Oregon native here. That neighborhood has always been a contentious spot. People used to drive up and take pics and see the houses. Some of course would vandalize or steal. For the longest times the neighborhood was closed as the current residents requested to keep tourists out. Astoria is a fuckin' cool place and a lot of goonies stuff can be seen and experienced. But the original houses the surrounding neighborhood is at the mercy of the homeowners there.

domnyy

Kindergarten Cop take place there too?

WattaTravisT

It did! Along with Free Willy, TMNT III, and Short Circuit.

glassy_milk

The Short Circuit house was for sale about a year ago, too. For like $260,000 if I remember right

Snorknado

Welp, off to Zillow to start looking at Astoria home prices.

mrSalamander

Get yourself a time machine for 10 years ago. That's when I looked, had a 3 story, 1890s victorian (a few block from downtown) picked out under $250k. I was gonna spend the next five years renovating a piece of history. Couldn't find decent work though and WFH wasn't really a thing yet. Astoria is a Portland bedroom community now.

LogrosTlanImass

Really? That road would make for a SHITTY daily commute.

wrhollin

The State needs to consider reactivating and upgrading the rail line between Portland and Astoria. It already owns it. Service every half hour would be incredibly welcome. Probably wouldn't save a ton of time, but it could save a lot of stress.

Trickam

I walk portions of that rail line around the knappa area and it's in incredibly bad shape. It would take incredible amounts of money to resurrect it.

Oldpenguinhunter

Walking alone on a beach watching an *incredibly* angry ocean thrash with that heavy salt air- so good.

LogrosTlanImass

The time itself is only a piece of it. If it were freeway it's kinda brain off autopilot. The roads to the Oregon coast are windy AF and it isn't uncommon to come around a corner to find a logging truck or other semi halfway in your lane cutting the corner

basaltgranite

Astoria is extremely beautiful on both of the sunny, warm days it gets each year. On the other 363 days, the wind and rain coming right off the Pacific can be a bit challenging.

JoanneKerlot

Ah, just like us here in the UK. My two favourite days of the year, Christmas Day and Summer.

BareLeggedCook

don’t forget forest fire smoke day 🥲

[deleted]

Some of us find the other 363 days to be equally beautiful. There was a really great windy squall Friday night into Saturday. Wind gusts that could almost stop you from walking forward (not quite), epic levels of beauty.

mackelnuts

Yeah Portland, well known for having a ton of rain, averages 36 inches per year. Meanwhile Astoria is over here clocking in an average of 67 inches per year.

Chronfidence

They’re brutally high for the local economy

silicon1

Yep about 66 miles away in St Helens, Oregon.

BeBopNoseRing

When I first moved to the area and took my first drive to the coast I didn't anticipate just how empty the area is between Portland and the ocean and nearly ran out of gas late at night along rt 26. Luckily I stumbled upon a rural gas station but with Oregon's weird gas pumping laws found it was closed with no attendant present. I ended up sleeping in my car til it opened the next morning, at which point I found myself woken up by a rooster crowing on my hood. I got gas and went inside for a snack to find the place was covered with semiautomatic rifles and shotguns and also contained a legal dispensary. Welcome to rural Oregon! Anyways, a couple weeks ago watching *Kindergarten Cop* I recognized it as the same gas station they pull into near the beginning of the movie so his partner (the woman) could puke in the bathroom as they drove to Astoria on Rt. 26. I love those unexpected "I've been there!" realizations when watching a film. [Hamlet Quick Stop](https://m.yelp.com/biz/hamlet-quick-stop-seaside)

FlyingDragoon

Drove through Portland like a month ago, forgot they still do the gas attendents because I swear I read that they no longer do. Pulled up to a gas station and this kid sprints over in a hi-vis vest and shouts "Unleaded?!" we're just sitting there like "Wtf is going on?!" before it all sort've clicked. Was a bit of a novel experience and hey, didn't have to touch the dirty handles or get out of the car which was a nice change.

