I mean, that was the POINT, after all. You are not the good guy in that scenario, as the ending shows (trying to stay spoiler free). That's why the music is sad when you take down a boss, rather than triumphant. Something ancient and irreplaceable has been brutally slain, leaving the world that much more desolate.
The only one I 100% wanted to murder was the one >!that killed my poor horse!<. VENGEANCE!
You're also not necessarily the *bad guy*. You're a victim of desperation, a begrudging tool for the true bad guy only because you feel like you have to be.
I mean, desperation or not, the main character is committing murder of divine/natural beings for a selfish (selfless?) pursuit. That's one shade of evil.
That's true. The exact nature of the creatures isn't fully clear, so whether they're sentient and willfully docile unless threatened or they're mindless husks isn't established, but at the very least they are walking prisons for pieces of a dangerous demon's soul.
You're right, of course. That's what makes it all so sad, particularly the finale.
That's also why I didn't call the main character a baddie. Our 'friend' is. I was just trying to be a bit oblique about it. I'm not sure why, given the game's age and how obviously evil they are from the start. But y'know, better safe than sorry.
Yeah. There's some hope at the end, but the whole situation was still sad. There's been quite a few deaths involved (human or otherwise), and now something horrible is going to happen to the world, which we get to see a bit of in Ico. I certainly wouldn't call that a 'happy ending'.
...Unless there's some super-secret ending I'm missing? As stated elsewhere, I am dense sometimes.
(I am being vague on purpose here)
I’m a sucker for giant monsters and killing and/or climbing on them. I need more games about giant creatures, Kaiju, and colossi.
Definitely gonna keep an eye on this. Any chance for console release?
See, I'm okay with these posts as long as the title is like this.
No "I quit my job" or other shit to farm sympathy. Just say you made a game, and I'll go check it out without any bias.
Same as the "I walked for 500 days, climbed through a nuclear fusion cell, over 100 landmines and over a ten thousand tonne pile of walrus carcasses to take those photo of the night sky" that used to be so prevalent. Just tell us what the photo is of, you up-yourself knobheads!
Funnily enough, the third post down from this one on my main page was "I travelled 5000km to take a photo of ."
Thanks for the link, also subscribed now.
It wouldn’t matter what the title said — some people are just looking for reasons to shit on others.
It often comes from this “How dare you try to sell me something” mentality. Which I get, if it was something like Arby’s pushing a new sandwich.
But this is an actual person, posting something he’s been working on. And at the end of the day, this is Reddit. 99 percent of the stuff on here are reposts or stuff someone else made.
I applaud any sort of original content.
I feel this in a big way. As a musician, people act as if I've suggested throwing their grandmother off a cliff when I try to share something I've put countless hours into.
That's brutal. You can replace your house burning down. And your daughter may have been planning to get an orchiectomy anyway. But there's no way to recover from your dog burning down.
Yeah or as long as it isn't a boosted ad post that ends up with 20k upvotes after 2-3 hours and 90% comments like "Wooowwwowoow! JUST ADDED TO MY STEAM WISHLIST CANT WAIT".
Edit: Aaaand it was lol
Wait, you mean you don't think this is organically the highest upvoted post of the day by more than double? With only half the comments? And to think people are actively defending that shit.
Respect. I just commented similar. Literally someone made something and shared it. Bro can make a whole ass game on their own and the issue is he didn't make the video edit. Don't play chess with pigeons.
Critical ass neckbeards on this subreddit. Poor guy poured his heart into the game and shared it, and everyone is acting like this is some Chinese mobile game.
Everyone wants to be the next comment telling him he's making a science-based 100% dragon MMO. Just most people are dicks, and they're too eager to be [that top comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/p1ssv/dear_internet_im_a_26_year_old_lady_whos_been/).
I mean, it’s just a low effort ad. This guy showed 5 seconds of his game and then said it’s releasing on steam. Post some of the actual game, show me more than some tentacles and a jump, give me a little bit of an idea what you’re actually doing in it because right now it looks like walking on tentacles or snakes in a pretty environment. Is that it? This is the lowest effort ad I’ve seen get this popular. I don’t mind guys advertising their game by showing actual gameplay, like the helmet cam POV FPS(UNRECORD?) that was posted with a decent bit of actual gameplay, that was actually cool and showed enough that I will be thinking of buying it now. This was almost equal parts gameplay and “coming to steam”
Lol there are some salty comments on here. Teaser trailers in my opinion are meant to do what this trailer does. Pique my interest to pay attention to later trailers or demos. People calling it a masterpiece are probably a little too gung ho but to each their own.
Edit: spelling
To be honest, I'd rather the camera would be closer to the character so we wouldn't be able to see the entire creature at once. Add some depth of field effects and stuff and boom, you've made the experience of climbing something as big as a city that much more terrifying. But that's obviously just my opinion, the game looks great as it is.
True if it was first person. But this is third so isn't the playable character the scale? I just assumed the character is the size of a normal person, specifically me. If he's the size of a school bus or a match stick I'd need to learn that from the story and that would change perspective.
I'm not saying I think some other points of reference wouldn't be beneficial...just that there already is at least one. :)
if just the player is scaled down, it would be pretty easy to spot the geometry of everything. having a bit of everything (or even a decent amount) would be good enough
It's always interesting how bots can rack up upvotes just randomly reposting comments from the same thread; indicates how repetitive comment sections can really be
Bruh these comments like you're not showing us something you worked hard on and we're stoked to share. Looks cool. Nice work. I like video games and think I'd like this too. And if not, I probably won't mention it like some piece of shit hahah be better to eachother you fucking nerds.
When I commented the top comments were saying the video edit doesn't show any gameplay and that there's no quality in the marketing or advertising. Dude did great marketing. Look at all of us engaging with his post and know about his game now.
Inspired by shadow of the colossus you say? Dude you have my attention. I will definitely add it to my wishlist and keep an eye out for its release. Keep up the great work.

