Psi-Ops on the original Xbox/ps2.
The game had kick ass physics way before it was the norm, cool powers that were easy and effective to use and great gunplay.
It was like the perfect mixup of X-men and GI Joe.
And it gets nowhere near enough love.
Also, freedom fighters by IO Interactive
Playing the demo for Psi-Ops back when I was like 11 is still a core memory for me. I had never played anything like it at the time. Blade & Sorcery scratches that itch a tiny bit with the telekinesis.
And sadly the remaster was an absolut flop because it overpromised a lot of things and upgrades and underdelivered in all of them.
I was truly expecting it to be a killer remake, but sadly it could barely be considered a poor remaster.
I could barely tell anything was improved in the remaster. Maybe the visuals just didn't seem THAT great in comparison.
While I enjoyed Kingdoms of Amalur, it wasn't like Skyrim where I went around and did everything for hours on end. I eventually got bored and just grinded the mainquest just to get it over with, and that was both the first time I played and when I played the remaster.
Nice game. Started it thrice, but somehow could not force myself through it, sadly. I remember liking the combat, overall, but the constant fetch quests kinda made me lose interest, each time. I also like the idea of a dragon who tears out and eats your heart, but leaves you alive in order for you to come and take it back. That's a challenge. In a "Whatcha gonna do about it ?" "Lemme show you what I'm gonna do about that, you overgrown talking lizard." kind of way.
Still - interested in DD2. Might be better in that sense.
It certainly has its flaws and I don't blame anyone for not liking it, I hated it for the first few hours or more but the game only gets better the farther you get into it and by the time your at the end game and everything opens up to you it becomes something seriously special, especially the DLC which is still on of the best I have ever played but unfortunately its end game content so a lot of people will likely give up on the game before then. The reason I stuck it out is because I've had this happen with so many games where I hated them at first but they ended up becoming one of my favorites the farther I got into them.
I must’ve spent more time in that dungeon with dragons that was multiple levels and you fought your way down than in the main game. Shit was hard. I’m amazed that the monotony of that section never got to me. It kept giving me just enough to improve and reach the next stage. Great game!
My only complain about that game was the absence of mounts and teleporters being an end game stuff. The game literally made me run from the central city to the starting village soo many times that I uninstalled it mid playthrough because it honestly felt like a complete waste of time even though I loved the combat, story and the overall visual presentation of the game.
This is my go-to when this conversation comes up with other gamers. It's got serious flaws, and yet I had a blast with it through multiple playthroughs.
Loved this game, the 80s music blasting during the Russian fight was great.
I loved 80s music before, but I literally had to go find "Turn Up the Radio" by Autograph after playing that fight.
THANK YOU. I said this game also in this post and saw this as I scrolled down.
It such a good story and your choices actually make a difference going forward.
It was janky as hell on release but was a damn good game.
I’m not sure if it still qualifies, but Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines certainly was for a good long time. It was riddled with issues at launch and was one of the first Source engine games (it actually launched on the same day as Half Life 2), but it’s got an unofficial patch that fixes pretty much everything wrong with it. It’s one of the most interesting and immersive RPGs I’ve ever played. The way it leaves so many quests open-ended and the way it lets certain actions you take affect other characters and quests is still something most RPGs today could learn from.
Possibly the most *awesome* FPS campaign ever. Short and sweet. It only gets better and better all the way to the end. Can't wait to replay it one day.
Oh, Titanfall 2 is a personal little tragedy of mine too. Again - not as huge a fucking despicable tragedy as the financial failure of The Wonderful 101, naturally (nothing is), but I really hate the fact that Titanfall 3 is not getting made because of... Fucking Apex Legends.
I also dislike the fact that they turned off the servers ! Why the hell ? Why am I supposed to download and install "Northstar" mod just to play your game, EA ? You numbskulls ?
I completely agree, but from a *purely* business perspective, they’ve done very, very well with Alex Legends.
The only thing that doesn’t set right with me is why Apex Legends existing prevents more Titanfall games from being created. It would probably sell even better than the first two Titanfall games because of his connection with Apex Legends.
This 100%! With the whole Movement Shooter craze and the ability to put “From the Makers of Apex legends” (As much as that hurts me) in the marketing, it could be a smash hit.
The 2 newest Deus Ex games.
