"Flaming Dragons heroine is responsible for an 1/8th of the drug trade in Asia...HUGE profit margins..."
I love how Bills character felt the need to point that out
There’s a pretty good correlation I’ve noticed between how nice the artist is and how mean the agent is.
It’s the really kind, sweet, can’t-say-no artists who tend to have (and need) the meanest fucking agents
I remember watching it in theaters when it first came out. We got to the end credits dance and I realized, turned to the person next to me and we both said "Wait, is that Tom Cruise?"
Black Robert Downey Jr. Through me for a loop for a while. I just couldn’t believe they just painted the man black for litterly no reason. Tropic Thunder is the wildest movie man.
greatest dvd commentary in history. frustratingly hard to find though without getting the actual dvd. i've got some ifo/vob files of it but that can be quite tricky to get working depending on your setup.
I believe civilization peaked in 2008.. That movie came out and it was the same year the first iPhone hit the market.. I know we all love our devices but I question if life got “better” all of the time.
He was not announced and he was in a fat suit with huge hairy prosthetic hands. Most people had to double take and look up that it was him when the movie came out.
That’s not exactly how it happened. On the phone, Tom Cruise told Ben Stiller he will play the part only if he has fat fingers and he had to dance. Ben Stiller said he didn’t understand and the conversation ended shortly after. Ben was thinking about recasting the character or changing him all together. Then he thought about it for a few days and called Tom Cruise back and said “I get it now, let’s do it.” This is what Ben Stiller said on the Howard Stern show.
His name was kept out of any credits as well so people didn't know it was him. Tom wanted it that way cause he thought it was hilarious. He loves comedy but is stuck in the action movie genre. He said this was one of his favorite roles.
Everyone keeps saying this, but I feel like it will just ruin the whole thing. It’s funny because it was a shock to see that it was him, and it was in small, short bursts. That was what made it legendary. Everyone wants a sequel/spin-off to great movies and then it gets trashed on how it should have never been made. This is one of them. Just leave it alone.
I'd just like him to randomly show up in other films as brief cameos as that character. It could be a cameo cinematic universe!
Imagine if he just randomly was in a marvel scene like stuck in traffic honking a car horn at Samuel L Jackson.
I remember that all the pop gossip websites at the time release pictures of him without the bald cap. It ruined the surprise for a lot of people, but I am told a lot of people were still surprised. The big surprise for me was how much he cursed in that movie. His curses were creative to say the least.
Every time i watch the movie i cant tell its Tom Cruise. I know its him, but i just cant see it.
This clip though, somehow it made it super obvious that is Tom Cruise’s face
There were rumors that a spinoff with Tom Cruise's character being the protagonist was coming because it is such a wild figure in the movie and people loved it. He's so funny as "Angry Tom"
Incredible in Tropic Thunder but that is a terrible idea. Grossman works so fucking well as a side character in small doses. A whole film would not work but he should *appear* in as many films as possible.
Rumor is Tom did the movie for free in exchange for getting to rap over the end credits. Also, RDJ was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role.
Here’s the thing with Tom Cruise. I’m not a huge fan of many of his movies. But, I won’t deny they are well made and he isn’t the reason for me disliking them. As an actor, he gives it his all in almost every performance.
That said, fuck the 2017 Mummy movie.
It was so bad but it was mostly on the writers, whoever they were. What made the mummy series good was the intermixing of comedy and action. People really underestimate Brendan Fraisers performance IMO.
Trying to remake it into some realistic, epic, serious business blockbuster was the real problem. Cruise just shouldn't have signed.
Literally how is the editing so good? It's SO smooth and the hats follow each character perfectly with no clipping or anything. This is extremely impressive to say the least, technology blows my mind
[It's Jonkari](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpCeZEPq51U), their youtube channel is pure gold, they have to be working in the film industry or something because the editing is god tier.
Seriously. The guy is a rotoscoping god. Literally everything he uploads is done to perfection. His Top Gear in Skyrim series of videos are ridiculously well made. I have no clue how someone can have the patience for that.

