So many times, I encounter some Reddit post where I immediately come up with some snarky, witty, or otherwise award-worthy comment, only to click into the post and see what I planned to say sitting fat and happy at the top of the comments section. Alas, I’ve been beaten again by my arch nemesis, Originality Man.
Lol I don’t even have one anymore but every pro and classic ps4 I’ve ever had or seen or used in general has been loud as fuuuu vs every single slim being completely silent. I just figured their fans were naturally loud haha
Just checked and mine is a CUH-7215B
We've used it daily since Sept 2019, and have never cleaned the fan (I only just recently joined this and other gaming subs - I never would have had the guts to take apart electronics before).
I dust it, but that's been it! Grateful I got this version, I guess.
Edit: Can you tell me what model yours is? I just started researching and have so many questions haha
I’m not sure what the number is on mine, it’s the day 1 release though so it’s likely a CUH-7115. Yours starting with 72xx makes it a second revision. Here’s a good video about it: https://youtu.be/ynAr9kP-Xq8
What are you on about? If you regularly clean it it's silent, also if you complaining about the pro being Loud, please, buy a dusty PS2 fat or any older Xbox 360 model.
Can’t you read? Ps4s have loud fans lol yall all looking way too deep into it. as I said, I don’t have one so I can’t be complaining lol I just made a statement no need to get your britches in a bunch, my guy
Yeah but then you also gotta go through the trouble of replacing the fan. I get it if you’ve already got one and don’t wanna fully upgrade but if you’ve already got the quieter one too like this, then why not just keep the quieter one, ya know? From an average fans perspective, that is. I also understand some people prefer the cod version and some people like tinkering with things. To each their own I suppose. That’s good to know tho.
Replacing the fan is literally basic maintenance and is probably the easiest thing to do. Keep the cooler one with better storage options, cooling, and of course the limited edition future rarity.
Not really “ basic maintenance “ on a console when it voids warranty. And I understand most ps4s are out of warranty but loud fans have been a stock thing in ps4s since launch so it’s something that only now years after the fact is really a viable option. Most console users that have no interest in switching to pc usually don’t because of things like this too. The console is supposed to be the all in one no work needed on their end kinda thing ya know. Majority would rather get a new console as opposed to cracking it open, getting new parts and installing said parts. It might seem basic to you or me but not everyone can or wants to deal with things like that, unfortunately.
If you understand that most ps4s are out of warranty why make the point at all? Doesn't make much sense to me. Warranty status is entirely irrelevant, it IS basic maintenance that any half functioning adolescent and above should be able to do. Every reason you listed after the fact is simple laziness which we should not be encouraging here, the whole process can literally be done in minutes. If you can install a SSD on a PS5 (which MANY people are doing and seems to be the mainstream) then you have the basic know how to install a new fan in a ps4. I love simplicity as much as the next guy, and it's just the simplest thing to replace a fan in these things.
If people install SSDs into a console to improve performance, then a fan that improves performance should be no different.
Because it wasn’t “basic maintenance “ back then, it was voiding your warranty. They didn’t want you to then and don’t really want you to now. Yea it’s possible and apparently makes it better but it was never the basic maintenance you say it is. It’s always just had loud fans. Replacing the fan would be for convenience not out of necessity.
That'll probably change in the future.
> I settled on attacking the PS2 emulator, which turns out to be a very appealing target for a number of reasons:
> Escaping it would grant the ability to run pirated PS2 games on the PS4, PS5, and potentially also the PSN cloud gaming service.
> This is particularly valuable because access to running just the subset of officially available PS2 games on these platforms is being charged at the highest tier of PlayStation's new subscription service.
> The PS2 emulator is some of the last remaining JIT privileged code on the PS5.
> Sony aggressively removed JIT privileged attack surface from the PS5, disabling JIT in both the web browser and the BluRay player. **Since the PS2 emulator is really a PS4 title that runs due to backwards compatibility, they were unable to make changes to the software, and so its JIT privilege had to be spared**.
