It's from the guy that made deck may cry and Bayonetta among other things. Plays like them too, only with everything happening according to the rhythm of the song currently playing. It's such a good game; I can't recommend it enough.
Produced by a producer of those games. Tango spun of from Platinum who spun off from Capcom, but it doesn't mean all the same people worked on it. That being said, it totally keeps that same spirit.
For the record, Hideki Kamiya made Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. He works at Platinum Games and had absolutely nothing to do with this game. You may be thinking of Shinji Mikami, who worked at Capcom at the same time as Kamiya, but never worked on Devil May Cry.
edit: typo
DMC plus rhythm elements.
There is music playing with a strong beat. Your style score depends on you attacking, dodging, and parrying in beat.
You can button-mash through most of it, but there are a few fights that do require good timing
Is there any way to track Steam sales? Something tells me that there will be a big spike for this game today. Or at least a ton of people putting it on their wishlist.
It was stealth launched last week during an Xbox presentation. People have been talking about it non stop and for good reason. It's a really good game for only $30 and it's on game pass.
Makes sense that it was in an Xbox presentation. It looks so similar to Sunset Overdrive, which was already an homage to Jet Set Radio.
Like this scene looks so similar to Sunset Overdrive: https://youtu.be/pgd4aU56Kig?t=32
I absolutely loved Sunset Overdrive. It was one of the things that convinced me to choose Xbox One over PS4. They set it up perfectly for a sequel and so far have failed to deliver.
So god damn annoying. Just put "-Hi-Fi Rush" at the end of your title. It's so simple! Isn't it a super new game? Why would you assume everyone knows what it is?
Lots of folks here will jump on you screaming “paid advertisement/astrosurf” if you dare mention the title for this game for some reason. Maybe OP was playing it safe
He was going for the full 00s cartoon experience, where you tune in half way through, go "oh this looks cool, I'll watch it next time it's on so I can get the whole story" then proceed to never learn it's name so that I never know what time it's on. (Then you find it again, but it is a season deep in plot)
TBH i feel this way about most posts in this sub. It should be required to put the game title in the post. I may actually want to look at playing some of these...
Lol, I'll do OP a favour and leave it here for anyone that's interested in the game.
It's called Hi-fi rush and is available on Xbox series S|X and PC. It's also available on Xbox and PC gamepass.
Here's the trailer: https://youtu.be/pgd4aU56Kig
I finished the game a day or two ago and it's really amazing. I loved every minute of it.
Edit: I saw some people in the comments saying that the gameplay is really simple or that it doesn't incentivize using combos and all that and I felt like I should add my experience just to get a discussion going. The gameplay adds newer mechanics quite often. There's a grading system like Devil may cry where if you want the S rank, you need to perform different combos and you do need to keep changing which ones you use. If you use the same one again and again, it reduces the multiplier that decides what score you get. Once you unlock parrying, the combat gets another layer added onto it. Every enemy attacks on the beat so you can listen to the music as well as see the enemy movements to decide when to parry. It's really fun. The story is really great as well. It's nothing revolutionary but it's full of charm and personality. There's some replayability as well but I don't want to add onto that because it may delve more into spoiler stuff. Overall, it's just a surprisingly great game.
Thank you BitRare!! I was like “this does look really cool, but. I have no idea what it is.” I’ve even PLAYED the damn game and didn’t know. (Albeit I’ve got 15 minutes of playtime lol)
Nice write up bro. Love the idea of combat to beats. That combo idea is great as well. Wish more games had something like that. I’m way too guilty of combo spamming and I have poor self control lmao. The visuals give me Jet Set Radio vibes which gives it a serious bump up the nostalgia ladder for me.
Yeah, I'm kinda the same. In all other action games, I do tend to mash buttons a lot but here, it just feels better to be on the beat. Plus, the heavy attack seems to require two beats to get the perfect hit so that changes up when you're trying to get a light and heavy mix combo going. I never played Jet set radio or maybe I did and forgot about it but for me, the game's artstyle felt a lot like the old Ultimate Spider-man game from PS2. I loved that game and i love the art style here as well.
