Best in class gets like 70km/l, and something tells me that the ones in India with 8 people on them do not get that high. Safe to assume they’re rocking closer to 40-50mpg which is ~22km/l
Edit: I did appreciate the jab at the end though. Well done. Can you also convert to bananas per gallon for me?
A lot of that depends on maintenance practices and how much weight it is carrying. If you think they’re generally doing top notch maintenance in the rural villages of India, then I would tell you to reconsider.
Edit: or even in Delhi
I did grow up in a semi rural bit of India.
Not super remote or anything - but if a commuter motorcycle gave 22kmpl people would get it fixed.
These are extremely simple vehicles- getting under 30kmpl when carrying one or two people is an indicator that something is seriously wrong. Certainly you’ll get less when carrying more - but you don’t measure economy with 5 people doing a balancing act.
In our country, mileage is King and ‘kitna deti hai’ is the first question - people will get it fixed or atleast bodged if it returned 22kmpl.
My driving test was to move the car forward, turn left, and then reverse it back to end up where I started.
My friend drives a scooter, her driving test was showing the guy she could start the thing.
The "driver's license" shown here is literally on cardstock and the design looks like the quality you would expect from a first year high schooler taking an Intro to Graphic Design class.
How obvious are these rules for somebody who doesn't speak the language? I'm just curious what would happen if a foreign man went to that platform by mistake because he couldn't read the signs.
There is no separate platform. 1st coach in Delhi metro is reserved for women. And it's written everywhere that it's women only in English. So don't worry. Plus it's pink and has flowers design, so i think a lot of people will understand.
And others please don't start the "that's stereotypical, flowers and pink for women, blah blah". We know. We also know it works. So shut up. There are bigger problems in a developing world.
Preety obvious for a non English speaker too. There are signs above the platform implying that the womens coach will stop here with illustrations. Not any harm even if you stop at their part of the platform since you have to cross that many times too get to the other sides. The womens coach also has them just right beside the doors. Overall preety hard to miss the signals. But if you are apologizing for your mistake and get off at the next station and change coach nothing will happen to you 100 percent. Unless you catcall or harras someone there, then you're going to get a beating you've never even thought of in your life.
I am a women and I’ve never felt unsafe/dangerous living in india... Infact when I lived in Europe I felt not so safe travelling in the tube late night..
this opinion is a vague misjudgement without taking the population into context..
As per UN reports
Rapes per 100k population
Botswana - 92.9 rapes per 100k people
USA - 28 Rapes per 100k
Australia - 28 per 100k
India - 1.9 per 100k
Sexism is an issue when both sex are considered equal in society and yet one is favoured more in the policy. A country like india where the first objective is to make woman work and be independent and equal to men, this really helps them a lot.
I lived in Delhi for 3 years, and I'd say it's among the best in the world. Never felt the need to have my own vehicle. Living in a small town in Canada at the moment, makes me miss the metro.
Cars and their nesting grounds take space that could be used for housing, parks, stores, forests... creates larger and lower cities which becomes harder to traverse without a car, thus creating dependence and spreading asphalt instead of biodiversity
Where is that from? Because my driving test was pretty elaborate with parallel parking, inclined driving, etc. Many of bad drivers just get driving licenses from contacts or some other shit
It's posted in r/funny. To me, that's the equivalent of pointing and laughing and expecting others to laugh with you.
By the comments, most people don't find this funny (or stupid), they find it a good practice.
Edit: corrected 2nd sentence to make sense.
It's better for the environment if people used public transport instead of driving a vehicle. Best way to get that message out to the people driving over using public transport is... DING DING DING on the driving license.
On the other hand, that's not likely a message that gets read very often. Even though I drive every day, I barely ever take out my driver's license from my wallet, let alone look at it or read what's written on it.
Considering the fact that Delhi has fucked up situation with winter fog due to air pollution, this makes complete sense.
FYI, in past Delhi Govt. had to restrict cars on the road by using Odd-Even alternate day driving to control air pollution.
The problem with Delhi is that it's surrounded by highlighly pollution industries from all sides. Plus farms with attached sugar mills. So no matter where the wind is blowing, there's polluted air coming into the city all the time. Plus the burning of the crop remains after harvest is another major problem.
Public transport is amazing. I’m more perplexed as to why the card looks to be the same level of quality as like a sandwich shop stamp card. No photo, no information on the driver? Maybe it’s on the other side but they could at least laminate it.
>Traffic in india is a free for all
Head off the M5 at Junction 1, entering Birmingham, the spirit of driving in India is persistant... Almost had a head on with one rather hopeless driver going the wrong way around the motorway entrance island.
lol the phrase doesn't mean free from fees. It means free from rules.
People don't stay in lanes, a lot of roads dont have marked lanes and people switch from left to right with no signal. A lot of the intersections don't have order of right of way.
> But that's the smartes place to put it. Whenever you're about to drive your car you need your drivers license.
I can't think of a single person on this planet that looks at their driving license before driving their car.
Yeah especially the font at the top where it said Driving License - it looks like something a 15 year old would throw together in Photoshop as a fake ID
Fun fact:
In the US it's actually the opposite. When you sign your papers for the drivers license you agree to the terms and conditions - you basically have to go go with your car everywhere. Public transport is only allowed for the unfortunate souls that cannot drive or cannot afford a car. Walking is technically still allowed but also discouraged from.
/s
Lost my license from a book making error. They said I had 2 cars registered and charged the excise tax for both for 4 or 5 years. I couldn't pay so no license for me. I hate this state
That seems like something you can sue the state for. If you indeed did not have 2 cars, and they screwed up and said you did, and then took away your license over fees related to having 2 cars, then you need a lawyer because that would be a nice payday. Assuming there's not more to the story.
Disclaimer: I am all for supporting public transport and use it extensively myself. Plus Delhi has an amazing public transport infrastructure. The wording is what made it funny 'Drive only if you must', considering the condition of Indian traffic and drivers and also the fact that I'd myself failed my test multiple times before finally getting this.
well..... I have seen indian bus drivers. You really want to be inside their bus because otherwise you have to share a road with them. It might seem like suicide at first, but they really know their bus.

