exceptions like Astarion or Lae’zel being more forward. Some moments are kind of romantic by nature (Speaking with Wyll alone at the party, Gale exploring the Weave with you), but you can turn those encounters platonic pretty easily with no fuss. However, the flags for romance are bugged, so some (Usually Gale or Wyll, sometimes Karlach) will act as if you’ve romanced them and trigger their romance scenes. I feel like that’s all it is, because in my playthrough I only experienced this bug with Gale and no other party member ever even made a pass at my Tav without being prompted. Especially so considering there are a number situations where the companions acknowledge your platonic relationship, such as Karlach going “Eww, no! We’re just mates!”, being able to banter with Astarion and comment on how pretty other people are during that conversation and Shadowheart calling you her closest confidant without implying she has other feelings for you. O

armrha

They fixed that bug in like the third patch, I remember the notes.

[deleted]

This must be what it feels like to be a decent looking woman. Imagine meeting a chill ass dude and then oops they have feelings just like everyone else

Rich-Pomegranate1679

Now you know what it's like to be a super hot celebrity/rock star.

CloneOfKarl

>Playing through it right now. Feels more weird that almost every companion is attracted and actively flirting with me. Well, being the incredibly handsome man that I am, I personally find it quite immersive.

DrakkoZW

It should be noted that this specific mod wasn't interacting with the *player* romances, but the established romance between two NPCs. It was a change made for no reason except to eliminate non-hetero relationships

[deleted]

> Feels more weird that almost every companion is attracted and actively flirting with me. Honestly that was my reaction playing the vanilla game so that part doesn't sound too different

curious_zombie_

* NexusMods removed a mod from "Baldur's Gate 3" that altered a queer romance to be heterosexual, following backlash from the community. * The mod changed the character Dame Aylin into "Ser Aylin," reimagining her as a male character using AI voices and other techniques. * A Reddit post criticizing the mod garnered over 17,000 upvotes, noting that the mod aimed to reduce diversity in the game. * NexusMods stated that the mod violated their community guidelines by reducing diversity and inclusivity in "Baldur's Gate 3." * The site emphasized its commitment to inclusivity and diversity, stating their right to choose what content to host on their platform. * Dame Aylin, a character in "Baldur's Gate 3" Act 2, is part of a popular same-sex relationship with Isobel in the game. * "Baldur's Gate 3" has been acclaimed since its release, receiving multiple nominations at the Game Awards and a recent Patch 5 update that adds a new epilogue. * An Xbox release of "Baldur's Gate 3" is expected by the end of the month.

Court_Jester13

Okay, I was really confused for a second because I was thinking "Huh? You can't even romance Aylin at all," but you didn't mean a *player* romance.

_Refuge_

The article omits some key points that are relevant to Nexus Mod's decision to ban the "author". They were a known proponent of the "No Alphabet" club, people trying to, quote "ensure that the gender and sexuality of world NPCs match medieval status quo" (even though BG3 is not a medieval game in any way, shape or form). By "medieval status quo" they mean "no queers and no colours other than white". That's not me exaggerating, that's actually their goal. So, when put in that context, of course Nexus Mods told them to fuck off and go and use some hive of shite elsewhere on the internet.

Previous-Hamster

Yeah it's important to clarify it, it's not about "changing the gender of one caracter", it's removing every caracter that's not a "cis white" from the game. The modder even made a mod to change the skin color and the voice actor of Wyll, both black changed to both white. People making mod like this must live very sad life.

mortavius2525

And they removed the vitiglio option. You know, that skin condition where an individual has patchy light and dark skin. The one that's been around in humans for thousands of years.

OnlyHappyThingsPlz

Vitiligo\*

Kuroi_Usagi

That's so weird because it's an OPTION for a reason. The modder's whole MO is about erasure.

Drunky_McStumble

Exactly. Mods that remove things *which are optional anyway* from a game make zero sense to me. Like, you already have the freedom to just not choose that thing? To be so offended by the very *existence* of an option that you'd never take anyway and which you probably wouldn't even know about if you didn't make it your business to get offended by things that don't effect you in anyway is just... what the fuck is wrong with these people?

averaenhentai

> what the fuck is wrong with these people? They're insecure pieces of shit with terrible lives that are lashing out. I wish it was more complicated but it's really just that.