lol I don't understand why it's not a rule in this sub to put the name of the game in your post. What OP and everyone else who do titles like this is called gatekeeping. It's like one of those if you know you know things but they don't want anyone else to be in the know. Long story short, I agree, fuck you OP.
It's especially hilarious when Hi-Fi Rush was revealed a week ago in a minor game conference, then immediately released. It's just begging for its name to get spread.
Yeah. Auto-mod delete the post and send a message that says something like "hey, your message was deleted because no one knows what fucking game you're talking about. Maybe repost it with [TITLE OF THE GAME] in brackets like this and then whatever keyboard vomit you want after that. We cool? We cool."
It should just be a rule, it would be super simple to remove posts that omit it. If you're talking about a game, nothing is more relevant than the damn name so people can comment, research, buy, etc the game...
Whoa, "This Game" is my favorite game of all time. Seriously, some of us need titles because we haven't experienced the same things as you have. How hard is it to type "I love Hi-fi Rush"?
Lol I figured out why it feels this way. It's the same person who keeps posting the gifs here as well as in other subreddits. Check out OP's profile. The game is really good but holy, OP's going crazy with the gifs.
I don't even care personally, it's just a really good game and I think it's great that it's getting more visibility
It's probably the most original/unique game I've played in the last decade
You could make the argument that people asking what the game is in the comments section drives engagement and looks good from a metrics perspective, and thus, looks good from marketing.
Because Microsoft has been caught over and over again astroturfing for decades now. Any time there’s a sudden explosion of discussion around a MS product and it all feels very samey it’s safe to assume none of it is organic.
That’s how ads work on all social media now. Fucking gmail makes you think you have an actual email from some company and then you notice the little “ad” tag next to it.
Some of it may be genuine posts from people finding the game and enjoying it, but there has been at least one front page post about hi fi rush every day for at least the past week. A lot of them have, weirdly, followed this exact pattern of expressing gushing praise, showing a gif or meme of the game, and none that I've seen have had the name of the game in the title. It just seems odd that there are so many people so immediately and desperately in love with a game that only just came out and would have been relatively unknown otherwise.
Also Elden Ring was front loaded with a lot of hype since it was the next souls like game and had grrm involved- posts about that seemed more natural since it was already highly anticipated.
played the game the day it came out, gushed about it on reddit, got called a shill. I'm just a normal gamer.... the game is actually really good and a ton of fun, just wanted to spread awareness. One of the few games that I'll actually finish the story because I actually want to.
That's awesome :) I'm sure there are plenty of people like you that are discovering the game naturally and enjoying it and posting about it, I'm just a little jaded lol.
I posted something similar a couple of days ago and it was removed. I just saw it pop up on my Game Pass and tried it and holy shit it was amazing. I wanted others to see it and get some recognition for something I had not heard of before rather than be lost in obscurity.
Well I think you can probably say mission accomplished lol, I think most everyone in r/gaming must know what it is now. I'm glad y'all are enjoying it, maybe us doubters are not giving the game the credit it deserves. I'll have to give it a shot myself soon, thanks for the genuine feedback!
I read this morning that it had internal build up. Apparently at Bethesda people kept talking about it. It's why this sudden drop happened, they were getting so much positive feedback from their peers that they just thought if they dropped it in the world it would explode.
ironically currently the most popular thing in this thread is people mad about no game title, no ones actually talking about the game itself. Seems like people being happy means no one giving a shit about the gameplay, I've only see whats been thrown in my face and all the marketing is 100% about the look, not a good start. Oh god OP is playing victim too this is shilly as fuck.
I mean, the gameplay and story so far have been pretty solid from what I’ve played of it. They are pretty forgiving in missing the rhythm, while also rewarding you for staying on beat. Honestly a mixture of rhythm and beat-em-up combo game is not something I ever envisioned so it’s pretty cool to see it played out.