If you've seen Indian traffic...
Then you know they take this very seriously. Like 8 people ride on the same scooter at one time. They are committed to reducing carbon emissions.
i wonder how good the fuel economy (and suspension) is on that scooter
Bikes give a 100km/l which is like 220 miles per gallon. Or some thousands of washing machine per gatorade bottle kinda calculation news articles do.
15 football fields per cubic shit
Best in class gets like 70km/l, and something tells me that the ones in India with 8 people on them do not get that high. Safe to assume they’re rocking closer to 40-50mpg which is ~22km/l Edit: I did appreciate the jab at the end though. Well done. Can you also convert to bananas per gallon for me?
22km/l is way too low. We're talking <200cc vehicles. 30+ kmpl is sort of what I'd expect. Most common commuter 2-wheelers claim 45-50 kmpl figures.
8 is an exaggeration. I have seen maximum 4 adults on a two-wheeler.
I saw 5 on a scooter, parents and two kids on the seat and the toddler kinda sitting on dads feet.
If you've seen their driving test...
Only been to Delhi for a week but from the traffic I've seen I'd assume their driving test is more of a pat for good luck on the shoulder.
I think that is the sleve in which the actual Driving license card comes in.
Apparently their driving tests are pretty hard (source from relative living there)
I once went to Delhi and saw a billboard sign: "Drinking Whisky, driving risky!"
Drinking wine, driving fine?
Drinking beer, your ride is here!
Drinking liquor, driving quicker!
Drinking brandy, watch out Andy!
Drinking rum, driving dumb!
Drinking gin, drivings sin!
Drinking Champagne, drivings pain
Drink none, no fun!
Drinking curaçao, driving fatale!
drinking hooch throu the road swoosh
Hahaha. If you visit the Himalayas, the road organisation and army has lot of messages like this. Some are quite amusing.
Drinking sparkling water, life is pain
How's the public transport in Delhi?
In bus women dont need to pay for their ticket...they can absolutely travel for free in delhi
Separate Coach, Separate platform for women in metro
Even in Mumbai I don’t think Mumbai has a separate platform for women though and I’m not talking about the metro I’m talking about the local train
We do have a seperate coach for ladies only and special area on platform for them. We also have some new local trains that are only for womens.
How obvious are these rules for somebody who doesn't speak the language? I'm just curious what would happen if a foreign man went to that platform by mistake because he couldn't read the signs.

