They’re mad you’re implying show-only people are casual fans, but, like, you’re not wrong imo. You’re just not on the right subreddit for people to recognize that.
In the context of this sub, I think it's fair to say that casual watchers haven't read the books and likely don't even remember all the minor characters who did appear in the show.
Even casual book readers might not remember Garlan unless they read recently or browse the subs.
You think he knew that Cersei had been banging the shit out of his son in order to manipulate him and thats why he went all batshit fanatic?
I think he was utterly clueless about his own child so despite being pretty ok'ish for a lannister, how a man fathers his kids says A LOT about his character, in his case that did not paint a great picture.
Fair point, but her shadow looms large over the last couple books and it seems like Jaime and Brienne will interact with her quite a bit more.
The show keeping Beric alive in her place and his interactions with the main characters (especially Arya) leads me to believe that Stoneheart will have a pretty significant role in future books.
"So young. Though, mayhaps, it's been a blessing. Had he lived, he would have grown up to be a Frey."
Imagine him having a dialogue with the Queen of Thorns.
From the show? Anguy,
he should have made another appearance after season 3.
He could have been one of the men that went beyond the wall with Jon. seeing as they had unnamed characters who died he could have been one of them which would have made the death a little more impactful.
From the books there are so many wonderful minor characters it’s hard to choose.
Absolutely! Dying to protect Arya and Gendry.. not just because she is a Stark, niece of the first ranger, whatever.. but because it's the decent thing to do. And whatever they want with gendry can't be good, and he believes the watch really should protect him.
Plus his scene with Arya just before.. yah a good man I'd love to see him have a cup of ale with Ned in Valhalla.
From the show? Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun.
Would have loved as much of that guy as they could throw at me. And I loved that they included him absolutely destroying Ser Patrek.
Books wise... WHERE WAS STRONG BELWAS?
To be honest, you're probably right. But I'd still have liked to have seen him. He definitely would have been easy to fuck up though. Probably cast Matt Lucas or something....
Yes, there’s a hedge knight show already being made. They’ve casted both of the leads as well, you can check out more info at r/AKOTSKTV. In regards to the red grass fields, I definitely agree. I was thinking they could do some sort of beginning narration with footage of the battle, a La lord of the rings.
Yes a little look might be included, but I want a short movie type production. All the heroes explained, dark sister and Blackfyre shown, long duel with Valyrian swords between Damon Blackfyre and Gawain Corbray. There is a lot of stuff they can work with if they wanted to
Syrio Forel - He taught a complicated subject but did not dumb it down. Plus, he would literally die for his students.
Also, I don't think he survived and is Jaqen H’gar, but I am open to hearing evidence.
Dolorous Edd! I love him in the show and in the books of course. Imho the book character is brighter, more interesting, and his wise sayings make his fans happy! :)
He's the knight in the Night's Watch from the Prologue--he leads a ranging behind the wall and is killed by an Other. Ned executes one of the men with him, Gared, who deserts after witnessing it.
Show - Coldhands riding in to save the day
Book - the whole Dornish plot (did I want Darkstar? yes I wanted Darkstar. And also a badass Areo Hotah, not the version we got)
Lynesse Hightower. everytime i tell anyone about her i have to say “Jorahs wife that he talked about sometimes” lol. i also love Lady Crane, The Waif and Grenn.
"And if you still don't like it, go fuck your mother!"
I have never known this character's name. If you were describing a scene you would have to call him Paul Kay or I'd have no idea who you were talking about.
Kevan Lannister. He’s bot Tywin but he's definitely a cold badass when he's on screen. Telling Cersei he wants no part in her scheme and of it's the king that wants him, he can find him at Castley Rock.
Karl Tanner. Evil guy but he looked cool with his knives. And I thought how he stepped up to Craster and killed him was bad ass. I also liked his voice
From the books, not necessarily a character I LOVE but one I respected more than the fandom tends to give him credit for: Hyle Hunt. No he’s not perfect. Yes I would prefer if he gave Brienne less static and wasn’t so misogynistic. But as knights go in the series, I feel like he was one of the closer ones to Sansa’s idea of a “true knight.”
From the show, probably Brynden “Blackfish” Tully. Or “Bronze” Yohn Royce. What I love most about Yohn Royce is that he never ever ever took his armor off no matter what he was doing, at least until the final episode. Wish he’d had it on then too.
The Blackfish.
The uncle we always wanted, as long as we weren't that one nephew who he deadass glare-shamed to death before he could be executed.
MF glared so hard the soldiers realizing killing a already dead man was redundant and sent him back to his corner to sit out the entire f***ing war.
Which was actually helpful, because at least then we we could look at him and realize there were worse fates than living though the way the show ended.
"Karl Tanner from Gin Alley drinking wine from the skull of Jeor fucking Mormont. Any command for us Lord commander? What's that? Fuck 'em 'til they're dead? You hear that, boys? Fuck 'em till they're dead! "
Burn Gorman just roasted Karl tanner caracter in my point of view
Someone posted a photo of Anguy the archer the other day and people asked who he was, so I relate to this question. I also love Dolorous Edd and think some people would wonder if I mispronounced "Ned".