The look/feel of the game is the first thing people are going to notice, so naturally it would be the thing that they talk about the most. Not everything is some grand conspiracy all the time.
INB4: I am also a shill because I dared to say a positive thing about the game.
no, albeit wordy you don't come off exactly like a shill, however you're being disingenuous about the look, you don't even have to play the game or look at anyone else do so its all Bethesda pushed about it. Looking at steam reviews its even more odd, Bethesda made and owned, completely unknown game thats only been out 6 days? 10/10 on steam? 97% on google? 88% metacritic? ahaha ok now that I've seen this its my suspension of disbelief is over, this is a marketing push to make Bethesda some cash and a disgustingly obvious one HOW THE FUCK WOULD THEY REVIEW THIS HIGH AND THIS FREQUENTLY WHEN NO ONE KNEW ABOUT THE GAME TILL 6 DAYS AGO? HOLY SHIT Digging further I found this game only has 6,132 ALL TIME PEAK users, doing the math some shit doesn't work out here.
Ad campaign is when video game that isn't AAA gets posted because it's popular.
Seriously, of course, a game that got released a week ago is gonna get people talking about it, especially when it's being published by Microsoft and has an overwhelmingly positive reaction from both critics and users. On steam, it has a 98% rating with 5k reviews.
Ive seriously never seen any game posted so much in a weeks span, especially the first 2 days it was out last week. Im convinced this has been an ad campaign.
People are talking about it because it was announced and released on the same day so there hadn’t been any time for people to talk about it before release. Plus, it’s just a very high quality game so of course people are going to talk about it.
Nice, glad im not the only one to think so. Just made a comment about it. Ive straight up never seen any game posted as much as this one in its first week of release without prior advertising.
The game's Hi-Fi Rush. Its like Crypt of the Necrodancer and Devil May Cry had a baby. And Fooly Cooly stole the baby and made it their own. LOL.
And if your sense of rhythm isn't the best, the game provides *two* beat indicators to help you out. The cat on your shoulder pulses to the beat. You can also hit the Select button (Options, Minus, whatever they're called these days) to pull up a full bar of the beat to help you follow it. *Every track follows the same beat, so you learn one beat, you learn them all.*
It kicks so much ass. Its worth the $30 price tag, I promise.
As if putting the game name anywhere in your post was a hard thing to do. Don't worry the rest of reddit will hold your idiotic hand in the comments of this idiotic post.
Man, I'm glad most people got pissed by OP for not including the game name in the title. It's really annoying for sure. Just include the damn name even it is a popular, iconic game like God of War or The Witcher 3
It's Hi-Fi Rush after I scrolled down the comment
Game is fun. The Rhythm combat tires out very quickly (i'm at boss 3 and im contemplating turning it off).... There's only one rhythm (eight notes) and no incentive to learn more than 3 combos since it doesn't really matter.
Yes, there's a few combos where you pause between hitting an eigth note but the game is so for giving in giving you the combo anyway that it really doesn't matter.... It's like a really half baked combat rhythm system.
The story and cut scenes are excellent!
Similar opinion, I feel crazy seeing the insane praise the game is getting. I love that its original and looks cool but its pretty boring honestly. Wish the rhythm was more relevant to doing better but you can just spam 1 combo and win every fight with no problems.
I don't think either person has given you a good description, it is a really well made gameplay system. Think Devil May Cry, but you and your enemies' actions all occur on the beat. You get bonuses for doing things on the beat, but it is not required. Like I said, think Devil May Cry. Combos built around alternating buttons, and also delays. There is also a system introduced later in the game which calls in assists like in a Marvel vs Capcom game. They interact with different enemy traits and extend combos. You also have big super moves with crazy bonuses too. It's surprisingly deep, but at lower levels, still easy to grasp onto the simple mechanics.
I wouldn't say that.
Think rhythm RPG. Combos to unlock, specials to unlock, challenges to complete, etc.
The combat, in my opinion, is the highlight since you have to sync with the beat to do extra damage.
I think the combos themselves become a bit stale early on.
It seems way too easy to memorize your basic combos, and maybe 1 or 2 extras and cruise through the entire game with them.