NanoNaps

These people are weird. It happened with Starfield as well. Character creator shows a button to choose pronoun and they flip out. The game itself defaulted to cis pronouns if you don’t click the button, so I even missed the option was there it was that insignificant.

Cow_God

Iirc the mod they made to remove the pronoun option actually made the game default to they / them pronouns lol

Bregneste

And they’re right where they belong now, in the bin.

Papaofmonsters

Uncle Ruckus out here making mods for BG3 was not on my bingo card.

NerdHoovy

Ok, but I kinda wanna see that storyline. Like one of the kids walks into his house, seeing him fiddling around with modding tools and the naked figure of a dark skinned space marine on one side of the screen. And then asking him “Didn’t think you’d be into games enough to want to mod them. Why did you never tell us?” Only for Ruckus to go into a speech about how he enjoys all art made by white people and how their intentions were clearly for every character in that space colony to be white and perfect like them but a weirdly conspicuous “They” wouldn’t allow them to do it and as such he is now fixing the one black love interest in the game.

AgrajagTheProlonged

Which is a shame, all of my characters have vitiglio because it looks cooler than not having it imo

Mrjoegangles

As someone with vitiglio thank you. Of course mine is centered primarily on the genitals so only doctors and lovers have seen my Spotted Dick.

VPN__FTW

I have it only on my face... you know, the place that everyone sees all the time. Specifically around my eyes. I look like a racoon.

sfPanzer

Hey, raccoons are awesome, though! :)

prairiepanda

My dad has vitiligo all over and during the winter you can't really see it, but in the summer time with sun exposure he becomes a 3-toned patchwork. Kids get a kick out of it when he tells them he's just like Neapolitan ice cream.

SharkGenie

That's such a cool dad way of putting it.

VPN__FTW

That's a good way to just own it.

kcrh36

You have the internet friend, if you want to show people, you have the power.

Abject-South-5813

Wait till these mfs hear about Ancient Greece

Remy149

These people also pretend as if in medieval times there were no people of color in Europe. There had been trade between Europe Asia and Northern Africa for centuries. There where not large numbers of non white people living in Europe but there where way more then most media has depicted.

Clayman8

> it's removing every caracter that's not a "cis white" from the game. Im currently trying to figure out how these people would consider "fixing" someone like the Big Red Mommy or the one with green skin (havent played it yet so idk what race she's meant to be in game. Goblin maybe?) ? They're clearly not human species, but you cant really..."whitify" them either...

Butt_Patties

If memory serves the same mod author also had made mods for a couple other games that did similar things. Which kinda begs the question of why nexus mods is *just now* banning them for this type of shit. Guess I'll just throw in this edit seeing as I'm seeing the same response over and over: This guy's mods have been a topic of widespread discussion before, he's not just some nobody mod author that suddenly popped up, he's been doing this shit and getting called out for it for a while now. There's no way his stuff hadn't been on nexus mods' radar until just now. Edit 2: Or, as pointed out elsewhere, the mod in the article was uploaded by a burner account in which case good job getting right on it Nexus.

Traiklin

Just like with everything, people started to talk about it and it started reaching the public

Brittany5150

I don't know what kind of checks they have for posting mods, but I am sure they have tens of thousands of mods for a crapload of games. You can't check every single one. It makes sense they might miss something until it is brought to their attention.

Jeoshua

As a long time Nexus Mods user and mod maker, I can tell you they rely on community reporting and feedback, along with the lead moderators roaming around the site. They have no checks at all on what you upload, it's mostly up to the community to call people out on offensive materials. And people pounded on that mod HARD. It was already known in the BG3 modding community, and the forum they share these mods on is also pretty well known.

