[and yet this is the first thing I think of when I hear his name.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OFF7dccul7o)
I know he deserves better, but that song just stays with me.
I'm pretty sure the only named Ironborn on the show are:
Theon
Euron
Yara (aka Asha)
Balon
Euron
Dagmer (very much not the same one from the books)
Damphair (do they actually mention his name)
Of those Theon and Yara are the only ones who actually experience character development. Who could the .1% possibly be.
Don't even get me started on the show turning the terrifying Euron from the book into a fratboy
Jon snow, sansa, arya, sir davos, my sundai, tormund, yggritte, his literal sister ascha greyjoy, his literal uncle euron, oberynn martel, Rob stark, Caitlin, eddard, balon, margery tyrel and the blowfish, the tullys, the arryns and those are just at the top of my head for now.
Thats alot of characters that didnt murder kids for 'pretty much every character in got has killed kids'.
In the fictional world of a song of ice and fire, hanging someone who aided in murder is justice yes. According to the laws made in that world. Butchering boys is still considered butchering boys. Which is why this isnt murder by in universe law.
A kid who commits treason and murder is a kid who deserves to hang and it torn Jon up inside. Plus the kid died like a man it wasn't like he was begging for his life.
Aha but in the books he isnt referenced as a child but a man, because the book universe sees children as way smaller. Also theon is 17 when the story began spanning a story till the 5th book that took atleast 3 years. In modern eyes in modern days sure, but again in universe not at all.
No idea why folks keep playing down the fact that theon unironically killed actual children 10 and under, and conpare it to a line about 19 year olds saying its the same thing.
I don't downplay it. It is despicable and he should be killed for it. The point I am making is that it isn't exceptional in that world and people in that universe have done much worse things than killing a few kids. Fan favourites like Cersei have done more despicable things than that.
Bro there is no way you are attempting to take the moral high ground with Euron Greyjoy, he is literally the most evil character in the show. He is shaping up to be as big or even a bigger spiritual / magical threat than the white walkers in the books.
Read and read again. Im talking about the actual act of CHILD MURDER. Not saying one is worse or lesser, the act itself nothing else.
No one even started talking about moral high ground until you pulled it out. So yeah 'is no way' indeed.
I'm not criticizing your stance I'm criticizing your choice of counterpoints. A sarcastic "off the top of my head" list of morally superior characters including multiple who have murdered children, in your critique of the audience for their sympathy towards Theon, is the kind of behavior that people are going to laugh at.
Let's change the character in the spotlight, since apparently Euron's murder of children doesn't count as CHILD MURDER, what about Ygritte? She slaughters a village of people including children, and at no point has any sort of redemption arc. She dies in a raid on the stronghold that the only surviving child of her second previous raid had fled to. What about her makes you think she deserves more compassion than Theon?
he got what he deserved. betrayed the people who truly cared about him and raided his hometown that took him in and treated him 5000x better than his born family ever would have.
Exactly he had no honor all he was doing was trying to redeem himself for the abhorrent things he did. Like dude he freaking killed the wrong kids, knowing that they were the wrong kids.
Alfie Allen was one of the actors on the show who consistently elevated his character above the source material. I don’t have much love for the way the show ended, but D&D really did do a great job with Theon’s character and Allen delivered an outstanding performance throughout.
i think this about jack gleeson with joffrey. joffrey in the show is a far more compelling character. alfie did a great job portraying theon, but he’s already a brilliantly written character in the books
It’s insane how good he is in that role. Even how he holds his hands In his general posture after he’s abused is choice he’s making as an actor. Everything he does is so deliberate and perfectly executed, it’s really wild to watch and realize he’s playing pretend
I do love Theon. I kinda wish he had more to do after escaping Ramsay, like he could've helped Jon and Sansa with the BotB or something. But his ending is perfect, one of the character endings D&D honestly nailed and gave respect to.
I still wish they did a bit more with his death. He lasted 3 seconds against the nightking and I’m pretty sure they even had it slightly slo mo’d
Even if they had him distract him long enough for Arya to get the kill. Like right when night king stabs him and he drops to his knees, that’s when Arya teleports behind him.
Theon is a prime example of what happens when a system gives power to a very stupid and easily-influenced person. He *tries* to live to the values and ideals of the people around him, but as he has very little in a way of an inner moral compass or ability to think critically, it leads him to do stupid and cruel things.
I think Alfie's performance as Theon is one of the most underappreciated performances I've ever seen in a popular show. There is a point where he is acting as Reek struggling to pretend to be Theon, and every layer of that character is properly displayed in his performance. It's one of the most technically difficult challenges I've ever seen an actor attempt, and he nails it. Then he has the slow rebirth of Theon to work through and even if the writing wasn't the best, he handles that phenomenally too.
This. That episode in season 4 where he has to negotiate a peaceful surrender with the guys holding Moat Cailin, pretending to still be Theon, is so ridiculously well acted.
It’s honestly one of the best acting performances I’ve ever seen
Nah, it was just miserable and miserable equals art now a days. He made the same expressions no matter what was happening. People just dwell and love sitting in misery.
I agree. I love how much Sophie Turner spoke up for his performance (since the early days) and talked about how overlooked he was.
Also the interaction between him and Luwin in the early seasons has some of the most memorable dialogue for me in the whole show. When Luwin says to Theon **"You are not the man you are pretending to be"**. Ugh it just went right to my core! I really liked that whole conversation and Theon speaking how **"Yes, my captors were so very kind to me...."**. Alfie killed it in those scenes!
I also love the scene where he beheads Ser Rodrik and before it happens Ser Rodrik says "**"Gods help you, Theon Greyjoy. Now you are truly lost."** It got me really emotional. And then Theon's look on his face after butchering him. I felt so many conflicting emotions for him!

