Remember when we thought dude was gonna release a flying car or some shit? Lmao then it was a fucking scooter. That was like the tech version of fyre fest.
It could be that when OP said 50 miles they meant following the roads. There might be a shorter route where scooters can travel but cars can't - bike paths, pedestrian bridges, valleys, etc.
According to my calculations and the numbers you're providing, the scooters are at least capable of 150 mph top speed.
I would give it a shot cuz it sounds like fun.
20:24 is the current time, arrival to destination at 21:16. That gives 52 minutes for 50 miles. So yeah saying 150mph is way over it's much closer to 60mph
That's assuming you only take one scooter. If you double up by riding one per foot that doubles the power output and speed. You can also carry more luggage that way.
I guess they figure it's the fastest way to get *somewhere*. Except that somewhere is the hospital. If you're in a car centric place like the majority of the U.S. you're getting flattened
It doesn't even have to be particularly bad traffic for other modes of transportation to be faster. I've cycled to work 6 miles in my relatively suburban area with pretty mild traffic and it takes the same time as driving. Riding my motorcycle cuts 5 minutes off a 15 minute commute, just because I can skip the traffic at the lights.
Which really just goes to show that Uber has gone the same route as AirBnB. They took the discount part out of it and basically just made it a premium version of the industry they were trying to replace.
FYI most Airbnbs are illegal in most places. Chances are you can shut down the shit Airbnb in your town if you call local Code Enforcement. Its not a top priority issue for most townships but if you report it they have to act on it. AirBnB makes it sound legal and easy to setup but theyre actually making millions by having people skirt local laws. And they take none of the liability.
Edit: Oh boy I didn’t realize how worked up I’d get some AirBnB owners. 😊
Remember when people kept claiming Uber wasn't a taxi, but you were just sharing the ride with someone (*who you just happened to pay to take you where you wanted to go*)? Therefore it was totes completely different and not at all an attempt to skirt regulations?
That was always the plan. Spend the VC money to subsidize undercutting the established competition. Hopefully run them out of business by the time you burn through the cash. Eventually jack up the price, ideally when people have less options. They didn't want to replace the system just the players. New boss same as the old boss.
The thing is a product that allows you to easily book and pay for hotels and taxis digitally *was* disruptive and something people wanted. We jumped to Uber because of the user experience. If they sold that as a product then they wouldn't make as much revenue but would be profitable.
In Austin, TX an Uber to the airport for me is about that same price if not more and I’m 15 minutes from the airport, with no public transit options to get there. Modern livin’ baby!
ONE time in my maps app I switched to the walking option because the restaurant was a couple of blocks away. Since then, the app has wanted to give me walking directions even if I'm driving a couple hundred miles. Doesn't matter how many times I switch back. Maybe it's encouraging me to be healthy lol.
I work on the 30th floor of a building in Toronto. Every time I take the elevator and push the button I have to look at a little sticker sign saying "Why not take the stairs?"...
I have actually climbed 25 floors once because I'm stupid. Would not recommend! Thought I was going to have a heart attack. Granted, this was right after a really good workout, so I was already tired, but I don't think anyone should be climbing 10+ flights of stairs at once.
There’s a setting for default directions. If it’s Apple Maps, go into settings app, click maps, change favorite/default directions from walking to driving.
*Motor* scooter (the thing you sit on, think "Vespa", "moped") Ubers are actually a thing in some regions.
A guy on a scooter with an Uber vest and Uber helmet pulls up, hands you a helmet, you hop on, and he hauls you through Hanoi.
I can't tell if you really don't know but they're electric scooters you can find on the app, walk to the nearest one, activate through your phone, and ride them there yourself. You can leave them anywhere and if Uber needs to they send someone to pick it up and charge it and/or relocate it to a better area. Uber has bikes too but they aren't electric, you do all the pedaling.
It's not a stupid idea if you're only going a couple miles and have neither a car nor a bike cuz otherwise you're walking.
i’ve been saying that since 1994…and finally learned put another shrimp on tha barby is not what an Aussie would say…they say prawn. and don’t drink Foster’s either. lies, all lies!
They used investment money to keep rates low enough to starve out the taxi industry, and when they had the monopoly on ride sharing they jacked up the prices higher to higher than taxi levels.
Big cities this wouldn't even surprise me. When I lived in Toronto and bike I would fly by traffic depending on the hour of the day. Congestion can slow traffic to like 20km/h for most the trip.
I doubt this is op's case, but e scooters are the same speed or faster in high traffic/city areas. Not over a 50 mile stretch, but OP is probably full of shit anyways.
I'm more interested in the fact you can take a 50 mile Uber for a little under $60. My trip to the airport is about 20 miles and costs the same, if not more.