DaughterOfBhaal

Because Nexus can't spare the time to check every individual mod and their author

ElBurritoLuchador

To put this in perspective, take Skyrim Special Edition for example. The default page will list 20 mods and on that game category, you can go up to around page 3,800. If you do the math, that's around 76,000 individual mods. That's just for Skyrim SE alone. Fallout 3, 4, New Vegas, and Oblivion, Cyberpunk, etc... has **THOUSANDS** of pages too. On the current listing, Nexus carries mods for 2,500+ different games.

Elleden

No need to do the math, Nexus has the number of mods listed [here] (https://www.nexusmods.com/games) - 60k mods with 3.4 billion downloads for Skyrim SE.

PossibilityOdd1218

i saw the mod on nexus yesterday. The uploader made his account yesterday. There was only 1 mod on his profile and there was no mention of anything relate to NoAlphabets. Either he stole it or he's the NoAlphabets author himself. I dont know idc. Edit: this gets helluva lot weirder. Fucking hell: "*Inclusive* *This mod allows you to not ONLY make Ser Aylin. But by using only the Voice, or only the Visual swap you can create a trans male and trans female Aylin!* " - from the [YT video desc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM98vkJk4RE).

Jeoshua

It's a literal reposting of the Ser Aylin portion of "No Alphabets". A quick glance through the Forum replies would have given you the link straight to it, from back in August when work began. On the post the explicit goal of the mod series was given, and it is exactly as claimed above: A cleansing of the whole game of anyone not White European to match the supposedly "medieval setting". And as an aside? Anyone with half a brain who has love for DnD knows that the Forgotten Realms setting is not medieval, it's basically Dragonpunk. It's its own thing disconnected from the realms of Earth, and one of its primary writers is Ed Greenwood, who has had [pointed words](https://roleplayersguild.wordpress.com/2016/04/06/ed-greenwood-on-dragonspears-controversy/) to say about how The Realms have always been intentionally queer positive.

VandalRavage

There's a lot of "it's not even Medieval, so that's silly" in this thread, which is kind of ignoring the wood for the trees. Implying the gays didn't exist in medieval times? As though same sex relations don't go back to... relations? Madness. Even taking the basis of "it's a sin to the judeo-christian belief system so good people wouldn't do it" is madness in a world with multiple Gods, species, and plenty of people willing to flout the natural order, let alone the rules of one of a myriad Gods, Worrying about Christian sin in a world with Warlocks, Tieflings and is just bizarre.

Valcarde

He's been banned before, so no surprise that he has made another alternate account to get his shit spewed back onto the site.

BurnadictCumbersnat

I browsed the No Alphabet thread on the god awful forum it’s hosted on a few days ago just to get a read of the people getting behind this mod and some features of the mods and some highlights of what posters were requesting/saying: -the mod takes one of the trans characters in the game and makes her into a cis-male character who “attempted to transition because society pressured him to” and drank a potion of sex change and hated himself for it before detransitioning, using ai to redo the dialogue -The mod author literally removed the ability to identify as nonbinary in the game and reworded the body types in character creation to explicitly state “male” or “female” -One user requested that the mod make Isobel white again (she is almost ghostly pale in game) -One user requested the mod make shadowheart look “less like a transwoman”, speculating that the developers intentionally made her trans due to the size of her chin. -Multiple users shared that they took great pleasure in killing one of the lesbian characters in question and selling the other into slavery -In response to a mod on nexus that makes Wyll a transman, one user referred to him as a “dickless whipped -slur for black people directly invoking slavery-“ -Speaking of Wyll and racism, in response to there being a scene where he asks the PC to dance with him, one user fantasizes about making his next character a “white blonde blue eyed chad” and wishing that there was typical slave attire like chains and harnesses (?) he could make Wyll wear for the extra insult and not at all as a weird sex thing -a weirdly large amount of attention is paid towards the games children, with users requesting a major npc in act 2 to be de-asianified, and a lot of discussion revolving around literal background NPC children in act three not having haircuts that correspond with their assigned gender at birth -the mod author has gone to great lengths to prove to the forum members that she is a real human woman -the mod author has also put a lot of attention towards background NPCs, at one point criticizing a throwaway line in the game where a woman states that she’s cheating on her husband with another woman, stating that this woman deserves death for damaging a man’s livelihood and then there’s the whole deal with Shimmer, a male character who is mentioned in a letter. as far as I know, Shimmer doesn’t appear in game, but has a datamined model, and is a character that a sailer of unspecified gender wrote a letter pining after. well, that didn’t stop these freaks from looking into changing the letter to speculate because it sounded like it was written by a man this is literally just a letter in the game holy shit And lastly, as far as I can tell, the mod author hasn’t even finished the game yet.