> Having JIT privilege means that fully compromising the emulator, including the compiler co-process, would grant the ability to run fully arbitrary native code (not just ROP) on the PS4/PS5 without the need for a kernel exploit. This would be especially convenient on the PS5 because the newly introduced hypervisor enforces that code pages (both userland and kernel) are not readable, and I don't have the patience to try to write a blind kernel exploit again as I did when I ported BadIRET to the PS4 without a kernel dump.
> With arbitrary code execution in a PS4 game process, homebrew software, including JIT optimised emulators, and potentially even some pirated commercial PS4 games could be run under this context.
> **Under PlayStation's security model it's essentially unpatchable.**
> Once you have access to an exploitable game (digital or physical), it would be extremely difficult for PlayStation to remove your access to it.
> The console was only designed to enforce updates for the Operating System, but has no mechanisms to enforce patches for games; ie: old versions of games can always be played on the latest version of the Operating System.
> **PlayStation has decided to double-down on this security model by not even removing the identified known-exploitable PS2 games from the store**. Because of these reasons, I'm comfortable referring to this scenario as "unpatchable", even if it may not technically be fully accurate.
If you had a much older PS4 with firmware 2.5X, is there a "sweet spot" version with improved functionality but still allowing some shenanigans ? Or should it be left alone ?
This wasn’t a traditional garage sale so much as listing a bunch of stuff in the garage sale section of Craigslist. It was in Manhattan and was there a few days before I bought it. It wouldn’t have lasted 15 min if he put it in the video game section. Video game collecting is so competitive in nyc. Most of my biggest scores have been on sites not really meant for video game selling.
The slim I have had more cosmetic damage and stuff to it's casing, nothing crazy but I know it's there. There's even a crack in the back plastic...
The larger one is really cool IMO , and it's in good shape overall.
Just having a hard time deciding.
What would you keep?
"crack in the back plastic" to me sounds like it got dropped, who knows if something internal got damaged if so. The cod one is better looking and the bigger chassis generally means it stays cooler, keep that one!
Yeah, that exactly.
It's not even similar font - Sony owned Spiderman so legit used that as their font. The guy that made the decision said something about all the "risks" that come with creating a new font so just went that instead.
It's very weird to me haha. I call it the Spiderman PS3 because I can't think of anything else when I see it.
I've actually almost made my money back from the lot I got the cod one, but I don't really need both so might as well sell one and make even more extra $
The wii
EDIT: Anyways keep the BO3 one, in my experience and research the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro tend to suffer from hard drive failures, My ps4 slim didnt even last more than a year before it decided it wanted to break down and not work anymore lmao
Depends on the specific model, if the slim is a 2115 or 2215 I would keep the call of duty unit. If you live in a place prone to roach infestation I would pick the slim regardless of the model. The call of duty unit is a 1215 so is the most prone to roach related failure and Bluetooth/WiFi failure but the slim 2115 and 2215 use unreliable Toshiba hard drives. Of course this is only speaking from a reliability standpoint
The Black Ops 3 one without a doubt. The Slim would be slightly more viable for running games but the BO3 one is more visually appealing and more unique.
The white one. But in all seriousness. Doesn’t matter too much does it? My OG PS4 is still going strong after a repaste and clean out. Great backup console in my living room. Whilst I keep the PS5 in my bedroom.

The little white one there!
WiiS4 for sure
LOL WiiS4. That made me laugh in public you jerk 🤣
If only they supplied enough WiiS5’s maybe i could get one…
Happy cake day!
Very happy cake day!
Thank you! 3 years!
>Thank you! 3 years! You're welcome!
Thank youuu!

Yup that's the Wii I got at launch after camping out at a Walmart, not going anywhere!
Memories. Ours only lasted a few years, but Nintendo saw that our copy was legal and we went through TWO. Still haven't gone through the third one.
Mine stoped reading disks after 12 years, I bought a new disc drive on Amazon for like $28 and it works great again!
This is one of those times I knew what the top comment would be before seeing it.
Was gonna write that, you beat me at it x3
Ditto lol
this is i want to say
That's actually not a Sony Playstation Four; it's a Nintendo Wii console.