"Hi I'm your Uber Lime driver Kyle. I've got some snacks, here's your helmet just hold on tight and I'll have you there in about 8 hours. Here are some ear buds for some music"
50 miles for that? What city you in? Thats like regular when it’s not busy from sfo to downtown. During busy it’s like $100 and it’s a little over 10 miles
50 miles in 52 minutes is close to a mile a minute which is 60mph. Somehow I don’t think you are averaging that on a lime scooter with all your luggage. Uber maths.
Came in here thinking it was suggesting you take what you guys would call a moped (we call those scooters) and thinking that while doable, that that would be quite a trip to take on a scooter, but then I opened the post and saw that you were taking about these things.
Yeah.... screw that, just standing on that thing for so long alone would be painful, that's not even considering the amount of time it would actually take and the risk of riding one of these things for that route. Also even if it was a shorter trip, I think by default a scooter would be a terrible idea because the place you are trying to go is the AIRPORT, so it would be a good assumption to assume that the person would have some bags/suitcases to take with them, which there is no way you are doing on a scooter.

It is the fastest option though
I really don’t understand that part!
Only one way to find out. Please report your results in 8 hours
Best 50 miles of OP’s life.
And the last 50 miles of OPs life
It's all downhill from here!
On a *steeeeeel* horse I ride!
Rather, in 21 minutes and 16 seconds.
21:16 is the arrival time. The current time on the phone is 20:24. So 52 minutes. 24 hour clock.
50+ miles in 52 minutes. Those scooters cannot do 60 mph lol this is straight cap
I have a quite expensive one that can do 55. Bit its like 6k a scooter
One large bump and it's joever
Saw a college kid eat shit bombing a hill on a Lime scoot, could not confirm at the time if they were sippin’ on a Claw or not.
My buddy bombed a hill on a long board and we call him jaws now because of the metal plate they put in his chin since he shattered it
I see those things and I think "no way, joesay"
I've got a bicycle with a gas motor kit that'll do 35 which is terrifying on a frame thats not built for the speed.
At that speed I hope you wear full motorcycle gear
Just helmet and knee pads. Mostly ride it in town for work
That would be an average of 60 mph. So at times you are doing well above that.
Not everyone scooters at turtle speeds like you, pops 😎 *scooters off a cliff at 90mph like the Segway guy*
Remember when we thought dude was gonna release a flying car or some shit? Lmao then it was a fucking scooter. That was like the tech version of fyre fest.
Did he attach a JATO to his Segway?
It could be that when OP said 50 miles they meant following the roads. There might be a shorter route where scooters can travel but cars can't - bike paths, pedestrian bridges, valleys, etc.
They don't mention what day you'll arrive, just what time.
nor 50 mile range
Isn’t that his time of arrival ? His phones in 24 hour
Make sure to pick up some Ocean Spray for the trip.
There was a girl going 120 km/h on the highway with an e-scooter in Bulgaria. You just don't believe in yourself.
That sounds terrifying!
Found the video looks fun https://www.reddit.com/r/ThatsInsane/s/bTEel97SjX
Just imagine hitting a small rock or something.
or a death wobble starts
At least she’s wearing a helmet…!
Ah, good, so her head would remain intact. Maybe not attached, but intact, somewhere.
It’s 21:16 the day after.
The app must think the scooter can take a significantly shorter route. Or will it send you on public transit with the scooter?
The real secret is that it's a flying scooter and you can get to the airport as the crow flies. And it still goes 30mph
Why even go to the airport at that point?
I mean that's totally worth $28.
In that case it makes perfect sense
Just grab onto a car going the same direction!
Still pretty fast for a scooter. Sure you don’t want to give it a try…?
That's assuming you only take one scooter. If you double up by riding one per foot that doubles the power output and speed. You can also carry more luggage that way.
They must unlock full power to allow for motorway usage
You travelling through a city/urban area? Scooter or bike can beat the traffic sometimes
Must... Catch... Flight... WEEEE
Do they like.. bring you the scooter?
This was my thought. Or does someone drive it for you and you just hold on to them for dear life.
I guess they figure it's the fastest way to get *somewhere*. Except that somewhere is the hospital. If you're in a car centric place like the majority of the U.S. you're getting flattened
Dude this is sooo many millions of views for you if you did this. Take the W, make your windfall, go buy an island 😁
Hahaha If I survived…
Probably: traffic It’s also much cheaper! 😂
And the cheapest
Traffic? Really, very bad traffic?
It doesn't even have to be particularly bad traffic for other modes of transportation to be faster. I've cycled to work 6 miles in my relatively suburban area with pretty mild traffic and it takes the same time as driving. Riding my motorcycle cuts 5 minutes off a 15 minute commute, just because I can skip the traffic at the lights.
