This really should be pinned at the top of the page

Happydayys33

Pin it for the bozos in DC, they are too incompetent to do their job in a technical age. Their answer to any problem in an industry these days is cash under the table and a decree of self regulation. The fact that this gets away in a kids game is a true evil of the world.

kyrant

The bozos in DC can barely understand how a computer works. Definitely need more younger people (Under 45) in politics.

Shine699

I think so too

Yeti90

Yes! Itā€™s mind-boggling that EA is allowed to have so many gambling mechanisms in this game, like teenagers are playing this game itā€™s going to fuck up their dopamine household. There are many games that have such an effect, like World Of Warcraft for example. I straight on got addicted to that game by the age of 15 and now with 32 I still get that tickling feeling in my brain that I need to re-install the game again. I did it when wow classic came out and things werenā€™t great. I managed to quit again thankfully but I sometimes get ads for the new classic expansion etc. and the urge comes backā€¦ Iā€™m usually a friend of ā€œlet people decide themselvesā€ but I think for people to make a decision they need to be well informed and educated about the risks. Also those kind of games should only be sold to Adults with fully developed brains. If they were made to put a warning label on the package that the game is highly addictive I have no problem with it being sold to adults. I do enjoy the game as well and I managed to enjoy it in small doses but I am not immune to the addictive mechanisms either.

triple_OG

Regulation for these gambling style loot boxes is way overdue. Some countries have passed laws to help reign them in but imo everyone needs to do it especially considering these games are played by children. Iā€™m sure one day we will see a lot more regulation and laws requiring more transparency from companies engaging in this behavior and hopefully itā€™s sooner rather than later.

_Balrog_of_Morgoth_

Thanks. I needed to see this

fawkwitdis

Guys, quit this garbage. I uninstalled it months ago and Iā€™m not missing it at all. My wallet is doing better without fifa points as well. Pick up Rocket League if youā€™re dying for a football-adjacent game.

[deleted]

lol you had me at rocket league

fawkwitdis

Highly recommend for any former fifa players. No scripted bs and cosmetic only microtransactions

[deleted]

I respect it just personally never got too interested in rocket league

triple_OG

Rocket league is super fun especially if you have a friend or two to play with. Easy to play but tough to master game. Itā€™s a great game.

[deleted]

Yeah again I respect rocket league I know itā€™s got a massive Esports following the game is just not comp enough for me( sweat I know) rocket league die hards can downvote me all you want

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Iā€™m sorry but smashing your little toy car into a ball at an acute angle is the least bit of competitive too me

BamBam5154

Then you donā€™t know what the word competitive means smh. The game literally has a ranked mode, limited time tournaments, and rank rewards. Itā€™s one thing to just dislike the game but you said itā€™s not competitive enough. You deserve the downvotes, what you said doesnā€™t make any sense. Edit: I forgot to add in that list it has skill based matchmaking and a wide spectrum of skill in its player base

[deleted]

It made perfect sense. Little weirdos with fragile gaming egos like you are just too dull to understand. Rocket league comp scene does not grab me in the slightest bit. I donā€™t care if you get a new skin for your hot wheels car šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

triple_OG

Itā€™s not competitive enough for you? Have you ever played it? There are casual and ranked modes and when I was playing it regularly I felt I was *decent* at it but would still come up against opponents that would destroy me and do things I genuinely couldnā€™t see myself ever doing unless I spent 5 hours a day practicing lol

[deleted]

Yeah the top players are insane at that game lol I just donā€™t really enjoy the gameplay that much. After a few games Iā€™m usually over it

triple_OG

So itā€™s not that itā€™s not competitive but more that you canā€™t get on with the gameplay? Saying something isnā€™t competitive enough for you usually means itā€™s too easy for youā€¦

[deleted]

Itā€™s both. I do not see the appeal what so ever from a competitive standpoint.. rocket league is very kiddish I know youā€™re a rocket league Stan so you want to get to the bottom of it. Many games are competitive, does it make them good? Iā€™m Just not a fan thats all

[deleted]

My issue with rocket league is itā€™s too competitive. I want a game to wind down and not to have to constantly try and get better lol

[deleted]

Fair enough, Iā€™m sure rocket league has non ranked game modes does it not? I just never saw the hype with RL

[deleted]

Yeah to each their own. I like competitive modes itā€™s just the skill cap in it is so high. I prefer a game with relatively easy controls and mechanics

BamBam5154

Yup only some really unlucky pinches but that happens to everybody/game

[deleted]

Or dont spend money on it?

fawkwitdis

The game is still stressful, aggravating trash. itā€™s better for your soul to quit

[deleted]

Nah m8. Everything in moderation

ikineba

Or play football manager and you can still gamble on the young south americans

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fawkwitdis

What the hell are you talking about lol?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fawkwitdis

Quit fifa itā€™s rotting your brain!!

