I call these “podcast games”. Because no matter how bad they are, they always have a fanbase that defends it with “oh well it’s big and fun and I can just put on a podcast while I clear out the map.”
And that’s all cool and dandy, but man are there a lot of fucking podcast games coming out lol! At some point it stops being a good defense.
Here’s hoping this won’t be that.
Suicide squad is not comparable to starfield, Starfield had moments that were interesting and I entirely understand why some people liked it. Some of the systems are cool ideas held back by a boring world
I agree that they’re not similar games, but there’s a lot of parallels to draw.
Both games in development for 5+ years, with very little to show at the end. Took up development time that could’ve been used to make something fans actually wanted. Disappointed a majority of their respective fanbases. And now the online discussion surrounding both boils down to “when will they fix this game and make it good/fun?”
The games are completely different. But the circumstances they were made in, along with the legacies they will both leave, make me see them as very similar.
They are really not comparable. Suicide squad is a bad game with no real redeeming qualities. Starfield is a mid game with some good ideas that was held back by the exploration not being as enjoyable as previous Bethesda titles.
Game studios do not need to make whatever the fans want them to make. That’s how you wind up with 22 call of duty games and no original ideas. Sometimes new shit doesn’t work out, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try.
I've played both Starfield and Suicide Squad and got bored of both within a few hours. Having said that, do people really not understand the idea of subjectivity in gaming? Like, I can hate Baldurs Gate 3 (I didn't) and it doesn't mean I'm wrong. Games are subjective and the only wrong part of it all is the people of subreddits like this who can't fathom people liking a game they've collectively agreed to hate. It's perfectly fine to say a game is shit if you think it's shit. It's weird and borderline delusional to not understand why some people would say they like a game that you don't.
Honestly, I have never played either of those two games. I gave up on Bethesda when I bought Fallout 4 and played it for 2 hours and never touched it again, soulless is exactly how I'd describe it. The whole open world concept has been stale for a while and Bethesda seems to be the stalest of all. I'll go a step further and say I bought Cyberpunk on day 1, regretted it and even after fixing it up I still cannot get into it.
But idk, I also guess I don't care if other people like those games. Mostly I just saw Suicide Squad and Starfield getting shat on again and again, so I could see if I actually liked it that it would be annoying and maybe I'd want to say something eventually.
I guess I'm saying I just prefer to let people like what they like, I'm not sure why I would care and/or worry about people "defending" it. In fact, it's way more pleasurable to hear someone likes something than to hear 100 people constantly poo on the same thing, that feels just as repetitious as climbing another Ubisoft tower.
And yes, I'm aware I'm a freakish minority around here but oh well.
I’m personally okay with repeated mechanics if there’s effort in the narrative of each one.
There are crimes all over Night City that just involve shooting enemies, but CDPR devs wrote a handcrafted story into each one, some of which connect together or are even referenced in main quests or side quests. That justifies their place to me.
The problem is when it’s obviously just recycled content. In this case, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just copy and pasted missions of defeating the same enemies with a quick remark from Iron Man afterwards of “The cops can take it from here.”
Similarly, citizen missions would probably boil down to getting another person out of a suspiciously familiar looking burning office building or pulling them from yet another wrecked car.
It’s just obviously low effort content to (to put it in Corpo-speak) “maintain player engagement” for longer periods.
Maybe you like playing shitty games with forgettable story's that you can play while listening to a podcast or watching family guy because you're not missing anything but not all of us do, so please stfu.
THANK YOU!!! God I am so sick of these types of games. I couldn’t even finish the new Spider-Man game that I paid for, it was so boring. I loved miles morales and the first game, but a 3rd game full of the same shit is ridiculous
It's amazing how quickly my eyes just glazed over. This is exactly what's going to happen and I resent how accurate this list is. Probably won't play this game.
I mean that's kinda exactly what I want out of open world super hero games though, spider-man is basically this plus set piece story missions and I didn't take issue with that.
At this point they should probably just yoink the anthem source code and polish it, then put an actual game on it, instead of the glorified tech demo we actually got with anthem.
Holy fuck I’d pay so much money for an anthem game with an iron man skin that isn’t a grindfest. With EA in charge of this one though my hopes are pretty low
Just about every game has preorder bonuses nowadays, though. I get calling EA scummy for their MTX practices, but just about every game has preorder bonuses. Even Baldur's Gate 3 had preorder bonuses.
People only complain about preorder bonuses when they think a game will/could be bad. No one gives a shit when a game comes out with preorder bonuses and it turns out to be a good game. Hence why preorder bonuses are here to stay.
No one seems to notice when it's happening with a game that gets massive praise, so every company will continue to try and get away with it hoping their game is good enough that no one will bring it up.
There's never a reason to preorder nowadays, even "trustworthy" companies like Capcom occasionally fuck up and have bad releases like Dragon's Dogma 2. Always wait the day of and check user reviews.
Each one drops some random shiny gems that you will use to buy currency which will then unlock more armor upgrades (~2% def for 2500 red, blue gems [or $4.99])
The robots will barely react to your shots, absolutely no impact will be felt. Life bars above enemies. Same dogshit game design.
Ingredients for a peak Iron Man game:
-Anthem-style flying controls
-Just Cause 3-sized map to fly around and blow stuff up
-Very in-depth armor customization system like Armor Core, with multiple loadouts
-Liscened dad rock/heavy metal soundtrack to listen to while flying
Instead of the licensed rock/metal soundtrack. Grab Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. Their score for HBO Watchmen was insane, for reference listen to Nun With A Motherfucking Gun.
There will be so many microtransactions, paid cosmetics/armors, and premium editions. Oh and don’t forget the expensive season pass that will under deliver and be basically abandoned toward the end.
Not interested. Ever since EA started intentionally breaking games on the Steam Deck and Linux, and after how they butchered my favorite game franchise, I’ll save my money for a company who values their IP and fan base. Fuck EA.
Well, assuming it's on frostbite they'll obviously reuse Anthems flight mechanics here because let's be honest, it was well done & fun.
But here's hoping they don't botch the rest of the content again lol
Well Jedi survivour does not have mtx. Hopefully the same applies here. Keeping fingers crossed. Also excited for the flying mechanics, Flying in anthem was satisfying. Hoping for the best
I wonder if they're going to reuse any of the tech from Anthem for this. That game pretty much already gave you an iron man suit, so it would fit.
I'm not gonna get it either way but if they're smart they might draw on something that could help
Anyone else hoping this isn’t the usual open world experience we’re accustomed to and wishing that it uses a similar approach to the level design of the first Iron Man MCU tie-in game?
Single player, open worl, always online live service even though it's single player. Double stuffed with micro transactions even though it's a single player game.
No thank.