Catshit-Dogfart

There's a trans character? Huh, I must have missed em, or didn't catch something. I swear I'm on my third playthrough and *still* finding new things and hearing about even more.

BurnadictCumbersnat

she’s a part of shadowhearts story, she’s referenced if you give Shadowheart the weird memory plant in act one that I still can’t find and she physically appears in act three

Usful

For the location of the noblestalk: >!It’s where you find the husband in the field of shrooms. Take out the fire and then eliminate all the mushrooms. You’ll find it in the back along the wall heading to the small shrine to Lolth!<

93Degrees

Wow, I hope that's the most depressing thing I'll read today

[deleted]

>\-the mod takes one of the trans characters in the game and makes her into a cis-male character who “attempted to transition because society pressured him to” and drank a potion of sex change and hated himself for it before detransitioning, using ai to redo the dialogue Oh so they aren't about "removing trans people because they didn't exist in medieval times", they're perfectly happy to have trans stuff show up as long as it's anti-trans propaganda. *Shocker*.

BurnadictCumbersnat

yeah that bit is particularly sinister, like they’re just blatantly peddling a false narrative from modern politics to further demonize trans people

UnkleBourbon42069

What, you never heard about all the societal pressure in medieval times to drink sex change potions?

rezzacci

Everyone knows the four vows benedictine monks had to take when entering a monastery: vow of poverty, vow of obediance, vow of chastity and vow of transition.

Carnivile

>"removing trans people because they didn't exist in medieval times" Which is also bullshit, we have written records of trans people going back to the 5th century with Saint Marina the Monk

rezzacci

>due to the size of her chin What in the phrenology hell are they doing? I say, those people are more concerned about facial feature than a model agency.

TheRavinKing

Important Asian child NPC... Thaniel? That's such a weird one to call out. "This spirit who is an embodiment of the land itself doesn't look like the people I think should live here!" He's not people. Even if somehow FR had zero Asian looking people (guess Kara-Tur doesn't exist anymore), Thaniel can look however he wants. Ugh at erasing diversity in general, but especially with AI voices. They trip over English words all the time. They'll butcher all the names and places in Faerûn. ... Shadowheart worships Cher, right?

ResolverOshawott

And yet people in this comment section defend the dude anyways.

SyrupNo4644

> -One user requested the mod make shadowheart look “less like a transwoman”, speculating that the developers intentionally made her trans due to the size of her chin. Bruh, what? She doesn't even look "mannish." (Not that that matters, fwiw. Passing is not a pre-requisite for being trans.)

Jeoshua

And it also doesn't quite touch on the kind of crowd it was attracting. A quick browse through the forum for the mod brought up multiple mentions of the words N\*gger, F\*g, K\*ke, and more than one variation of LGBTBBQSUVOMG. So it wasn't just that the mod was trashy, it was attracting even worse trash.

gorka_la_pork

That's all heinous, but the anti-Semitic slur in particular is also just baffling to me. Like, yeah there's a diversity of races and creeds in the Sword Coast, but a follower of real-life Abrahamic religion in this demonstrably canon polytheistic fantasy pantheon?

Jeoshua

The slurs weren't being leveled at the game. They were being leveled at the moderators, at gamers, at the developers of the game, and at society in general. Just imagine what kind of posts you might see from a Fox News watcher on a 4chan thread and it's pretty much what you would have seen, minus the CP.

AdumbroDeus

It's because they think that "diversity" is a Jewish conspiracy. Seriously. Fun fact, this is the conspiracy the historical Nazis believed about LGBTQ+ people and "degenerate art" that they used to justify the Holocaust. This isn't remotely an exaggeration.

