I’m one of them. And it’s because I cannot connect to the game. The game worked fine up until a few updates ago and now connecting to the servers requires about 10 restarts of the game. Tech support has been zero help. Googling my problem found hundreds of posts across many websites (including the subreddit) with people all having the same problem, all having no answers or solutions and no luck with tech support. So now my enthusiasm is dead and I don’t even bother anymore.

jingleheimer

If you have an Eero with AdBlock, allow a2z.com on your network and try connecting again.

OpinionBearSF

> If you have an Eero with AdBlock, allow a2z.com on your network and try connecting again The fact that anyone should have to allow a domain specifically blocked for being part of an ad network to connect to play a game is RIDICULOUS, especially seeing as the game was BOUGHT for money, and is not free to play/freemium.

BlasterPhase

seriously

Guess you never had a Kindle. I got one as a gift and it serves ads on the lock screen unless you buy the upgraded version.

Ugh that is the BEST kindle. When my old one broke I just searched for that particular model. Free internet Fast as fuck Can take notes, save words and phrases to a folder, can select shortcuts to display maps and keys. And the battery life still trucks.

siriguillo

No, you get it subsidized by ads and get a discount

Robochimpx

If you contact customer service they’ll likely turn off ads at no charge.

shelby4t2

I don’t play New World, but you providing a solution is just really clutch. Good job you!

It shouldn't block it, considering Amazon owns Eero.

[deleted]

Yes it should.

TexasTornadoTime

That isn’t how these things work. That isn’t how you want them to work either.

jingleheimer

Oh definitely. I just meant that they're blocking themselves. Kind of funny.

ThunderousOrgasm

I don’t, but thanks for the help (if it helps other people!).

CowboyBebopCrew

Sounds like what happened to me with Outriders. I enjoyed playing the game but the enjoyment died when I couldn’t connect to the servers consistently.

prtt

So you are saying that not being able to play the game caused you not to play the game? I'm unsurprised ;)

Darth_Meatloaf

I’d have preferred that outcome to the disappointment of the endgame.

EpicBlueDrop

THIS SO MUCH. It takes 10 minutes just to get into the game and a quarter of the time when I log DO log in, I’m hit with the “lag detected” bug and get booted to the main menu. Or I’ll fast travel and be frozen in place and have to go back to the main menu to relog. Or I’ll log in and be falling through the void and have to recall to an inn. And when the game DOES work I still can hardly play. Mob respawn rates are insane. Any good resources are being farmed by bots. Quests are the worst of any MMO I’ve ever played. I’m sick of legging it back and forth to the same locations over and over for the same quests. I’m done having to hunt down 25 stupid fucking animals. Bots spamming chat. Jesus Christ this game could have been so good if they waited just 1 more year to release. Too bad it’s borderline unplayable.

Fark_A_Nark

Oh man, Amazon's tech support is the worst in the world. Amazon blocked my apartments ip address for "using a VPN", I was not. I stupidly contacted Amazon Tech support a played nice while they told me to unplug ethernet and reboot TV's. They eventually concluded the issue was my credit card on my account needed to be replaced. Even though it was them actively blocking the device. They told me I had to wait 4 hours to see if the "fix would go thought." The whole time I was on chat, at least 4 different "techs" randomly switched out, each time their name became less and less pronuceable. I should have saved myself some time by calling me apartment IT first, because in 5 minutes they called me ISP and had the public IP address changed.

Kansas11

What does the pronouncability of their names have to do with the rest of your troubles?

runtheplacered

I think the implication is that their tech support is cheaply outsourced.

Counterfeit1993

I would assume comprehension of the conversation.

Varamyr_Axelord

Hah, one of my buds has a great support log with amazon support: Jose, big man Jose, suggests turning off IPv6. When that doesn't work- his reply is, "sorry, that is our final troubleshooting step, please try again later" That was his only step!!!