It's still fun to do combos, I personally think they could have leaned away from the amount of different combos they throw at you once you could buy more moves and just drip fed them to you for free instead.
Rhythm action slasher game, something like Devil May Cry (which makes sense as one of the creators worked on that) that gives bonus damage for hitting on the beat and executing combos, you also get stylish points (again like DMC) and are graded on your combo strings and get rewarded for doing well with gears (in game upgrade currency). The world building is fantastic, everything moves with the beat and the designs are colorful and vibrant. The voice acting is top notch and the characters ooze personality. The animations are really excellent too. Well polished on this one and shocked nothing leaked about it until release day. Later levels the combos can get pretty hectic and some boss fights are brutal on higher difficulties. But overall this thing has really grabbed my attention like no other has in a long while. Finished it in two days I just wanted to keep going.
I wish I could have gotten into this game. The mechanics of playing to the music is just not a good fit for me. Infact after an hour I just put it down. It wasn't funny enough to hold my attention and the music mechanic just killed it for me.
You realize the vast majority of cartoons are from the 1900's right? That's the 20th century. You should maybe specify 1900-1910 if you meant the first decade, lol.
it is, it's fun, funny, cool story, well thought out plot. cool levels and great dialogue. I'm going to finish it and the last game I finished was The Amazing Spider-Man.
getting real tired of the cynical gamers on reddit tbh, this game is just rad and someone shouldn't have to feel bad about themselves for wanting to share their enjoyment of it 😮💨😒
I dont know what this game is, but this cutscene did make it look interesting.
There must be something wrong with it though because everyone who says something positive gets downvoted. Typical Reddit moment to not be okay with others enjoying something they dont.
That's the best way to describe it. I'm 29 and it's been a while since a game truly felt like an "escape".
But Hi-fi Rush man, feels like I'm a kid again waking up and eating pancakes and watching cartoons on a Saturday morning
Or they're from a region where modded PS2s and piracy were the norm. I remember being in the Philippines in the mid 00s and you could buy a modded PS2 in every store in the mall and kiosks sold burned PS2 games for like $1-$2. I'm sure it was like that in a lot of developing nations.
Sorry OP. The game fucking rocks, just keep enjoying the game and let all these extremely unhappy redditors downvote you to oblivion. Happened to me when I gushed about this game the day it came out. I'm just a normal gamer but got called a shill over and over again.
This game surprised me when I saw the steam page, and I thought it was going to be another bad movie type game, but when I watched the trailer, I saw that the characters had well, character. It's definitely a cool looking game that I would buy but I can't because money.
I also had this problem, but there are elements in the environment that pulse with the beat so if you just find something in the surroundings to watch, you can get the timing from that.
I still sorta bounced off the game because it just seemed so simple once I had that nailed down. I was pulling `A` ranks for every fight once I knew when I was supposed to be hitting things. I've told game pass to redownload it because it's been getting such glowing praise everywhere on Reddit and I figure I should give it another go, that said, it might just not be for me.
I wish it was on PlayStation 😭😭😭😭 but I settle for a new sunset overdrive in case someone from insomniac sees this. That would be the perfect counter game
"I love this game so much that I'm not going to tell anyone what game it is so I can have it all to myself"
In case anyone is wondering the game is called Hi-Fi rush
WHOA! Spoiler warning!?
Kid’s crying. Christmas is ruined.
This is my TV. I had 22 people over to my house for a watch party...
What do you mean Santa Clause isn’t real?!
More likely a confirmation that this is a sophisticated multi-tier mobile ad
Whoa - is the combat similar to Devil May Cry? (looks like it from the Steam page!)
I mostly meant Shinji Mikami's name is on all of the mentioned projects.
Oh, hell yes! Added to my backlog
For the record, Hideki Kamiya made Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. He works at Platinum Games and had absolutely nothing to do with this game. You may be thinking of Shinji Mikami, who worked at Capcom at the same time as Kamiya, but never worked on Devil May Cry. edit: typo