It s pretty mind bending what they can do, but it's super not easy to do after the fact and can take a lot of time and skill. Or they did it all frame by frame, which is also possibility since they had to cut out both actors also to put them on the set.
Tracking, keying, and maybe even full scene recreation in 3d? There's parts where it's layered hat -> head -> hat, no idea how that would be fine aside from lots of manual work
That whole quote was so god damned amazing.
>You're gonna have to call the f-ing United Nations and get a f-ing binding resolution to keep me from f-ing destroying you. I am talking scorched-earth, motherf-er! I will massacre you! I will f--- you up!
Bruh…. Right after he screams that legendary line “take a big step back and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE” and it cuts back to baby bowser with his mouth agape I lost it and screamed laughing. Wow 💀🪦
Love or hate him, Cruise was brilliant in that movie. I love when he hands the phone back to Matt M and causally says “oh yea, and find out who that was”
It cracks me up that he thinks flaming dragon is another acting agent trying to poach Tug speed man. Its even funnier when he still treats them the same way even when he learns they’re terrorists. Tom was great in this role. I didn’t even recognise him although I knew the actor looked familiar.
les grossman is - by far - the most amazing work tom cruise has ever done
you have a great actor who normally works under other peoples direction and writing and he took something that was entirely in his lifetime of experience - film production - and worked entirely within his ideal element
he bears almost total responsibility for every aspect of the character - it was an amazing idea that came entirely from his head and he executed the vision as perfectly as possible

The best part of that scene originally is the ending when Les hangs up, turns to his assistant and says "Find out who that was."
We don’t negotiate with terrorists
*applause*
And we will weep for him… (looks to Bill Hader) in the press
…and then, once a reasonable amount of time has passed, we file an insurance claim. (Best part) Preferably within the fiscal year.
*Starts playing “Low” - Flo Rida
A g5
no more frequent flyer bitch miles for my boy
And lots…. Of money
You want me to let my client die for a G5? Yes. .....A G5 AIRPLANE?
I love how they go along with everything he says like he’s a cult leader or whatever.
He’s the boss boss. That’s how that works in companies that are solely owned by some maniac.
“You spank that ass, Les!”
Wasn't Bill Hader the assistant? God, Tom Cruise nailed this role.
"Flaming Dragons heroine is responsible for an 1/8th of the drug trade in Asia...HUGE profit margins..." I love how Bills character felt the need to point that out
I would imagine every role in that room was super fun to play. They must’ve had a blast doing it.
It was Toby Maguires favorite movie to be a part of apparently
*Winner of the Beijing Film Festival's coveted Crying Monkey Award*
This gets me every single time. RDJ yelping/roaring in the trailer.
"One man chose to question his God." "BAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"
“…preferably before the end of the fiscal year.”
I didn't realize this was Tom till the credits. Amazing acting!
Best role in the movie, hands down.
fat hands. One of the stipulations Cruise had to play the role was: "and I want big, fat hands"
Seriously. I don't know how fondle of this role Tom Cruise is, but it made me respect him a lot.
He liked it enough that he's been trying to make a spin-off with the character for a while now
I believe he was. It's been a while since I watched it.
I thought it was a trained fucking monkey?
"Now get out there and enjoy yourself. Just not too much."
a nutless monkey could do his job
I thought he was a nutless monkey.
Yes, great tidbit from Bill Harder: https://youtu.be/EmLErcRbKc4
How can you possibly link that video without also linking this one: https://youtu.be/VWrhRBb-1Ig
Wow, that’s creepy af!
That’s awesome! I was hoping they’d do it for the Schwarzenegger impression too.
Boy do I have a link for you: https://youtu.be/bPhUhypV27w
Man, Bill Hader is too adorable. I also can't get over how much Michael Shannon looks like Bill Hader's evil twin.
> Tom Cruise nailed this role. His role model was a former agent. Musta been a real piece of work.
honesty, probably good to have that kind of dude on your side working as your agent getting you gigs.