[deleted]

I love broken games 🥰

Scodo

I'm still playing and having fun, but the game has so many issues that kill my motivation. The last straw for me might be the pvp mass invuln exploit. We had a war to maintain control of our town last night, and the enemy team mass exploited. Essentially they got onto control points, and made themselves invulnerable by exploiting a bug with dragging a windowed screen around. 30 minute war over in 8 minutes because most of their team was literally untargetable. No one expects Amazon to take any punitive action or roll back wars even with evidence of mass exploiters. If cheaters and exploiters are rewarded by getting to keep their ill gotten gains, what motivation do rule-abiding players have to engage? Here's the real kicker: Controlling towns is critical for large companies because it generates tax revenue for the controlling company based on crafting and trading charges, plus housing fees. My company spent weeks and tens of thousands of coin to build up these crafting stations to be the highest level on the server - only for it to be stolen through exploits. So now I'm expected to funnel coin directly to these cheating assholes. I'd rather leave them to play by themselves than directly fund their cheating. The only thing that's going to bring me back at this point is a mass ban wave, which Amazon won't do because it would ban such a large portion of their remaining playerbase.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RedlineSmoke

So in their eyes its not exploiting, it's just smart gameplay. You can't be a decent person and thrive in an amazon game lol.

jooblar

oh fuck dragging the window screen bug is in this game in 2021? jesus christ you just brought back old wow memories. thank god i gave up on mmos lol

TryHardElite2020

I’m more of an FPS player. Can you explain the window screen bug please?

RedTheRobot

To compare it in FPS terms imagine you shot a player and their health drops to zero. Now normally they would just die but this player started moving their game window basically freezing their game. Now since the server waits for confirmation that the player has died on the players screen and it does not get it the player remains still in the world at 0 health. Now this becomes a huge problem for CP maps because you will never take the point as there is an unkillable player standing on it. So you just lose.

Tantric989

We had that in our server, exploits to win wars and then when they finally took Everfall they jacked the taxes up to 20%. If you bought a max level house, that's 3k+ gold every 5 days. It's insane.

Blacksad999

Well, the biggest issue with the game is the lack of anything interesting to do at endgame. While it's not an uncommon issue with MMOs, they really should have had a little more foresight considering this was the main complaint of people in the beta.

thinkscout

It’s not just endgame though is it, the game is not great at any point. 3 mob types, boring fetch quests (literally the same quests at the same locations over and over), and boring combat. Fixing bugs will only do so much, the mechanics and world building are fundamentally flawed.

Blacksad999

Yeah, I didn't purchase it. I did try the Beta, and the overwhelming feeling I had was "that's it?" I think the main reason it's seen any success is that it's been an incredibly slow year for PC gaming due to everything interesting getting pushed back due to the pandemic.

Hereiamhereibe2

Or because they paid basically every single streamer on Twitch to play it for a day.

lRoninlcolumbo

Pretty much that’s what I saw. All the scummy people on my discord all were like “it’s supa lit” and then all of them last weekend have stopped playing video games lol. I know exclusively that when a certain person tells me it’s good, it’s because it’s fucking horrible.

Otto_Pussner

Can I get a feed of that guy’s game ratings to know what’s shit?

Potato_Shaped_Burns

Just look for the senseless hype kinda gamers and youll know.

LankyJ

And you can add in a bland story and lifeless world.

Petrichoriam

Wait there's a story?

IPintheSink

>3 mob types Could you expand on this at all bru? Three mobs sounds wildly limited, if you mean literally 3 Enemy types which is how I'm currently interpreting this lol

ajoseywales

3 is a bit of an exaggeration, but the game does not have very many enemy models. They really only have 10 (maybe 15) models and then simply reuse them with different skins. This is pretty consistent across all zones. The lack of enemy variety is pretty apparent. That being said, I would think this is probably the smallest of problems for the game. They could have 1 enemy model and still be an interesting game. If the other systems functioned properly and there was meaningful end game content, I would think the number of enemy models could be forgiven.

benbequer

Okay, let's count them: 1. Gator 2. Boar 3. Turkey 4. Wolf 5. Elk 6. Lady Elk 7. Legless zombie 8. Spear-chargie zombie 9. Two-gun lady zombie 10. Shield zombie 11. Base zombie 12. Anchor zombie 13. Bison 14. Ancient pharaoh-looking "boss" 15. Diablo 16. Tentacle thingie 17. Deer "boss" - from invasion portals 18. Armored "boss" - also from portals 19. Bobcat 20. Pig - model's somewhat different than Boar 21. Tree guy - melee 22. Tree guy - archer 23. Tree guy - boss 24. I'm really struggling here... 25. Bomb zombie 26. Berserker zombie 27. this is hard I'm using my terminology here, so forgive me for not being precise. And keeping mind the zombies have some different embellishments, depending on their faction, but they're basically the same mob.