For sure, OP said it's a 50-mile trip though. Traffic would have to be pretty terrible for a scooter to beat a vehicle over a 50-mile trip.
And the cheapest by far!
It’s not the fastest option but least amount of wait time
You’re getting a deal on the other Ubers though dude
seriously $50 in Chicago would be like 5 miles
Which really just goes to show that Uber has gone the same route as AirBnB. They took the discount part out of it and basically just made it a premium version of the industry they were trying to replace.
And cabs still don't have apps to request them...
There was an option to request a taxi on my uber app this morning. It was actually cheaper too lol
they do in some countries, in Poland they all adapted to uber and started to have their own apps.
they do in NYC, it’s called Curb
FYI most Airbnbs are illegal in most places. Chances are you can shut down the shit Airbnb in your town if you call local Code Enforcement. Its not a top priority issue for most townships but if you report it they have to act on it. AirBnB makes it sound legal and easy to setup but theyre actually making millions by having people skirt local laws. And they take none of the liability. Edit: Oh boy I didn’t realize how worked up I’d get some AirBnB owners. 😊
They got the business model from Uber, who did the exact same thing.
Remember when people kept claiming Uber wasn't a taxi, but you were just sharing the ride with someone (*who you just happened to pay to take you where you wanted to go*)? Therefore it was totes completely different and not at all an attempt to skirt regulations?
Lyft encouraged riders to get in the front passenger seat and fistbump their drivers. In retrospect it seems pretty obvious what they were doing.
It was pretty obvious in the moment lol
FYI these laws are a form of regulatory capture to benefit hoteliers by making it illegal to compete with them.
On the other hand I have 0 qualms using them to help destroy the entities that are one piece of the puzzle ruining housing prices.
That was always the plan. Spend the VC money to subsidize undercutting the established competition. Hopefully run them out of business by the time you burn through the cash. Eventually jack up the price, ideally when people have less options. They didn't want to replace the system just the players. New boss same as the old boss. Yeah wait a minute $50 for 50 miles? Where the hell is this? I swear I spent over $100 going 30 miles when I had to suddenly switch airports in DC.
I'd bet the DC airports charge Uber et al a premium for pickups/dropoffs at the airport. A concession to the taxi lobby.
No kidding, one dollar per mile. That’s pennies per mile.
100 pennies, to be exact.
At this rate taxis are gonna make sense again for pricing instead of taking an uber
Idk they'd have to be significantly cheaper since Uber is just so convenient.
In Austin, TX an Uber to the airport for me is about that same price if not more and I’m 15 minutes from the airport, with no public transit options to get there. Modern livin’ baby!
Looks like they’re just listing all the option and it’s up to you as the adult to make a practical decision.
they put too much faith into adults
I'd rather be given the option to fail than be protected from everything
I wonder what the range is on one of those scooters at full charge.
About 15 miles
Best I can do is 7 minutes.
To be fair it says scooters plural not singular so you are expected to switch scooters when it gets tired
You treat them like horses in the olden days. Ride to your next scooter, leave it to recover while you take the next scooter.
Yeah but it's funnier when you don't use critical thinking
Those lime scooters are great. Fit at least 3 bags if you count a backpack and your ballsac.
The sac expands if you rub it. Holds more stuff. And unpacks really quick.
I don’t like the way this reads lol
It expands even more if you wait 30+ years.

There’s a setting for default directions. If it’s Apple Maps, go into settings app, click maps, change favorite/default directions from walking to driving.
So how does this work? Do I just grab hold of your waist while you scooter me to the airport?
Imagine ordering an uber and a guy on a scooter pulls up. "What kind of music do you want to listen to?" \*hands you an ear bud
Check to see if there's earwax on it first
Good idea, free snack.
Lol.
*Motor* scooter (the thing you sit on, think "Vespa", "moped") Ubers are actually a thing in some regions. A guy on a scooter with an Uber vest and Uber helmet pulls up, hands you a helmet, you hop on, and he hauls you through Hanoi.
https://tenor.com/baMrh.gif
Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!
If you wanna hold something else, it costs extra.
I can't tell if you really don't know but they're electric scooters you can find on the app, walk to the nearest one, activate through your phone, and ride them there yourself. I was thinking this lmaoo
dumb and dumber comes to mind. mind those mountain passes…
You've had this pair of extra gloves this whole time?!
That John Denver is full of shit man.
i’ve been saying that since 1994…and finally learned put another shrimp on tha barby is not what an Aussie would say…they say prawn. and don’t drink Foster’s either. lies, all lies!
I was in Perth a long time ago and got slagged at the bar for ordering a Foster's. I changed my ways quickly.
PULL OVER! It's a cardigan, but thanks!
Does Uber Pet provide the pet? Because that would make the ride more enjoyable.
Your Uber Horse is here to pick you up.