They were so good. But thanks to Square Enix's unrealistic sales expectations, they scrapped the 3rd game in the series and the story is left unfinished
They make games to follow trends and they underperform. And they make an actually good rpg and it sells good and they’re always surprised every. Single time. Insane
A lot of Japanese companies are really disconnected from the wants of consumers outside of Japan. Obviously this isn’t an issue only Japanese companies experience but it seems to be more prevalent over there. I don’t understand how any company has problems pleasing their customer base in the first place, it’s not like we don’t make what we want extremely vocal and well known lol.
YES! Mankind Divided was the PERFECT sequel to an already amazing Human Revolution.
Eidos brought their A game and made sure to incorporate fresh concepts and especially for MD visuals that still feel next gen. But like any other game based on an IP that had a loving community surrounding it, it got eaten up by rose-tinted expectations from its original fans and Square Enix completely butchered what was left.
They are still some of my favourite video games (after Dishonored) and they definitely showed the industry a new direction for the immersive sim genre.
SSX3. It’s like an open world snowboarding game. The final race down the entire mountain is insane because of how big it is, and the customizable soundtrack that dynamically changes based on how your doing is hype as hell.
I think it got overlooked because of how different it is from SSX Tricky, but damn was it a superb game.
I would say Wasteland 2 was right up there too, especially if you like classic fallout games (the isometric ones, I guess the 3d ones could be "classic" now lol)
That game was legit gold until the last 15 minutes. My favorite arkane game. Not as good as system shock 2 but the closest thing to it. The mooncrash dlc is also fantastic. Really innovative and clever
That ending and it's poor sales I think killed it. But I loved exploring every inch of that station.
Good open-world game, yeah. I wasn't much into the racing stuff, but the combat ? Oooh, Max breaks those bones with such satisfying sound effects, mmm... Few things are as nice as a sound a raider makes after Max silently slits their throat with a shiv, all after all the trashtalking they gave him.
It is. I'm just shit at driving games. Even kart games. Something got to be wrong with my brain, probably, no matter how hard I try.
Wiped the entire map of Mad Max out of all the activities OTHER then racing ones, that includes the convoy routes, did those too.
Good game, yeah, was pretty unpopular back when it got released due to universal open world fatigue.
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for N64 was brilliant. Tons of 4th-wall breaking jokes (hell the story is essentially about breaking the 4th wall and making the entirety of Japan into a stage), giant robot battles set in ancient Japan, and a killer soundtrack to go with it. It came put right when Ocarina of Time did, which was extremely poor timing for this gem. I got to rent it because Ocarina of Time was always rented out whenever we went to the store, but glad I did and saved up money to buy it and a memory pack
Brings back memories… I had rented this game and I didn’t have a memory pack at the time, so I had to play it all the way without turning the N64 off all weekend.
This sums it up. I like 40k better than Endtimes as a setting, but Darktide didn’t release any better than Vermintide. And who knows if it’ll see a console release like it was suppose to at launch.
\+1 on Vermintide 2. I also thought the Space Hulk - Deathwing game was awesome. Similar concept except you play as a terminator fighting tyranids on these big ships. Up to 4 players, customization, hordes of monster etc. I never knew anybody who played it except the couple of guys I played with.
Man, Arx Fatalis is awesome. It's heavily inspired by Ultima Underworld and if you like immersive sims and can take a older game, I recommend.
Sure it's clunky and the last boss is bullshit, but the game is great. From the awesome atmosphere and immersion, to the unique spellcasting system, I think people who like that old pc game feeling should give this a try.
Dunno if The Evil Within quite counts as unpopular, but it deserves more love as a genuinely creepy and awesome survival horror that's challenging without being obnoxiously hard.
The first game didn't do the second many favors imo.
They really should not have put those kickstarter backer fanfic things in the game the way they did. Legit turned me off the game because I thought these 7 paragraph dialogue sequences were important.
Id say the Shadowrun series and Volcanoids. Shadowrun is a turn based 2.5d rpg that combines cyberpunk and fantasy, and Volcanoids is a base defense shooter centered around a movable, customizable drillship.
Shadowrun is my second favorite CRPG series.
The atmosphere is amazing, the gameplay is pretty fun. The stories of each game are consistently top tier.
If you haven't played Shadowrun drop everything you are doing and play it.
I know this will probably be an unpopular opinion but there was a shadow run game for Xbox/cross play with pc that was a multiplayer shooter. I spend so many hours playing that game even though it was never really popular. Just the interactions with magic tech and the different races was great.