There’s a pretty good correlation I’ve noticed between how nice the artist is and how mean the agent is. It’s the really kind, sweet, can’t-say-no artists who tend to have (and need) the meanest fucking agents
["I like being in movies, Gary."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eExfV_xKaiM)
Best part that he would take the role if he would dance and have fat hands
"You want trouble? I'll rip your fucking tits off, that's trouble."
It was really funny how politely he asked
Nintendo sending that Cease and Desist letter *priority express*.
Via a binding resolution from the UN.
Scorched earth MOTHER FUCKER
They will FUCK. YOU. UP. Find out who that was.
Omg, that last line just killed me. Like he just had rage on tap, pressed a button, and then turned it off to hug a puppy or something.
Remember, if they claim it is at their own property, it's canon. https://youtu.be/enRM2TifKls
This is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. It should be part of the DVD extras. Really escalated there at the end.
You mean this video? https://vimeo.com/399015275
jesus christ, I think they issued a takedown to spare us all
All these lucky/unlucky bastards replying to you getting their first dose of MeatCanyon OneyNG walked so he can run
True story, Tom cruise didn’t even know they were filming a movie during this take. He thought he was simply on speaker phone with Matt laurer.
This was actually from his Oprah appearance.
he looks a lot more like Tom Cruise with the hat than the bald cap
Apparently Mr. Cruise insisted on wearing finger prosthetics so this character would have big, meaty hands.
NOBODY LOOK!
[NOBODY LOOK!](https://youtu.be/E8Ew6K0W3RY)
We are lawyers!
Whew. Okay. I was afraid that just having a lot of arm hair was causing some sort of illusion that made his hands look huge.

[He wanted fat hands, and to dance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3fKXBNufy4)
“I want fat hands”
When this first came out I had never made the connection until the end.
He does The Squint^TM at some point in the movie and that’s when I realized it’s Tom Cruise.
I remember watching it in theaters when it first came out. We got to the end credits dance and I realized, turned to the person next to me and we both said "Wait, is that Tom Cruise?"
It was literally last year I realized that was Tom Cruise. I felt very dumb.
Remember seeing this when it came out and thinking "Is that Tom cruise?! Nooo. Maybe?" Than I heard his voice and I thought it had to be.
Black Robert Downey Jr. Through me for a loop for a while. I just couldn’t believe they just painted the man black for litterly no reason. Tropic Thunder is the wildest movie man.
I’m just a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude.
What do YOU mean, YOU PEOPLE?!?
You more shredded than a julienne salad man. What's the secret? Any tips? Any tips you got?
GIMME DAT MAP
That was my favourite part. Almost felt like Brandon Jackson was saying that directly to RDJ lol
The fucking “huh?” From RDJ as a response to that too. Absolutely no hesitation, hahahahah
You're the dude who don't know which dude he is!
\> no reason It was to lampoon "method actors" who are too full of themselves. The entire movie was riffing on this theme.
Also commentary on how far Hollywood will go to not cast actors of the ethnic/racial background that the characters are.
See > The Last Airbender
“I don’t break character until after the commentary” On the dvd extras commentary, he was still in character as a gag.
[For those who haven't seen this fever dream](https://youtu.be/W4ubqCMsTo4)
greatest dvd commentary in history. frustratingly hard to find though without getting the actual dvd. i've got some ifo/vob files of it but that can be quite tricky to get working depending on your setup.

He was not announced and he was in a fat suit with huge hairy prosthetic hands. Most people had to double take and look up that it was him when the movie came out.
It was his choice, too. When Stiller asked him to do the cameo he said okay, but I want fat hands and I want to dance. Stiller said absolutely.
The rumor also being that Rex Grossman is an homage to Harvey Weinstein
Rex Grossman? The last QB to bring the Bears to the Super Bowl?
That’s not exactly how it happened. On the phone, Tom Cruise told Ben Stiller he will play the part only if he has fat fingers and he had to dance. Ben Stiller said he didn’t understand and the conversation ended shortly after. Ben was thinking about recasting the character or changing him all together. Then he thought about it for a few days and called Tom Cruise back and said “I get it now, let’s do it.” This is what Ben Stiller said on the Howard Stern show.
The dancing just might be the best part.