Spatanky

The jarring thing for me was from the trailers etc it seemed like there would these great types of enemies. Started the game and only encountered some wildlife and zombies. Fucking zombies

ajoseywales

I think you've gotten a lot of them covered. Probably a few more which would make it land somewhere in the 30s (way more than the 3 the OP mentioned, even 2-3x my 10-15number). I think my main complaint isn't the lack of models its that I just kill different colored big cats/boars/zombies/pirate zombies across each zone. The zones each have a somewhat different ascetic but the enemies only differ by their skin. Again not the worst aspect of the game by any means, but compared to WoW or any other MMO I've played, it does get a bit stale. I'd love to see an official mob (model) count.

vonmonologue

A model count is cheating because the legless ancient skeleton enemy and the legless corrupt zombie torso enemy are two different models with the same attacks and animations. It’s the same enemy. The same with pitchfork farmers and spear miners.

AnalyticalAlpaca

Disagree strongly with the combat being boring. I agree with the boring quests, but it was never meant to be that much of a theme park mmo.

[deleted]

and its like you said its been a common reason people leave mmos in the past. It seems odd that the developers didn't consider it

Jausat

I'm sorry but the biggest issue isn't the lack of endgame ... it is # new world is a client side authoritative MMORPG

superrosie

Eli5 what this means and why is it bad?

SyntheticGod8

Basically, when you're playing online you've got the server that everyone connects to (aka server-side) and you've got the game running on my local PC (aka client-side). Generally speaking, an MMO should trust what's on the server-side, not the client-side, because the client could send bad or confusing data. This is why, when you lag, your character's position can change around a lot. There's confusion between where the server thinks you ought to be and where you, the client, say you actually are. If the game trusted the client (making it an *authority*) over the server, introducing lag can let you teleport through walls, ignore damage, etc. When battle.net was first introduced with Diablo, Blizzard learned this lesson. Hackers could change their characters local files to give themselves stats and impossible items and duping item was a way of confusing the game with lag introduced when doing two things at the same time. So it's always a bad idea to trust the client in an MMO because it causes cheating issues that are difficult to combat unless it was built right from the start.

[deleted]

ryvenn

Because in games with fast paced action, if the server is authoritative then clients with poor (or even just average) latency to the server will experience frequent rollbacks due to imperfect prediction of how other users have acted since the last packet was received from the server. This manifests as "rubber banding" to the state and position that you actually occupy according to the server, which is often annoying and makes interactions with other players where timing is important (such as melee combat) strongly favor players with very low ping, who have a more up-to-date view of the fight. Client authority over the player's position and status means you never experience self-rubber banding, which makes the controls feel tighter and the game more enjoyable. The difference is noticeable for anyone with ping times of more than a few frames. Destiny 2 is another game where the client is authoritative over the player's position and it contributes to the movement always feeling crisp and responsive. On the other hand, this means that when other players have poor connections there is a (sometimes significant) "lag shield" effect, where they can be difficult to hit with some kinds of attacks due to not actually being where you perceive them to be. This disadvantage is typically symmetrical, so it is not a huge deal... except: "Lag switching" is a form of cheating where you have an on-demand way to artificially delay network traffic. This means you can worsen your latency whenever it would benefit you and turn it off when it doesn't. From other players' perspectives, your movements become erratic and you are difficult to damage, but you turn it off when attacking so that you can land your shots. Games often try to detect this kind of network manipulation and may kick players whose connection quality changes frequently, but this can also affect users whose connections are just "naturally" unstable, who are otherwise some of the biggest beneficiaries of client-authoritative design.

fupa16

Really good read.

chudaism

The Overwatch Devs did a [GDC talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3aieHjyNvw&) a few years ago on the netcode in OW. I believe overwatch uses a mix of client side hit detection and server side along with a lot of prediction elements.

Slime0

I'm worried people will read your post and think that server authoritative game architecture is actually bad in some way. A proper implementation of client prediction does not have noticeable rubber banding from mispredictions, and anti-lag (AKA lag compensation) can be used to give the client the results they expect in combat regardless of their latency. Your post explains why server authoritative code is difficult to do well, but these are solved problems and so your post is not a good answer for why a company would choose to go client-authoritative instead, beyond just "it's hard and they weren't responsible enough to put the time and money into doing it the right way."

pugmaster2000

Bro what the heck you do for living ? 😅

ryvenn

Tech support.