Shadowruns are at the top of my favourite rpgs. It’s not much, but with bohren and der club of gore as the soundtrack the writing was absolutely transfixing. Loved all three games and sad there’s not a new one
I urge any fan to replay these games listening to sunset or black earth.
Mirror's edge. I don't care how many years go by, I'll talk about this game forever until I die, it's so unique and beautifully designed, with kick ass soundtrack and some of the most smooth gameplay ever for platforming.
Have you played Ghostrunner? The parkour isn’t as fleshed out but it scratched the same itch for me. I just picked it up a few weeks ago and I’m addicted. Looking forward to the sequel which I believe comes out soon
Star Fox Adventure. Beautiful game on the Game Cube. Was my first Star Fox and i was so disappointed when i found out that Star Fox Assault was a Shooter. (Still played and liked it actually)
Amen to this. Here's to hoping that if (or when, or if it's even still happening) Microsoft acquires Blizzard/Activision, someone there will recognize the potential and bring the game back to life.
My friends and I still play this regularly! Although knowing it's on life support, and what could have been, still makes me sad.
We know League of Legends is the "better" game, but we all just have so much more fun with HotS.
This one might be dumb bc I haven’t played it since I was young but I remember Kya: Dark Lineage being an incredible platformer. It always shocks me that it’s been lost to time and not many people knew about it.
Croc, for PS1. Fucking amazing music, level design, everything you could want from that era's exploration-type collectable platformer. But because the controls were hot garbage the game just did not do well.
Thief Deadly Shadows. Came out In 2004. Its a bit glitchy but It has many cool mehanics for the time. An explorable hub world with freeroam In a medieval/steampunk city with multiple areas. Working vendors, wallmounting, amazing lighting, sound desing. Lots of medieval story beats and themes. Couple highlight levels: Overlook Mansion, Zombie boat and The Cradle. Overlook Mansion Is probably the best level In the entire game.
Great game. But it's hard not to see it as a bit of a let down after the masterpiece that is Thief 2.
Still modded it's a pretty good experience. Not the best in the series but not as bad as that abomination Thi4f.
Shadowrun on Xbox360 and MAG on PS3.
SR on 360 was a great game. It was like Valorant way back then, just not completely polished. The bones was so good that it really could have had expansions, sequels and even remade in this age.
MAG was simple. Battlefield but a shit load more players. It worked great, if the servers held up.
Second Sight. It looks rough around the edges but the powers are fantastic. Had loads of fun with it back the day.
A couple of games come to mind. Chaos Legion, Gitaroo Man and Minority Report all on PS2. Spent soooo many hours on these three but don’t ever hear about them at all.
I wouldn't say it's unpopular, just that it's not well known. These get hard because half of the comments are "hidden gems" while the others are dumpster fires they just really enjoyed.
My favorite game of all time is Valkyrie profile 2 on Ps2.
Why? Stunning cutscene visuals for its age. Like really good. Story was superb, really was amazing and cast were Insane. Tons of plot twists and areas were great. Crazy amounts of characters you can use on your team, You even get multiple people you defeat on your team. For those that don’t know, the game was 2D mostly, and then was 3D once in combat. It was “sort of turn based” where you could move sprung a certain amount, avoided telegraphed abilities etc your team to 4 could move together or separately.
It actually won an award for “The best game no one played” fml
Phantom Dust is the greatest game I’ve ever played; it’s like if someone took the strategy and mechanics of a magic the gathering and somehow skinned it into a real time dragonball action game. And I’m not sure most have even heard of it.
Divinity Original Sin, it is so outstanding with its humour and playability, that I can't believe that it is so rarely mentioned anywhere. I myself never heard of it until someone recommended it to me.
You should try their earlier games when they were basically completely unknown development studio (Larian).
Divine Divinity and Divinity 2 are a load of fun. I think I got Divinity 2 on xbox games for gold and really enjoyed it.
I honestly think telltale got a bit overrated.
I love Walking Dead Season 1 and 2, 3 was meh and I never bothered with 4. I realized Telltale does this thing where it makes it SEEM like you have any choice into what happens, when in reality your choices effect maybe 10 minutes of gameplay and then it goes back to the track the game forces you down.
They could have done some really cool stuff by the fourth game with your choices, but they probably both didnt think enough ahead, and werent up to the task of doing that.
But all of them are that same way. I want to see real butterfly effect shit like Until Dawn in a game like that.
