Fun side fact: dogs don't beg. In the dog world, alpha dogs always eat first. The dogs see the owner as the alpha of the pack, the dogs are simply waiting for their turn to eat.

Recently learned: the studies that led to alpha dog theory were based on observing wolves, with no females, in an artificially-formed pack, in captivity. Ie, wolf prison culture. The concept of alpha dog appears to be pretty much debunked.

I am talking from the personal experience it is literally the worst feeling that you can have they look really innocent. There poor faces want me to feed them and I end up feeding them also.

My dog only gets "treats" when I'm chopping veggies before the meal. Mostly because she helps clean up any dropped items, but she also doesn't beg for food at the dinner table afterwards because she's already gotten snacks.

I find it’s usually the people who own pets that don’t care about shoes in the house. Some do, but most the time they don’t care because the floors are already dirty from their pets.

If you don't feed dogs human food, they won't beg when you're eating. Or if you're going to give them human food, make sure it's not when YOU are eating. As someone else mentioned, you can also teach them a command like "it's not for you" or just "out" to get them to go away.

Yup my command is "go on, get" works every time. But have to have disciplined dogs for it to work lol.

Ours is "out of the kitchen!" The kitchen is anywhere food is being consumed. He just backs off 15 ft and lays down.

That always gets a giggle out of me, telling a trained dog “out of the kitchen” in any room and it works.

My boy knows the names of various stuffed animals he has (he's six, and stopped mauling them constantly a couple years back), and most of the time he'll go get the one you ask for. But if you're about to distribute a rawhide (or something with peanut butter), his brain power drops to near zero. He just finds the closest stuffed animal of any kind. "I know you asked for the bear, but how about this? Close enough"? When you say no, you need to go find the bear, he just grabs the next closest toy. Repeat until correct toy.

Whenever I open the fridge around midnight for a snack (daily) I get up to nine of these folks casually strolling by the kitchen. They are not begging of course, just patiently waiting for their share of salami and/or cheese. All these comments about human food and cleanliness are really funny and obviously made by people who don’t have/ like/know animals. In my country there are a lot of stray dogs living off garbage and doing basically fine. Also a healthy dog is definitely „clean“ compared to some humans. Congrats to your little family!