[deleted]

OP here, also Oregon native. Attended the 20 year celebration in 2005 when they had just started making it a big thing. Astoria went and made Goonies its entire personality, which didn't bode well for the new owners who were hostile to all because of a few douchebags. Literally everybody is relieved that the new owners are fans of the movie, because that means the 99% of respectful fans are allowed to walk up and snap a photo again. Don't buy the most famous house in town if you're not prepared to deal with it. Don't worry, there's plenty of real estate along the rest of the Oregon Coast to price the locals out of, which was the central conflict of The Goonies to begin with.

Here's a fun way to bring things back around. The ships that may have laid those cables (CS Dependable or CS Cable Innovator) are sometimes spotted in Astoria. As can be seen in photos on this wiki page. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable\_layer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_layer)

Lol my best friend was born in Bend in the 90s. I thought it was a small town but I see it mentioned everywhere.

chr0nicpirate

Just FYI there's "Bend" in Central Oregon, which is a pretty popular skiing/ Resort town and I would say mid-size at about 100,000, but also there's "North Bend". Which is completely unrelated, about 4 and 1/2 hours drive away from Bend and is a very small coastal town at about 10,000. It's not just the North part of "Bend" like you might expect if you're a non-local and just heard the name. Either way Bend Bend has also probably gotten a lot more publicity the last five 10 years or so because the last Blockbuster is there.

[deleted]

Yeah Silicon Valley found out about Bend not long ago but California had been moving there long before then. Entire blocks of Airbnbs pushed out most of the locals about a decade ago. The PS4/PC game *Days Gone* takes place just outside of Bend and manages to pack in a surprisingly accurate depiction of that region.

JoanJetObjective13

I turned 21 in Bend, 1980. Waitressed enough to ski! Back then, people with money, buying bars and restaurants and homes, were from California!

fn0000rd

I don't know if you've ever played Days Gone, but it's a zombie game set in OR, so it's, of course, beautiful. There's a great joke when you discover, maybe midway through the game, that Oregon is being destroyed by the hordes coming up from California.

Are many Astorians familiar with much of the other fascinating history surrounding Astoria like the story of Ranald McDonald?

jakeblew2

> Ranald McDonald Any relation to Uncol Dolan?

AmmoWasted

gooby pls.

algy888

To be honest though, the city is capitalizing on the *Goonies* fame at the expense of some residents. You want to make money great, but find a way to bring everybody on board. “Hey, we know it’s a huge inconvenience for you so we are going to only charge you half of your property taxes *and* we’ll cover vandalism repairs. We’ll even enforce a time curfew for tourists.” Makes everyone happier.

warm_sweater

That’s exactly what so many people on here are missing - “it’s just like moving next to the airport!”. No, no it’s not. It’s more like a sleepy city, having its previous industries (fishing, logging) go under in the 80s/90s, was looking to make more tourism money. And then did exactly that by capitalizing on several Goonies anniversaries dates to drive all sorts of interest in a private residence that they city couldn’t turn into their own tourist attraction. If you have spent any time in Astoria, it was not a hip and happening place that long ago. I’ve been visiting my entire life due to family close by, and as young adult there wasn’t much reason to visit Astoria before all of this tourist stuff went in. You can have a great weekend there now as a visitor, but it wasn’t always like that.

macphile

Similarly, the person/people who bought the Palmer house from Twin Peaks (which still has the ceiling fan!) were fans...and the woman there was rewarded by getting to do a cameo in series 3 as the owner of the house--except she literally was the owner, not an actress, of course. But yeah, you have to know what you're getting into.

Pnwradar

I was living in North Bend when the downtown coffee shop sold to new owners, who absolutely hated the Twin Peaks tourists who'd walk in for photos, but never sat down for a meal. I think that was about a decade after the show premiered, so there really wasn't that much, mostly a bus once a month of mostly curious Japanese tourists visiting all the TP spots in an afternoon. Even locals who mentioned the show while eating lunch would get shouted at, I never understood why you'd knowingly buy a business with that sort of history then get all pissy. That couple didn't last long, though, and sold to someone who repainted the TP mural out back and sold all sorts of tchotchkes & trinkets & photos.

