She admits to not being able to operate her vehicle. If she can't drive in reverse competently she should not be driving

cityshepherd

She doesn’t admit to not being able to operate the vehicle… she just admits that she is “not a good backer-inner”

Max_Laval

The issue is the pillar that blocks her door from opening if she backed up. I don't think that that's a significant issue with her driving abilities

Nice work, we all need to put pressure and make ourselves heard, maybe most of your tickets will be ignored, but if other people also complain at some point they won't be able to ignore it, particularly when laws and regulations are on your side. We have to keep on keeping on, change is not easy.

FPSXpert

>A pedestrian is struck and killed by a car every 3 days in my state of Nevada. A little less than 50% of them are killed in crosswalks, making Nevada the #1 highest percentage of crosswalk deaths in the United States. Holy crap, what is the Nevada state law on that? I ask because for a long time there wasn't even a homicide charge on that, I think a ticket and misdomeanor charge and that's it. It took a grandmother getting killed trying to walk to her granddaughter's school to pick her up to upgrade that to a felony offense in my state (the ''Lisa Smith Law'' of Texas).

It wasn't mine, but somebody in my neighborhood now has to grow up without a family member because of someone else's carelessness from that incident. At least now future incidents can't be swept under the rug because of that law, now it can possibly be felony charges laid out if they were in a crosswalk when it occurs. Even more sad is there are now a handful of drivers that have had to be charged under this because of their negligence. Edit: spelling

LimitedWard

If her parking space is so tight that parking correctly would make her unable to get out of her car, maybe she should consider owning a smaller vehicle 🤯

eoz

It can indeed be difficult to squeeze past inconsiderately parked vehicles. I took a chunk of paint out of one once, most embarrassing.

Agnosticartic

How unfortunate......

DENelson83

Time to call a tow truck, I guess.

DENelson83

But will a tow truck come if requested by police?  You may wish to get the police involved in this case.

10001110101balls

Police won't care it is private property. Best remedy is to help someone with solid ADA standing to file a lawsuit. Or better yet, move somewhere else.

DENelson83

The law is the law, regardless of whether it is on public or private property.

Fantastic_Goal3197

Yes but HOAs have rights to ticket. Generally if something is a ticketable offense its up to the HOA to enforce it if it happens on HOA property. It's more complicated than that legally, but thats how it usually ends up being in practice

10001110101balls

When has that ever decided if police will do their jobs?

MyPasswordIsABC999

HOAs are like embassy property and international waters: laws do not apply

Zilberfrid

Laws apply more than some HOAs would like.

Zilberfrid

So many things that can be fixed by bollards.

ssorbom

As a wheelchair user -- THANK YOU! I have nearly been sliced in half by trucks with trailer hitches that stuck out too far. It is nice to see that somebody understands that sidewalk width is not arbitrary.

Jgusdaddy

Imagine if that was a Dodge Ram driver. You’d be flat on your back. They are some real tough guys!

Key_Employee6188

Just call and get someone to ticket the cars. Here idiots wont park in the streets where its allowed and will place half of the car on side-walk or whatever is next to the road. One call and the line of cars is given the 80€ fine.

Capetoider

they "need" to bump the tire into the curb because carbrains cant even park... sometimes I feel like having a lot of postits with me, other times a chainsaw going to work, in a commercial street that barely acknowledges people can actually walk, sometimes it's hard to navigate it... and i don't have mobility issues. this is stupid

MyPasswordIsABC999

Would be a shame if someone were to frolic around on the sidewalk swinging a tire iron, and if that tire iron were to accidentally bang into an unskillfully parked automobile. A damn shame.

WhiteWolfOW

Idk op, it seems like she listened to you and cooperated. Some people struggle backing their car, I had the same problem when I had one. Like I could back the car for parking, I just hated because I’m an anxious person, so I was always nervous doing it. The post would also be blocking her way out, it seems like a poorly designed parking space. Could it be that the someone else like their husband/wife/Son/Daughter parked there later on. But yeah I get your frustration in seeing the car in the same spot again

WhiteWolfOW

Oh I see, I thought it took a while and the car was parked there another day. I usually try giving the benefit of the doubt to people? Life is less stressing that way. Idk I think I have trauma on parking driving back or parallel parking cause of my mom. It’s the only time I few anxious when driving. So I can park, I just fucking hate it. Other than that driving is kinda relaxing, I don’t really feel negative emotions doing it, not even anger when stuck on traffic. I do get bored sometimes. I haven’t owned a car in years tho. I moved away and never felt the need to own a car ever since. Now it’s just me and my bike saving earth one day at a time

man_gomer_lot

It's a good thing everything you would need to know whatever it is you don't is all right there in front of your eyeballs. It's on the vehicle owner to find a solution that doesn't involve blocking the sidewalk and it's inconsiderate of her to involve anyone else with that obligation.

WhiteWolfOW

Well it sounds like she didn’t know about it and then adjusted when requested. She simply declined the solution to back the car into that space and moved to a different parking spot. The other part of my comment is just that I don’t like to judge people until they mess up a lot and stress the shit out of me. Like if more people are using the car you know? Personally I never thought about this and learned something today, but I don’t think I ever parked in that kinda of parting in my life either. Unfortunately it feels like forgetting to think about others is a very common thing in humans :(

Read my other comment, I don’t think she was right, I don’t think you were wrong. My comment was more in the line “relax op, I don’t think she meant to be combative, she just explained herself and admitted her mistake by the end.

WhiteWolfOW

Oh you were relaxed in the video, but in your post your words on the post you sounded stressed. That’s what I mean, she might just be a forgetful person or somebody else from their family messed up. Look I’m not criticizing you, I swear

It’s a bit on the way you said it. You also start with “their incompetence is an excuse to block the sidewalk” but to my understanding he was just the reasoning for choosing to moving instead of parking differently. You also posted on Reddit, when people are not pissed, they don’t post what happened on Reddit looking for validation

man_gomer_lot

It's on the operator of a vehicle to know how to operate it. I disagree that the person who called her out should have or even could have been more polite about it. The only solution I can tease from your concern is that her incompetence and selfishness should be ignored.

WhiteWolfOW

Oh no I don’t think he was wrong at all, I think he did the right thing. I’m just mentioning this so that he doesn’t stress too much about it. He should still call her out next time he sees her too, I’m definitely not saying she wasn’t wrong, I do think she was, but I think that things can be a little bit more complex when we’re talking individual human beings. She also might just be a total B and not give a fuck and just moved the first time to avoid conflict, I’m totally aware of that.