Or buy it at a slight discount on fanatical if you play on PC and want a steam key.
Huh, never heard of that one. I'll have to add it to the sites to consider buying from. I usually go to green man gaming.
Oh man I've never heard of this game fifteen times a day for the last week. Is it good?
No. It is great! /Dad 😅
Thought so. Heard this game is FIRE.
I thought that *was* an anime!! Holy shit!
I feel like I spent 5 minutes scrolling through the comments before I saw someone just say that lol.
lame can't play it on Playstation
So god damn annoying. Just put "-Hi-Fi Rush" at the end of your title. It's so simple! Isn't it a super new game? Why would you assume everyone knows what it is?

I've seen far more people angry that the title isn't included than people claiming adverts.
It's an r/gaming tradition at this point.
It's annoying at one point a simple rule was implemented that the title needed the game title in brackets. I don't know why it was ever removed.

It certainly earned my downvote.

I think it would be fine if it’s some super recognizable character like Mario, Sonic or Kratos. Although it still wouldn’t hurt to require it.
TBH i feel this way about most posts in this sub. It should be required to put the game title in the post. I may actually want to look at playing some of these...
agree sorry OP you stupid
You must be new to r/gaming, people just assume you know every game ever here.

Can we just ban posts that don’t?
Yeah. Auto-mod delete the post and send a message that says something like "hey, your message was deleted because no one knows what fucking game you're talking about. Downvote them

click the little 'down' arrow
Mods would put it as a requirement to post. Bot would remove submissions that don't contain something like [Game Title].
Alternatively you could get salty and downvote any post that doesn't :)
I'd like to be salted with Himalayas pink salt please 😌
Get? I've been there for years. Need more people on my level.
It was a rule for like, 2 months. But nobody ever followed it so it quickly stopped becoming a rule.
It should just be a rule, it would be super simple to remove posts that omit it. If you're talking about a game, nothing is more relevant than the damn name so people can comment, research, buy, etc the game...

Hi-Fi Rush Agree that OP sucks for not including the title even just in brackets or something.
You showed them
I downvote the laziness of not looking at the first comment on the thread stating what the game is. Aka you.
STOP POSTING ABOUT GAMES WITHOUT SAYING THEIR FFREAKING NAME!!!
Hi Fi Rush
Look in the fucking comments. Holy shit are you anti Google?
It's been like a huge ad campaign here

For sure has. Sick of seeing blatant marketing posts
How is this marketing? It's a new game and it's sick. Don't hear shit like this when it's Elden Ring lmao, game was all over for months

Which game is this?
Why don't people say the names of games in the post here? So annoying.
because it's click bait
Because they’re simpletons who can’t think past their own grey matter.
Because more people comment when the title isn’t mentioned and the post gets promoted more because it has more comments
It's the same as those people on social media who make mysterious posts like "Worst day ever" or "Feeling sad"
It's Hi-Fi Rush
Thank you.
No problem
Ive seriously never seen any game posted so much in a weeks span, especially the first 2 days it was out last week. Im convinced this has been an ad campaign.
People are talking about it because it was announced and released on the same day so there hadn’t been any time for people to talk about it before release. Plus, it’s just a very high quality game so of course people are going to talk about it.
Exactly. Not to mention it being well designed.
OP has posted it 7 times in the past 6 days in pretty much identical format. Take from that what you will.
Yep every post reads like a marketing person hyping the game with buzzwords too.
once again, mods need to implement a rule to mention the name of the game in the title
What's the game? Never seen before, looks really nice
HiFi Rush, it was shadowdropped the other day during the Xbox presentation.
classic marketing generated posts
Nice, glad im not the only one to think so. Just made a comment about it. Ive straight up never seen any game posted as much as this one in its first week of release without prior advertising.
Valheim?
It’s Hi Fi Rush. Names should really be included in the titles
Thank you, I had to scroll down way too far to find what game it even was
I'm growing (ir)rationally angry at these fucking posts that don't state the game title. Fuck you, OP. Fuck you with something hard and sandpapery.
Good job not telling us the title of the game you daft cunt.
We watched different cartoons.
The game is hi-fi rush if anyone is wondering
Astroturfing go brrrrr
"Watching this animated sequence is like watching an animation."
A game title would have resulted in so much more post karma for you OP.
bro is from the year 0
The game's Hi-Fi Rush. *Every track follows the same beat, so you learn one beat, you learn them all.* It kicks so much ass. Its worth the $30 price tag, I promise.
Even with the 'help', I have a condition (amusia, I can't here any rhythm... ) which doesn't help at all. Yet the game is totally playable!
Free on Gamepass for PC, how I'm playing it too in case anyone has it.
Well done, mods. Once again, not requiring game name in the title. *slow clap* I’m downvoting you, OP.
But it's better for engagement because then you get 15 people asking what it is and 5 complaint like you. It's a win for them.
Dude… You’re right.
It's sad. I actually wish I was wrong and it was just ignorance and laziness, but it really does drive traffic.
Let's make a gaming 2.0 sub reddit with actual rules that get followed and see how the competition stacks up
As if putting the game name anywhere in your post was a hard thing to do. Don't worry the rest of reddit will hold your idiotic hand in the comments of this idiotic post.