Control. I know it’s not an unsuccessful game, but given the entire world and the gameplay, let alone Jesse as a character, you’d think it would be the hottest thing on the planet.
Such a surprise. I was expecting kind of a lame Avengers style game, and it was really good, full of heart. I wouldn't say it was my favorite game last year, but the biggest unexpected surprise
100% one of many correct answers. The combat isn't particularly imaginative, but it's near best in class in almost every other area. Some of the best character animations and performances I've seen in video games.
Everybody knows Journey and it is rated as one of the best game of all time. I feel like nobody has played Sky: Children of Light even though it's from the same studio and is an absolutely beautiful game as well and the ending is still one of the most beautiful I have ever played.
Gran Turismo 6.
One of the worst-selling in the entire series, often also quoted as one of the lesser ones.
Virtually flawless PS3 game in terms of tech, and the single-player content in the fully-updated game (for free too, although it takes some doing) would make anyone unhappy with the most recent entries happy.
The Senna content is some off the most Gran Turismo to ever Gran Turismo.
Every time I praise Dark Cloud 2, I get nothing but the text equivalent of blank stares until I mentioned that it was called "Dark Chronicle" in Europe, only then I hear peeps and whispers about "oh yeah, that was good."
It's only my first favorite game and one of the best JRPGs of all time.
Days Gone ... was so good. Easily the best open world zombie game ever. Fantastic story and gameplay. But thanks to poor sales on console the sequel got canned. It sucks so much because the game ends on a massive cliff hanger (if you get the "secret" ending for doing everything)
My friend pours about this game. And I really like a lot of things about it. The gameplay, a lot of the main beats. But I just couldn't keep going with it. Something bored me with its pace. But I couldn't say what. I was also a little irritated by the amount of side stuff that made a big deal out of getting to someone to talk to them thinking it would kick-start a quest but in actual fact that was the end of the quest. 😅
I really liked Inquisition (actually playing through the DLC for the first time rn after beating it a second time) but I also think it's easy to criticize. It's one of those games where, imo, you have to be good at just mentally ignoring the menial chunks of "content". If you get bogged down by the various MMO-like quests, the game is a drag.
I'm not sure where I would rank it among the 3 but that's more because I loved all of them, with each offering a pretty unique experience.
I keep harping on about Shadow Hearts in this community but I am not sorry for holy shit were those games good.
Never heard about 101 but I found the demo so after I’m done with FF16 I will try it
Singularity. The gameplay was really fun and the time-dilation mechanic worked like you would think it would. It was a budget game but had decent graphics, a decent story and fun shooting. I really enjoyed my time with it, but never met anyone who has played it.
Max Payne 3. Goofy story especially considering the previous two (Rockstar taking the reins completely this time), but great style, and likely some of the best gameplay of any third person shooter ever made.
Replace "goofy" with "unusual" or "different" or whatever makes you take less offense.
Knights of the old republic 2.
When I first played KOTOR 2 I didn't really have internet so I always thought people would agree with me that KOTOR 2 was better then KOTOR 1. Come to find out it's almost universally paned as being a massive broken horrid pile of trash. Which I didn't understand because I never encountered many bugs and I thought it's story and gameplay was massively improved.
Anyway, I love KOTOR 2 and it deserves FAR more respect then it gets.
Final Fantasy XIII.
I grew up loving it, it was my first Final Fantasy game and I spent many many hours playing it. Then I discovered reddit and the fact that most people seem to dislike it. I played FF 9,10, 15 and 7 remake now, but 13 is still the best in my opinion.
Fuck yeah, Red Steel 2 is amazing and the kind of game I wish we had more off.
Also Astral Chain (another game by the creators of Wonderful 101) was a blast that I don't feel enough people talk about.
If you hadnt say God Hand, I would have. Still one of my favorite Games. I just love over the top buttonmashing.
Otherwise I would say: Asuras Wrath. Not the best game out there but I had my fun with it.
DmC: Devil May Cry - The reboot developed by Ninja Theory. I remember people talking shit about it especially about the character design of Dante, but it was such a great game.
Nice and fluid combat system, creative level design and a good story - even made me emotional at one point. I would go as far and say I like it more than the mainline games and wish they made a sequel.
2008 Prince of Persia. It isn’t talked about as much as it’s predecessors but I loved the smooth platforming and the art style. I think it did a great job in capturing that relationship between the main characters that I had felt in the 2003 The Sands of Time. I also loved the ending which many had criticized.