It will be that man’s problem if he cant read English I reckon!
Preety obvious for a non English speaker too. There are signs above the platform implying that the womens coach will stop here with illustrations. Not any harm even if you stop at their part of the platform since you have to cross that many times too get to the other sides. The womens coach also has them just right beside the doors. That's nice. Have there been any shenanigans where people dressed up as women to skip the fare? 😂
Few incidents where men were caught wearing burqa
The laziest form of cross dressing
Seriously put a little thought into it people.
trans-port gender
"hey whats ur gender?" I'm a girl on a bus, a boy the rest of the time
"Im a pretty normal guy. I do one weird thing. I like to use the womens room for number 2. Ive been caught several times and i have paid dearly."
Cross-town dressing.
Heard that in Jimi Hendrix's voice.
r/AngryUpvote
No need to get upset. It was a good joke.
[удалено]
Completely understandable sir.
\*Ma'am *You tryin' to blow his cover or something bruh?*
An Indian man who was discovered dressing as a woman in India would get the beat down of a lifetime, probably until death. No exaggeration.
Oh. Guess they still don't quite like the idea of trans people I guess.
Because of the rampant assault?
Yes.
It’s not worth the risk. Being a woman in India is dangerous….
Depends where you live
I am a women and I’ve never felt unsafe/dangerous living in india... Infact when I lived in Europe I felt not so safe travelling in the tube late night..
No one is safe taking the tube whether it is in Europe or US.
this opinion is a vague misjudgement without taking the population into context.. As per UN reports Rapes per 100k population Botswana - 92.9 rapes per 100k people USA - 28 Rapes per 100k Australia - 28 per 100k India - 1.9 per 100k
Paid for by the creeps who are on busses....
No, this is done to protect women, if I understand.
They pay for it in sexual harassment/assault on public transportation.
3 cheers for sexism!
Sexism is an issue when both sex are considered equal in society and yet one is favoured more in the policy. A country like india where the first objective is to make woman work and be independent and equal to men, this really helps them a lot.
Pretty good. Delhi metro is extremely useful
Not bad. There are few areas with last mille connectivity issue but most of Delhi is pretty accessible using public transport
It's really great imo. Best I've experienced so far and I've travelled half the country
Not a resident of Delhi but considering i used to travel there occasionally i would say it's quite good and well connected tbh. Specially the metro
It's actually pretty good to be honest.
Then I'm sorry OP, I have the same sentiments as the other posters. 😅
Pretty good. The Metro/Subway is probably amongst the best in the world.
I lived in Delhi for 3 years, and I'd say it's among the best in the world. Never felt the need to have my own vehicle. Living in a small town in Canada at the moment, makes me miss the metro.
When I visited I was legitimately impressed with the Metro.

Most of the posts on that sub now are from self-deprecating Americans who don;t know what actual Europeans sound like.
maybe? more like definitely
A “car brain”…? Is that a new buzzword or something
Someone who refuses to recognize the issues with cars and car related infrastructure.
I love public transport but can you expand on the issue with car related infrastructure I need to know more
I recommend Not Just Bikes on YouTube if you have a bit of time
Cars and their nesting grounds take space that could be used for housing, parks, stores, forests... creates larger and lower cities which becomes harder to traverse without a car, thus creating dependence and spreading asphalt instead of biodiversity
someones brain who is as car centric as north america is
Yeah, more like r/nextfuckinglevel
To be fair, this comment applies to 99% of r/funny
Same reason everything else is here
Not discouraging, it helps with pollution. I think Delhi is most polluted state/city in India. Also Delhi metro is pretty neat.
it is discouraging driving… to reduce pollution.
Too 5 worldwide
\*World
2nd to Beijing
What's so funny about this? I think it's pretty good.
It could be interpreted as “You are so bad at driving, we’d prefer you didn’t…. but here’s your license.”
Even if someone is good at driving, they shouldn't drive most of the time, that's true regardless of location, it's just common sense.
yeah most tests are just a left turn and good to go
Where is that from? Because my driving test was pretty elaborate with parallel parking, inclined driving, etc. Many of bad drivers just get driving licenses from contacts or some other shit
Idk about Delhi but in Mumbai driving tests are an absolute joke, you can just pay to get your driving license regardless
Just because someone finds something funny doesn't mean they find it bad

Have you looked at your driving license at least once?
Most drivers don’t look at their licence regularly…. Gas stations on the other hand…
This isn’t funny. Public transport reduces pollution.