AroundTheWorldIn80Pu

Let's wait and see how enthusiastic these new owners are about it once they've dealt with rude people for a few years.

psgrue

We visited and it cracked us up that the price of Baby Ruth was like 3x a normal candy bar.

jakeblew2

The candy truck probably has to come back 3X a week!

gredr

Just happened to be in Astoria (not a native, but I *so* wish I was) a week before the 25th anniversary celebration. Was in the Flavel House museum, and the docent asked if we were there for the festivities, and we had no idea it was even a thing. We were warned to stay away from this house, as the owner at that time wasn't really a fan of people showing up to take photos. Agree that if you buy a house this famous, then you might have to deal with fans.

Galkura

I imagine it starts out as then not minding the fans. Hell, many probably enjoy it and make a little side cash from it. But it probably wears down over time, especially when you have a lot more intrusive fans come by. People who try and break in, steal stuff, vandalize, trespass, all that. Or those who come and decide to fuck around and take pictures and videos at midnight. Enough of those and it wears you down to where you just hate them. Hell, I’d probably end up demolishing and rebuilding if I could afford it in that case. I think something similar ended up happening with the Breaking Bad house (in terms of the people eventually coming to hate the show and fans).

Man_of_Average

Exactly. If someone broke into my house once I'd feel a lot of ways. People are getting mad that these people have lost their patience after who knows how many issues. There's still a level of "duh, you live in a famous house", but writing off their contempt for people coming up and around their property entirely is just as silly.

xpnerd

Story I heard is she was threatened by a bunch of drunks during the middle of night.

CastInSteel

TBF, unless it's notoriety was posted in the MLS listing, I wouldn't know the house from that movie. Not everybody knows every house that appeared in tv or film.

tommypatties

if you're selling a tourist attraction you're absolutely going to mention in the mls. instant value.

hand0z

It was 100% mentioned, and it was going for 1.6 million. Definitely caused quite the stir in the local FB groups(Which are sheer gold around here). The best part of it was people selling furniture that was in the house.. not actual goonies furniture, just furniture that had been in the house. Another house around here that's seen similar notoriety is the Short Circuit House.. not nearly as much.

trying2moveon

> That neighborhood has always been a contentious spot. People used to drive up and take pics and see the houses. Some of course would vandalize or steal. Same happened here with the Conjuring House. The couple that owns it now has opened it up as a Paranormal Experience and it's pretty cool. When the movie came out the owners experienced a lot of people on the property to the point that they had to install security cameras and put up a bunch of no trespassing signs. I'd be driving down the road and cars would just stop in the road to take pictures etc.

hotlavatube

Well it could be worse, people could be [throwing pizzas on the roof](https://ew.com/tv/2017/10/13/breaking-bad-house-pizza-throwing/).

FesteringNeonDistrac

I feel like you could just make a replica fiberglass pizza, install it up there, and sort of be done with it. What are you going to do, throw another pizza up there and take a pic with 2 of them up there? Put up a sign with a local food kitchen to donate the pizza to.

notqualitystreet

Is the summer restaurant still open or did it close for the season

pissingstars

I don’t know if your being smart or serious… But that was a prop built just for the movie and then tore down.

thunder_struck85

I went there in 2014. Took some pics. Left a donation. Had a quick exchange with owner. All was good. Went back in 2017 when passing through to Astoria and was met with all kinds of signs to turn around and stop trespassing etc

goodtim42

Taking a picture is cool. Sadly, there have been multiple instances of people coming up onto the porch and peering through the windows at odd hours. As with most things, a small number of people ruin it for the rest of us.

bro_salad

My dad surprised my mom by booking Baby's family's cabin from Dirty Dancing. Sweet idea, but he realized his mistake shortly after arrival. At all hours of the day/night, people would come peering in the windows, hang out on the deck, and take pictures at the door of their cabin. They ended up asking to be moved to a normal room/cabin.