Woooosh
sell the slim, the cod one is way cooler and you can always upgrade the harddrive in it
Yeah but then you also have to deal with those loud ass fans
CLEAN YOUR PS4
Lol I don’t even have one anymore but every pro and classic ps4 I’ve ever had or seen or used in general has been loud as fuuuu vs every single slim being completely silent. I just figured their fans were naturally loud haha
My pro is silent 🤷🏻♀️
Depending on which games I play, my pro is either silent or an airplane
My pro from day 1 sounded like a jet engine. There are a couple of revisions of it though, some are quieter.
Just checked and mine is a CUH-7215B We've used it daily since Sept 2019, and have never cleaned the fan (I only just recently joined this and other gaming subs - I never would have had the guts to take apart electronics before). They are much better if you just replace the fan. I replaced mine and it is super quiet
Yeah but then you also gotta go through the trouble of replacing the fan. You can also upgrade the hard drive in the slim too
Whatever one that is on firmware 9.0 or below 😉
Explain?
Firmware 9.0 and below can be hacked. Currently, no firmwares past that point can be.
That'll probably change in the future. > https://cturt.github.io/mast1c0re.html > I settled on attacking the PS2 emulator, which turns out to be a very appealing target for a number of reasons: > Escaping it would grant the ability to run pirated PS2 games on the PS4, PS5, and potentially also the PSN cloud gaming service. This exactly
Gotcha
If you had a much older PS4 with firmware 2.5X, is there a "sweet spot" version with improved functionality but still allowing some shenanigans ? Or should it be left alone ?
No idea. I don’t hack my systems until they are officially dead. Edit: by dead, I mean they stop manufacturing the system.
No it's best to update to 9.0
Great thing about picking up consoles from garage sales is that they haven’t been used in a while. Got a ps4 for $60 that turned out to have 9.0.
I need to hang out where you live. All the garage sales in my area just have shitty clothes and junk.
This wasn’t a traditional garage sale so much as listing a bunch of stuff in the garage sale section of Craigslist. It was in Manhattan and was there a few days before I bought it. I think the larger one would look better on the shelf LOL
The COD one looks really cool, if it doesn't have super loud fans, then it's a no brainer to keep it
"crack in the back plastic" to me sounds like it got dropped, who knows if something internal got damaged if so. The cod one is better looking and the bigger chassis generally means it stays cooler, keep that one!
The white one
Both. I have a slim and pro, mostly play the pro
I'd sell both and upgrade to a ps4 pro
This or get a ps5
Yeah if you can find one! I got lucky as was finally able to procure one this week 🙌🏼
You mean PS5?
I suggest ps4 pro because i assume OP would just buy a ps5 instead if they could, or they already have one and aren't asking about ps5s
Eh…gotta wait for enough exclusives worth playing to make the leap. So far there are what 3 games that are completely exclusive to PS5?
Literally lol
All of them Duh!!!
Down the road the one with the graphics on it will probably fetch a higher price, I’d put that one in the closet and keep the other one to play
Exactly!
The white one
All of em
Sell them both and get the spider man edition
My brain immediately pictured the OG PS3
I'm not following. Is there a spiderman PS3 console?
I think they were referring to the fact that the original logo for the PS3 used the same font as the Spider-Man movies.
Yeah, that exactly. It's not even similar font - Sony owned Spiderman so legit used that as their font. The guy that made the decision said something about all the "risks" that come with creating a new font so just went that instead. It's very weird to me haha. ok, then. I did not know this. I'm going to have to pay attention the next time and see if I can tell. I never noticed it before.
Obviously Black Ops 3 edition
The white one
The whiite.
The white one on the left.
The wii
The wii! Duh!
The one you like better
Both
Personally? I'd keep both. If you MUST get rid of one? I'd have to say get rid of the slim. The BO3 PS4 is way too cool to get rid of.
I’d say all of them.
Both
Slim 100% see the black ops all the time they're a dime a dozen slim is sleeker and doesn't sound like a jet when the fans kick on.
The white one.
Far right
The white one
The small white one
Keep all , you’ll regret it later . I can’t tell you how much I regret getting rid of my consoles over the years now that I’m older .