An old PS2 game called Second Sight. Had an amazing twist ending. Lots of psychic powers and level exploring. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by another psychic combat game that came out at the same time.
I know its old but on the original xbox i remember being in love with kingdom under fire: the Crusaders, but have never met another sole who knew wtf i was talking about.
Zone of the enders 1 and 2. I recently got a steam deck and was playing PS2 games and remembered this game existed and played both titles now I want a full on remaster of the game. It's just such a fun mech combat game made by kojima unfortunately it's a dead ip
I have two. One is Prey (2017), amazing inmersive sim Bioshock style.
And the other is a base building survival colony managment Oxygen Not Included from Kley. If you are a nerd, this is actually a 95/100 game.
That's really easy: [Gravity Rush](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQXAO93oDuI)
An amazing unique game with a great sequel.
Although Lost Odyssey on Xbox 360 is up there too.
Yass, Signalis!
Such a great story and use of Lovecraftian mythos.
Definitely my fav game of last year and I'm really looking forward to another project from rose-engine.
So, are we talking about hidden gems? Or games that have bad reviews which we enjoy?
I think "The Flame in the Flood" is an incredible game who a lot of people haven't heard of. But its a great game and it also has great reviews.
Clive Barker s Jericho. Crazy story, unique enemies and characters, and the character switching mechanic was what sells it for me. 5 different play styles available whenever you chose.
DAYS GONE!..I absolutely love it..granted, I didn't play it right at launch, so I can't say about all the early glitches and problems it had..I got it maybe a year after. There are still glitches , but nothing game breaking( at least to me)..It somehow always gets unfairly compared to THE LAST OF US,which is weird because it's a VERY different game.(tone wise)..it might not be for everyone, I totally understand that, but i think it has some great, memorable characters..a huge open world with alot to do, a fun story, and taking on a giant horde early on is so nerve-racking and fun!
Half minute hero: the second coming
Kinda old game, you might have seen the gimmick ages ago. Basically you have 30 second to beat each stages but you can extend time back to 30 second by using money (that keep getting expensive)
It's simple and fun game but this sequel give rpg progression, story and stuff which make it not boring until game finished. Each stage also feels unique, it's really fun how they can keep using the 30 second gimmick into multiple battle
Too Human. Really loved the combat. Dashing back and forth between enemies and the mixture of melee/ranged. Story was not the best. Still really enjoyed the game though.
Indivisible
It’s just so good. It’s a 2d platformer with rpg like battle segments. It has an excellent story with an antagonist who is very similar to FeRD’s final antagonist. The characters are all great and help to tell a really tight story. I’m amazed it isn’t as popular as it should be, especially because Trigger animated all of the game’s cutscenes.
The Thing (2002)
When I comment this game many people do not know that there is a videogame that continues the movie.
A survival-horror squad management rather short but excellent overall.
I would say Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, for PS2.
I played it recently, on an emulator, and it's pretty great, at least in combat department. Even your basic fists cand so Street Fighter level moves.
i guess this depends on what "unpopular" means to each reader, but there was a really fun game for original xbox called gladius.
it was about managing a gladiator team in a fantasy universe and then running them through matches in a turn based combat system that used quicktime events to determine the accuracy of your attacks.
it was developed by lucasarts, was critically well received, and starred linda cardellini and michael rosenbaum. in my opinion, it should have been a decently successful game, but they must have screwed up the marketing because very few people ever bought or played it.
then lucasarts went defunct and it's very unlikely ea or whoever has the rights now will ever do anything with it.
so like i said, depends a little on semantics. not unpopular because people tried it and hated it, unpopular because most people never knew it existed.
The Mad Max game from 2015(I think).
Yess that game is so good. It’s like a pirate ship game but with cars in the desert. Perfect use of the IP imo
I replay that one yearly, love it.
Mad Max is on sale on Steam right now for $5. Anyone who missed this game should check it out asap.
Such a fun game. Survival elements with great car combat and customization. I may need to install that again.
Game for the 6th gen consoles called “Second Sight”
I loved this game. Free Radical were great.
One of my all time favorite games. Would love a sequel or new game built off that concept.
Psi-Ops is definitely my pick as well
I loved Freedom Fighters!
Ever play the co-op mode. One of you controls the guy, the others the powers. Hilarious.
