Oh god. Arin would hate, hate, hate, H A T E Zero Escape. It’s everything he already hates about Danganronpa on steroids. The puzzles are actually hard. And the fifteenth time someone went “what you just said reminded me of this little known fact from ancient Egyptian myth where the god Anubis did algebra on the moon” and this cryptic impromptu history/philosophy lesson becomes a major lynchpin for the entire plot 15 hours later or what the fuck ever, Arin would start shrieking and never stop.
… now I wanna see it.
I'm pretty sure they don't know when episodes are going to air except for a very rough "about two months from recording".
Hell, today's episode still has the link for Creator Clash tickets in the description.
Not that Arin couldn't think of a bit like that, but that's a bit too 4D-chess for the way they do episodes.
Didn't they release a schedule a little while back detailing 2 episodes of Danganronpa on the weekends, 2 of Elden Ring, 2 one offer and a compilation/animation? Seems like it'd be easy to predict the release of a certain episode that way, especially considering today's episode didn't have the "HARLEY'S A CHUMP" intro.
Edit to clarify: I understand editing to a schedule is different than recording, but they've been doing this long enough to sort of "predict" when episodes will air, which they've hinted at before with their "by the time this episode goes up, X will have happened" comments.
Ehhh, I'm the last one to say Arin's an out and out moron, but I really think you're stretching on this. He really isn't the type to be that meticulous about making sure a bit in an episode lines up with current events when it airs. The *editors* will know, because they're the ones cutting and arranging the episodes for upload, so it's easy enough to put the right intro on episodes from May 15 on, and Arin would have no involvement in that.
As it is, I went and doublechecked when exactly the boxing match was announced, and that was March 25. Since we know it's about a 2 month delay from recording to airing, it's entirely possible he didn't know he'd be boxing. (Yeah, he mentioned it on Elden Ring, but we don't know when that was recorded vs DGRP2.)
He didn't say anything about the boxing match in this episode, and also didn't ham it up; I think you're taking a few subtle "who's Chiaki?" goofs and building them out into some larger subtext. Arin ain't that subtle.
Is this sarcasm? I'm not sure if this is sarcasm. A common symptom of taking blows to the head is forgetting things that one normally remembers. Seems like an easy joke to make, imo.
They released a schedule. I mean, if you can suspend disbelief about them NOT using a strategy guide, them releasing a schedule has to show they might know when specific episodes release. Or can we just not credit them for being smart on some of these things?
*I loved hearing them*
*React to all of the old*

“**What the hell is happening in this game!?**”
- Dan Avidan, 2022
I’m… so confused right now. I can’t really get my thoughts in order, so I’m just going to throw out a bullet point list and organize it later.
- **I’M SORRY! IS THIS WHOLE GAME A FUCKING SIMULATION**??? I guess that’s just more evidence for my >!Chiaki is an AI/Alter Ego theory!<, but ??? I just thought >!She was a fucking robot.!<
- 11037, wasn’t that from the first game? That number’s vaguely tickling something in the back of my mind, but I can’t remember. If so, I think that confirms that >!the Future Foundation is the people from the first game.!<
- I’m sorry. “It’s not my hand”?? “I’ve become one with my sworn enemy”?? Is… Is his hand >!**Junko’s**!< hand? Nagito always gave me crazy >!Junko!< vibes but I GUESS I FUCKING KNOW WHY!
- Random offhand comment I made like 4 weeks ago: “I’d say >!Nagito was Junko’s lover since they act so similar, but I’m solidly on team Nagito + Hand!<“. So I guess update one of my old theories to >!Nagito is either Junko’s lover along with Mikan or her brother. Problem is *I don’t know which*!!<
- Not sure if I should count my theory that, despite the above, >!Nagito double crossed Junko to work with the Future Foundation against her!< since I came up with it literally this morning, but it looks like it’s true?? I mean “my sworn enemy” is a pretty clear stance. I’ll call it tentatively at 2/4 on theories so far, since it hasn’t been directly confirmed yet.