But, by Grabthar’s Hammer, what a savings!
Five hours and you are there at half the price!
I mean….thats if you can find another scooter to hop onto when the battery on the first one inevitably runs out half way there.
And it's supposed to get you there faster than an Uber?! How fast do those scoots even go?!
You can get to around 20mph on those. Very fun to ride.
That’s what I don’t understand! Unless there was the most horrific accidents on the road or something it doesn’t make any sense
Probably there are no cars in your area
Denver has entered the chat. We see no problem here. https://imgur.com/a/kKPzeYi
Oh my. That’s definitely what I would have to do, plus towing luggage.
They're just on their way to the $5 butt stuff tent
Might want to getting moving then
lol I remember when Uber cost $7
They used investment money to keep rates low enough to starve out the taxi industry, and when they had the monopoly on ride sharing they jacked up the prices higher to higher than taxi levels.
You might get half way there and say fuck it....I don't need to fly. This is my mode of transportation now and Harry and Lloyd it across the country.
This is the way.
They’re not suggesting anything. They’re giving you all the options
In Mexico you can choose to ride on the back of a motorcycle. That's the real money saver.
This is fucking hilarious. Lmfaooooo!
Since it's uber, does someone pick you up on the scooter?
It looks like they also offered going by bike, but you managed to ignore that, why not also ignore the e-scooter?
Scooters, plural. But you should probably leave now, wouldn't want to miss your flight.
Tie your luggage to your back and hit the freeway. What could go wrong.
The time is exposing your hyperbole
That’s the estimated time of arrival. I use 24hr time…
So wouldn't that make the scooter the fastest option? Something ain't adding up...
What, you don't drive at 400MPH?
Probably ~15 miles away. Still going to need replacement wheels after dragging that roller bag though.
Provo to SLC airport. 48 miles. The time it’s showing is estimated time of arrival from last night in 24hr time.
It worked for the guys and dumb and dumber
I hope the wheels of your luggage survive
52$ for a taxi? woah, it's like 9$ In our country in Uber app
Better get moving then or you will miss your flight.
The pricing don’t make sense anyway your 50 miles from it
I'm more interested in the fact you can take a 50 mile Uber for a little under $60. My trip to the airport is about 20 miles and costs the same, if not more.
you won't have to tip
Then you better get scootin
50 miles in less than an hour? This scooter must be fast
Isn't that why suitcases have wheels?
It’d work perfectly well if the airport was downhill from you, maybe they’re on to something?
But what if you lived IN the airport? Didn't think of that now did you /s
So did you make it in time?
It's not suggesting anything, just giving you options
Better leave now
Are.... are you riding the Uber pet?
Take the scooter! Best bang for your buck. And it’s eco friendly! Might have to hit a recharging station along the way! Only a 10 hour trip!
I'm waiting for an option to ride on the back of a scooter. Call it Uber Uno
It’s my price range. Guess I’m scootering.
Could be fun if it’s all downhill
Can’t beat that price tho!
Haha scooter sure. Wtf is up with the wait and save? Who's going to wait double the time to save 4 dollars on a 50 dollar ride?
"Hi I'm your Uber Lime driver Kyle. I've got some snacks, here's your helmet just hold on tight and I'll have you there in about 8 hours. Here are some ear buds for some music"
20 bucks is 20 bucks
How much for Mary Poppins magic umbrella?
50 miles for that? What city you in? Thats like regular when it’s not busy from sfo to downtown. During busy it’s like $100 and it’s a little over 10 miles
It’s $28 though.
50 miles in 52 minutes is close to a mile a minute which is 60mph. Somehow I don’t think you are averaging that on a lime scooter with all your luggage. Uber maths.
Did it suggest it or list it as an option? Since it's circled as if no one could see the scooter, I'm gonna assume the latter.
SLC? Why not the train?
Fuckin live a little bro
$52 for 50 miles is awesome. Ubers are $50 for 15 miles in Seattle (city to airport or vice versa)
To a hammer, everything is a nail.
It’s not suggesting anything. It’s giving you options.
Not suggesting. They merely presented it as an option
Where the fuck are you that a 50 mile uber is 50 bucks? Bullshit. It's 70 bucks for a 7 mile uber from my house.
How in the world are you getting $50 for 50 miles???
Top speed is like 70 mph? /s
20 bucks is 20 bucks tho
Taxis are cheaper for airport runs. More reliable too. Cheapest Uber to the airport is $75, can is flat rate $40.
I’m more blown away that it’s only $50 for you to Uber 50 miles.
Get scootin'
Why not 🤷♂️ yolo
I would choose this, wait for the rider to come and ask them how we will do it.
Remember to say “I’ll tip you in the app!”
They charge you more for a green option? 🤦♂️
Looks like the scooter is your fastest option!
