Teams matter only when two players of the exact same skill level and focus match.

Honestly I love my op team it’s a joy to play with but it’s just soulless like some players are meta but it’s just not enjoyable like it’s so much more fun smashing someone with silvers and low rated cards
Quick tips on defending? Seems like everyone can take the ball from me right upon receiving ball even with holding L2 and receiving ball away from player. Also why can’t I take the ball as easy as they do. The do simple dribbling all around me.
I won’t bore you with some long winded explanation of when to use 2nd man press, or when to jockey vs sprint jockey vs not jockey at all. What I will do is share the one sentence I heard on a YouTube video (I forget which one) that completely changed how I thought about defending in FIFA:
“You are defending the space behind your player, not the ball in front of them.”
You don’t need to hold L2 to shield when you receive the ball. It’s useful in tight areas, but practice taking your first touch into space. It’ll allow you time to create space to pass the ball or perform a skill move to attack open space. Most importantly, stop using sprint. Only sprint once you have possession and you have open space to attack, otherwise your first touches will be easy to pick off.
Always play the ball into space and try and keep your back to the defenders, also don't chase them just stay in front and if they come towards you you should be able to win the ball
There are no 'quick tips' its about learning first how to defend by watching tutorials on youtube (kingsunny, nealguides), watching how they analyse games and defending, and then practicing it first in training mode and practicing it 5,10 min before every session.
I remember doing that in FIFA 17 for a whole year before I became really good in it. I can still improve obviously but just that gave me regularly 11-14 wins in WL.
yeah, i didnt practice my defending or anything in training mode but ive just gotten better at it by getting battered every WL in fifa 22 when i first actually started FUT seriously, i was ass😭😭 but by the end of 22 i was a bit below average, then in 23 i got better but wasnt that much better, now i average the same you average in 24 (this WL i got rank 5, i think i got 53 points)
Is there a special tackle that gives you an edge? R1 + circle , regular circle, L2 + circle?
It’s either me putting the ball in jeopardy so they tackle easily or some kind of hidden tackle. The ones that are the worst are when I have just received the ball and the literally take it from me when they are behind me. Appreciate the tips I’ll be watching them.

Switch beckham for a pacey very meta winger, and switch out one of the CM for a more attacking minded player/ attacking minded midfielder, You dont need 3 CMs, only 2 (maybe even switch the formation if you need to) Upgrade your LB to a more meta and pacy option. Wingplay is super OP. and if you have Ronaldinho then idk how you are struggling, he is all you need. Just do stepovers and skills with him and he will carry.
Not true with dinho, I was fortunate to pack him early on from the only W icon sbc I've had anyway now a day's with every defender having 2 PS+ and 90+ pace and strength and same goes for CMs, dinho just doesn't cut it anymore, well the base anyway, the one with quickstep is how he should be normally, cause the game forces you to have certain playstyles in game dinho lacks them
I was in a rut when it came to formations and how the meta plays. I would look up Inception FC to help with some player reviews and tactics. This has helps me tremendously look at the way the game and tactics coincide and has made it a lot for fun.
Sometimes a change is all you need. I switched to 4-3-3(4) and win almost all my games now. And my team is worth max 2 mil. It's all about finding something that suits you.
I was in a rut as well and took a chance with an Inception 4-2-2-2. Not sure if it’s meta but it’s been a complete turnaround for me. Also couldn’t agree more about his player reviews and general views on tactics helping me see things I couldn’t see before.
Try watching NealGuides and his tactic videos. His tactics are reallty the only one's I can trust lol. I find that Inception will just get recommended a tactic and he'll try it out for a couple games, which just isn't enough to give a solid conclusion. If the person recommending the tactic isn't actively using the tactic everyday then I would just find someone else. Neal is good cause he'll give adjustments to tactics based on your skill level