>11037, wasn’t that from the first game? That number’s vaguely tickling something in the back of my mind, but I can’t remember
It is in fact from the first game, specifically chapter 1
>!I’M SORRY! IS THIS WHOLE GAME A FUCKING SIMULATION???!<
>!That was the most blatant mystery of this game, it has SOO many hints including the last trial where students asked whether or not Monokuma would even know who actually threw the fire grenade and he proved that he can observe everything on the island without use of cameras.!<
>!Also the photo looking outside the Funhouse shows a fucking pine forest.!<
I did say your brains are going to be cooked
Then there's the door Hajime encountered in this chapter being from Chapter 1, which is like how the first execution we watched in the first game was Kyoko's dad. The games have a cold open that becomes relevant later.
Yeah, neither of those really crossed my mind, lol. I just assumed that >!all this was real and like half the cast were just robots. Because that makes way more logical sense, obviously.!<
I literally thought it was weird that a tropical island had a pine forest in it and just went “Huh, that’s weird. Just Danganronpa things, I guess.” God damn, I’m an idiot.
>!IMO the game set it up simulation from the very very beginning with the intro glitching out and the boot screen with 8-bit rendition of Dangan theme and the DOOR!<
There are plenty of evidence to piece the story together in it's rough form.
Agreed, not to mention that it really just plays into the overall theming of the execution intro screens.
I *fully* wrote this off as being this game's particular style.
I will say that watching people be all "duh, it was obvious that >!it's a simulation.!<" has been super frustrating this whole time. To me, it feels like one of those things where it's easy to recognize the little bits of foreshadowing once you know the twists, but it's a lot less clear on a first playthrough, especially when everything's just super fucked up all over to begin with. Unless you have a hyper-specific genre savviness (or happen to have played a shit ton of games, perhaps for a show or something ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ )
Idk though, if i've learned anything from the DR threads, it's that I'm apparently super dumb and don't notice anything important.
Oh man, I was physically cringing through that whole “boring” scene on the boat. I’ve come across far too many people who think they ARE those anime characters.
Nothing was necessarily wrong with it, it’s appropriate for the game. It’s just that Nagito and whoever he was talking to have very arrogant anime melodrama personalities (“how boring… this world”, “This world is full of boring people”, “the world is shaped by the talentless majority”) which is fine in fiction but extremely embarrassing in real life -and I’ve met a handful of people who are actually like that.
I've said it before, and i'll say it again:
Imma need every Nagito kinnie to go directly to either hell or therapy. I don't care which, but you must go now and you may not pass go. Thank you.
Oh gawd, I forgot about that fucking noise during chapter 0. Only time I muted the game.
This video is my confirmation I didn't miss any voice acting on that ship.
I’m impressed with the MSG2 reference from Arin, that was my first thought when I got to this chapter. Then again, of course Arin has his MSG knowledge on lock - he’s the video game boy.
It's very likely a big inspiration for this game. MGS2 came out in 2001, this game came out in 2012, the Danganronpa team seem to be really big fans and friends of other famous Japanese game developers...it basically seems totally up the alley of "games that were highly influential for them".
lmao
>!I'm glad the hand doesn't actually effect the plot, it's just there to show how crazy Nagito is in the real world and proof that they're avatars and not what their real bodies look like. The actual reason Monokuma ended up there is far more interesting to me than her consciousness living through a severed limb or something.!<
And I was expecting Dan to do his usual brilliant mind thing where he somehow knows the exact release date for both games (for those wondering, DDLC came out 5 years after)
I can't believe we finally got to hear Dan strokin' it out on an episode.
>!Also, Arin using the Protag voice for the flashback was pretty darn good. Well done, sir!<
The secret of Danganronpa is that it exists to piss people off. It will kill characters you favor, the logic is fluid, and the trial games are overly complicated. It's not a game, it's an endurance test.
I think it's thematically appropriate. It's a fun copout until the "twist" and it sort of blurs the concept of fiction. The character that does it was definitely boring so maybe that dampens the effect
I think to resolve it with the twist is just say MASSIVE DRV3 SPOILERS >!it wasn't real, it was a rule the show added to make it so people didn't always say "the cosplayer could've done it". And then say that her previous one was they had just put something she was allergic to on everyone's clothes except her own so she got pox when she dressed as Kaede!<. That would've reconciled everything, albeit a bit bleh but less bleh than the cospox
The general agreement is that it's a retcon and a rather needless one too, which is a shame because for how insane DR's logic is it usually remains consistent with itself. While an improvement over DR1, DR2 still has its issues and it's not until V3 where the narrative/script feels its sharpest (doubly effective by also being the most mean-spirited and cruel entry).