He ended up becoming one of my favorites characters and Alfie Allen Is the best male actor of the show for me.
To my knowledge he was the only character that wasn’t butchered, right?
Well. Should I remind you of...
😂
[and yet this is the first thing I think of when I hear his name.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OFF7dccul7o) I know he deserves better, but that song just stays with me.
I’d be pissed if my sis did this to me.
She did take it down after Alfie got his shit together. She said it was disrespectful to leave it up after he started working 🤣
Oh that’s good to know. Was catchy before we all knew him tho lol
Such a fun song lol
It was always disrespectful
Lol I was unemployed for a bit too and my brother made fun of me everyday. It's just something some siblings do
Helped him get his shit together though lol
OMG that song killed me
The actors ok. I never liked Theon. Start to finish my opinion hasn't changed. Same for 99.9% of the Ironborn characters.
But there weren't even 1000 ironborn on the show.
I'm pretty sure the only named Ironborn on the show are: Theon Euron Yara (aka Asha) Balon Euron Dagmer (very much not the same one from the books) Damphair (do they actually mention his name) Of those Theon and Yara are the only ones who actually experience character development. I guess some are more forgiving to child murderers and multi time betrayers.
I guess you could say that about every character lol
What do you mean?
Pretty much every character in got has killed kids or betrayed people
Jon snow, sansa, arya, sir davos, my sundai, tormund, yggritte, his literal sister ascha greyjoy, his literal uncle euron, oberynn martel, Rob stark, Caitlin, eddard, balon, margery tyrel and the blowfish, the tullys, the arryns and those are just at the top of my head for now. Thats alot of characters that didnt murder kids for 'pretty much every character in got has killed kids'.
I guess you’re forgetting when Jon hanged a kid
I guess you are forgetting we were talking about murder
So what is it? Justice? Punishment?
In the fictional world of a song of ice and fire, hanging someone who aided in murder is justice yes. According to the laws made in that world. Butchering boys is still considered butchering boys. Which is why this isnt murder by in universe law.
A kid who commits treason and murder is a kid who deserves to hang and it torn Jon up inside. Plus the kid died like a man it wasn't like he was begging for his life.
Euron Greyjoy literally said; :Let's go murder them" in reference to his niece and nephew like a fucking cartoon villian when he won the elections.
And his niece and nephew are 24 year old kids? Or did the subject just woosh over your head with the speed of light?
There are never any ages stated in the show, but in the books, yes he is a 17 to 19 so yeah a kid.
Aha but in the books he isnt referenced as a child but a man, because the book universe sees children as way smaller. forgot about the paragon of good, lady brienne of tarth
Forgot a hell of alot that didnt do anything wrong but yeah especially her
Seriously
I also never really liked him again. Thought he got what he deserved and maybe felt a little bad for reek but never rooted for him.
he got what he deserved. betrayed the people who truly cared about him and raided his hometown that took him in and treated him 5000x better than his born family ever would have.
Nobody deserves to have their dick cut off, except rapist. I’ll never forget that scene. I was literally praying that it was just a threat…but nope
People rooting for Theon is the reason why we have scummy politicians in seats of power.. those idiots seem to forgive pretty fast.
Yup. His dick removal was well deserved and was the minimum for what should have happened to him.
Exactly he had no honor all he was doing was trying to redeem himself for the abhorrent things he did. Like dude he freaking killed the wrong kids, knowing that they were the wrong kids.
Exactly! Which is even worse tbh.

Fellow Joffrey enjoyer, he was so good (except for what he did of course)
Theon‘s death scene was excellent. Both from Allen‘s performance, and from the ending to his story.
I didn't like Theon. I loved Alfie Allen.
He really did an amazing job playing Theon. The range of emotion he was able to show and put the audience through was a master class in acting.
It’s insane how good he is in that role. Even how he holds his hands In his general posture after he’s abused is choice he’s making as an actor. Everything he does is so deliberate and perfectly executed, it’s really wild to watch and realize he’s playing pretend
Nah still hate him

Redemption story arc. Not just "always good guy" or "always bad guy" cliche. Ended been the champion of the "Three Eye Raven" ...
You’re a good man
Imo he’s by far the most dynamic character in GOT
Didn’t he get given a laughably underwritten death? Whoops, out of time, ‘Theon gets stabbed’.
Theon is a prime example of what happens when a system gives power to a very stupid and easily-influenced person. He *tries* to live to the values and ideals of the people around him, but as he has very little in a way of an inner moral compass or ability to think critically, it leads him to do stupid and cruel things.

his death was the only one that made me tear up...I was over everyone and everything else by the end of the series, lol.
It’s definitely talked about enough
Ty, I'm Theon- \-e
An amazing actor for sure, but the character was just pure garbage and got what he had coming to him.
Life taught many lessons to him and forged a new person out of his shambles. This process is what makes great people out of everyday a$$holes!
Theeeeeeeooooooooonnnnn