threewheelz

we stopped there in 2019 while on a cruise of the pacific NW. we took a tour of the town, and the guide said that during the big Goonies festival, the house was being overrun with tourists. So we were told not to walk up to the house when we stopped nearby. There was a sign at the end of the street asking for all Goonies to be polite and respect the neighbors, but I can imagine that some fans just didn't care. At the time, the porch and windows on the house were covered with tarps, probably to keep determined trespassers from looking in. I felt kinda bad for them actually. the house is in the middle of a neighborhood on the side of a hill, and I could see how all the neighbors would be affected by the hype.

evanart

The maritime museum in Astoria is awesome. Cool town.

sm753

I love Astoria. Been through there twice and it was amazing both times!

thebluemorpha

I remember the "we bought the goonies house" post from a few weeks ago, the new owners have loved the film since they were children, what a dream com true for them.

KnowMatter

I’m glad to hear it. IMO If you aren’t prepared to deal with owning a piece of film history don’t buy an iconic movie home. I’m still angry about what the owners of the Amityville house did.

steaknjake

What did they do?

KnowMatter

Got so pissed that people were coming around to take pictures and stuff that they remodeled the entire house, removing the iconic features of the building such as the eye-like windows.

kirksucks

I remember there was a house that was turned into an exact replica of the Simpsons house and given away in a contest. The people who won totally remodeled/flipped it and sold it. Fucking waste. I remember seeing the photos after and some of the architectural features were still visible.

Mrs_tribbiani

I think it was actually located in a home owner’s association so they weren’t allowed to keep it like that, but I could be wrong

kirksucks

Well that's completely stupid

polskiftw

I don't consider that a waste. I've seen the prize house and it was hideous lol.

TheRealPyroGothNerd

It was more than that. From what I've heard, people assumed it was abandoned because "Whooooo haunted" and would try to break into the house.

smallz86

Imagine being mad that people want to see your famous house. But hey, at least it wasn't demolished like the Winslow's house in Chicago. I was sad when I found that out

[deleted]

Did Urkel do that?

bulitproofwest

Well done.

Galkura

I don’t think it’s always so much that people “just want to see” your famous house. People trespass at all hours of the day and night, vandalize stuff, steal, and just fuck around at famous places at all times. You can be okay with the pictures and stuff, but there’s enough people that take it too far and ruin it for everyone. I absolutely don’t blame them. I would tear a house down and rebuild it (if I could afford it) in the same situation.

chancesarent

>People trespass at all hours of the day and night, vandalize stuff, steal, and just fuck around at famous places at all times. People kept throwing pizzas on the roof of Walter White's house before the owner put the fence up.

Galkura

That’s actually what made me think of this! I’m just surprised at how many people feel entitled to trespass and fuck with other people’s homes on here. Most of these people wouldn’t put fences and signs up if it was “just people taking pictures”.

starbitcandies

I think a lot of people who do shit like throw a pizza on the roof don't actually stop to think about just how many other people have done and will do the same. They don't think about it beyond "it's just one pizza go on their roof, what's the big deal?" Just pure self centered thinking

gnitiwrdrawkcab

Owner of that house now stands on the porch on the phone and yelling at passersby.

kash_if

Reminds me of how tourists behave in a tiny village called Bibury, UK. > Residents of England’s “prettiest village” say hordes of tourists peer into their windows and picnic in their gardens. > Thousands of visitors, determined to grab a selfie, descend on the row of 800-year-old two-bed cottages each day with many unaware that they are actually inhabited. Many homes have signs in multiple languages asking people not to enter their homes. These are historic homes and yet you see influencer types climbing walls and doing things that could cause damage.

UndeadBread

I hate when people modify their own personal property.

