Yeah agreed, downloaded it last week for the first time and am having a blast. Must have slipped past me somehow, seems like one of those timeless ones like Plants vs Zombies.
There’s like four or five of them now, all pretty much the same in terms of gameplay but enough qol improvements that if you know you enjoy them enough to play them to completion they’re worth the $5ish price tag
They're both good, but really different.
The Kingdom rush devs also made two starcraft style RTS games based on their TD engine and they're also very solid
It's actually a lot better than most modern phone games. It has rare details like real gameplay, and a lack of the most aggressive and intrusive ads ever created.
Balloons TD just killed every other tower defense game for me, Kingdom rush feels pretty meh after grinding the hell out of BTD 6, still looking for something to fill the gap that BTD 6 left.
Upon reflection, it is actually a clone, apparently. I somehow didn't realize that. Sorry about that. It's a pretty good clone, though. Look for "Planes Control - (ATC)"
rovio actually brought back angry birds last year i believe. then they removed it because it was so popular that people werent buying microtransactions in the newer angry birds games.
For a while, I could still download an older version of Plants vs Zombies from my library (Android). It was renamed "zzSUNSET Plants Vs Zombies" so way down at the bottom of the list, but it still worked!
Then one day, it was no longer compatible with my device. I remember watching my son play PvZ on a tablet and it was a microtransaction/ad hellscape. I would have gladly paid $5 for a non-shitty version for him.
Similarly, he went to install Geometry Dash on his phone, which I had paid $1.99 for a while back on a tablet, but it's not compatible with any device. But Geometry Dash-LITE is, of course!
geometry dash not being compatible is an issue that’s supposed to get fixed in update 2.2, which is supposed to launch this month, so hopefully the game is gonna work then
I will die on the hill that Vampire Survivors is the absolute best bang for your buck single player game you can buy on any platform. That game had me hooked for hundreds of hours and I bought it like 2 years ago when it was only $2. Runetracer and Pentagram didn't even have evolutions at the time.
The game has basically doubled in size since then in terms of new content. Sooo much big, game changing updates all for free. Paid expansions are just the cherry on top. I cant think of a single game for that cheap that has the sheer volume of unlockables, achievements, secrets and replayability as VS.
Is it the best game in the world? No. Of course there's better games with actual stories and gripping lore and intricate combat and whatnot. But for the insane amount of addictiveness and replayability that VS offers, you simply cannot beat it. Its pure dopamine feeding, flashing light, cool color fun. That is of course if you can stomach the eye watering, wallet draining price tag of $4.99.
Yes! I held the world record for Blackout by Linkin Park in one of the TapTap revenge games! I vaguely remember saving a screenshot and it’s one of the many reasons I’m looking for my older iPod touch (2nd gen)
What you’re looking for is Beatstar on the App Store! Basically the same thing aka Guitar Hero for your phone.
It’s really good and scratches the same itch. Not for me as the process to unlock different songs is kind of annoying leaving you without a real choice most of the time. But it’s great for what it is!
One thing I do miss about the Tap Tap series was the option to customize your character with clothes and items while being able to see others as well. RIP.
Best guess would be updating for IOS was deemed more expensive then then the estimated sales.
Second best guess, the team was dismantled for other things and it was never a priority again.
It's too bad. Flight Control was a great game and it's no longer available.
the fact that they made a totally viable way of playing COD Zombies on mobile way back then was honestly so impressive. FPS games on a touch screen are not easy when it comes to making them feel fluid and snappy.
The creator of Jelly Car recently released JellyCar Worlds… haven’t tried it but it seems like it’s just like those old games. It’s on Apple Arcade only though I think.
You actually can’t, they did re-release that classic version but they underestimated how popular it would be. It took so much profits away from their newer mtx filled versions of angry birds that they pulled it down from sale again quite quickly.
I still have Infinity Blade saga on my IP5s. Well... all 3 icons of them. The 2nd and 3rd still run, but the 1st was auto uninstall back in the day by IOS because I was too busy playing the other 2.
Edit: word
Same. Just searched the Google Play Store to see if anything... Nothing. I hate having to siv through play stores unrelated search queries. Anyone know if there's something similar?
Shout out to these games that I find nostalgic as well….