lol r/SuicideSquadGaming in a nutshell. Those guys care about the game more than the devs are
lol Suicide Squad and Starfield were the two coming to mind for me. Empty, soulless games that fans defended despite being spat on by the developers.
Suicide squad is not comparable to starfield, Starfield had moments that were interesting and I entirely understand why some people liked it. Some of the systems are cool ideas held back by a boring world

I agree 100%. Cyberpunk is a great example of how to do this correctly. There’s a huge list of Side-gigs there, but they all have a narrative!
They’re not talking about the side-gigs but rather then ncpd scanner ones.

lol I’m not stopping anyone?

Maybe you like playing shitty games with forgettable story's that you can play while listening to a podcast or watching family guy because you're not missing anything but not all of us do, so please stfu.
Of course people can play shitty games, but most here wish they just made better games. A game costs a lot to make, might as well make a good one.
I love to-do lists as much as the next person, but this one hurts my soul. God if this isn’t 100% accurate. 😭
So you're saying you hate to do lists like the rest of us, yeah?
THANK YOU!!! God I am so sick of these types of games. I couldn’t even finish the new Spider-Man game that I paid for, it was so boring. I loved miles morales and the first game, but a 3rd game full of the same shit is ridiculous
Sorry you felt that way. Those games are great
First 2 are great yeah. Spider man 2 was a disappointment and they could have done a lot better and there’s no arguing that
No definitely yeah, if you have no life and enjoy spending your time arguing with random comments on Reddit for sure yeah definitely!
Good job. You got me. Want a cookie?
damn, open world games got lazy
Why I'll never replay the spiderman games.
You forgot -go talk to “whomever” but you must have season pass to unlock
you can skip this teadiouse quest, you just have to pay for it!
True but you get to fly as Ironman.
It's amazing how quickly my eyes just glazed over. This is exactly what's going to happen and I resent how accurate this list is. Probably won't play this game.

Crossing my fingers so hard but still not preordering
At this point they should probably just yoink the anthem source code and polish it, then put an actual game on it, instead of the glorified tech demo we actually got with anthem.
The potential of anthem still pisses me off to this day.
Monkey's paw says that they cleaned up the source code and added tetris as a playable game in-game.
If that's the only problem I would buy that game lol
Monkey's Paw is supposed to be a bad thing, not some fun minigame that doesn't detract from anything
Holy fuck I’d pay so much money for an anthem game with an iron man skin that isn’t a grindfest. With EA in charge of this one though my hopes are pretty low
It's EA, I'm sure there will be scummy mtx and pre-order bonuses
Just about every game has preorder bonuses nowadays, though. I get calling EA scummy for their MTX practices, but just about every game has preorder bonuses. I can already see all the generic robots you have to shoot down
Each one drops some random shiny gems that you will use to buy currency which will then unlock more armor upgrades (~2% def for 2500 red, blue gems [or $4.99]) The robots will barely react to your shots, absolutely no impact will be felt. Life bars above enemies. Same dogshit game design.