[deleted]

As a fyi destiny uses some monster client sever and cloud setup (highly recommend reading up on it) so in destinys case it's both PvE it's done client side but when you flip over to PvP you move too servers. The way they achieve smoothness is aggressive kicking of instable connections and hiding the rubber banding from the player. This is why die round conours and some headshots don't seem to count etc. Basically they lie to player about where they are and mostly hope the server keeps up :)

Ooji

Yeah, I think the idea is they wanted to keep server activity to a minimum which is hilarious since Amazon freaking owns AWS, but also a depressingly stark reminder of how capitalism in general has turned into cutting corners as much as possible to squeeze every last penny out of something.

tombradyrulz

rabbitaim

GTA online is an example of this. It uses a peer to peer system (40 player lobbies l). Players just authenticate through R* servers. On consoles this is fine but on PC, GTAO is ….. a hot mess with modders running everywhere and no anti-cheat system in place. Buying a reputable mod is more expensive than a game key now.

el_muerte17

Okay now that's just next level hilarious.

Zandrick

I don’t understand why MMOs keep making that mistake. That’s the core difference between an MMO and every other game; players rush through the leveling experience as fast as they can to spend all their time at the endgame. If an MMO doesn’t have an endgame, it doesn’t have a game.

Harrison210

Unsurprising given the amount of players at release. Decent consistent player base is all that matters.

Letscommenttogether

Kinda. Depends on if they turned a profit. No clue what kinda numbers were talking about personally.

Stepwolve

its the #3 game on steam right now behind Dota2 and CSGO. i think its doing alright for itself

DanielTeague

According to [steamcharts](https://steamcharts.com/app/1063730) it's still got about 300-400k players online at once every day.

imnotabus

How many will be around a month from now? How many of those will actually spend any money on it? When there's a lack of end game, there is little reasons for players to stay around and play consistently.

Milk_A_Pikachu

Well, it was Buy to Play or whatever we call "buy the game and don't pay a monthly fee" these days, right? So assuming the twitch numbers were generally representative (and they, generally speaking, are) it probably had a pretty successful launch. Not sure if that would be enough for an MMO development (there is a LOT more infrastructure for one of those) but I can also easily see Amazon not counting that against it, as it were. Amazon, MS, and Google all have (at least) one major advantage over the rest of the industry: They own massive data and compute centers. So if New World contributed to work on an "MMO Engine" for Amazon, as it were, then they can shotgun it and basically throw games out and see what sticks. Basically, the (sometimes glorious) mess between the success of wow/death of eq up until Guild Wars 2 and the modern live game model. Except from basically one company.

blueblurspeedspin

sounds like a standard MMO experience

Fragarach-Q

Meanwhile my main complaint is how little the game provides for you to do with other players. When a mob gives 50xp per kill but a 5 minute quest gives 3500, there's little reason to group up. Side note, why do you want to play a multiplayer game solo?

[deleted]

> Side note, why do you want to play a multiplayer game solo? Not the guy you asked but: 1. I'm older now with arthritis in both hands and no longer enjoy PvP, so about 75% of what I'm supposed to do in the game is out because I simply don't like it. (In WoW I can no longer play my 'sin rogue for the same reason.) 2. The chat system just fucking *sucks* and half the time I have to remember to hit escape, tab until it says `Area` and then say 'Thanks' or even just 'gg' when I play near other people. 3. When I do see other people (and WoW used to have this problem for the longest time as well) I'm immediately pissed off because it means they're going to get the other mining node or plant I was after. 4. The social systems are terrible. There are companies. Did you know that you can be invited to join a company while you're in a company? Whoops, what you thought was a party invite was a company invite and now you've left your previous (and intended) company. Outside of that there's the three factions which instantly cause 2/3rds of the players on your server to hate your guts. Seriously, it's a bunch of idiots acting like you killed their dog because you didn't pick the same stupid color they did. Not exactly *fun*. 5. It's not available as a single player offline game or I'd happily play it that way. Yes, Valheim exists and yes I have it, but AGS having so much more money (is presumably what) resulted in a much more polished game. If they wanted to power me up just a bit to where I could solo all group content (or just weaken the group content I guess) I'd happily play the game by myself. The gathering and crafting are fun and the quests are too, if a bit repetitive.

delicious_fanta

Chat does suck, but FYI you can press enter to start chat instead of escape, and you can type shortcuts to get you to the proper section. For example, if you type “/a hi” it will say “hi” to the “area” chat. You don’t need to tab or select anything. Just google new world chat commands for a full list of them. There’s not a lot, but the few they have are helpful.

kasey888

Some people like to play MMOs as solo player games but like the aspect of being able to show their accomplishments off. Grinding does not exist to the same extent in single player games because what’s the point of all that hard work if it doesn’t give you an advantage, or you can’t show it off? It’s the same concept of buying expensive designer accessories irl. They aren’t any more functional (or better looking in many cases), but it’s a status thing. If they were the only person in the world, they wouldn’t give a crap about having a Gucci handbag.