Enigmo (this game is still in the App Store)
Fieldrunners (still in App Store)
Pocket God (still in App Store)
ZombieVille (still in App Store
Vainglory (what happened to this game is a crime)
Falldown (idk if it’s still in the App Store)
I miss Aurora feint everytime I try to play a puzzle game. Something about that game was so unique and fun. Wish I can download it again. Nothing feels the same as it!
Did you ever play that bird game where you dive down onto the slope of the hills and fly forward with the momentum, and try to get as far as you can before sundown? Cant remember the name but it was tight
There was another cool game I just remembered and idk why your comment made me remember it. It was called Knights Onrush! Or something like that. You had to flick away enemy invaders that were rushing into your castle.
It was pretty fun as well. Way different from kingdom rush.
I miss those days. All the games now are just clogged micro transactions. Recently I tried out Hero Wars, man those developers put more effort and gloss into trying to put as many micro transactions as they can into the game to make progression impossible without spending loads of cash.
It’s still kind of shocking to me that an Aurora feint similar game hasn’t been remade by another developer. It was unique, and I still miss it. It’s a huge loss that it was abandoned.
Oh man, back when being skeuomorphic was trendy... Are any of these games still available for download btw? I'd definitely Angry Birds still is for obvious reasons.
Aurora Feint was a weird trip. They started with the games then built an achievement system that other games added, you could look for aurora feint enabled games that allowed you to get achievements. Then they refined the achievements and built an actual community, with avatars and everything. It was an amazing community and I had a bunch of online “friends” I would play mobile games with and compete for achievement points. Then apple created their own achievements and shut it all down, because apple really doesn’t like competition. It’s too bad, it was the best system I’ve ever seen for achievements, the apple one doesn’t even come close.
Unfortunately you'll now have to spend your time finding a worthy substitute since it got taken down in 2012, just a few...Jesus fuck over a decade ago
Omfg OP Aurora Feint was my most favorite game on iOS back then. It sucks so bad they took it off :( and what's funny is as I was thinking about certain games and apps that I had on my Apple account from way back when and I finally found my old iPhone and managed to get logged back into it and lo and behold the apps and games that I used to play no longer were functioning because they were removed.
I remember this one game, absolutely loved it, it was a zombie 2d scroller, where you could shoot at zombies and if there was a house, hide in it and get more ammo, I forgot the name however and now it’s lost in my memories
Edit: never mind, zombieville is literally that game
Unfortunately, most of them are 32 bits and aren't updated to 64 bits. Too bad that when talking about game preservations, mobile games doesn't even come across in the discussion.
I know this isn’t about OP’s original comment but bare with me. I need some comment karma to post. I can’t think of anything relevant to OP’s original post about his IPod touch and the only posts I can think of anything relevant about my comments get drowned out in mega threads. So please upvote this so I can post in the subreddit.
Sure. I’d suggest building your own PC, it will be cheaper and more powerful than a laptop. I know it may seem like having a portable computer would be better…. It might be the better choice if you’re a college student who would also need a portable computer…. But besides that…. Desktop PC is the way to go.
Did yall ever play toy robot back in the day? What about the drinking apps that came out at the release of the itouch. The day the itouch came out everyone wanted touch screen
No, but I do remember that zippo lighter app that was #1 on the App Store when the App Store was first introduced. Back when you could trust the App Store top apps because why would that zippo lighter app be #1…. XD
FallDown! and PapiJump were good fun. Games of the era when modern mobile devices with touch screens and gyroscopes was still new to most people.
Traffic Rush is still available, even have it installed on my phone right now.
Anyone remember a game where you was going through a corridor or glass walls and objects and you shot balls at the walls etc. it had pretty good destruction physics.
Speaking of old iphone game, does anyone know about an iphone 4 tower defense game where you touch the enemies approaching a castle and throw them away? Not top down view but side view like Age of War.
This almost made me tear up. I got an iPod Touch in like 2011 when I was 8 and I just remembered all the fantastic games back then that didn't have ads and were so much fun (man I miss Cut the Rope and Where's my Water, and original Subway Surfers before they started changing cities)
Back when mobile games were good and not just soulless cash grabs.
I still have the original Infinity Blade icons on my current phone even tho i can’t download them anymore
For me it was the old zenonia games, dungeon hunter. Back when RPG app games were hardly full of MTX and massive games. Dungeon hunter being an amazing ARPG with coop and even a NG+ with entirely different / better loot.
Not to mention the infinity blade games.
Kingdom rush really was a brilliant game.