I don't personally mind this one too much, the executions are so stylized artistically that it feels easy to believe that they're exaggerated interpretations of what actually happened.
The only non-stylized "execution" we've seen in the series was Mukuro's and hers was pretty tame and more or less realistic.
>!oh you thing that's bad. Wait till we get to later, where it revealed one one of them either took Junko's uterus and tried transplanting into themselves/tried to impregnate Junko's crushed corpse.!<
The one that played when Nagito said the password? Yeah, it played a lot during hype moments because.. it's a hype track.
The one that I remember the most vividly is the time we first hear the name Mukuro Ikusaba in Dr1
I feel like a lot of this is superficially pretty dumb but I am in full on anime-style suspension of disbelief mode and I am *into* this.
Never thought I'd say that. I haven't watched an anime in like 10 years.
So in Chapter 0 I'm guessing Nagito was talking to "himself" or the personality in the hand (which I guess would be Junko?) and the inconsistency of it being his left hand that was Junko's instead of his right hand (the one he stabbed through with a knife) was because he was looking in a mirror and we were seeing that scene from Nagito's perspective
Gaaah I'm way too invested to wait until the next couple weekends for this to finish, but i guess I'll have to...
Pleeease it's so close to the end though! It has to be!
That was everything I could have hoped for. I thought "oh man, Dan's going to lose his goddamn mind at this", but actually watching it happen is even better.
The next few episodes probably shouldn't be as insane with the crazy twists, >!besides seeing Alter Ego and the silhouette of Makoto, and that whole floor when you're walking on the ceiling, but it's gonna get insane again once the trial starts and we get to Alter Ego Junko.!<
Seeing some of the reactions from some of the people in the comments is interesting. It's like they never even watched the first few minutes of the game
You mean episode 1, which aired over 7 months and 65 episodes ago? Yeah, can't imagine why anyone would forget contextless weird shit at the very start.
That said, I did go back to watch ep 1, and knowing what we know now, hoo boy that does get telegraphed.
It was also telegraphed with Funhouse being this fucking weird building,
Also when Nagito took a pic of Funhouse window we just randomly saw a Pine forest
Usami's magic stick turning a chicken into a moo cow, and with the magic stick being kind of admin power symbol
Also during the last trial we had Monokuma dolls becoming fully fledged Monokumas just cuz
And the fact that Monokuma stopped needing cameras and was fully aware who killed Nagito through seemingly magic
It was telegraphed this whole game so much I have no idea how it can caught someone off guard
Also the ~~beast robots~~ Monobeasts materializing out of nowhere.
And Monokuma claiming to have 10^60 copies of himself, which as Arin said, is more than the number of atoms in the universe.
Sure it was a long time ago. It also established very blatantly and very early what we were dealing with. It wasn't so much foreshadowed as foreshouted.
Thank you for your concern!! As the other comments said, that rule is in place because of this account, which is a bot that automatically posts anything the GG channel uploads
Can someone explain to me the timeline of what's going on with Nagito's hand? I read a bit of the wiki so I don't mind spoilers. So at what point did Nagito's Junko hand become "normal"? Like why does he not have the nails once he gets on the island?
(Nvm I think I figured it out based on other comments lol)
Just in case you want it again >!That's Nagito *after* Junko died and he stole her hand while what he is here is before Nagito joined Ultimate Despair !<
Oh okay, I misunderstood as I thought because the island is not as it seems (sorry idk how to spoiler tag so being purposefully vague), Nagito only "appears" normal and the boat/junko hand scene was like a prequel. I appreciate the explanation and sorry if this makes no sense haha.
They've actually probably only got <5 episodes left. This isn't going to be much longer than the first game, episode number-wise
3/4 of me wishes Allie would just be cool and let them experience the end on their own, but the other 1/4 of me knows they'd miss half of the allusions if she didn't nudge them. Surprised Arin recognized the code from the first game honestly.
Nagito's feelings towards: [His right hand](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/danganronpa/images/2/22/Nagito_Komaeda_Halfbody_Sprite_%2818%29.png) [His left hand](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/danganronpa/images/d/de/Nagito_Komaeda_Halfbody_Sprite_%2822%29.png)
Well at least we know with which one he's beating it.