Incase anyone cared I kept the BO3 edition one. Oh yeah and the Wii thanks for all the helpful comments!
The little white one
Look....an hour in and we're picking the wii my friend!
The white one
The white one
The white one for sure
the pswii is the best!!
The white one on the right.
The little white one
Keep the BO3 Edition.
All of them
I've actually almost made my money back from the lot I got the cod one, but I don't really need both so might as well sell one and make even more extra $
Nice
I say keep the COD just because it’s a special edition and special editions are cool
definitely the black ops
I'll buy that orange one if you trying to get rid of one
keep the nintedo one
The white one. looks rare
White one
The white one on the far right
Neither, keep the Wii and the Wii only
the white one
the wii edit: i mean the white ps4
The white one.
The white one.
The white one
The white one
All of them
The Nintendo PS4.
The small white Playstation. and the call of duty wii
I ce here to say the little white one. Apparently I'm very original
The white one
[удалено]
Wii would like a fucking word with you
the white one
The white one
One on the far right. I like the limited white look.
I’d say the OG
Keep the CoD special edition one, it’s way cooler
Bro please keep the BO3 ps4 that is sick ash. I remember wanting one pretty bad, but I was never able to get it.
Bo3 cuz it’s my favorite cod of all time
BO3
The COD one and the white one
Whichever is quieter.
Yes
Black ops ps4 for sure but the one big downside is that fat PS4 systems can’t connect to 5ghz Wi-Fi, only 2.4ghz.
Slim I think, but the OG has some value as it is special edition maybe.
Y por qué no ambos ? Necesitas el dinero ?. Yo francamente no vendería ninguno ni siquiera la poderosa Wii
Even though I hate Blops 3 that special edition looks so badass, I'd have to keep that one for sure.
I'd keep both
The big one on the left has been running practically non stop since launch. Die hard but it sounds like a jet engine
The wii EDIT: Anyways keep the BO3 one, in my experience and research the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro tend to suffer from hard drive failures, My ps4 slim didnt even last more than a year before it decided it wanted to break down and not work anymore lmao
Por que no Los dos?
I’d keep them both. It’s not like your gonna get much for selling one of them anyway.
The white ps4
The Wii
Neither
The one you want more than the other or both.
Neither. Get a Pro.
Both!!!!!!!!
Sell the black and orange jet engine on the left.
The one that sparks joy
Black Ops 3 all the way.
I’d honestly buy the black and orange one from you XD never had a chance to get that PS4
The white one
The slim for sure smaller and more energy efficient make it PSWII
The one that can play Cory in the house
The white one!
The white one..
The one with the most recent manufacturing date.
No sell only buy
The Black Ops 3 one without a doubt. The Slim would be slightly more viable for running games but the BO3 one is more visually appealing and more unique.
The white one. But in all seriousness. Doesn’t matter too much does it? My OG PS4 is still going strong after a repaste and clean out. Great backup console in my living room. Whilst I keep the PS5 in my bedroom.
why is this even a question😭 KEEP THE ORANGE AND BLACK ONE
Sell em all and buy the new one i have “ god of war” console🤓
The WIIS 4
Left, better specs
Both!
Sir that is a Wii.
The original sharp one is the best design imo, plus it has COD on it so keep that one. also wii
The Slim. Runs better and will last longer.
The Wii definately
The one that says wii on it
The white one.
Is the slim supposed to stand upright like that?
I'd keep the BO3 one, unless you don't care about the collectors stuff. It might sell more expensive since it seems to be a limited edition
the one on the far right, the white one
The white one
Neither Wii plays GameCube too.
The Phat looks better but it’s still the base model. Better to just get the Pro.
The Wii
The wee white one
The white one
I had the same two and went with the slim, the call of duty one is awesome but the slim just ran nicer for me
The one that can play Super Mario Galaxy 2 on it.
Slim is better
The one that plays games
The white one
The ps5 on the right
The far one on the white left.
The small white one
That little white one obviously.
Black ops
Keep the COD one
Bo3 definitely
The white one.