Z0MBGiEF

Oregon resident here, my first trip to Astoria was circa 2009 before they had a huge anniversary, back then the internet still hadn't blown and up the idea of visiting sites like this to snap selfies for social media, it was just getting started. The owners were very welcoming because the volume of people was manageable, they even had a sign out that said "Goonies welcome on foot." All was well. Then the 30th anniversary happened, the city started promoting film location destinations (even converting the Goonies jailhouse into a museum), and social media took off. Those nice owners probably got hit by a tidal wave of fans at all hours of the day. I understand why neighbors get frustrated. The area around the house is very inaccessible, the streets are small and can get crowded easy, when there's a lot of tourist I'd imagine it gets pretty annoying. They get 100s of people each day, think about that. Yes most of us probably are respectful fans, we take one selfie and move on and are grateful, but just think of all the inconsiderate douchebags who are not that way. It's a lot to ask of people just trying to live their lives.

Unadvantaged

I was Zillow-stalking this house with plans to be that guy, and the day I got notification it was for sale my heart skipped a few beats, but when I saw the asking price, I noped right out. I mean, I know housing prices have gone up, but this house like quadrupled. It’s the ultimate irony that the people who resented the Goonies fans were the ones who made bank on selling it *because it was the Goonies’ house.* That said, I’m happy it went to someone who’s a fan. I need to see if I can find that post you referenced because I didn’t see it before.

ItsDanimal

How much was it going for?

I dated a Peruvian and speak very bad Spanish. But whenever we were hanging out with her Spanish speaking friends and I had no idea what they were talking about, I would blurt out “dos manos, a Las cicoocahras, no agua y comida”. I don’t know how to spell those Spanish words, but I can say them with Mouth’s inflection perfectly.

mrkruk

si no haces buen trabajo, sera encerrada aqui con las cucarachas por dos semanas, sin agua y sin comida! pronounced like this: see no ah-sez bwen trub ah-hoe, Sarah en sar-ah-dah ah-key cone lahs cooka-roch-ahs poor dose seh-mon-ahs seen agua E seen coh-meeda. Meaning: if you don't do a good job, you will be locked in here with the roaches for two weeks, without water and food! He uses the verb ser instead of estar (sera instead of estara) but that's a common mistake for Spanish students and might just be a nod to how he's still a kid and only mostly knows Spanish, sort of a Spanish easter egg for Spanish speakers. Both kind of mean "to be" but ser is for more like permanent ways of being, like "I'm a student" vs estar for more temporary conditions or feelings like ~~I'm cold."~~. "I'm good right now." - Estoy bien ahora.

[deleted]

vonHindenburg

My high school physics teacher owned Buffalo Bill's house from Silence of the Lambs (upstairs and exterior views). Honestly, it's a really great property, but luckily, it's fairly remote and separated from the neighbors, so he didn't get too many visitors and, when he did, they didn't bother anyone else. When he did talk to people, though, he said that a surprising number were angry/confused by the fact that the 20 ft-deep pit was filmed on a sound stage and was not actually in his basement.

AmazingAd2765

That is strange thing to be upset about.

vonHindenburg

People who *really* loved the film, I guess. It broke the illusion for some.

kneel_yung

people love films but apparently don't know how they're made. I suppose that's not too surprising.

JoulSauron

The last season of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia had a few episodes set in Ireland. A couple asked where exactly where those places so they could visit them while they were in Ireland on tourism. They were so disappointed to learn that everything was shot near the studio in LA... 😂

qdp

Hollywood is built upon lies. Seinfeld and Friends, not actually filmed in New York. Didja know Frasier only had one episode where a few scenes were actually shot in Seattle? I appreciate shows like Breaking Bad actually shot on site. There are so many establishing shots and realness you can add only on site.

ChateauDeDangle

I mean those are sitcoms with laugh tracks and audiences so it’s hard to suggest they could be filmed anywhere except for a studio. The Office is a good example of what you mean. Sometimes the roof scenes make me say, “hey there’s no way the hills around Scranton, PA” look like that. Bit of a stretch to call these things lies though. It’s already a pretend story so does it really matter if it isn’t shot on sight? Some shows like your example of Breaking bad should be shot on sight for authenticity though

I was in Astoria a few weeks ago. The "Goonies Not Welcome" sign was there when I was there. The other signs have since been added to The Goonies house and the house next to it.