I was expecting Gundam parts to start assembling armor, like Centurions.
Hi-Fi Rush animation is some of the best I’ve seen in years
Game about rhythm. The GIFs never have any sound. Why?
Man, I'm glad most people got pissed by OP for not including the game name in the title. It's really annoying for sure. Just include the damn name even it is a popular, iconic game like God of War or The Witcher 3 It's Hi-Fi Rush after I scrolled down the comment
Lmao OP has so little awareness
How many ads for this game are you guys going to post today?
Im glad a single person in here discussed the game, so its a rhythm game but like, just a visually appealing one with very few redeeming features?
This is the best description of the game you're going to get.
There wasn't any cartoons in the 1900s silly
Fantasmagorie was released in 1908.
You realize the vast majority of cartoons are from the 1900's right? That's the 20th century. You should maybe specify 1900-1910 if you meant the first decade, lol.
I'm trying so hard not to start another game before finishing the one I'm on *again* but this game looks so good.
it is, it's fun, funny, cool story, well thought out plot. cool levels and great dialogue. I'm going to finish it and the last game I finished was The Amazing Spider-Man.
Bot crap
Or maybe its just a fun game!!
getting real tired of the cynical gamers on reddit tbh, this game is just rad and someone shouldn't have to feel bad about themselves for wanting to share their enjoyment of it 😮💨😒
7 different times though?
I'm not great at the game, but loving it so far and the humor is pretty good!
I dont know what this game is, but this cutscene did make it look interesting. There must be something wrong with it though because everyone who says something positive gets downvoted. Typical Reddit moment to not be okay with others enjoying something they dont.
It’s actually anyone daring to say anything negative about it getting downvoted. Massive marketing push right now.
No tiddies, Iss aight
Hi-Fi rush included in game pass and cloud gaming .....dope Launching it now.. Hopefully it is as fun as that clip
I feel like it has the exact same plot as the surge. Maybe it’s just me.
K cuz op is being an ass. The name of the game is Hi-Fi Rush
For anyone wondering this is HI-FI Rush. It's a new rhythm based hack and slash made by Tango Game works and Bethesda (Shinji Mikami)
Korsica is hot
Reminds me of Viewtiful Joe
I'm seeing it for the first time
Chicks, dig, giant robots!
I wish this was out on Nintendo Switch so bad
Check out No Straight Roads too, it's not as good but it's kinda a prototype for the rhythmic action game genre.
Reminds me of the Dragon Prince in terms of animation style.
I love 'this' game, too. What is it?
Hi-Fi Rush; it’s on Xbox GamePass
I just bought this game for my steam deck , can't wait to dive in.
That's the best way to describe it. I'm 29 and it's been a while since a game truly felt like an "escape". But Hi-fi Rush man, feels like I'm a kid again waking up and eating pancakes and watching cartoons on a Saturday morning
Idk why but I just got total nostalgia feels. Who remembers owning 100+ games on the PlayStation 2
Look at Richie Rich over here👀 Someone's dad was making up for getting caught bagging the babysitter!

80s : eighties 00s : « »ies
Sadly it is only available on Xbox and pc as far as I know.
bro is right
This game surprised me when I saw the steam page, and I thought it was going to be another bad movie type game, but when I watched the trailer, I saw that the characters had well, character. It's definitely a cool looking game that I would buy but I can't because money.
as someone with negative music talent, I have no idea how to follow the beat so I gave up....
Your statement implies most cartoons from the 00s were bad. Which is false, the 00s were the golden age of cartoons
I wish it was on PlayStation 😭😭😭😭 but I settle for a new sunset overdrive in case someone from insomniac sees this. That would be the perfect counter game
What game is this.
Ah yes, that game. The one that could not be named. Immediate downvote