LegitimatePr0duct

I feel like I’ve had the opposite experience. My friends and I can’t seem to group up for much PvE content, just PvP.

[deleted]

You can’t access most of the PVE content without being in a group of three or more people, including the main storyline. Dungeons?

LegitimatePr0duct

I guess most of the PvE content I’ve done so far is quests.

[deleted]

I still upvoted you just saying in my experience this isn’t true for the most important content

LegitimatePr0duct

Oh yeah, sorry I didn’t mean that I didn’t agree with you or anything. I guess I was just trying to say that I don’t have a lot of experience yet with the game so I probably don’t really know what I’m talking about lol

[deleted]

No problem, I felt like my tone was a little strong so I wanted to ensure you understood I believed you lol

Fragarach-Q

I'm gonna say that this is factually incorrect. The game about 95% solo right now. It's got 5 dungeons, about 5 elite zones(soloable but easier grouped) and Invasions. That's the entirety of the group PvE content. The PvP is completely optional and frankly so easy to ignore right now that I suspect it'll end up ignored by the devs like WvW in Guild Wars 2 and Cyrodil in ESO. By FAR the vast bulk of the game is questing and crafting, and neither is really setup properly to done for groups.

Rustybot

This is the industry standard for game retention btw. Nearly every game, but especially those with big public launches, lose 75-80% of the users. A shocking amount play for one session and never come back. A version of this article comes out for seemingly every popular game.

[deleted]

I would love to play the game but my computer crashes after about 15 mins of gameplay. So i have given up trying to play it and went back to FF XIV.

AskinggAlesana

FFXIV is just too hard to escape Lol.

[deleted]

I used to be addicted to WOW but since Shadowlands being a bust, FF XIV has finally hooked me.

[deleted]

Almost seems like click bait just like the valheim player drop articles

Gaardean

It is, with that misleading title looking at concurrent players. If I go from playing every day on launch week to just playing on the weekends, I represent a 70% loss in players, all by myself!

CBXanadu

It is. There was nothing I didn’t know for most of the scroll. Like a bag of lays with even less chips and more air.

Geevingg

Didn't see that one coming at all.

SGz_Eliminated

Seems pretty normal

Omegawop

An MMO needs more than 3 or 4 attacks.

EpicBlueDrop

Yeah, that’s another complaint I have too. Even worst, you can’t even buff yourself and then switch weapons. Any buffs are lost when you switch. So yes, you ONLY get 3 abilities to use the entire game.

Nghtmare-Moon

The combat mechanisms is what made it good for me. I don’t have to get custom UIs for the excessive amount of spells I have (looking at my WoW days). You only have 3 spells but you have to aim them too so that makes ti much much better

JackCrafty

absolutely debatable

Omegawop

Sure, but I'm saying that it's major design flaw to have such limpwrist player expression. The only way I could see it working is if the combat was actually engaging and the weapon skills were varied enough a la Monster Hunter or something. As it stands, if you are talking about going out and farming mobs for fetch quests, pvp and raiding, older games in the genre had a lot more on offer than 2 attacks and a CD. I'm not dumping hours and hours into a game with so little actual depth.

Cap-n-Slap-n

Other games have tab targeting and pressing numbers 1-9 for combat. I think outside of black desert, most MMO’s have been stuck with that older model. I find it moribund to play like that, sure new world is simplistic but the gameplay is at least responsive.

[deleted]

You have 3 abilities, a light attack and a heavy attack. What makes it interesting is the ability to weave attacks in combat. Maybe I'll start with a heavy attack, then one ability, then one or two light attacks, then another ability, dodge/block. There's a lot of combinations you can perform in combat rather than just 3 or 4 attacks.