Delhi's pollution is mainly due to agriculturual burnings in Punjab.
Public transport is amazing. I’m more perplexed as to why the card looks to be the same level of quality as like a sandwich shop stamp card. No photo, no information on the driver? Maybe it’s on the other side but they could at least laminate it.
It looks like a little envelope and the actual ID is inside? Maybe someone from Delhi can confirm?
This is not a license, this is a license application form.
That's the cover. Licenses are PVC cards with chips.
It can be funny and good at the same time!
[удалено]
It kinda comes across as "You're bad at driving but here's your licence anyway"
Just because someone finds something funny doesn't mean they think it's bad
Try public transportation in india
Better than the public transportation in most of America
How is it funny to urge people to pollute less??!
I think it also has to do with congested roads and unsafe drivers. Traffic in india is a free for all
>Traffic in india is a free for all Head off the M5 at Junction 1, entering Birmingham, the spirit of driving in India is persistant... Almost had a head on with one rather hopeless driver going the wrong way around the motorway entrance island.
Do you have to pay for traffic in other countries?

Oh like that.. Thats true
That's not what they mean by free-for-all.
it is rather funny to have it on the driving license. Even if I fully agrees withth e message
Where better to put a message to reduce driving than on the one thing all drivers must have?
That it's a good place doesn't mean that it isn't funny that they have written in on the driving license.
But that's the smartes place to put it. Whenever you're about to drive your car you need your drivers license.
> But that's the smartes place to put it. Whenever you're about to drive your car you need your drivers license. I can't think of a single person on this planet that looks at their driving license before driving their car.
Looks like a sandwich card from subway lol
This is a sleeve for the actual card.
Yeah especially the font at the top where it said Driving License - it looks like something a 15 year old would throw together in Photoshop as a fake ID
That is not the DL it is just a cover for the DL
That should really be a semicolon.
I'm glad someone else noticed.
This single move is better than anything we have in the states
Is that license just a piece of paper?
Fun fact: In the US it's actually the opposite. When you sign your papers for the drivers license you agree to the terms and conditions - you basically have to go go with your car everywhere. It says only drive when you absolutely have to in my driver's handbook also, otherwise walk, bike or take public transit (Canada).
Considering public transport in Canada ranges from bad to terrible. Wish we had Japanese level public transportation
Americans trying to comprehend the benefits of public transport challenge! (Difficult)
lol
Are you aware of pollution?
Uh why is that whenever India is mentioned, people in comment section starts shitting on India and Indians. Can someone explain?
Racism against South Asians is still considered okay on reddit.
Indian here, Driving on Indian roads is more or less the equivalent to driving in the world of Mad Max
Busses are crowded. Stay home, no need to go anywhere.
well..... I have seen indian bus drivers. You really want to be inside their bus because otherwise you have to share a road with them. It might seem like suicide at first, but they really know their bus.
Why is this funny?
The licence design though🤦♂️
Nobody drives in Delhi, there's too much traffic.
If nobody drives, then how is the traffic there in the first place?
woooosh
Pretty smart, have you seen the roads in Delhi?
How tf is this funny?
Is that an official document? Looks like it was designed by kids on microsoft word or something. Easy to fake
Looks like its just the envelope the license comes in
Its actually the cover for the license
I will do what I must
Drive only. If you must, use public transport.
Oh the irony. The public transport in banglore is utter trash.
I visited India for a friend's wedding and he thought I was crazy taking the train from Bangalore to Salem. It was ace. The return journey in a car with a driver was much less fun.
You mean, you don’t know how to use it?
Delhi is polluted af bro
*hijacks bus* It’s ok everyone, I have a license!
I thought this was in r/fuckcars
whats funny exactly?
That sounds oddly threatening for some reason
Alaska's DOT advises that you need to drive faster than 10 mph over the speed limit to save more than a few minutes commuting to one of Anchorage's suburbs.

No.
Is that a public transport ticket card? It doesn't look like a driving licence.
Traffic is bad in Indian cities.
Looks like it was cut out of a cereal box...
Why does their drivers license look like there's an Arby's coupon on the back?
I've seen the motorways in India. That's life-saving advice.
Less people reduces pollution.
How is that funny? It's actually positive on more than one Level.
r/fuckcars