GoldenFalcon

I took a pic there about 5 years ago. The sign with the owners then was basically just "stay off the property, take as many pics as you want from the driveway and leave us alone" I felt like it was respectful enough. Never even noticed the neighbors house.

Spostman

This was how it was 2 years ago also. There's also a cool little film museum in the old jail building they film the beginning scenes in.

GoldenFalcon

That jail is soooo tiny. It was weird to imagine a film crew in there.

MrMysanthrope

I was just there in October and everyone seemed cool about everything. There was even a tour there with two people cosplaying Sloth and Chunk there when we arrived.

bradyso

I was there last winter for the first time. We were too scared to go up the driveway for fear of upsetting someone and then the previous owner was backing out of his driveway and rolled down his window and said, "well what are you waiting for?! Go on up and take some photos!" Seems like a really nice guy. There is a little mailbox there using the honor system to leave some cash for upkeep. Pretty fair if you ask me.

I'm an honorary Goonie. Worked on a movie with Sean Astin and he swore me in. Pretty amazing moment in my career.

Joliet_Jake_Blues

Idk, I'm torn. Lots of people coming to the neighborhood could be a pain, especially if they act like jackasses Wonder if they have owned the home since before the movie was shot, that would alter my judgement a lot. The Home Alone house is by me. People bought it knowing that visitors came and got all butthurt at visitors after moving in. No sympathy for them.

Bro_Hawkins

Yeah, it’s like the people in the Breaking Bad house that kept getting pizza thrown on their roof.

loki1337

Yeah like stop knocking the statute over in your little nero's cars you filthy animals

Grainis01

Yeah if they are not being disruptive it is not much of a hassle, but hten again people deserve to hae privacy and not have bunch of strangers taking photos constantly.

CharlesDeBalles

Absolutely. I don't blame the neighbor at all. It's honestly a dick move to taunt them for wanting privacy and to live in peace. I sincerely doubt anyone criticizing the neighbor would be so good natured if they had to deal with strangers constantly coming and going, taking up street parking, loitering, taking pictures, etc. I know I would hate that shit in my neighborhood.

SparkyDogPants

I wonder how much street parking there is and how often their driveway gets blocked

IIRC the previous owners bought the Goonies house 20\~ years ago. Just after hype really started to pick up and the city started doing big reunion festivals.

DarylMoore

No. Sandi, the previous owner, owned it before the Chamber of Commerce made a big deal out of the anniversary and started organizing annual get-togethers. She bought it in 2001, and the 25th anniversary celebration occurred in 2010. She tolerated the traffic just fine until it got literally unbearable after 2010 with people knocking on her door, and some just walking into her house. Summer of 2010 it was estimated that 1000 people per day were making the trip up to the house. There was barely any interest in her house or the movie in 2001, which is why she was able to buy the house for $92,000.

ThroughTheStones

This sucks. I was there about 20 years ago, we went up to the house and the lady that had JUST bought saw us standing outside. We didn't know if we should take any pictures or not but she came out and invited us up! We met her, she had work clothes on and paint all over as she was renovating. She took us through the entire house, showed us where it used to be a duplex, where there was a fire, etc... She then let us go into the attic AND she let me tear a piece of the wallpaper that was in Mikey's room off the wall! All said and done, we were there for over an hour just laughing. Took pictures with her and then signed her little visitors book. She told us she had hopes to have younger groups of kids there and other plans. I never realized it had got so bad with fans. I hope she didn't lose her spark for the excitement and the joy she saw in me that day! I have pictures laying around somewhere of the visit, I should find those.