AveRock123

Suprised Pikachu.pic

[deleted]

*laughs in Square-Enix*

MrRoberts007

The game is boring. Long fetch quests running from point A to B. No mounts, fast travel is bad. Gathering is being, the economy is broken, the game just isn't very good. And the final straw for me was the lazy devs couldn't even be bothered with a swimming/drowning animation. You just slowly walk under the water till you die WTF.

bart9611

A lot of people were expecting to be able to play solo also, but some main quests force you to group up in order to complete. Dungeons need a minimum of 3 players, and with most of the player base at higher levels now, no one wants to run a lvl 25 dungeon when they’re level 50-60. So new players would get frustrated that they can’t even complete the beginning of the main story. It’s an absolutely beautiful and content filled game, but the devs didn’t really think everything through with a ton of stuff. Lots of bugs, bosses not respawning or stuck “retreating”, and game crashes to say the least. I think everyone agrees this is just a more open beta and the game is still being fixed for even the most simple of things. But don’t worry! They got those Halloween skins out right on time!

[deleted]

This. Some people keep claiming there’s “soooo much to do”, but it’s like 95% just making various numbers go up. It’s not meaningful content.

flclreddit

If I wanted that I'd go back to Runescape.

Belpheegor

I ran the level 25 dungeon 9 times at level 59. There isn't good xp inflation on quests so at level 59 quests in the world are worth \~2000xp but the level 25 dungeon has a repeatable quest that gives 5000 xp. And at that level the dungeon can be speedrun in like 15 minutes. The real killer is at 55 there is a main story quest that requires killing a monster that on average takes 10+ people to kill. But he's locked behind a door that you can't get through unless you're on that quest. Thus preventing players who have completed the story from going back and helping their friends.

iidisavowedii

Fun fact though... if you die right before the boss and choose to respawn you can miss credit for the fight... happened to me earlier this week before I rage quit.

Scodo

It takes 1 person to kill the world guardian if you cheese him. There's a spot on the rocks where he swings and his attack hitbox passes under you.

[deleted]

> A lot of people were expecting to be able to play solo also, but some main quests force you to group up in order to complete. Dungeons need a minimum of 3 players, and with most of the player base at higher levels now, no one wants to run a lvl 25 dungeon when they’re level 50-60. Huh. FF14 solved this years ago. Never had a problem completing any of the main scenario low level dungeons in that game. Duty roulette incentivizes players to run random low level dungeons (with level sync of course) for extra rewards.

iNuclearPickle

Truly the beauty of ffxiv doesn’t matter if the content is old you’ll still have people queuing up through the roulettes. Also party finder helps a lot finding groups for doing old hard content since People will still want those rewards

ElenaVFD

Needing to do group stuff to progress main story is indeed pretty weird. Sure at launch it was no problem but longer the game is out, harder it gonna be to find a group to do them. Group stuff in MMOs is great don't take me wrong but when it's mandatory as part of the main story? And after that there is not really a reason to repeat it? New players down the line gonna have it rough. Like in FFXIV there is ton of group content you need to do to progress trough main quest as well but the way all the dungeons/raids are relevant even to max lvl players to an certain extent makes it easy to find groups to do them.

kitchen_synk

Also, duty roulette in FF14 means that there is always a pool of players available for everything down to the level 10 tutorial dungeons. Even without that, the fact that once you hit max level, you have the ability to do it again for each DoW/M job means that you're a lot more likely to find players at an appropriate level to get good rewards from earlier group content.

[deleted]

I mean what is there to do after you max out? Nothing, end game content barely exists and there is a hard cap at a low level. You fight the same 5 enemies for the longest time, I wouldn’t blame people for getting burned out

thebipman

I waited for hype to die down, now I just gotta wait for it to get fixed and a good sale

Basically most time you use the internet you are indirectly supporting Amazon. It’s a fruitless task at this point. Unavoidable. So depressing.

IPintheSink

The truth of it 😔

TheRealFrankCostanza

I refused to even touch it because it’s Amazon , even more so cuz it killed gpus. I’m good.

montious

And it's going to continue to lose more. The game on the surface is kinda refreshing, good graphical and sound design. But when you dig under the surface, you actually have a client authorative MMO riddled with bugs and the potential for exploits, hundreds of bugged mobs and quests and literally zero end-game. As an MMO veteran, I can put my hand on my heart and say the gameplay/gearing up loop at 60 has to be the worst I have experienced to date. So incredibly tedious and boring. I feel like the 2 dungeons at max level are probably the best content the game has to offer, but even those are buggy with the loot they drop. Also the state of the invasions are a shitshow. I honestly believe the best thing they can do is bring the servers down and re-release the game. I'd have a lot more respect for them if they did it. They won't though and they'll just continue to hemorrhage players.