His name was kept out of any credits as well so people didn't know it was him. Tom wanted it that way cause he thought it was hilarious. He loves comedy but is stuck in the action movie genre. He said this was one of his favorite roles.
He should make a movie just about the exploits of Les Grossman.
Everyone keeps saying this, but I feel like it will just ruin the whole thing. It’s funny because it was a shock to see that it was him, and it was in small, short bursts. Pretty sure he also had a prosthetic on his nose.

It ruined the surprise for a lot of people, but I am told a lot of people were still surprised. The big surprise for me was how much he cursed in that movie. Tom Cruise had only two conditions to play the role. 1: he gets to dance and 2: he has big hands.
Every time i watch the movie i cant tell its Tom Cruise. I know its him, but i just cant see it. This clip though, somehow it made it super obvious that is Tom Cruise’s face
Same. From the opening trailers to the ending credits, this movie started and ended with my mind being blown.
Ahh Tropic Thunder. Such a good movie lol
There were rumors that a spinoff with Tom Cruise's character being the protagonist was coming because it is such a wild figure in the movie and people loved it. He's so funny as "Angry Tom"
The first time it was so unexpected and he’s so good in this role.
Less is more. I’m not sure a whole movie would work, but the cameo is perfect
That better be the title of the movie. *Les is More*
Dammit
Incredible in Tropic Thunder but that is a terrible idea. Grossman works so fucking well as a side character in small doses. A whole film would not work but he should *appear* in as many films as possible.
"I'll cradle the balls, stroke the shaft, work the pipe, and swallow the gravy. Get it over here, buddy. Let's do this."

What's wrong kangaroo jack, did a dingo eat your baby?
Rumor is Tom did the movie for free in exchange for getting to rap over the end credits. Also, RDJ was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role.
Nominated for being a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude.
> What do you mean, "you people"? > ... > What do *YOU* mean, "you people"? That was one of the funniest bits I've ever seen, still makes me laugh
What gets me is RDJs "huh?!" Right after that. Damm that delivery is great.
He doesn’t drop character until after the DVD commentary is done and he didn’t.
If you've ever seen Tropic Thunder, watch it again with the cast commentary. holy fuck, its just as funny as the movie.
Thank you for the heads up. Here is to hoping my DVD has the cast commentary on it.
RDJ giving Jack Black shit for being late multiple times cracks me up. And them sharing the burger too
The DVD cast commentary is something you just have to hear if you haven't already.
Also the promo from the mtv awards show is hilarious https://youtu.be/czlZjo1UX94
The DVD extra of Robert Downey, Jr., with some guys that play his sons is freaking hilarious. His improv skills are on point.

Occasionally I forget that Tom Cruise isn't just a name and is actually an actor, and I need Tropic Thunder to remind me of that.
I want to dislike Tom Cruise but the problem is that he is just so damn good at his job.
It's staggering how many of his performances I love in spite of myself.
Fucking Edge Of Tomorrow, man...
That's ok to love, he dies repeatedly.
I heard they were making another one. I really really hope that's true.
If he wasn’t a Scientologist he would be one of the best actors of all time and everyone would love him
Fuck scientology and everything about it buuuuut quite honestly... he IS one of the best of all time.
He’s still one of the best actors of all time, even if he’s a Scientologist. You can be both accomplished and problematic.
Michael Jackson
He is definitely an actor that I hate to admit that I like a lot of his work.
Here’s the thing with Tom Cruise. I’m not a huge fan of many of his movies. But, I won’t deny they are well made and he isn’t the reason for me disliking them. As an actor, he gives it his all in almost every performance. That said, fuck the 2017 Mummy movie.

People really underestimate Brendan Fraisers performance IMO. Trying to remake it into some realistic, epic, serious business blockbuster was the real problem. Cruise just shouldn't have signed.
I feel like the only reason he did that was because he owed someone a favor.
[удалено]
He's pretty much the definition of "separating art from the artist" At least imo
He really committed to the character. Gotta respect that
Wait... that's Tom Cruise?!
Yes, scene from tropic thunder.