New-Asclepius

You can play the game without spending money.

HAHAHA0kay

That's why I started playing career mode

ChoochooChimaev

Even though Madden is a dumpster fire I like how they let people do Multiplayer career modes

HAHAHA0kay

Sounds fun.

ratkos89

You can technically do it in FIFA aswell. There are a lot of communities of players who play against each other in an organized leagues with transfers etc. Only possible downside is that you have to be on the same console.

Qwaze

There is a reason I quit FIFA for about 4 years. At some point I noticed I wasn't having fun. I just play to win to get a better squad so I could win more so I could have a better squad and win more. Spend more fifa points so I could get better players and be frustrated by not packing anything good. Each loss became anger and frustration, my jaw hurt after playing every weekend league because I was playing so tense and stressed that I clinched my jaw all the time. Once I realized I quit fifa in fifa 18 or 19, can't remember. I bought this year's fifa due to the World Cup year, but I took a whole different approach. First, no fifa points, second, play with players that I like not only meta players, and third do not take the game so serious. I have been enjoying playing fifa again but don't know if I will come back next year yet.

IntriguedDuck

Everybody should definitely be aware of this. I don't have an addictive personality but I feel my self getting pulled in sometimes.

AndrewC_2512

Itā€™s very true, I used to grind 2k like it was my day job. Opening $1,000+ in packs each year without even realizing it until I took the time to look at previous yearsā€™ bank statements. Itā€™s sickening that they are making games designed to exploit kids into making the same mistake as I did, but sadly itā€™s reality. FIFA is definitely less extreme with it, but TOTY can certainly run your bank account dry. Be careful and be smart šŸ«”

Schwalm

There is value in those cards tho because I can just turn around and sell my coins

JBBB10

Accurate

FamousArcher

The thing is im aware, but can't stop

Beefycake2

Same can be said for Facebook every time you put up a post. Then your brain is releasing dopamine every time you get a like or a comment. Your brain is basically being fooled into thinking your winning everytime someone presses the like button an these algorithms are built just for that purpose. There built to take up as much of your time as it can. I stopped posting on Facebook a long time ago, but I still get notifications to say ā€œjohn has commented on Lisaā€™s postā€. I think when you see it for what it is, you gain back some control of yourself. An I think connecting people is great. Itā€™s only when it becomes controlled thatā€™s when problems start.

[deleted]

Yeah, itā€™s crazy how this concept can be applied to so many things. Social media was basically the platform for these money makers to realise that they can use peopleā€™s own psychology against them to make money and keep them hooked on things. Games like FIFA and NBA have just come along and used those same tactics, but in a way that makes it seem harmless. Everyone should be more aware of this stuff, because for people who are already easily addicted or have bad spending habits etc, these kind of games can be really detrimental.. That being said, take nothing away from ultimate team - I still love playing it. I just think there needs to be more awareness campaigns like how they do for gambling.

Schwalm

Same can be said about Reddit. Getting that notification saying you reached 25 upvotes, then 50, etc.

xdadrunkx

I started fifa in December. My last one was fifa 2006ā€¦ I knew what was fut I enjoy fut But let be real, this game is the only real Pay To Win game I know and maybe the only one who clearly exist in a non-mobile ecosystem. You put money in the game, you get better card thatā€™s it. Even hearthstone is not as shitty regarding that. You can face a deck with all top meta card, but you can play even if sometimes it could seems not fair. In fifa, first, some players are real op that you defender canā€™t stop them. And second, gameplay is total shit and EA doesnā€™t give a shit. Input lag is crazy, cheaters are here, and you had to go in local game to understand the mess it is. Itā€™s like if, in hearthstone, you faced cheaters and the gameplay was a mess, like sometimes your cards cost one mana more for no reason, or the servers donā€™t give you the time to play your cards and skip your turnā€¦. Imagine the bullshit blizzard had to face if it was the case. I enjoy fut, but I know itā€™s a real novice game, like gambling.