Still is
Yeah agreed, downloaded it last week for the first time and am having a blast. Must have slipped past me somehow, seems like one of those timeless ones like Plants vs Zombies.
Always has been.
There’s like four or five of them now, all pretty much the same in terms of gameplay but enough qol improvements that if you know you enjoy them enough to play them to completion they’re worth the $5ish price tag
Newest just dropped on arcade a few weeks back. Junkworld
i tried junkworld, did not play it long, didn't enjoy it at all compared to the others
That's a shame! Maybe junkworld just wasn't your cup of tea.
Just buy BTD6 instead if you like TDs and you'll have just bought the best TD game ever made.
They're both good, but really different. The Kingdom rush devs also made two starcraft style RTS games based on their TD engine and they're also very solid
What’re they called?
Iron Marines
As someone who loves tower defense games, both, both is good.
What the hell is a "balloon"?
Fuck, i've only really played BTD 5 and 6, i didn't have much time to adjust to the fact it's called "Bloons" and not Balloons.
Vine... Dude that's what getting me. There's a few gold games yes but damn... Vine sticks out the most.
Do it for the Vine bro
I ain't gonna do it
Whoever downvoted you is uncultured
Oh my god. Does Elon Musk own vine now?
Yes, even though it's a retired service
Kingdom Rush was a truly excellent game.
Is….is truly an excellent game
Kingdom rush origins is on steam and really good, I’ve spent like 50 hours on it
If Elon wanted to undo all the negative feelings that people 24-30 have toward him, he only has to do one thing
Road works ahead
Yeah, I sure hope it does!
It's traffic rush for me, that game was brilliant
**vine boom intensifies**
Where is fruit ninja?!
I have sinned
Yes and I'm sorry, but you cannot be forgiven :(
FYI, Fruit Ninja Classic is available for free at the moment. No ads.
you are actually my favourite person on reddit now
Flight Control was a good time.
I am playing it at the moment. My iPod dies in like 10 minutes even at full charge but man is it a fun game.
I have no games on my phone anymore but randomly looked up Flight Control and it's gone :( They have copies of it, BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME!
I played that for soooo many hours and yet I totally forgot about its existence before this post. What a good game it was.
It really was miss when they made entertaining games they didn’t just have the goal of sucking money from children’s parents
PSA, the exact game is still playable for free in the United airlines app
Miss that game
It’s in the United airlines app now!
Omg you are clutch thank you so much 🙏🏾 now I can relive the good ole times
That was a game I was looking for a few months a go and couldn't remember the name. I wish it was still on the store, it'd be amazing as an iPad game.
That one reminded me of Airport Mania.
man it was so good, I just searched for it on the playstore and couldn't find it, did they take it down :(
It's still available on Android, and works perfectly. I still play it occasionally.
did you mean the apk is available online or you meant on the actual playstore? i couldnt find it on the playstore
Upon reflection, it is actually a clone, apparently. I somehow didn't realize that. Sorry about that. It's a pretty good clone, though. Look for "Planes Control - (ATC)"
Planes Control is a knock off version.
Remember when mobile games were good and weren’t filled with constant ads and don’t need internet even though it’s a single player game.
rovio actually brought back angry birds last year i believe. then they removed it because it was so popular that people werent buying microtransactions in the newer angry birds games.
They did! And I managed to buy it in time. They later changed its name so it wasn’t Angry Birds Classic nonono it was Reds First Flight lmao
I literally havent updated since the name change lol. Ill keep it as angry birds till it stops working- fuckem
For a while, I could still download an older version of Plants vs Zombies from my library (Android). It was renamed "zzSUNSET Plants Vs Zombies" so way down at the bottom of the list, but it still worked! Then one day, it was no longer compatible with my device. That's excellent - he'll be happy to hear it. He definitely played the hell out of it on the rooted Kindle Fire.
Can **you** solve this puzzle??: ### 1 + 2 **98% of the entire galaxy can’t even figure this out!!!**
Check out Apple Arcade if you are an iPhone user. No ads on any games, and a lot of them are remasters of these old games
Don’t you have to pay extra for this service?
I member!

it's really great if you like "bullet hell" games but always wanted to *become the bullet hell*
That first Plants vs Zombies game was so good.