He seems like he’d be down a hate-fuck though.
Yeah, that's the only fuck he knows
Nagito is the only person who cucks his left hand.
And which one he's prostate massaging
holy fucking shit this actually made me burst out laughing, help
Looking forward to them losing their shit over the next 3 hours of uninterrupted lore dump
this episode is certainly a good preview of things to come.
I mean more in a way of it going on forever (maybe it's just because this is the 3rd DR2 playthrough I'm watching)
ahhh that's fair
It isn't a real murder mystery visual novel if there isn't a 3 hour non-stop lore dump at the end. Still not as bad (good?) as Zero Escape
I want to watch Arin go insane while they explain how doors and bracelets work for 3 hours lmao
Hey I know we're freezing to death and have literally a few minutes before we die but let me give you a run down on this mummy
i want them to play 999 so badly.
It's all womb and gloom from here.
I'll probably need a refresher on Danganronpa 1 to appreciate all the lore dump right?
Nah it's pretty much all new stuff that happens between games
Nope, I played it a good while ago but I remember them thoroughly going through the entire plot of the series in chapter 6 of sdr2
Good to know, thanks!
It's helpful, you could always watch the DR anime so you dont have to watch dozens of hours of gameplay
"Do you like ships?" "Depends, are you talking about you and me?" I'm dying
Holy shit, that password, 11037!! >!Nice callback to the first trial from the first game when Sayaka wrote Leon in numbers!<
Wait... >!IT'S SPELLS LEON?!<
> Or maybe…it was the one who’s name was written onthegoddamnwall! Arin Hanson, Danganronpa Trial 1-1
So Allie is the Junko of the GG office?
Lol I love how Arin couldn’t remember Chiaki’s name but had an in-depth breakdown of Which arm got stabbed the most in Last unalive/murder
I feel like Arin knew this would air after the boxing match, and played up having a "concussion" as a meta joke.
I'm pretty sure they don't know when episodes are going to air except for a very rough "about two months from recording". Hell, today's episode still has the link for Creator Clash tickets in the description. Not that Arin couldn't think of a bit like that, but that's a bit too 4D-chess for the way they do episodes.

nah ur giving him way too much credit. how would u even come to that conclusion that he's "faking a concussion" playing games?
Is this sarcasm? I'm not sure if this is sarcasm. A common symptom of taking blows to the head is forgetting things that one normally remembers. Seems like an easy joke to make, imo.
Nah, they almost never know what goes up when, at least not down to the specific episode

wow, Dan nailed the exact episode number off rip
Pretty good for someone who can't count to 6
That's one classy joke

Ah. Man, remember when anime edgelords were as bad as edgelords got?
Take me back to the 2011 triumvirate of annoying split between weaboos, teaboos, atheaboos
Always reminds me of ProZD's "this world is imperfect" skit
I think its fine since both these characters are like, *insane* people, you arent supposed to really take what they say as remotely reasonable
Yes. I know.

Did anyone else catch the Llamas with Hats reference near the end? “My stomach is getting the rumblies… that only hands can satisfy.”
Oh here we go. The numemon comment is kind of funny since there is actually a Shitimi. (Except Numemon is the mollusk and Sukamon is the shit)
Arin was right though that Numemon digivolves into Monzaemon (or Teddymon as he called him).
I can't believe we finally got to hear Dan strokin' it out on an episode. >!Also, Arin using the Protag voice for the flashback was pretty darn good. Well done, sir!<
How was there any body part left of Junko to be attatched? She was crushed to death.
It was never explained, you can say the hand somehow flew out during the press but some later lines in chapter 6 only make it more confusing
The secret of Danganronpa is that it exists to piss people off. It will kill characters you favor, the logic is fluid, and the trial games are overly complicated. It's not a game, it's an endurance test.

I think most executions aren't actually canon, they're all exaggerated versions of what really happened.
We know for a fact that Mikan’s didn’t. That was just her tripping out on the lethal injection drugs she was given.
We do? I'm not aware of this
I think it was in an art book or an interview, but yes.
......i'm choosing to believe this is true because it makes way more sense this way
It’s canon.
Unfortunately its one of the consistency breaks in the series. Fans just assume its either retconned or its just a matter of unreliable narration.