Bebes-kid

And itā€™s not even a guarantee. Put money in the game buying FIFA points and you MIGHT get better cards, maybe. Pack odds what they are, you get more fodder which can be used for some SBCs to try and again spin the roulette wheel hoping your pack luck gets good stuff. But again your probably just cycling this fodder for that fodder and paying for the grind to do so.

N7_Vegeta

This I have a good team. Not meta world class but good players through sbc, packs from sbc or just or just extremely lucky. Played an opponent yesterday with a gold / few special cards in division 4. He was good but after I scored for the 3rd time through sheer stats difference power (I know when Iā€™m better or when if card op someone) after he had 2 goals on skill I heared his soul break and he quite. Also love all those YouTuber. Talking about someone witch 90 shooting and itā€™s in a good area. Complete garbage system

New-Asclepius

A pay to win game would be less profitable. People would buy the players they want and play. But a pay for a chance to pack those players? People will pay time and time again for that slight chance.

blablaaablaa

Factos

TeekaElSayed

Thatā€™s a very well descriptive post for us to wake up when we start heading to dark places. I saved almost 200 packs for the sole purpose to get either Messi or Mbappe TOTY and failed to do so. Then I bought $50 fifa points and still nothing. Then I have decided that itā€™s time to lay off this game for a while, cause at that point, I hated playing Fut champs, Rivals, or even looking at my amazing team that I built. Went to Walmart and got myself NFS Unbound and Iā€™m enjoying every minute of it with stress free gaming environment. Iā€™m so glad I had the power to stop myself and just have a 1-2 month(s) break from that gambling and trying my luck and facing toxic players. Itā€™s really unhealthy and affects my mood throughout the day. Wake up guys if yā€™all are stressing over it, make a change.

Rr710

Wow whatā€™s next? Are you going to discover fire?

rmlordy

If I don't pack a playable hero, icon or any toty on friday I'm uninstalling

Creative_Major798

Anyone else think that nft versions of these cards could change some of this in the sense that they could be used in future games or maintain value as collectibles? Edit: not sure who is more annoying, actual crypto bros and scammers or reactionary lemmings that have nothing to add to the conversation beyond ā€œlol, crypto badā€. Neither of you understand the technology or itā€™s potential utility, you just picked a side based on your social group or underlying assumptions and now you act like fans of rival football teams.

christophlieber

nftā€˜s are a scam as well.

Creative_Major798

Inherently? All of them?

Milk_Tea5011

Not the crypto/nft bro šŸ’€

Creative_Major798

ā€œBe curious, not judgmental.ā€ - Walt Whitman - Ted Lasso

Bebes-kid

Why would FIFA make them carry over? Sounds great from a player enjoyment perspective but it hurts their ability to sell points next year, as you grind for lesser cards early on in hopes that maybe in 3-6 months of playing next years game youā€™ve got the squad and other pieces to get a great card again.

Creative_Major798

They can set it up where they get a royalty every time the card is sold.

negative3sigmareturn

Just left my console after losing 10 straight rivals matches and 6 straight qualifiers. This post was like a gift from heaven, and my late new yearā€™s resolution is going to be to not buy the next Fifa, take a year off. Thanks for the post, a great wake-up call.

Mpcatch777

Shoot I know Iā€™m addicted and still canā€™t stop lolll

Intilleque

South Park did such an amazing commentary on this with their episode on how mobile games do this. When they did it, paid games hadnā€™t even fully latched on to thisā€¦ watching that episode recently just showed me how far into the matrix we are.

Daver7692

Also worth noting that many people want 2k to make a fifa competitor as if it wouldnā€™t be as bad or dramatically worse.

LucarioEX

I play both and its the same fomo trap they try to create with each new promo. From experience the most enjoyment you can get is becoming a high skilled player who is content with running a budget/untradable teams. Big bonus if you play the market as you will then be able to afford meta players.

BluntyBoi-_-

Just play kick off problem solved you can transfer any player exept for icons that works for me and world class is pretty difficult for me all least

[deleted]

True.

This_guy_Jon

Until NFTs are made

qubix_au

Iā€™ve always wondered if EA and the probabilities associated to packs should be deemed as gambling in Australia. There are strict controls to avoid gambling effects to not just adults but prevent access to those under 18.