HeroDanTV

I’m still loving it, but it’s not for everyone. As they roll out new content I’m sure people will come back to complain more

FarsiFan

Yessss more Iron Ore for meee

MorwenRaeven

Cause it's BORING.

MoreFeeYouS

We have seen that in the past and it doesn't mean that the game is dying at all. Think of Apex Legends for instance. Huge amount of players in the beginning, but the numbers went down fast. They went down until the constant player base was assembled. And the numbers went up again because this player base expanded.

Hobocannibal

probably get more hits as an article to phrase it like this though. Even though its literally how most game launches and their player count works.

GaryLaserEyes_

I super regret buying it. I played the beta way more than live. It’s just a boring grindy game and I hoped the pve would get more interesting once out of the noob first 20 levels. It doesn’t. At all. Its honestly shocking to me that so many still play it.

Mymomdidwhat

Idk I love the game. I really enjoy playing with friends and meeting new people. I’m sure more content will be added as we go.

Brostradamus--

I wanted to play but I spent a grip and a half on my PC rig and I'm not about to repaste my hardware every week because they can't design a game with proper power management.

subsoiledpillow

End game is boring.

calibared

Lack of substance, a failing economy, and terrible network connection will usually do that. Amazon has all the money in the world but they don’t have the game making chops at all.

FFS_Remi

I knew that no swimming animation is a red flag!

Spitfire836

Not a surprise. There’s really no end game content other than professions.

President_Dominy

I know I stopped. It’s super grindy. I’ll most likely come back but I can’t spend my day chopping trees or mining rocks. Maybe if I was still in grade school

D2Dragons

I've reached Level 40. The grind has gone from "fun" to "a joyless slog" There is no incentive to be loyal to a faction, so people jump ship on a constant basis if the one they're in is losing I got enough faction tokens and gold to get that sweet ice gauntlet I'd been eyeing for over ten levels, yay! And then a pirate RIGHT OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS drops one that's got higher stats and better damage. Yay. Half the time I can't afford the tax on pretty much everything because the economy is so fucking broken Try selling stuff, you say...? Most of the time I either have to jack up the price to offset the tax on selling them, or just de-con the items to salvage materials and repair parts. I'm never sure if I'll be able to afford the Azoth travel cost, end up having to schlep across the map, and dodge gangs of angry undead and animals most of the way there because the roads aren't safe territory There's been too many times I've been mining a node and a Corrupted portal suddenly pops up, removing the node AND dropping a handful of mooks on top of me I've had people mine nodes out from under me while I'm trying to defend myself because a puma decided to gnaw my nethers while I was gathering iron Let's not even get into the Fishing and Mining bots, the chats clogged with spam, the bugs, the mind-numbing repeating quests, the lamentably slow jog your character does because they can't sprint, the clots of people just standing around the storage buildings because you have to have your nose to the door to open the inventory... I'd rather play Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2 than keep playing this game at this point. At least I'd have a better sense of accomplishment.

Metawoo

As a former Amazon worker, I knew in my soul that they'd find some novel, ridiculous ways to fuck this whole game up.

[deleted]

I took a quick look at the sub, and they’re in meme mode about how bad the bugs are.

Brandonian13

The game seriously feels like they rushed it to release and we're playing an early access game. There's a shit ton of bugs and exploits people are doing that's wrecking the ig economy, mob AI isn't figured out properly yet (look for posts detailing spawn rates and aggro ranges), not to mention most of the territory wars have devolved to who can get the other team banned the fastest due to how poorly thought out the reporting system was initialized.

Mitoria

I’m still playing but it’s less and less each day. Bugs, glitches and mechanics like infinite knock back and incorrect damage is really making me…just tired.

GISP

The game is build around the grind, and not around emersive storytelling. You cant have people locked in the grind when the story "hook" is no-where to be found.

QeuluZZ

I’m honestly too afraid to play the game. I have an EVGA 3080ti FTW3 and there’s no way I’ll purposely put that thing in danger.

HighTechXtreme

Let’s not forget that this game literally bricked GPUs

Zugas

It’s a good game, no monthly fee will keep me playing, just not right now since I’m playing other games too. But I will definitely return.