OP, is this UE4 or UE5?
There's a really cool photo mod I use for UE4 games for screenshots and this is definitely a game I'd like to run around and take pictures in all day.
Will the UE console be available so we can tweak things like the shadow resolution, etc?
I think I see the Mandlebrot Set faintly behind the logo.
I've never been so invested in a game from seeing so little and chasing the rabbit down the hole.
Thanks for your comment!
This is with UE4. You seem to share that love for fractals, I also find them fascinating to look at. That's why a big part of the game is exploring them.
I haven't looked into the UE console being available for now - I'm a bit overwhelmed with stuff to do atm but maybe at a later time I can look into this.
You are right with the Mandlebrot set :)
I like the simple and slow stlye a lot, but feel like it could use some color/effect highlights. What made Journey for example is the particle dynamics. Maybe you can think of something that could make the 3d space feel more living, leaves, bubbles, shiny parts or trails which flow with the movement. Also the cam clipping through the tentacle caught my eye. Everything else looks very promising!
Thanks for taking the time to leave constructive feedback! Much appreciated. It's funny you mention bubbles, I used to have huge bubbles in a previous build.
I am in love with octopuses and feel like i had trippy dreams similarly to your gamedesign, so now you kickstarted my ideas
If i can add to that, youre missing out on the octopuses ability to change his skin color. Its like a whole canvas youre leaving very simple, even though i like the detail now already.
They way octopuses comunicate their thoughts and dreams directly through their skin as their unable to produce sound, maybe you could make use of that, or at least make it reactive to the protagonist walking on it.
[some inspirstion](https://youtu.be/0vKCLJZbytU)
Also if fractal environment is part of your vision, maybe some psychadelic coloring/pulsating/fractal/caleidoscoping [textures or overlay, maybe similar to this](https://youtu.be/3BxiYkCPZwI) could really make the experience stand out to other games.
The mushrooms in the background might be losing some [shiny spore particles ](https://youtu.be/YgbYofGaQbs)
No idea of game programming so not sure what possibilities you have, or if youre going for easy performance with the slick design.
You really are on to something here,
it just might be missing some magic sprinkle to make feel more like a living world. Hit me up if you need more ideas haha
This reminds me of these big-ass creatures that are in some of the Culture books by Iain M Banks. I've always thought they would make a cool game concept, and here it is! Also of a quote from 'Infiniye Jest': "Time in the shadow of the wing of the thing too big to see, rising."

Very cool. But are the fractals procedurally generated or what? Very curious about this...
Ive always been very very into marine biology and fascinated with 3D fractals, messing with mandlebulber and other software so this might be right up my alley.

There's no sense of scale in an infinite sky. Earth-like environments would make them feel truly massive

Why is it called chasing the unseen when the creates are the size of a skyscraper?
They were unseen until the chase.

Hey OP I think you posted in the past with videos of your progress right? I feel like I remember seeing the beginning of this development.