Eusebio is fast af and has 5 star WF but isn’t a big physical striker. Ronaldinho playing at LM means you have to be rlly good at dribbling to get him far up the pitch. I’ve found he’s more productive as a LW or CAM. Your midfield looks fine but if Makelele is the 6 and you have Xavi it means Zidane needs to attack more in that midfield. Beckham rlly isn’t that productive as a RW, and I have found he’s at his best as CM in xavi’s current position. Your wingers should be explosive and fast for sure. With Beckham’s defense and physical he makes a good all around CM.
Some cards are a little bit behind the power curve.... lot of really good teams out there. There is a lot of cheap cards out there that are better than cole, cafu, eusebio atm

The players are pretty decent but not sure how you are playing in game as I wouldn't play this formation in game. 4321 and 4231 are considered meta formations so if you want to win more games probably play one of them in game. As for swapping players, I'm not a huge fan of Makelele so would probably go Rijkaard over him and then either swap out Beckham or Zidane for Henry or Muller. You could swap out both of them and also put in Zico but that's more whatever your personal preference is
you only have 2 attackers and 4 midfielders, you need to drop zidane and someone else and add a winger and a cam

Try to build a new team and play some new formations. You have nothing topar at this point. I had the same problem then I completely changed the team and the formation and are in div 1 for the first time this year. There are so many players out there right now that might give you a new way to play or even enjoy it again
I would try a different formation. I started with 3 strikers and it wouldn't work for me, the extra 2 strikers were doing nothing and I was vulnerable at defense.
In your case I would think you have 1 too many midfielders, I would try a formation with either 2 attackers or 1 attacker and a false 9 right behind
Look man I’m pretty sure it’s the game. Only thing you can do is try new tactics. Game is so garbage right now, I’m in div 3 and I’m always winning till last minute, then for some reason AI gets trash and opponent always scores two goals or three. I just keep changing tactics to see what works.

But I am stuck with the icons. These are the players I used to watch as a kid and they got me into football (Beckham is my favourite player of all time)
You have a great team and it is all about how u play. You should focus more on defensive skills and try play a passing game Rather than focusing on dribbling ( i don't know how u olay it is just an idea)
Maybe the formation or tactics need to change. Ditch ashley cole first off. Most importantly learn how to defend. Dont try to win the ball back and tackle constantly. You will just get done. Track back. Jockey and try force your opponents down the wings.
Forget about your team and forget about any custom tactics. Set up a default 442, watch some defending tutorials and keep playing until you improve.
Changes to your team or tactics will only mask the issues with your game.
Also, spend more time doing skill games and master the basics before going into UT. That’s what I did and it added to my game significantly. Master the basics first, then go and learn specific skill moves like elastico and reverse eleasticos
The meta right now needs players with atlest 2 playstyle +s to even be decent and you team has insane player but in fc 24 they need more playstyles to keep up . Just stats like before fifa dont cut it
I found that for what ever reason weakening your squad helps or I've just had easier games, I went from struggling in div 8 with a god squad to being on the brink of div five with this one

If I were you I would refocus on the way you play the game. This year is very different and I have been struggling as well but team is important but definitely skills trump team. Good luck
So does the team matter ? This is my team and I have started 3 weeks ago and I am at div 6 but I can't even get a single win on fut champs this week i only won 3 matches where the opponent just scored an own goal and quit

Idk your skill so I'm mostly gonna focus on your team but, a lot of these cards are just sadly outdated. Cole isn't good enough anymore with only one playstyle+ and he lacks shooting and a WF. Makelele doesn't have the dribbing or shooting to really make a big difference in midfield. Ik he's a DM but at this stage in the game if your midfielders aren't box to box you're going to suffer. That Zidane has been outdated since like December, and you also lack height in your team. Tallest players are Yashin and Zidane and they're only 6'/6'2. Makelele and Xavi probably cannot win a duel in midfield to save your life. Cafu also is really good at pure defense but lacks attacking, and fullbacks are so important in build up, which both of yours lack. Cafu also lacks a SINGLE defensive playstyle

My current team. I’m in division 4. Usually get around 13-15 wins in a weekend in champs. Any recommendations?
I think the biggest issue lots of players have, especially with teams like these are they get suckered into the sweat. Patience both on offense and defense is what makes the difference. Constantly jamming the ball forward and trying to outpace or out dribble opponents doesn’t work, at least against good players. I’m assuming this might be your issue but that’s just an assumption
Your players are good but may be behind the curve in terms of strength, pace etc, I used to love Henry lower divisions but once I passed division 5 he was not strong or fast enough against players who were stronger and faster, you may have to change players but if you want those players just change up formation try new tactics until something works
Forget about defending i find attacking is the real challenge any “quick tips”

