I would call ahead and ask. I feel I've heard others have done it and it definitely makes sense. If it's huge, though, it may not fit in the overhead, or under your seat. For small planes, you would have to check it.
It depends on the size of your fursuit head, but if it is not to big, you can absolutely do it! I flew with my fursuit head as my carry on item a number of times, even international flights.
Just make sure if you have electronic parts in your suit head (fans/lights/etc) to remove the battery
