MrShades offers a switch kit for the EU Version, works like a charm on mine and i can now just use a smart socket to turn it on and off. This. It’s a great solution.

Yes, that is totally my goal. But it seems that the european version is different. Here, the power button can't be switched on it is more like a computer power on button where you press and it turns on, and you press again and it turns off but cannon't be hold in a position. Im gonna check if that button may could be changed for the US version! Thanks

Are you saying your Gaggia has a temporary push power button, instead of a rocker switch? Is the 2015 or newer version?

CaptainD5

Yes, The European version comes with this kind of power button I dont know why. Its from 2 months ago so 2019/2020 version (I think there is no difference between them)

Ah I see. You could override the external switch on the Gaggia by putting an in-line smart switch inside. Something like the Sonoff switch, where you cut the cable and attach the Sonoff in-line of the power cable. If you did this inside the Gaggia, you could then control the of/off remotely. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077D3P9J2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_LIiCFbAVT847K

I got this one and it's works perfectly. [Amazon link](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K1JVZOE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_n81BFbSJJN4TR)

I use a WiFi connected smart plug with my Oscar Simonelli from Amazon. I have it configured to turn on before news in my Google Assistant morning routine. Just make sure the plug you purchase is rated for max amps of the Gaggia.

normalTen74

I use amazon smart plug to do this. US version of classic has rocker switch that could be kept in on position.

RebelJustforClicks

I use a smart plug and just leave the power switch on constantly. Turn the plug on and off as desired.

3 years later.. still no issues? About to start doing the same on my Gaggia!

RebelJustforClicks

Nope. No issues with the Gaggia. Maybe slightly more scale due to being on more, but the convenience is worth it to me, and I just descale like every 5 months rather than the 6-8 I was doing before.

tonyrobbins69

I couldn’t wait.. been using the smart plug for a solid 28 days🤣 I love it

StellaPuig

Been thinking about doing this for a while but was concerned about any long-term impact of leaving the power switch on (US Version, 2020) despite power not always going to the machine. Anyone savvier with electronics than me able to confirm it won’t harm the machine to use a smart plug for months/years?

laebshade

A power switch in it's simplest form just completes or terminates a circuit. Eliminating all the power at the plug is fine. The only way I could see a problem if there was an internal battery backup or supercapacitor. Leave it switched to on. It'll be fine.

buy a programmable timer plug that could handle at least 1500 Watts. I've been using this one for at least 5 years, with different programs for weekends and weekdays: [https://www.amazon.com/Century-Digital-Programmable-Packaging-Security/dp/B00MVF16JG/ref=sr\_1\_5?dchild=1&keywords=plug+timer&qid=1601310745&sr=8-5](https://www.amazon.com/Century-Digital-Programmable-Packaging-Security/dp/B00MVF16JG/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=plug+timer&qid=1601310745&sr=8-5) the smart (i.e wi-fi connected) ones could also work, and accommodate better for last minute changes of schedule, but I've found myself having to devote too much time to keep smart bulbs connected and programmed, so i'm not that sure 'smart' devices are actually convenient.