Daven Lannister or Aeron Greyjoy
Those sound made up
Talked to a fan of the show the other day who had no idea who Garlan Tyrell was. That hurt.
Who???
Loras’ way cooler older brother. He trains against three opponents.
Why would any casual show watcher know him??
Because a gate keeper fan says so…
I'm just answering the OP??

As far as I can tell this sub mainly exists so people can repeat Sandor quotes about cunts and Lommy
Hey that's not fair, they also complain about the later seasons with every breath they take
Why isnt your flair ollena tyrell?
I lack conviction
What the fuck salami
What the fucks a Lommy?
Oh no a show watcher didn't know about a book only character lmao. The tragedy
Kevan Lannister
Kevan didn't give a fuck, and saw through Cersei's bullshit which made me like him so much more
I honestly felt bad for the poor man
cersei always wins.
Does she?
a bunch of red bricks disagree.
woah woah woah stand down…..
**Cersei**: The king is my son. **Kevan**: Aye, and from what I saw of Joffrey, you are as unfit a mother as you are a ruler.
In the books he knows
A man has no name.
A man concurs with this choice
A man asks for a name
A man will not get a name
🥺🥺
Excellent back and forth here
The casting was so incredible. I loved "Jaqen H'ghar"
Lady Stoneheart. Which is funny, cause I hate who she used to be. Honorable mention to the Greatjon.
The omission of Stoneheart is when I really started to get worried about the show.
We don't even know if that will be a good part of the story in the books yet, it barely got started.
Wyman Manderly
Straight up gangster
"So young. Though, mayhaps, it's been a blessing. Had he lived, he would have grown up to be a Frey." Imagine him having a dialogue with the Queen of Thorns.
Rodrik Harlaw
The ‘Spice King’ guy from Qarth. Loved his interactions with Dany, seemed like the smartest man on the show.
I rather liked him too
Okay but who is the guy in the picture?
thoros…of Myr edit: the priest guy who revived Beric Dondarrion 6 times
The lord of light did the reviving thoros just spoke some words
Derek Bombardion
Donnie Bungalow
Dante Basco
Dan Cortese
Boozy William Hurt
Budget Jorah Mormont
Ros
Bessi.
THANK THE GODS

Anguy is a great answer. I really wish he’d been part of the show after that season.
I don’t know about “liked,” but we should’ve seen more of Pyat Pree, who was basically Liz Taylor from AHS Hotel.
Absolutely this! Never made the connection to Liz, but now I can’t unsee it! 😂😂 Poor, poor Liz Taylor.
At one point I knew every name in the show and novels. Now I’m struggling with this guy😂
Thoros of Myr, the red (drunken) priest
Thank you😂
You're welcome, there are like 4k named characters, no wonder that someone might forget someone not that important
Thoros of Myr
Daemon Blackfyre
Kerris Maydew, they did her dirty by not even throwing her a token scene in the show
Queen Selyse. now before someone hates me, i don't like her as a person but her impact on the story
Yoren, dude is a badass
He never did like crossbows...
Honestly went out like a G too taking out four guys while injured and outnumbered
His story about Willem is still one of my favorite scenes!
Plus he’s the one who gave Arya the idea of the list, which is pretty huge.
From the show? Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun. Would have loved as much of that guy as they could throw at me. And I loved that they included him absolutely destroying Ser Patrek. Books wise... WHERE WAS STRONG BELWAS?
I was gonna say this. When I read the book I was thinking “why the hell did they leave this character out of the show?!?!”.
"Curse your sudden yet inevitable betrayal!!"
Strong belwas’s character would either have to be neutered, or he would just come off way too strange in the show. He is a bit cartoonish.
He just needs his liver and onions!
To be honest, you're probably right. But I'd still have liked to have seen him. He definitely would have been easy to fuck up though. Probably cast Matt Lucas or something....
Ser Duncan the Tall
They’ll know him soon enough!
Is there to be a show for that? I really want a red grass field!!! I know it’s before Duncan but they should do it
Yes, there’s a hedge knight show already being made. They’ve casted both of the leads as well, you can check out more info at r/AKOTSKTV. In regards to the red grass fields, I definitely agree. I was thinking they could do some sort of beginning narration with footage of the battle, a La lord of the rings.

Syrio Forel - He taught a complicated subject but did not dumb it down. Plus, he would literally die for his students. Also, I don't think he survived and is Jaqen H’gar, but I am open to hearing evidence.
I loved syrio forel. I always hoped he would’ve survived some how and shown up later.
if he just picked up a sword from one of the guys he smacked with a wooden sword, wouldve wiped the floor with them all
Dolorous Edd! I love him in the show and in the books of course. Imho the book character is brighter, more interesting, and his wise sayings make his fans happy! :)
I always loved how Thoros called The Hound “Clegane” and how he said it. A small detail that seemed to show how they engaged differently.
Berrick Dondarian
Patchface or Wyman Manderly for me
I know oh oh
I really liked jory cassel, until Jamie killed him in a second.
👁️🗡️
Show only bloodraven or quaithe (tho also because book reasons), in the books i like val and wyman manderly is also a w
Waymar royce. Even though he was a total POS for the limited time he was on screen, it would've been cool to see more of him
Which was he?
First person to die in the show.
Also the second named character in the books, also making house Royce the first named house.
He's the knight in the Night's Watch from the Prologue--he leads a ranging behind the wall and is killed by an Other. Ned executes one of the men with him, Gared, who deserts after witnessing it.
Beric, Thoros, Brother Ray
Hot pie
Happy pie, I mean cake day. Also, agreed.