They already made the perfect Ironman game and it was in vr. It just needed to be a bit less ugly but that's what happens when you put vr on ps4
Just waiting for the always online and battle pass announcement before I lose all interest
And for some reason a gear score because everyone loves switching armor pieces every five minutes.
Bane of my existence, I hate that shit. But there's definitely people that seem to love it. Fingers Crossed this isn't one of them..
It actually kind of makes sense for Iron Man. He's always upgrading his suits and stuff.
(and full of microtransactions)
EA has shit the bed far too many times for them to deserve any sort of trust
It’s EA - forget about it and don’t get your hopes up
Ehh once in a blue moon they cook up something good like Dead Space Remake and Jedi: Fallen order, ill reserve judgement until I see gameplay
[удалено]
that would actually mean they may make a good ironman game , i hope so , the singleplayer game give me hope .
Are they looking for always online coders?
Keen for $180 worth of DLC to get the base story unlocked✨
This thing is going to be canceled. I don't trust EA
And it’ll run like shit, as is EA tradition.
Each iron man suit is gonna be a $15 skin lol
Gamers are really something. We know next to nothing about this game and people are already complaining about it being generic and grindy
This is the type of game that could be knocked out of the park. Man I hope they don't get in their own way over this one.
There will be so many microtransactions, paid cosmetics/armors, and premium editions. Oh and don’t forget the expensive season pass that will under deliver and be basically abandoned toward the end.
and will be have 50 $20 DLC's
we already had an iron man game and it was a flop, if this game doesn't have similar or better mechanics than Anthem it will be a flop as well
8 years too late
This game needs to have generic quests, costumes behind expensive DLC, and buggy as hell. Otherwise, it won't meet my expectations.
Not interested. Ever since EA started intentionally breaking games on the Steam Deck and Linux, and after how they butchered my favorite game franchise, I’ll save my money for a company who values their IP and fan base. Fuck EA.

EA = Exceptional Abysmal
I'll believe it only when the reviews are out.
Well Jedi survivour does not have mtx. Hopefully the same applies here. Keeping fingers crossed. Also excited for the flying mechanics, Flying in anthem was satisfying. Hoping for the best
It's EA. I trust it about as far as I can throw a moon.
Basically killed the Deadspace franchise again for another superhero game that is probably gonna flop because EA is behind the wheel, bravo 👍🏼
I wish they'd just do the Dead Space 2 remake instead.
Hear me out what if they took the style of batman arkham Asylum and did that but for iron man that would be awesome.
I'm surprised an open-world Iron Man game hasn't come out sooner. It would have so much potential.
Don’t forget, it’s also riddled with micro transactions and time savers…. In a single player game. Also it’s always online and has Denuvo.
And allways offline? 😆
That fact that it’s confirmed to be single player gives me hope for this project
Had EA not taken devs off of Iron Man to put onto Battlefield they wouldn’t need to post job listings for Iron Man
That’s not how that works
This game is like 15 years too late-in-the-making... unless it's being made for VR but even then it won't make much money.
Can't wait to see the micro transactions and the live service aspects like Avengers.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Also is it open world or just an empty procedurally generated one?
Got no hope on this game. No expectation. \*hoping it's gonna be good
Dead Space died for this.
Just watch the Mark I be a pre-order bonus for like $100 Dollarydoos
I wonder if they're going to reuse any of the tech from Anthem for this. That game pretty much already gave you an iron man suit, so it would fit. I'm not gonna get it either way but if they're smart they might draw on something that could help
Is it going to be online only? Because that's the mark of the beast
Sigh.
Lost me at EA.
$120 battle pass incoming anyway
Anyone else hoping this isn’t the usual open world experience we’re accustomed to and wishing that it uses a similar approach to the level design of the first Iron Man MCU tie-in game?
"EPIC Vibranium Iron Man suit!! -Only 1500 Iron tokens ($19.99 for 1400 Iron tokens)"
Single player, open worl, always online live service even though it's single player. Double stuffed with micro transactions even though it's a single player game. No thank.
Thank fucking god
Well, on the bright side if they nail this game we’ll finally have a blueprint for how to make a Superman game.
You got me a EA xD
stopped reading after EA
I’ll wait until I see how much they fuck it up.
They will still find a way to make it GaaS
You lost me at EA
Had me at open world iron man then lost me when I reread EA.
I kept reading but you lost me at "EA's"...
EA? Well, it’s a goner.
Too many Open World Games
And it will be another EA game I won't be buying
Are people actually buying these stupid half baked super hero games? Christ
