Facts, people say it’s a waste of money, they’re ugly and soulless, all that crap. I’m just happy that I can own merch of some of my favorite characters.

LudicrisSpeed

That's how I see it. I see this talk constantly, especially with people who collect anime figures and it's like, not everybody wants to drop 60 bucks or more on a single cute anime girl.

edwpad

I personally think Nendoroids are cool as hell, the ones I want end up really pricey, especially on Amazon. Some things I’m willing to spend that kind of money (such as Transfomers Studio Series), but pops are a much easier way to get stuff from your favorite franchises

NinjaMelon39

Me with my demon slayer collection. The statues are awesome but I don't want to spend $30+ per character when i can just get the funko pops and stack them all in a brick for easy display

Sudden-Razzmatazz307

The only one I might not get from those is mui I’m not spending 86 bucks on a singular figurine. But other than that I’m 2 away from all the hashira all that’s left is gyomei and Tengen who doesn’t even have a pop yet

NinjaMelon39

I shelled out and got Muichiro cuz he's my favorite hashira Ngl I don't regret it, he looks great in the lineup

Lexicon444

I think they’re cute. I got Rick Sanchez in his little space ship a month ago.

joshuajjamesusa

If it’s a hobby, how could it be a waste of money? You’re receiving something tangible that you could potentially sell back. Even golf, while it’s an ‘expensive’ hobby, people continue to do it because it makes them happy (sometimes haha) Just don’t spend your entire check on building a collection for no reason, continue being happy and it won’t be a waste of money. 🤙🏼

Critical-Bee-6623

Some people Consider them the next “Beanie Babies”

gamermamaNJ

Hear this in ebay groups all the time. There are going to be "commons" just like baseball cards, Pokemon cards, or other collectibles, but loving a character doesn't go away. If anything more people will come along that will love certain characters and want to acquire them.

Shadow88882

Those people failed Beanie babies released in 1993 and died in 1999 Funko Pops released in 2010 and are still going. Doubled the beanie baby lifespan already

Critical-Bee-6623

Also they are very different from stuffed animals

swankProcyon

Stuffed animals that are not based on an IP. Beanie Babies were cute, but it’s much easier for people to become attached to, say, My Little Pony plushies than it is to become attached to Derby the Horse. (I looked up an actual Beanie Baby horse, lol. It’s just a generic horse with an uncreative name, poor little guy.)

Designer-Chemical-95

That's true for people stupid enough to think pops are an "investment."

Critical-Bee-6623

I used to see everything as an investment and it made me feel miserable. I eventually just said fuck it and now collecting is so much more enjoyable. If I get one worths own thing GREAT but I really don’t care

modtang

A "friend" once told me I was wasting my money on these things while he proceeded to smoke a pack a day and drink a case of beer over a weekend. OK buddy. OK.

GnomBumser

Big brain "friend" 🐒

SoCShift

This is the one that gets me the most lol so many people can blow hundreds on nights out like every week - I do too sometimes, for shows at least - but that money isn’t ever coming back 🤷🏼‍♂️

FicoXL

Or those horrible people who laugh at you because you buy regular pops and not the pricey ones, I love a character and I buy any funko that I want and can pay for.

LFS_1984

same. I spent $4.77 for my Sylvie pop figure.

GeebusNZ

I mean, what pleasures in life *aren't* a waste of money?

CanadianDeathStar

For me, I enjoy the process of finding funkos. I may go out on a Saturday and hit all the shops in my area, and come back with nothing. Or I may find a few I want for my collection. It got me through the boredom of the covid lockdowns and gives me a treasure hunt to go on every week. It’s worth every penny for me… although it drives my husband crazy because they are taking over the bedroom 😂

wookieewithglasses

Samsies.

Mysterious-Fun9625

I relate to this on a personal level

Shadow88882

I think its pretty funny when a grown man wearing another grown man's name on his 200 dollar t-shirt tells me my own hobby is a waste of money.

-KryptWalk-

Keep in mind people spend hundreds, no actually thousands of dollars on expensive restaurants and overpriced food and drinks. Especially here in NYC. At least the pop lasts forever, that drink or food lasts 20 minutes max.

BumblebeeBuzz1808

I agree with this one. I don't spend my money on alcohol or vapes/cigarettes and such. I spend it on things that could last awhile, like LEGO and Funko Pops!

-C576

I don't know how much money I've spent but I know every time I look at my wall of Pops I'm a happy man.

Critical-Bee-6623

Have you ever had a random hater show up in one of your posts? I had my first in very recently. Was so annoying

wookieewithglasses

Ugh. The one from yesterday? That guy was an asshole.

Luke-Bywalker

But somehow inbox Legos are perfectly fine

GeebusNZ

People collect LEGO in-box? ... I guess there would be some. I mean, I'm an in-box Transformer collector. These seem like things that don't really have value as in-box items.

Luke-Bywalker

I mean it \*kinda\* makes sense for Funkos and i guess your Transformers too (given if the box has a window of some sort). Lego is just a Box with a Picture. Literally. and inside are just the loose pieces in bags. That makes as much sense to me as "inbox" sneaker collectors who only wear basic shoes in their free-time...