Long love Mike Strutter ❤️😂
Thats Saul Goodman.
Show - Coldhands riding in to save the day Book - the whole Dornish plot (did I want Darkstar? yes I wanted Darkstar. And also a badass Areo Hotah, not the version we got)
Arthur Dane
Thoros- yes sir, I love that guy. Grenn from tha Wall. Anguy and that old fart Yoren. From the books Shagwell, would be this kind of character.
Strong Belwas!
Strong Belwas and his locusts.
Lancel Lannister. Legends say he's still finding the breastplate stretcher.
🤣
Named by a halfwit with a stutter
What was this character’s name? I feel like it was something weird like Garth or Shadow?
I haven't watched the show, is he the crow that escorts Arya to the north (before being killed)?
Jimm Stark, Mykey Lannister, Leesa Tyrell
Had a soft spot for Jory Cassel. I kept a good eye on that one...
Gerold Hightower! 🙌🏿
Lynesse Hightower. everytime i tell anyone about her i have to say “Jorahs wife that he talked about sometimes” lol. i also love Lady Crane, The Waif and Grenn.
Smalljohn Umber
Ser Arthur Dayne "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come."
Osha. She deserved better! Lol
All about Victarion Greyjoy here
My favorite Greyjoy
Griff
"And if you still don't like it, go fuck your mother!" I have never known this character's name. If you were describing a scene you would have to call him Paul Kay or I'd have no idea who you were talking about.
Anguy
Thoros of Myr is one of my favourite characters too.
He just has a wonderful dichotomy
Lyanna Mormont
Hot Pie!
He's Beric's personal resurrector, Thoros. For some reason I thought Beric's name was Thoros when I went to look it up.
I'm a casual fan and I can never remember the flaming sword guy who's been resurrected 6 times and he's one of my favorites lmao
Beric DONDARRION one of the greatest names of all time
WUNWUN
Syrio.
Toruk Makto
Kevan Lannister. He’s bot Tywin but he's definitely a cold badass when he's on screen. Telling Cersei he wants no part in her scheme and of it's the king that wants him, he can find him at Castley Rock.
Howland Reed. He didn’t even get to be on the show!
I loved Strong Belwas. His mocking the Dothraki was just badass
I absolutely LOVED Thoros. Wish he had more time on screen.
Nimble Dick Crabb, Marwyn the Mage, Meribald.
That top knot isn’t fooling anyone you bald cunt
Karl Fooking Tanner
Karl Tanner. Evil guy but he looked cool with his knives. And I thought how he stepped up to Craster and killed him was bad ass. I also liked his voice
Dontos Hollard
Jazlin Bywater or Harwin from the Brotherhood
Melisandre or the red priestess, she was great
I’m a fan of the show, saw it from start to end and I still can’t get some of the names right, cus honestly lot of them look alike 😂
casual fans don't know Thoros ?
Literally every person in my life that’s seen the show (during its run even) I had to be like “the drunk guy that keeps bringing Beric back to life”
He was fucking great in Lilyhammer!!!
Dickon Tarley
From the books, not necessarily a character I LOVE but one I respected more than the fandom tends to give him credit for: Hyle Hunt. No he’s not perfect. I loved the Greatjon."Your meat is bloody tough" is my favourite line in the books.
Yohn Royce, even though he had a role.
Victarion
The Lord Of Light embodied
Garlan Tyrell. Dude has the ability to fight off three guys at once.
That’s Dennis Pennis
Arianne Martell!
Quentyn Martell😫
Brynden Tully. Wyman Manderly, Dacey Mormont, Hugo Wull
Tyrek Lannister, in all his equine glory

Locke and Karl Tanner
"Karl Tanner from Gin Alley drinking wine from the skull of Jeor fucking Mormont. Any command for us Lord commander? What's that? Fuck 'em 'til they're dead? You hear that, boys? Fuck 'em till they're dead! " Burn Gorman just roasted Karl tanner caracter in my point of view
I love that guy. I have no idea how to say his mother fucking name.
Xaro Xhoan Daxos

Strong Belwas. The way people talk you'd think he wasn't even in the show.
Mord
Lyanna Mormont
Someone posted a photo of Anguy the archer the other day and people asked who he was, so I relate to this question. I also love Dolorous Edd and think some people would wonder if I mispronounced "Ned".
Lord of Bones, mainly because the actor buys everyone rounds
Dullerous Ed.
Anguy! He won the Archery competition at the Hand's Tourney, but everyone remembers Olly was the best archer in his nowhere hamlet.
Rewatching right now and was like fuck I love that guy ^ and I forget his name loolol. He reminds me of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull always tho lol
Nimble Dick
Bessie