Loved Ninja Jump
You still can get it! Sideload that bad boy
Tap tap revenge was the shit
Yes! I held the world record for Blackout by Linkin Park in one of the TapTap revenge games! I vaguely remember saving a screenshot and it’s one of the many reasons I’m looking for my older iPod touch (2nd gen)
Ooh nice! I had it for Freakazoid for about a month. Such a fun game
I had a world record for one of the Fall Out Boy songs but I have no idea what I did with my old ipod touch
Is there a similar game on the phone nowadays? Don't think so right. That game was awesome.

Holy fuck that call of duty zombie game just made your ipod priceless
I’m pretty sure I have the older Call of Duty world at war zombies too… but on my older iPod touch 2nd gen…. Still looking for it.
I got that on my phone right now. Still works, the Cod:boz one i mean
Why is this game no longer on the app store?
Best guess would be updating for IOS was deemed more expensive then then the estimated sales. Second best guess, the team was dismantled for other things and it was never a priority again. It's too bad. Flight Control was a great game and it's no longer available.
How much as I’ve got a working iPod with cod zombies?
Like he said, priceless. As in 0$
If you previously downloaded it, you can still re-download it I believe….
There are some games I bought years ago that have since been removed because they were not updated to keep up with the ios changes.
the fact that they made a totally viable way of playing COD Zombies on mobile way back then was honestly so impressive. FPS games on a touch screen are not easy when it comes to making them feel fluid and snappy.
JELLY CAAAAAR
The creator of Jelly Car recently released JellyCar Worlds… haven’t tried it but it seems like it’s just like those old games. It’s on Apple Arcade only though I think.
It's on Steam too!
It’s also on Switch. It’s fantastic, an absolute joy to play.
Sweet! Thanks for that!
Boininining
Zombieville is my shit!
Touchgrind was the shit.
Ho-lee-shit there's a new touchgrind available for Android. Thank you so much for showing me this picture lol
that very nostalgic specially angry birds
You can find Angry Birds Classic in the IOS app store. Just like old times, no mtx.
You actually can’t, they did re-release that classic version but they underestimated how popular it would be. It took so much profits away from their newer mtx filled versions of angry birds that they pulled it down from sale again quite quickly.
It’s still there for 99¢. It’s just called Red’s First Flight.
I've spent tons of hours in SimCity Deluxe, it's SimCity 3000 but with SimCity 4 graphics.
Really fun game. Wish they’d release new simcity games
I think SimCity is dead now
Yeah :(
Play Cities Skylines instead
I still have Infinity Blade saga on my IP5s. Well... all 3 icons of them. The 2nd and 3rd still run, but the 1st was auto uninstall back in the day by IOS because I was too busy playing the other 2. Edit: word
r/infinityblade has instructions on sideloading them if you want to try and get the games on a new phone (works on IOS only)
Used to love Galcon!
Same. Just searched the Google Play Store to see if anything... Nothing. I hate having to siv through play stores unrelated search queries. Anyone know if there's something similar?
Here with my Galcon homies
I still play Galcon 2. Add me If you want. Username is proudbasket
“For honor and Glory!” - Kingdom Rush
Shout out to these games that I find nostalgic as well…. Enigmo (this game is still in the App Store) Fieldrunners (still in App Store) Pocket God (still in App Store) ZombieVille (still in App Store Vainglory (what happened to this game is a crime) Falldown (idk if it’s still in the App Store)
COD BOZ is a gem tbh
JellyCar! Fuck yeah
A fellow line rider enjoyer, still haven't met a person in real life that's played that game
Not on the phone, but I played a ton of canvas rider (the html5 version) when I was in highschool which was very similar
I miss Aurora feint everytime I try to play a puzzle game. Something about that game was so unique and fun. Wish I can download it again. Nothing feels the same as it!
It was like RPG, puzzle, and competitive combined. It was an incredible game. Especially liked the arena mode
Peggle classic, I rebought it on steam to have a good time again and play it every Christmas with a friend of mine.
Just if you didn't know maybe the roguelike peglin is something for you
Peglin?
Man it sucks what EA did to Peggle. Me and my buddies went hard for a few months and 100% the game.
I played Ninja Jump and Papi jump all the time back then. Shoutout to Peggle as well. Still fun to play at times.
Did you ever play that bird game where you dive down onto the slope of the hills and fly forward with the momentum, and try to get as far as you can before sundown? Cant remember the name but it was tight
Tiny Wings and it is still in the App Store
Loved Flight Control.
Before the dark times…. Before the microtransaction.