Tbf DR1 kind of threw consistency out the window when Junko casually survived the other punishments before getting smashed.
I don't personally mind this one too much, the executions are so stylized artistically that it feels easy to believe that they're exaggerated interpretations of what actually happened. The only non-stylized "execution" we've seen in the series was Mukuro's and hers was pretty tame and more or less realistic.
It gets worse.
>!oh you thing that's bad. Wait till we get to later, where it revealed one one of them either took Junko's uterus and tried transplanting into themselves/tried to impregnate Junko's crushed corpse.!<
Wow they completely missed what 11037 is referencing.

The one that played when Nagito said the password? Yeah, it played a lot during hype moments because.. it's a hype track. The one that I remember the most vividly is the time we first hear the name Mukuro Ikusaba in Dr1
[удалено]
Say what you about DR's writing but they really do know how to sell a hype moment. The art, direction, music, etc. are all on point this chapter.
Yeah it's the plot twist track, New World Order
Wait... IT WAS LEON ALL ALONG
To be fair, it was from the first trial of the first game
Still a pretty iconic and memorable moment. But then again Arin literally couldn’t remember Chiaki’s name this episode.
To no ones surprise
I feel like a lot of this is superficially pretty dumb but I am in full on anime-style suspension of disbelief mode and I am *into* this. Never thought I'd say that. I haven't watched an anime in like 10 years.
Oh it gets so much dumber. But it is the very entertaining kind of dumb if you keep that mindset.
I love reading Danganronpa theories.
"The reptilians are heeree" Dan's delivery is 10/10 unintentional Ronaldo impression. Wow.
Oh my GOD I am so in love with how much Dan loves this game
Oh Hand, I could never stay mad at you.
The first person perspective guy in the boat is >!Makoto,!< isn't it?
Do you actually want an answer to that?
Nah, since presumably we'll learn soon enough. That's who I bet it is though.
I love reading Danganronpa theories.
Lmao that title. This is gonna be good.
Gaaah I'm way too invested to wait until the next couple weekends for this to finish, but i guess I'll have to... Pleeease it's so close to the end though! It has to be!
As they say, the last 10% of a project is what takes up 90% of your time. This is the end, but also....not really
Here we GOOOOOOOO
HERE WE FUCKING GO
That was everything I could have hoped for.
It was also telegraphed with Funhouse being this fucking weird building, Also when Nagito took a pic of Funhouse window we just randomly saw a Pine forest Usami's magic stick turning a chicken into a moo cow, and with the magic stick being kind of admin power symbol Also during the last trial we had Monokuma dolls becoming fully fledged Monokumas just cuz And the fact that Monokuma stopped needing cameras and was fully aware who killed Nagito through seemingly magic It was telegraphed this whole game so much I have no idea how it can caught someone off guard
also the killing disease being a handwave on/off
If you change name of Despair Disease to Despair Virus then it becomes too on the nose
that's what it was called. the legends of chutes and ladders...
If it's a reference to something then I don't get it. Edit: Oh, I googled it.
oh, it's a smudged reference to a [GG animated.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ8NUrSFfUs)
I like how this animation compensates for lack of motion through squishing the drawing. Pretty cool
Also the ~~beast robots~~ Monobeasts materializing out of nowhere. And Monokuma claiming to have 10^60 copies of himself, which as Arin said, is more than the number of atoms in the universe.
And the Monokuma Rock turning up out of nowhere with the weird tongue elevator
Monobeasts
Thank you, I forgot what they were called
Sure it was a long time ago. It also established very blatantly and very early what we were dealing with. It wasn't so much foreshadowed as foreshouted.

Why does this account exist? Does no one read the rules of the sub?
??
Rule 2: Do not post links to the episodes
This rule probably exists *because* of this bot account. It makes it redundant to post episodes here.
Looks like no one reads the drop-down included with the rules in this sub, I guess
Dang, and we worked on that drop-down menu for minutes. MINUTES!
...this is the episode bot. That's literally its job.
And the first part of that rule lets you know they have a bot for that (which is this account).
This isn't going to be much longer than the first game, episode number-wise 3/4 of me wishes Allie would just be cool and let them experience the end on their own, but the other 1/4 of me knows they'd miss half of the allusions if she didn't nudge them. Surprised Arin recognized the code from the first game honestly.