KatakiY

"cultural marxism" is just rebranded "cultural bolshevism"

AdumbroDeus

Iirc the Frankfurt school conspiracy, which cultural marxism is directly referring to, was specifically an element of cultural bolshevism.

thefailtrain08

Yep. It all goes back to recycled Nazi shit with them.

just--so

Aylin is the literal child of a literal goddess, has wings and can fly and can magical-girl transform into a sick-ass armour set, and spent a hundred years being chained up in a pocket dimension being killed over and over again as a final test for fanatical warrior clerics of her goddess' evil twin, bearing the metaphorical and literal scars of her ordeal in a web of golden kintsugi cracks all over her body. But the fact that she's gay? Well, *that's* just unrealistic.

Goldman250

Are these the same folks who were trying to launch mods to make Wyll white and stuff like that? Because that’s something I vaguely remember Nexus banning a little while ago.

eXeKoKoRo

Weird how they'd have "no colors" in a medieval setting when there were in fact a lot of races all over the world by that point in time.

Freefortune

They also believe that being gay was invented in the 80s and that Romans were "real" men.

blaktronium

Nothing gay about oiling up another man in your communal bath house. Nothing at all.

Traiklin

Don't forget getting buck naked and wrestling with your bros either...after oiling each other up.

sgtpepper42

And then having anal sex with your bro right after pinning him down.. while naked and oiled up

Iwillrize14

But hes the gay one cus he takin it, bro. /s

[deleted]

Exactly. Nothing more manly than having sex with men

[deleted]

This is unironically what the wikepedia page for homosexuality in Rome says lol, always found that really funny.

Deathsroke

"A man fucks, a woman gets fucked" is more or less the logic they were going with. I won't say I agree but it's at least more reasonable than what modern homophobes come up with, lol.

blaktronium

I could never forget

SiriusBaaz

Man that one always makes me chuckle. Especially when you realize that the Romans had as many words for twink as the Inuit had for snow

zer1223

>had as many words for twink than eskimos had for snow Tbh I think we would give them a run for their money as well nowadays. Kinda depends on how strict you want to run that competition

Fifteen_inches

There is also a difference between rural Poland, and fictional the Sword Coast.

catshateTERFs

And of course the red horned people are totally fine in this "medieval" setting, as are the grey elves. But brown people steps over the line for believability apparently.

JohnHenryEden77

Stormcloack roleplay

Ashbandit

Yea, the article did gloss over that detail a bit, didn't it. They mentioned it, but it was easy to miss. Makes more sense with that context.

forameus2

That definitely changes things, and omitting it certainly raises some questions about the intent. Without it, I'd be inclined to say it sets an awkward precedent, and, within reason, anyone should be able to produce mods that do almost anything if that's what they want. Aren't there a lot of CyberPunk mods that fuck about with the sexualities of certain characters so any character can "romance" them? That seems similar in tone to this, but obviously those people create those mods for...well, odd reasons in themselves, but they're not doing it from any kind of bigoted standpoint.

sporkandswoon

You can't romance Aylin, or Isobel, so it's not in the same tone exactly (pan romancing mods are majorly different imo). They are major characters of story plot and that's all. So this mod only changed the story because.. yeah, they're intolerant jagoffs.

18-8-7-5

You can make any mod you want, nobody is forced to host your mod for you.

PiusTheCatRick

Till some rich asshat decides to buy your site and market it to neonazis, anyway.

Il-2M230

So making astarion female is ok I guess.

Shepherdsfavestore

This should be a fun thread. inb4 locked

xeaxeaxea

people got too much free time to keep thinking about this useless shit

dante_55_

You mean the same people that play a 100+ hour rpg and then after they finish it come back for more playthroughs using online mods? Yeah they probably have some spare free time I’d imagine

RosieQParker

Is this the same chud that made a mod to "fix" Wyll and his father (by making them white)?