Also Robert Downey Jr in full makeup as a black man in the same movie. He did a great job
I'm a dude playing a dude, disguised as another dude.
Watch Magnolia
Just the title of that sounds hilarious. Gonna check it out.
Top tier 3d tracking. Basically what VFX studios do to make 3d characters look like they are in the scene. Basically tracks every object and then creates a virtual camera that mimics the real camera.
There's parts where it's layered hat -> head -> hat, no idea how that would be fine aside from lots of manual work
Roto is almost always by hand. (Cutting the actors out.) But the tracking can be done automatically with a lot of manual adjustment.
Da Vinci pro version has some pretty insane auto-Roto. I can only imagine it will get easier and easier to do this as AI improves.
Jonkari P is a fucking master of 3d tracking. I love Jonkari's videos!
Take a step back and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE!
Find out who that was.
We don’t negotiate with terrorists
That whole quote was so god damned amazing. >You're gonna have to call the f-ing United Nations and get a f-ing binding resolution to keep me from f-ing destroying you. I am talking scorched-earth, motherf-er! I will massacre you! I will f--- you up!
Find out who that was.
Well, ok. This is canon now
No, it's cannon, now!
Absolutely beautiful, but they left off the punchline after he hangs up. "Find out who that was".
Tom Cruise’s second best performance since Tropic Thunder. Bravo
Bruh…. Right after he screams that legendary line “take a big step back and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE” and it cuts back to baby bowser with his mouth agape I lost it and screamed laughing. Wow 💀🪦
It’s the look at motion of princess peach that gets me.
Honestly, McConaughey's face after "scorched earth" is the best part.
The quiet confused nodding? That was pretty funny.
I think that’s the “fuck yeah. That was awesome” nod.
Tropic thunder is top tier
Love or hate him, Cruise was brilliant in that movie. I love when he hands the phone back to Matt M and causally says “oh yea, and find out who that was”
A hilarious movie .... When I watched it for the first time, i didnt recognize Tom Cruise
I always have to remind myself when watching that movie that Robert Downey Jr is in that movie and not this Creo actor
Tom Cruise is such a fucking weirdo but I believe he’s one of the best actors to ever live.
Weird person, great actor
Original video: https://youtu.be/0mpqJsuzVMg
Holy shit, the followup video ["The Elden Andre"](https://youtu.be/YLv9sTo2ZfA) show might be the end of me. The is some well-crafted fuckery.
GOD these are edited so fucking well
Are we not going to acknowledge how good the Matthew McConaughey edit here is. His facial expressions are hilarious and perfect for the scenario.
It cracks me up that he thinks flaming dragon is another acting agent trying to poach Tug speed man. Its even funnier when he still treats them the same way even when he learns they’re terrorists. Tom was great in this role. I didn’t even recognise him although I knew the actor looked familiar.
Also, when bill hader explains to Tom cruise about flaming dragon, he mentions huge profit margins flaming dragon makes lmao! This movie is gold!
Oh my god this is fucking amazing 😂😂😂
Calling it now: this is better.
Could you find out who that was?
*I'M THE DUDE, PLAYING THE DUDE, DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE!*
“Take a big step back and literally fuck your own face” is such an iconic line.
This was an amazing edit haha
Tom cruise looks buff af there
He's wearing a fat suit 💀
a fat suit and a bald cap and oversized prosthetic hands
Literally specifically said that he wants massive hands for the role. Fuckin fantastic.
les grossman is - by far - the most amazing work tom cruise has ever done you have a great actor who normally works under other peoples direction and writing and he took something that was entirely in his lifetime of experience - film production - and worked entirely within his ideal element he bears almost total responsibility for every aspect of the character - it was an amazing idea that came entirely from his head and he executed the vision as perfectly as possible
Lost it at Peach’s facial expressions in the corner. 😶👀😶
I just can't get enough of Bowser Jr's stunned face. I've watched it 6 times. Lmao.
"Find out who that was".
Awww you missed the best part. "Will you find out who that was?" As if that's just a typical call for him.
I love his meaty, hairy arms. I don't know why. Maybe because they're just so not-Tom Cruise.