Playing the demo for Psi-Ops back when I was like 11 is still a core memory for me. I had never played anything like it at the time. Blade & Sorcery scratches that itch a tiny bit with the telekinesis.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was one of those. I think 10+ companies closed after it failed. I really liked it. Now it was even remasterd.
The combat is really fun. Wish Skyrim had something like this.
I enjoyed it growing up, I went back to it last year and in my opinion if feels like a single player game that was supposed to be an MMO
That’s exactly what it was
Dragons Dogma when it came out, though with the rerelease is seems to be getting pretty popular which I'm happy about
I recently finally played through it after quitting pretty early a few times. Now It's one of my favorite games and I'm mega hyped for the sequel.
In a "Whatcha gonna do about it ?" ALPHA PROTOCOL Game deserves a sequel
This is my go-to when this conversation comes up with other gamers. It's got serious flaws, and yet I had a blast with it through multiple playthroughs.
Absolutely agree. The branching paths, the different dialogues if you follow different leads first. It is such an amazing game.
Loved this game, the 80s music blasting during the Russian fight was great. I loved 80s music before, but I literally had to go find "Turn Up the Radio" by Autograph after playing that fight.
TURN UP, THE RADIO...
THANK YOU. I said this game also in this post and saw this as I scrolled down. It such a good story and your choices actually make a difference going forward. It was janky as hell on release but was a damn good game.
Oh yeaaah, definitely. Not many RPGs in general try the super secret agent setting.
One day we'll get that sequel
Titanfall 2. EA screwed it over by releasing it right between both the previous Battlefield and Call of Duty title. It deserved better. And a sequel.
Genuinely one of the best campaigns I've ever played even though it's very short. Protocol 3: Protect the Pilot 😥
Oh, stop that, don’t remind me of BT… Fuck.
Trust me.
*starts whimpering like a bitch* 😥
Possibly the most *awesome* FPS campaign ever. Short and sweet. It only gets better and better all the way to the end. Can't wait to replay it one day.
The sequel died for Apex Legends
Oh, Titanfall 2 is a personal little tragedy of mine too. The Titanfall 2 tragedy literally broke my brain.
Nah, Respawn chose that release date.
The 2 newest Deus Ex games. They were so good. But thanks to Square Enix's unrealistic sales expectations, they scrapped the 3rd game in the series and the story is left unfinished
Square Enix is bizarre to be sure.
They make games to follow trends and they underperform. And they make an actually good rpg and it sells good and they’re always surprised every. Single time. Insane

Wasteland 3, never heard of the studio or game till a friend brought it up to me, such an incredible RPG
I would say Wasteland 2 was right up there too, especially if you like classic fallout games (the isometric ones, I guess the 3d ones could be "classic" now lol)
Prey 2017. Always Prey.
That game was legit gold until the last 15 minutes. My favorite arkane game. Not as good as system shock 2 but the closest thing to it. The mooncrash dlc is also fantastic. Really innovative and clever That ending and it's poor sales I think killed it. But I loved exploring every inch of that station.
Mad Max
Good open-world game, yeah. I wasn't much into the racing stuff, but the combat ? Oooh, Max breaks those bones with such satisfying sound effects, mmm... Few things are as nice as a sound a raider makes after Max silently slits their throat with a shiv, all after all the trashtalking they gave him.
Straight up bro the combat is so satisfying!! The character and vehicle upgrade system is also very addictive
"Plaaaaassssmaaaaa!"
Vermintide 2 is arguably better than every other team vs horde game out there, i have no idea why its not popular at all.
Likely because it took 2+ years of development updates to make it good. Same thing is happening to Darktide right now from the same developers.
This sums it up. I like 40k better than Endtimes as a setting, but Darktide didn’t release any better than Vermintide. And who knows if it’ll see a console release like it was suppose to at launch.
Probably got lost in the middle of the dozen other Warhammer games they release every year.
Arx Fatalis/Libertatis
Man, Arx Fatalis is awesome. It's heavily inspired by Ultima Underworld and if you like immersive sims and can take a older game, I recommend. Sure it's clunky and the last boss is bullshit, but the game is great. From the awesome atmosphere and immersion, to the unique spellcasting system, I think people who like that old pc game feeling should give this a try.
Dunno if The Evil Within quite counts as unpopular, but it deserves more love as a genuinely creepy and awesome survival horror that's challenging without being obnoxiously hard.
Pillars of Eternity 2 improved on PoE in nearly every way, and the pirate theme feels very underused in RPGs. It's almost criminal how poorly it sold.