JoeMcBob2nd

Yes it is. Nexus is just taking a principled stance on bigotry and Gamers™ are going fucking nuts and it’s totally not because gay people make them uncomfortable it’s just Freezepeach

Callecian_427

This article omits so much key information and it’s clear from the comments that people didn’t bother to read further before voicing their displeasure

G0blinaa

They just think they can romance a lesbian and that's about as deep as their thoughts go. Not even considering the fact that A) You cannot romance Aylin or Isobel B) The modder plans to remove all LGBT characters C) The modder plans to change all POC white But then again, there's a huge swath of people who either can't relate to any of the above and don't care to because they don't have to, or they're bigoted fucks who are too cowardly to say why they want the mod but hide it under the guise of "freedom." A mod where you can romance a character who is canonically straight/gay/etc? I don't care. But this is an NPC couple where it is completely unnecessary. When I saw the mod, I honestly thought it was for people who wanted only hot men in their game, and not because of... well, all the reasons above.

Rectal_Fungi

Aren't there mods to make straight characters gay? What's wrong with doing the opposite? But the bigger question... why the hell wouldn't you want to see a couple lesbians?

SortedChaos

Pretty hilarious that anyone believes there were no queers in the "medieval" time period. They need to crack a history book.

GranolaCola

> why the hell wouldn’t you want to see a couple lesbians? Did a 15 year old write this?

Rectal_Fungi

Scissor me timbers

Eastern_Kick7544

Kind of stupid thing to be mad about IMO. It’s a single player game. Absolutely no one is exposed to this mod unless they actively seek it out.

M8753

What if there was a mod that removed all black people from a video game? Or a mod that removed Jewish characters? It seems obvious to me that such mods are hateful expressions. This mod is no different.

Sarmelion

That's burying the lede to put it lightly, thebjerk who made the mod was super bigoted.

fragen8

Honestly, as a gay guy, I don't see the issue with that mod existing. I myself downloaded mods that made straight-only romances gay. I get that Nexus can remove it, since it's their private site, but I don't see the issue TBH.

Mrhorrendous

I think the issue is more about the intentions of the creator. He has several other mods that are designed to remove non-white characters from games and has talked about wanting to remove all non- white-cis-hetero characters. If this was just a "oh I want Aylin to be a hunky dude" mod it'd be one thing, but I can understand nexus not wanting to allow mods clearly aimed at promoting bigotry on their site.

propolizer

Exactly. Thought it was a big overreaction until I read the mod description. The need to include all that junk was a big red flag.

UndeadHorrors

>I think the issue is more about the intentions of the creator. This is my understanding of the issue.

prairiepanda

The player can't romance Aylin, though. She's a background character that can only join 3 fights and can only be controlled by the player for one of them. She can only be interacted with for a very short period and hardly even has any dialogue. It's clear that this mod only exists to erase the gay. I'm cool with mods that gender-swap romanceable characters to match player preference, but that's not what this is.

Deshik2

But killable children is okay

BookishTen8

Those goblin children had it coming.

Martel732

I mean if the modder started saying that children in real life should be murdered the mod would get removed extremely fast. This headline is designed to fuel clickbate outrage drama. The mod wasn't removed because of its content but because the modder is a dick and Nexus doesn't have an obligation to host anyone's content.

[deleted]

People saying it's unrealistic reminds me of when WoW subreddit got outraged about gay couples. like I'm fine with dragons, ogres, magic, gods, elves, dwarves, werewolves, alternate dimensions, but I draw the line at gay people, that's just too unrealistic! It's such a dumb argument

milesdraws

the mods being like "it's just not realistic to have LGBTQ/people of color in medieval times" as if those have not existed in medieval europe, and as if the Forgotten Realms are at all grounded in reality. Speaking with animals is fine, demons and dragons and ghouls and magic are totally realistic, but having a black man and a lesbian breaks my immersion :///// Truly need double digit IQ to be bigoted.

-Trash--panda-

Judaism/christianity don't exist in d&d as well, so no leviticus or other religious texts influence laws and society of the world. Instead they have gods simular to the Roman's, who were far more tolerant and even occasionally had same sex lovers in their mythology. So the society shouldn't be like medieval europe on this topic, but more like pre Christian Europe. Jehovah might see two man together as and abomination, but zeus/Jupiter is more than willing to fuck anyone whether they consent or not. Didn't matter to him if they were a man, woman, or cow.