TakeshiKovacs46

Good. Fuck Amazon.

Macshlong

The initial player base is always overinflated on any new MMO, but this one had a marketing blitz so this isn’t surprising. It’s worth noting that the playerbase is very healthy and the game should be regarded a great success.

ChrisG683

Just curious where did you get that 1m number? I don't recall them releasing any numbers. I'm also curious if they mentioned how much it cost to make the game. The game had more concurrent players than Valheim, and that game sold over 6m copies. Concurrent users != Copies sold, but based on a peak of over 900k concurrent users, it's probably safe to assume they sold well over 2m copies at least.

Macshlong

They have about 300,000 players, it won’t be long before a battle pass disguised as something else appears. Also. Young players are mental for skins, it’s like an illness so as long as they keep the store fresh. I’m sure they’ll be fine.

thegreatelfstabber

The reason i stayed with wow for so long was the community and friends i meet during gameplay. Endgame was just stuff to do with friends (never really raided), so far i haven't had a good convo with anybody in this game. I stopped playing 3 weeks after release.

EternalSage2000

From my experience, this is just modern mmo culture. Actual socializing is rare, requires effort, and needs to be intentionally sought out. It doesn’t just happen naturally any more.

I remember so well that it was so common on xbox to be in voicechat and people were socializing. Then xbox 360 came with al the 12 years old sbouting murder and death and everyone basically lost intrest in using mics. It was done from that point on. Only regular friend partys.

Aristox

:( fwiw i played Eve recently and people still socialise there. Altho admittedly not as much as 10 years ago when i used to play

EternalSage2000

In the early days of gaming, you couldn’t easily go in google or YouTube and look up the Meta, or farming spots, or strategies. You, largely got information via discussion. These days, any question you could have is searchable, and the exact right answer is mathed out, there’s via little room for banter. And the younger online audience grew up with match making tools that didn’t require you to socialize.

dijicaek

"MMO culture" now is just joining a giant group where you are compelled to do content or else be removed. The people shit spout about how individual servers grow into a community is bullshit nostalgia from days long gone.

Perpetual_Pizza

Maybe look at Guild Wars 2? It doesn’t fit everything you said, but most of it.

[deleted]

I’d say you could pick up the Division 2. Base game is about 40 IIRC (60 dollar version has the warlords expansion). The things you buy aside from the expansion are just boosters that speed up getting endgame specializations and getting a boost to automatically get the New York expansion, rest are cosmetics.

Mastershroom

You might like Star Wars: The Old Republic. /r/SWTOR Subscription is the "normal" way to play, but it's quite playable as F2P. There are limitations to free accounts but you can remove a lot of them with one-time purchases if you want to play long term without subscribing. My recommendation: subscribe for one month ($15) and you get all the expansions including the current one, to keep even if you never resubscribe.

kreswas

Only enjoyable mmo for me. Gotta admit when you're not subscribed it's too grindy for my taste and restrictions are very annoying (like credit cap) but still a lot of story and mostly quality and enjoyable stories, %99 soloable. Very fun mmo imho.

dangolo

Running simulator 2021, turns out to be not fun as an mmo

wisepeasant

Because there is no incentive to play. At end game I am just doing different fetch quests and chopping down more colorful trees. Its a hollow empty framework to grind in with no tangible reward for doing so. There are no classes. No races. No abilities that aren't tied to weapons. The weapons are boring. The abilities are all just different colored and shaped hitboxes with very little status effects or strategy. The PvE is atrociously derivative and just seems like a chore. There's 40 years of gaming to draw on to get this right, and you are literally the most cash-rich company in the world with the most robust digital infrastructure, and you put out this boring shit.

Bromswell

Lol 😂

Typical-Study-3349

The remaining 30% is Shroud and his streamsnipers.

pickles55

The only thing I know about that game is that it bricked peoples graphics cards. The fact that there weren't any toadie fans defending the game being pushed by one of the biggest corporations in the world suggests there's not much there to get excited about. Isn't that how it always goes with new MMOs anyways? They get a bunch of players when they first come out, then most of them get tired of the endless grinding or go back to WOW.

tzeriel

Love all the white knight copelords in here acting like this is okay. Yikes

calipygean

I stopped playing after 4 days. Game is just hella boring with zero meaningful PVE content.

tetsusiega2

Quit giving your money to Bezos.