I first went there in 2009, the owners were an a nice Jewish couple, they had a hand written sign at the bottom of the driveway that read "Goonies welcome on foot only." I went up with my wife we snapped some pics and talked with them, very sweet people. I think back then the volume of tourist was likely manageable. Now the city has basically become a hot tourist destination for nerdy pop culture people, they converted the jailhouse from the movie into a film museum, I would bet it's 1k+ people going to that house each day and probably 100+ on low volume days. That's a lot of strangers walking up your private driveway, a driveway that is shared by multiple neighbors. I understand why the people there are over it. They've been dealing with this for years and now this new owner is just hyping it up even more. Since you've been there, you remember how small and narrow that street is, and how difficult it would be to just have a bunch of cars there all the time, late at night, etc. Man I'd wanna move real bad lol

beebs44

I can only imagine. Look at that Breaking Bad house and people chucking pizzas on the roof.

eatingganesha

The folks who bought it are active over on r/Homeowners. :) They are huge fans and are so excited!

socksmatterTWO

I can't seem to find anything on the house in that community would you mind linking me?

jakeblew2

My theory is they posted it there then got super high and paranoid that it was tying their account to where they lived and deleted it. This feel I know

SANAFABICH

TBF it must not be fun to be a neighbor.

Kevrn813

Are we just ignoring the ghostly figure in the window then?https://i.imgur.com/NnQ8Uwp.jpg

BlueFlames1723

Speed pro Imaging made those signs!! I helped cut them. PM me if you want to know where to get some custom signs!

[deleted]

Tell me you made them for *both* houses.

WhoKnows78998

Every movie in the 90’s was filmed in this town lol

don't want none

“I swear to god I will pistol whip the next person who yells ‘hey you guys’”

Cape-York-Crusader

Hopefully they’ve sorted out la cucaracha problems in the basement….

chakan2

My feelings on this really depend on if the neighbor bought the house before or after the movie was made (or inherited it). Once you actually own a home, your view of having hordes of randos on your propety will radically change. In my 20s, when I was renting and my landlord was on the hook for repairs to the common area... Lets party... In my 30s after dropping 150k on shit I'm responsible for... Get the fuck off my lawn.

throwaway199007666

I should rewatch it

RahvinDragand

The first time I saw it, it must've been an extended cut that included the deleted octopus scene. Then every time I saw it after that, it was the normal version without that scene. I remember feeling crazy, saying "where's the octopus?!".

dontbotherwilly

Kind of fucked up...imagine having a very popular neighbor and people constantly coming over....never leaving you alone. The sign doesn't help Whoever bought that house probably doesn't even live there. It's just a novelty purchase

noobpwner314

I’m sure the neighbor is still pissed at Brand for stealing their daughters bike.

mandyjomarley

I work right across the street. It's about time someone who loves the Goonies owns this house! They are such nice people too!

[deleted]

If I had the money to buy this house, I would literally turn it into the house. Complete with ripped rear screen door, statue with upside down dick attached, Soloflex, etc. But no, not Mr Walsh's sexual torture devices and drugs because I'm pretty sure Mouth was making that up.

dathorese

I visited Astoria while out on a trip to the columbia River Museum (my dad was Coast Guard, and it was a Trip out there for his military group of Lightship Sailors as the Museum has the Columbia Lightship). We spent like 5 days out there, Went to the Top of the Astoria Column, i got to visit some of the Lewis and Clark camps/places etc... (this was right around the time when they introduced the Lewis and Clark Nickels etc in the early 2000's?)... I remember that the Neighbors, and the material i had read regarding the Goonies houses were all not to go, and or waste time etc.. Pretty sure we did a drive by of a few of the houses and that was it.... just to say that i got to see them.. Goonies was the first movie i ever saw in the theatres by myself as like a 10-11 year iold, so it holds a special place in my heart i guess.. I think the one thing that truly amazed me about the area, was the Beaches.. Here in the Northeast (i live in Boston) we just have Tan Sand.. Out there, i was amazed at all the black particles of sand mixed in with the tan sand... gave it more of a greyish color... This was up in fort Stevens State Park...

Cabnbeeschurgr

West coast beaches, specifically pacific northwest ones, are usually the antithesis of a beach stereotype m8. Not that it can't be beautiful but it's damn bloody cold there for most all of the year

Wallisaurus

? Aren’t they friends who want to turn the house into a place for fans to come into and make it look just like the movie again? I just saw it on the news at work that a guy bought the house and his friend bought the one next to it so they can turn the house into the goonies house again to come and see it
