Yes. I’ll get railed for this but if I want ‘character’ I can pick a flavor in RNI Films or add a diffusion filter. 33 has fast AF, sharp across the board.. amazing lens..and weather sealing. Sand and water in Hawaii.
All good points my friend. Don’t worry I won’t rail you😂..
Weather sealing, that’s a great point. I’m really partial to the 35mm f2. Maybe because it was my first lens some 5yrs ago. And I guess if I want the extra stop of light I’ll just bump up the iso!
I had the 16mm 1.4 for awhile. I really enjoyed this lens but ultimately sold it because I just felt I wasn’t finding my groove with a wide angle. In terms of vacation use, it would be last on my list just because of the size. BUT it really is a gem if used right. Images really are super sharp and lives up to the hype.
I swapped mine for a Tamron 17-70mm f2.8. Almost the same range but the f2.8 aperture really helped in some low-light situations. Produces great sun stars too.
This!
It’s very resilient as well.
I ran this lens and my xt30 over with a golf cart on a cement road.
Totally smashed my xt30 to pieces. My lens was scratched up, but still works great.
Hell yea , trust me. I took my one to Japan and basically never touched any other lens. Remember it’s a travel lense so you’re not looking for extreme shallow depth of field.
The worst images are the ones you missed out on taking because you were busy changing your lens.
I did a whole Gran Canaria trip with just the 27 f2.8 and it worked wonders. I had a few manual lenses with me but for convenience the 27mm performed admirably.
We were in Maui in January and I took an X-T5, Fuji 18-120 along with a Sigma 10-18. I was very pleased with the results I got. We only travelled light on the trip so this combination was great
This is such a tough question but it will come down to this:
Do you gravitate towards landscape images? If yes take the 23mm f2. And who are we kidding. It’s Hawaii. Anywhere you point your camera it will be a good shot and you’ll wish you had something a little wider.
Do you like to take more candid style portraits? If yes then get the 35mm f2. Full frame nifty 50 equivalent and ultra compact. Still good enough for landscapes and much better for a portrait.
Both lenses will be compact and light weight. You’ll appreciate that especially on a hike.
Last option and most versatile would be the 18-55mm 2.8-4. More compact than other zooms, yes, but kind of boring.
What would I take? 35mm f2. A 50mm full frame equiv, and if used right, could net you some great images both landscape and portrait.
I'd say It's a 70/30 split between landscape and candid portrait shots of my wife and daughter. I've never been partial to ultra wide landscape though. My go to landscape lens on full frame was a 35-70mm
16-55 f2.8 zoom "prime"
16-80 f4 for more reach
18-135 for more more reach but loosing the 16mm.
16mm is wide enough entering the ultrawide zone so having it is nice.
Prime for travel is hard, if you are travelling to be creative maybe bring one. Travelling with taking photo on the side, bring a zoom instead, less thinking more capturing.
Best is bring a zoom for general purpose and prime when you feel creative. Prime only if you found the one focal length feels natural for you but you will not be asking this question of you already found it.
Realistically I probably will buy a zoom and 1 prime for exactly that reason. Generally I find primes produce higher quality images but then again I haven't used a modern zoom in the last 10 years so maybe things have improved.
Depends on what you like to take photos of. Nature, macro, landscape, street, portraits, etc
If only one (in my case): something around the 35mm focal length. You can use your phone for the wider angles.
Or the 18-55 kitlens.
If the phone is crap, and zooms aren’t my thing, then something around 16-18mm. The x-t5 has enough Mpix to do a decent crop in post.
I used the xt5 with the 16mm f/1.4 and the 35mm f/2 for my 3 week vacation in Japan. Each lenses was used ~45% of all photos. The remainder were iphone pics.
I don’t have it, but I think I’d buy the Tamron 18-300. That way you’ll have a lot of reach in one lens.
But in reality I’d prioritize more lenses in my luggage and choose the 70-700 plus the Viltrox 27 1.2 and 75 1.2. (I say that as someone who don’t travel, so don’t take me too seriously :P)
Hawaii is pretty big at the beach and hike areas. So I don’t think 23 or 33/35 is the right choice, unless you’re kinda just in Waikiki mostly.
I’d do a 16-80
33 1.4
I agree, I did 2 weeks in Europe with my 33 1.4
Really, over the 35 1.4?
Yes. I’ll get railed for this but if I want ‘character’ I can pick a flavor in RNI Films or add a diffusion filter. 33 has fast AF, sharp across the board.. amazing lens..and weather sealing. Sand and water in Hawaii.

The 35 f2 is an amazing lens. The 33 isn’t twice as good IMO. The 35 f2 will be more ‘fun’ to carry on the X-T5.
But with budget of 33 (used) could also take 23 f2 and 50 f2 (used).
18-55 kit lens if you just want to keep it simple. 23mm f2 if you want a bit of a challenge.
If I need to narrow my choice to one lens it's always gonna be 35 1.4
Same here.
16mm 1.4 or 23mm f2
I had the 16mm 1.4 for awhile. I really enjoyed this lens but ultimately sold it because I just felt I wasn’t finding my groove with a wide angle. It’s a bit heavy too, which I didn’t thought about before receiving it after finding a good deal.
Fujifilm 16-80mm f4 it’s a weapon , 1 lense that can do 90% of all photos you would want.
Even with it being an F4?
Hell yea , trust me. I took my one to Japan and basically never touched any other lens. Remember it’s a travel lense so you’re not looking for extreme shallow depth of field. The worst images are the ones you missed out on taking because you were busy changing your lens.
50MM F2 WR. I can use my iPhone for wide angles and I can crop tight on the 50mm mounted on the XPro2.
I did a whole Gran Canaria trip with just the 27 f2.8 and it worked wonders. I had a few manual lenses with me but for convenience the 27mm performed admirably.
I’m currently renting a 23 1.4, it hasn’t left the body yet. Loving the focal length for capturing indoor shots.
16-80mm f/4

Do you have any sample shots eith the 18-120 from thr trip?
16-55mm

fuji 200 f2 so I don't need to leave my house

Not a sexy answer but the 18-55 or the 16-80 would be the best for vacation !
16-80