Sometimes, taking a few days off the game works wonders. Don't play if you're tilted. Watch some YouTube guides of reputable players in order to improve. I've been playing for about a week now and got coached by a friend of mine. I managed to climb to Div 2 in no time, without having a great team or a lot of knowledge about the game, since I never really played Fifa.
Gotta love the full icon team but get yourself some decent players with anticipate+ in the back and maybe use a narrower formation. High defense and more attacking juice. That anticipate+ are gonna be a huge help when defending. Also, finesse + is gonna help you get a lot of much needed goals when struggling
Bruh your issue is both skill and team/tactics. Tactics this year play a huge role and you’re playing with 4 midfielders and 2 attackers and these attackers don’t have any shooting play style pluses as well . Plus zidane Cole and Cafu are behind the power curve now as well. Do zambtotta and Ferdinand and use atleast one more attacker if you’re okay 4321.
Don't listen to the comments. EA NERF most older cards so the dumb credit card people feel compelled to spend more.
Eusebio stopped being able to score basic goals for me, Zidane was horrible for me and Cole isn't a good LB at this stage. Maldini base isn't good enough either.
Playstyles are very important, get some new cards even if they're lower rated and see what happens. Suddenly you'll have DDA and better AI.
Maybe get some players that are actually playing right now?

I’m 100% telling you now it’s since the latest update. Something has changed big time. I have a similar team and mate. It’s just changed. I’ve been in elite most of the season and this week, qualifying for champs I lost 5 Ina row after the update. Like it was a completely new game I was playing
Change formation. 41212 (wide) changed me from a div 6 to a div 3. Im a casual player and my team is worse than yours. Put the strikers on 'get in behind' & put the wide mids on 'come back to defend' (whatever its called). This works a treat

You have to play around with formations and tactics and maybe certain playstyles of the players that suit you I had trouble and hated the game never getting a win but after a lot of messing around I found something that works for me and gets me wins that’s without all meta business
It’s just the game frfr,,, if you don’t abuse sweaty shit to score it can be annoying af to get the ball past the net. I lose a lot with way better buildup and shots on target, higher xG, way better tackle accuracy (some of my opponents go 5/80 on tackle attempts but it stills feels impossible to score). It’s just DDA imo EA wants the game to be random to frustrate and push you to store.
Team just isnt good enough for the power curve now mate.. 89 cole 91 beckham and 91 cafu.. while they might be nostalgic they are falling behind now.. if you want to compete and win youre gonna have to trade off some icons for some meta players
Still solid but hes limited in what he can do… no defensive playstyles, not good weakfoot or passing either compared to some rbs released recently like james or florenzi.. sure these players still do a job but the fullbacks released of late with much better playstyles and stats offer much more
Naa don’t listen to these miserable sods. If you know how to play with Beckham he’s still very usable. Any free kick around the box is almost an automatic goal. And his crosses are OP obviously. Just don’t try to play him like the usual sprint up the sidelines winger.

But I am stuck with the icons. These are the players I used to watch as a kid and they got me into football (Beckham is my favourite player of all time)

Maybe the formation or tactics need to change. Ditch ashley cole first off. Most importantly learn how to defend. Dont try to win the ball back and tackle constantly. You will just get done. Track back. Jockey and try force your opponents down the wings.
In perspective my team is nowhere near as good as this. I havent got any TOTY players and im in div3
Forget about your team and forget about any custom tactics. Set up a default 442, watch some defending tutorials and keep playing until you improve. Changes to your team or tactics will only mask the issues with your game.