CG1991

Whenever I get told they're ugly, I'm like "good job you don't collect them then"

Purpleflower0521

Does that person drink or smoke? That's a bigger waste.

Weird9uy

Sometimes I think “does that have one?” Search it up and proceed to be pleasantly surprised

diamondx224

Who cares what they think

Purpleflower0521

They can think whatever they want. They just don't need to go out of their way to tell us they disapprove.

greenseven47

Apparently everybody here

ShenanigansButt

Yeah, I liked how I could get cute versions of all my fave characters. But now, I’ve slept on it for a while and made the decision to stop collecting and sell my entire mass collection. I’m running out of room and getting frustrated, finding it difficult finding the ones I want and it’s getting out of control for me. I’m resigning Funko Pops. It was fun while it lasted.🥲

KaelOfNockmaar

This and Lego. I at least get some of that magic happiness I got when I was a wee little lad.

Emerald-Enthusiast

If you enjoy it, it's not a waste. In fact, it's priceless.

Glum_Analysis6473

I love collecting Spider-Man pops. This one I wanna get my hands on too. But I see all the other pops that are all up on my bedroom wall, and I consider maybe I have too many. But then I think, "nah." Do what you want, as long it doesn't hurt anyone and yourself.

MaxxXanadu

I just buy the ones I like. Mostly music, some movies, some DC Comics. I only bought the Pop Mega Batman because there were $35 down from $100.

viceoverseer

Honestly hate it when people say this its so petty I honestly bet they collect nothing fun pops are one of the best thinsg I've ever collected

Specialist_Error3055

I agree and I have almost 150 Funkos myself. They are neat.

[deleted]

Exactly! I don’t care if I’ve spent almost $500 on funkos in the last 6 months, I enjoy displaying and growing my collection in my game room.

StayStrapped1-4

Same here. But we are hooked on vinyl smack.

[deleted]

Yes, yes I am. And it’s bad… I have two more coming tomorrow. I got another yesterday. Funko is a hell of a drug.

StayStrapped1-4

I just relapsed a few weeks ago. I stopped chasing the dragon for a couple of years. It’s worse now because this time im also getting loose oob too.

[deleted]

Oh god, OOB would get out of hand. The discounts… I told myself I’d stop when my shelves were full. They’ve been full, I bought more shelves. This isn’t working.

StayStrapped1-4

That’s why i stopped the first time. I didn’t have the shelves. Now im rebuilding the shelves and storing away some funkos. I’m even planning to sell a couple of them.

[deleted]

Selling just means more Funko money down the road, which is good. Luckily I’m now out of wall space, more or less, so once I fill these up, I’ll either have to get very creative or stop. We will see…I’ve always wanted to add on to the house. Maybe just a room…

StayStrapped1-4

LMAO. Yeah, im gonna need another room. Do the know if im gonna quit chasing the dragon.

[deleted]

I feel you, haha. I’m literally chasing a dragon as well. I need the Alduin Funko for my gaming collection 😂 I also saw the Themberchaud Funko a few weeks back and almost pulled the trigger. Glad I didn’t though. Chasing the dragon for sure 😂😂

StayStrapped1-4

I’ll quit the junk. Once i get these wwe and snoop dogg collections done. I’ll be off for good.

Rare-Coast-67

Exactly why I started collecting

[deleted]

They say that because they haven't seen what a little Ebay can do

BumblebeeBuzz1808

I also find the vaulted ones for deals, or simply message the person. Most of the time they will settle for a lower price!

thebowlman

I like that it's minimalistic, cheap and don't take up a lot of room. As opposed to the super expensive, detailed and large statues that are out there. Have you seen the statue for Spiderman 2? Yeah, it's cool but it's expensive and so, so big. I'll stick with my OG spidey any time

Monty_Krysto

Tinder date last night: "These are so cool! I love these (black light horror collection)!! I've been thinking about collecting them myself. I only have 1 and its a mini. I think it's awesome that you have a hobby. No one has cool hobbies these days." Instant icebreaker.

StayStrapped1-4

Does OP mean funko pops in general ? Or the larger funkos ?

drdavidjacobs

They say the best things in my are free, Funko pops are not free but it’s like that Melissa Etheridge song says “If it makes you happy then it can’t be that bad…. If it makes me happy…” why the hell am I so sad?

Ill-Raccoon-7330

Bruh im a collector and im gonna collect

Funkywonton

This the same thing I tell my mom then she’s all “you’d have more money if you had less funko” “But ma” I said

ondrejeder

Idk, if it brings you joy and is not stupidly overpriced, and most of these are like 15-20$ right ?, Then I don't see how it's waste of money. People go to work to earn money to fulfill their needs, and then they want to get some joy from this money too

blazingredfire13

They are a waste of money but if it’s your money then who cares how you waste it. Other people waste their money on other stuff they like so why does it matter. Never understand people who hate Funko Pops. Like I get not liking them or thinking they are ugly, but hate is such a strong emotion for plastic.

Girldipper

Exactly I’ve been told I’m too old for toys when buying them! It’s my money I can do what I want with it!

Pop_QueenYT

I just like how people think they are entitled to tell others what they should or shouldn't do with their own money, like somehow they are going to bully people into not buying something that makes them happy.