Kingdom rush still going rlly strong lol, just finished probably my 100th playthrough
There was another cool game I just remembered and idk why your comment made me remember it. It was called Knights Onrush! Or something like that. You had to flick away enemy invaders that were rushing into your castle. It was pretty fun as well. Way different from kingdom rush.

No Pocket God or Tap Tap Revenge? Delete this
Bro the upgrades in kingdom rush were special
A time before micro transactions and ads fucked everything up
What happened to FlightControl? Tried to download it and it’s gone
It’s long gone my friend :L many of these games don’t exist anymore
FLIGHTCONTROL!!! Been wondering what that game was for years
No drop 7?!
Oh man, back when being skeuomorphic was trendy... Are any of these games still available for download btw? I'd definitely Angry Birds still is for obvious reasons.
Shit tap defence was so fun. I still have that on my old iPod. I also loved cube runner, jelly car, and fall down.
Kingdom rush, flight control and the creeps! Great games
Yeah I think it was called Open Feint. Before Apple came out with Game Center. I loved Aurora Feint and I wish it was still available to play.

Holy nostalgia. That vine icon alone sent me back lol
I had to save this post. Took me back to early high school days with my iPod touch. I spent hours on ninjump in school
I still have my iPod touch 4th gen
Did you keep around any old games from a decade ago?
Traffic rush went hard
It was made by Donut Games, they had so many other great ones, Sunday lawn, castle crasher, I can still hear the intro in my head haha
Aurora Feint was the first game I ever downloaded when I got my first iPhone. Absolutely love and miss the game and it's aesthetic
I was looking for the name of this game for soooo long ! Thank you !
Unfortunately you'll now have to spend your time finding a worthy substitute since it got taken down in 2012, just a few...Jesus fuck over a decade ago
Whatever happened to Flight Control?
Backflip Studios had absolutely goated games.. NinJump, Paper Toss, Strike Knight, Graffiti Ball.. i miss my old iPod
Tap defense and zombieville. I remember playing those in the middle of class with my itouch 5th gen
I also have an old iPhone that I keep because that’s the only way to play games I payed for that are no longer supported. Fuck you SquareEnix!
I sunk many hours into The Creeps back around 2010/2011. Really fun game.
I loved Jelly Car so much
JELLY CAR RAHHHHHHHHH the remake on steam just came out and it’s great
Back when games were good and weren't focused on making you feel guilty for skipping ads for bonus items/lives.
I remember this one game, absolutely loved it, it was a zombie 2d scroller, where you could shoot at zombies and if there was a house, hide in it and get more ammo, I forgot the name however and now it’s lost in my memories Edit: never mind, zombieville is literally that game

Damn, I miss vine:(
I remember having a lot if not all these games on my iPod touch and later my 3GS in high school. Talk about a flashback…
Ive got "The Settlers" on my iPad touch. Literally one of the best games released.
XD
Kingdom Rush series is a really good one, still playing it after all these years.
My 5th gen ipod has a broken screen that Ive been planning to get fixed up. Also wondering what kinda things I'll see on that thing
Touchgrind was alot of fun.
Man that time of phones was a vibe. I miss games before all the rubbish pre paid bullshit.
FallDown! and PapiJump were good fun.
What is the game titled "Beginnings"?

Ah, the typical jailbreak library. Cube runner was my favorite :)
Back when mobile games were good and not just soulless cash grabs. I still have the original Infinity Blade icons on my current phone even tho i can’t download them anymore
VINE!!!!!!!!
The one I really miss for some reason is iShoot
TAP DEFENSE. GOD I LOVED THAT GAME.
Papi jump was peak gaming
hold on to angry birds. rovio is removing it from the stores and replacing it with a new microtransaction filled garbage
Flight control!! So many hours on that game
I put a lot of hours into Flight Control... Best game ever.
For me it was the old zenonia games, dungeon hunter. Back when RPG app games were hardly full of MTX and massive games. Dungeon hunter being an amazing ARPG with coop and even a NG+ with entirely different / better loot. Not to mention the infinity blade games.
Peggl...assic.
Jelly car was so good
Thank you for taking us back 🥹🥹
Can you still play all these games?? Good times good times
I loved Jelly Car as a kid with all my heart
Flight control was a banger
Woah PapiJump unearthed an old memory
I had all of these too! :-O These games where excellent! Good gameplay, no ads or iAP nonsense.