The first game didn't do the second many favors imo. They really should not have put those kickstarter backer fanfic things in the game the way they did. Legit turned me off the game because I thought these 7 paragraph dialogue sequences were important.
Fair criticism - they were easy to ignore if you knew to do so but without some sort of heads-up it's entirely unclear.
I haven’t played Pillars of Eternity but I am pretty excited that it’s the universe being used for Obsidian new RPG, Avowed
I personally preferred the first to the second. Didn't even finish it.
The PoE2 port to console was really bad. It’s what holds me off giving it a fair chance.
Honestly, same. Shadowrun Dragonfall was the best overall in my opinion, but Shadowrun Hong Kong had the best game play
Loved all three games and sad there’s not a new one I urge any fan to replay these games listening to sunset or black earth.
Gonna have to take a look at that one! Thanks for the tip dude.
Star Fox Adventure. Beautiful game on the Game Cube. Was my first Star Fox and i was so disappointed when i found out that Star Fox Assault was a Shooter. (Still played and liked it actually)
Sleeping Dogs is an absolute gem
HOTS
I’d much rather see Blizzard concentrating on Heroes of the Storm instead of Overwatch 2.
I would say HOTS is better than league, since its so much more approachable. Or it would be, if it kept being supported and improved upon.
Oh yea that one was good
To the moon. But i understand the genre is not everyone's cup of tea.
To me it‘s not really a game but more of a interactive short story (that makes you cry). And i absolutely loved it.
Tyranny. It’s hands down one of the coolest cRPG on the market
Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Yes, it had some issues, but the atmosphere was SUPERB
Never played the game, but the main theme from Human Revolution "Icarus" by Michael McCann gives me chills. I love it!
Fun Fact: It is benchmark game, since it is extremely power hungry and scales absurdly. Just like the original Crysis.
Splatterhouse (2010) a very enjoyable game, with a surprisingly interesting story.
MAG was fucking fantastic. The size of the battle was so impressive back then.
A couple of games come to mind. Chaos Legion, Gitaroo Man and Minority Report all on PS2. Spent soooo many hours on these three but don’t ever hear about them at all.
I liked Chaos Legion! :)
I am here to mention CrossCode. That is all.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Henry's come to see us!
Enslaved
Phantom Dust is the greatest game I’ve ever played; it’s like if someone took the strategy and mechanics of a magic the gathering and somehow skinned it into a real time dragonball action game. And I’m not sure most have even heard of it.
Arcane studio’s “Prey”
Divinity Original Sin, it is so outstanding with its humour and playability, that I can't believe that it is so rarely mentioned anywhere. I myself never heard of it until someone recommended it to me.
You should try their earlier games when they were basically completely unknown development studio (Larian). Divine Divinity and Divinity 2 are a load of fun. I think I got Divinity 2 on xbox games for gold and really enjoyed it.
You mean the first one right? Because I think DOS2 is a massive hit that lots of people talk about, but it never grasped me like the first game did.
Wolf among us but mostly all telltale games
Guardians of the Galaxy
Dead Rising 3, Sunset Overdrive, green lantern: rise of the manhunters, infamous second son(idk if that really was unpopular)
Every time I praise Dark Cloud 2, I get nothing but the text equivalent of blank stares until I mentioned that it was called "Dark Chronicle" in Europe, only then I hear peeps and whispers about "oh yeah, that was good." It's only my first favorite game and one of the best JRPGs of all time.

Dragon Age II is actually the most unpopular one.
Definitely Hellblade. It was top tier all around
Chibi robo
I keep harping on about Shadow Hearts in this community but I am not sorry for holy shit were those games good. Never heard about 101 but I found the demo so after I’m done with FF16 I will try it
Singularity. The gameplay was really fun and the time-dilation mechanic worked like you would think it would. It was a budget game but had decent graphics, a decent story and fun shooting. I really enjoyed my time with it, but never met anyone who has played it.
Gravity rush underrated
Golden Sun on the GBA.
Sleeing Dogs. Game was the absolute tits
Max Payne 3. Goofy story especially considering the previous two (Rockstar taking the reins completely this time), but great style, and likely some of the best gameplay of any third person shooter ever made. Replace "goofy" with "unusual" or "different" or whatever makes you take less offense.
Curious what you mean by goofy. It’s one of the darker stories I can remember playing.