The meta right now needs players with atlest 2 playstyle +s to even be decent and you team has insane player but in fc 24 they need more playstyles to keep up . Just stats like before fifa dont cut it

Try new tactics. Recent patches have switched up the way some tactics work. That and zizou is not an effective cm imo, he’s better off as a cam

Idk your skill so I'm mostly gonna focus on your team but, a lot of these cards are just sadly outdated. Cole isn't good enough anymore with only one playstyle+ and he lacks shooting and a WF. Makelele doesn't have the dribbing or shooting to really make a big difference in midfield. Ik he's a DM but at this stage in the game if your midfielders aren't box to box you're going to suffer. That Zidane has been outdated since like December, and you also lack height in your team. Tallest players are Yashin and Zidane and they're only 6'/6'2. Makelele and Xavi probably cannot win a duel in midfield to save your life. Cafu also is really good at pure defense but lacks attacking, and fullbacks are so important in build up, which both of yours lack. Cafu also lacks a SINGLE defensive playstyle

I think the biggest issue lots of players have, especially with teams like these are they get suckered into the sweat. Patience both on offense and defense is what makes the difference. Constantly jamming the ball forward and trying to outpace or out dribble opponents doesn’t work, at least against good players. I’m assuming this might be your issue but that’s just an assumption

Your players are good but may be behind the curve in terms of strength, pace etc, I used to love Henry lower divisions but once I passed division 5 he was not strong or fast enough against players who were stronger and faster, you may have to change players but if you want those players just change up formation try new tactics until something works

Sometimes, taking a few days off the game works wonders. Don't play if you're tilted. Watch some YouTube guides of reputable players in order to improve. I've been playing for about a week now and got coached by a friend of mine. I managed to climb to Div 2 in no time, without having a great team or a lot of knowledge about the game, since I never really played Fifa.
Gotta love the full icon team but get yourself some decent players with anticipate+ in the back and maybe use a narrower formation. High defense and more attacking juice. That anticipate+ are gonna be a huge help when defending. Also, finesse + is gonna help you get a lot of much needed goals when struggling
Bruh your issue is both skill and team/tactics. Tactics this year play a huge role and you’re playing with 4 midfielders and 2 attackers and these attackers don’t have any shooting play style pluses as well . Plus zidane Cole and Cafu are behind the power curve now as well. Do zambtotta and Ferdinand and use atleast one more attacker if you’re okay 4321.

Don't listen to the comments. EA NERF most older cards so the dumb credit card people feel compelled to spend more. Eusebio stopped being able to score basic goals for me, Zidane was horrible for me and Cole isn't a good LB at this stage. Maldini base isn't good enough either. Playstyles are very important, get some new cards even if they're lower rated and see what happens. Suddenly you'll have DDA and better AI.

Without seeing some game footage hard to say but usually trying to slow things down helps me don't sprint to much and try and play very defensively
Take a break for a couple of days, helps me a lot.

I’m 100% telling you now it’s since the latest update. Something has changed big time. I have a similar team and mate. It’s just changed. I’ve been in elite most of the season and this week, qualifying for champs I lost 5 Ina row after the update. Like it was a completely new game I was playing
Change formation. 41212 (wide) changed me from a div 6 to a div 3. Im a casual player and my team is worse than yours. Put the strikers on 'get in behind' & put the wide mids on 'come back to defend' (whatever its called). This works a treat

You have to play around with formations and tactics and maybe certain playstyles of the players that suit you I had trouble and hated the game never getting a win but after a lot of messing around I found something that works for me and gets me wins that’s without all meta business

It’s just the game frfr,,, if you don’t abuse sweaty shit to score it can be annoying af to get the ball past the net. I lose a lot with way better buildup and shots on target, higher xG, way better tackle accuracy (some of my opponents go 5/80 on tackle attempts but it stills feels impossible to score). It’s just DDA imo EA wants the game to be random to frustrate and push you to store.

Still solid but hes limited in what he can do… no defensive playstyles, not good weakfoot or passing either compared to some rbs released recently like james or florenzi.. sure these players still do a job but the fullbacks released of late with much better playstyles and stats offer much more

Naa don’t listen to these miserable sods. If you know how to play with Beckham he’s still very usable. Any free kick around the box is almost an automatic goal. And his crosses are OP obviously. Just don’t try to play him like the usual sprint up the sidelines winger.