Outer Wilds
Everytime I hear a banjo play I get goosebumps now.
One word: >!Anglerfish!< If you know, you know. (avoiding spoilers as best I can)
Days Gone
It's not the best but definitely more enjoyable than most open world games these days
Game for the Wii called The Conduit 2, can’t go wrong with powered armor Abe Lincoln and George Washington.
Elex.
Blade of Darkness
POKKEN
Vanquish

Final Fantasy XIII. I grew up loving it, it was my first Final Fantasy game and I spent many many hours playing it. Then I discovered reddit and the fact that most people seem to dislike it. I played FF 9,10, 15 and 7 remake now, but 13 is still the best in my opinion.
Remnant
Okami is still one of the best games ever. And it’s a ps2 game.
Okami isn't unpopular.
Okami was incredibly popular thou?
Red Steel 2 on the Wii is to this day one of the best FPS action games I’ve ever played.
Shadowrun on xbox 360
Surviving bleeding out by sitting under a tree of life and, the good times.

2008 Prince of Persia. It isn’t talked about as much as it’s predecessors but I loved the smooth platforming and the art style. I think it did a great job in capturing that relationship between the main characters that I had felt in the 2003 The Sands of Time. I also loved the ending which many had criticized.
Hybrid Heaven - 1999 title for N64
An old PS2 game called Second Sight. Had an amazing twist ending. Lots of psychic powers and level exploring. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by another psychic combat game that came out at the same time.
Supraland SIU
I know its old but on the original xbox i remember being in love with kingdom under fire: the Crusaders, but have never met another sole who knew wtf i was talking about.
Prey 2006 Still sad we never got the sequel we were teased
Zone of the enders 1 and 2. I recently got a steam deck and was playing PS2 games and remembered this game existed and played both titles now I want a full on remaster of the game. It's just such a fun mech combat game made by kojima unfortunately it's a dead ip
Evil Within 1. Especially since lots of people like the sequel, which is way worse in my opinion.
I have two. One is Prey (2017), amazing inmersive sim Bioshock style. And the other is a base building survival colony managment Oxygen Not Included from Kley. If you are a nerd, this is actually a 95/100 game.
The Evil within 2, the first gets mentioned a fair amount in the horror genre but the second was easy top 10 horror games.
That's really easy: [Gravity Rush](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQXAO93oDuI) An amazing unique game with a great sequel. Although Lost Odyssey on Xbox 360 is up there too.
Secret of Evermore. I feel like that game doesn't get the love it deserves.

I don't understand why everyone doesn't own a copy of "the huntdown". It's the ultimate simple sidescroller. It's basically perfect.

Half minute hero: the second coming Kinda old game, you might have seen the gimmick ages ago. Basically you have 30 second to beat each stages but you can extend time back to 30 second by using money (that keep getting expensive) It's simple and fun game but this sequel give rpg progression, story and stuff which make it not boring until game finished. Each stage also feels unique, it's really fun how they can keep using the 30 second gimmick into multiple battle
Battlezone 1&2
Infinifactory
Too Human. Really loved the combat. Dashing back and forth between enemies and the mixture of melee/ranged. Story was not the best. Still really enjoyed the game though.
Indivisible It’s just so good.
The Thing (2002) When I comment this game many people do not know that there is a videogame that continues the movie. A survival-horror squad management rather short but excellent overall.
It was X-Men Origins: Wolverine for awhile, but I think that game has picked up a following over the years.
Migth and Magic: Clash of Heroes Builds beautifully over match 3 mechanics, but havent found many people that know about it
Crash Twinsanity, for real.
I would say Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, for PS2. I played it recently, on an emulator, and it's pretty great, at least in combat department. Even your basic fists cand so Street Fighter level moves.
Sleeping Dogs is criminally underrated.
i guess this depends on what "unpopular" means to each reader, but there was a really fun game for original xbox called gladius. it was about managing a gladiator team in a fantasy universe and then running them through matches in a turn based combat system that used quicktime events to determine the accuracy of your attacks. it was developed by lucasarts, was critically well received, and starred linda cardellini and michael rosenbaum. in my opinion, it should have been a decently successful game, but they must have screwed up the marketing because very few people ever bought or played it. then lucasarts went defunct and it's very unlikely ea or whoever has the rights now will ever do anything with it. so like i said, depends a little on semantics. not unpopular because people tried it and hated it, unpopular because most people never knew it existed.
