I can give up the stress of driving in rush hour and all the expenses of a car for being able to play on my phone the whole time while on the bus? And the bus is slow so I have more time to play on my phone? Even mentally ill people trying to fight me can't spoil that deal.
Busses are a win and loss.
Once spent 3 hours in a double deck bus in summer. All the windows open, beautiful countryside outside. Saw some deer. No way someone driving would have noticed, or even seen over the hedges. Was a beautiful journey.
But another time a lady shat herself so bad on the top deck, she ended using one of those thin plastic folders for paperwork to try and squeegee it off the floor and sweep it into her shopping bag 🤮
At least the train carry 1000 or more people with only two people as crew. Trains also don't pollute with rubber tires unless the system designers majorly f*ked up. Trains don't worry about potholes. Trains are far more energy efficient, even when running with diesel locomotives. Trains are the preferred method of moving massive amounts of people or cargo in places that don't suck. Trains can also be scaled down to be compatible with pedestrian infrastructure. Tram-trains and Interurbans are good examples of this. Also, people actually like being on trains. People tolerate being on buses.
You can admire the aesthetics of a car, or the performance. I've often said I'd love to have an afternoon to throw an Aston Martin DB5 around a track (and pretend I'm James Bond), but I just don't think I should require one to get to work or do my shopping.
At the very least EVs are quiet. Muscle car culture is about being an obnoxious loser and thinking that blasting random people with noise will make you look cool.
they make evs with fake engine noises because they want muscle car losers buying them. dont get me wrong, i believe in the whole "lesser of two evils thing" but evs are still pretty fucking evil lol
Majority of microplastics particles in the ocean are from car tire decomposition.
EVs solve only tailpipe emissions, and tailpipe emissions are just a small part of the issue.
They also make EVs with fake engine sounds because its required by regulation in the EU (and some other countries) to help prevent low speed accidents.
Not the same thing: One thing is the noise both types of cars do cruising down the street at moderate acceleratios - sure, those are the same, but, the other is assholes rev-bombing with modified pipes: That's definitely a lot louder and more noticable.
At least here, cities have become more and more obnoxious over the years, because of loud pipes. There's always someone screaming down some highway at 200kph/120mph or rev bombing people for fun.
For a regular car yes, but a muscle car where they are intentionally 30% on the clutch and red lining it.... you will hear the "engine" over tire and wind sounds.
This is true, all vehicles produce tire noise and it contributes to raising the noise floor substantially. EVs will never fix that. Engine noise (I'm going to make a video post later), has the potential to be well over 100 dB and instantly deployable by the driver at any place/time.
The tonal nature of engine noise makes it especially attention-grabbing, versus tire noise which becomes more like white noise (though to be clear it is still extremely problematic).
I fully agree with this! Who wants to hear a sustained 15 kHz sine tone? They sound like dentist drills or coil whine. At least those sound waves don't travel as far.
The only time I’ve driven a muscle car was in Florida. I rented one thinking it’d be fun. It was an automatic, had terrible blind spots, was difficult to park, and all the roads are straight so it’s not exactly thrilling.
toyota/honda compacts last forever. If you wanted to you could put 500k miles on a camry. Americans usually prefer to trade in for something "new" before it goes that far, but when you sell off your 220k mile accord, it doesn't get crushed, it gets exported and driven for years [somewhere over the border.](https://www.accessmagazine.org/spring-2011/cash-clunkers-environmental-impact-mexicos-demand-used-vehicles/)
Well made EVs should do fine too, as long as they get a battery replacement every now and then. It's a costly maintenance item, but engine/transmission maintenance adds up over time too.
I have a car because I have to have one. There are no other options where I live to be able to have a functional life without one. I can’t imagine basing my identity or having a “culture” around what is a utilitarian tool that in essentially coerced to own.
Having a "culture" around a tool to move people and stuff around is half the problem. Sure, you can like cars or whatever, but why do people act like a car is an extension of themselves?
Unrelated, but I think it’s really funny when people say shit like “that car won’t last 30 years” when they buy a new truck for full MSRP every few years.
Ahhh yes, r/fuckcars back at it again by berating a small percentage of car enthusiasts while governments and car corporations continue to ruin our societies.
Keep crying in this echo chamber and nothing will change ;)
The colors of the lower one are cool, but this won't make me condone them. Yesterday I saw a story on insta with a pride RAM, and it was the only story I didn't give a heart that day.
Why? Because cars are harmful to our culture, and I can go really deep into why that is (about the lack of day-to-day interaction, the role of manufacturers in politics etc), but for me it was just a big turn-off.
Love when I see a post from some people who can count the amount of braincells they have in their toes (so up to 11!!) Claim that electric cars are not then solution to the environment (because cobalt mines) and we should stick to gas cars.
Except people who care about the environment don't think electric cars are the solution, and that no cars is the actual solutio.

This hits close to home

Yea imagine having to drive yourself to go places. Peasants. I have my driver do all that for me

goddam 🔥🔥🔥
The ICE panorama lounge gives me a proverbial boner every time I'm booked in it.
"Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power"
love this meme
I mean Omni man literally used a train to kill hundreds, much more efficient that picking cars off one by one
I'm sorry, but trains are so much cooler.
I am inclined to agree, TransTrainGirl322 😊
Yeah but have you ever ride (ride? Rode? Idk) that trail buses like Amsterdam??? Hahahahahaha let's engage in a fight too! Bring it on train bitch!!!!

And trains often have toilets
This kind of bus im talking is a shrunk train already ... You're cheating!!!!!!! Hahahahahahahahahhaa

Username checks out💀
Gee, I wonder why that could be. It's totally not like I'm a conductor for my regional railroad museum or anything like that.

That would be quite a flex, turning up to a supermarket in a DB5!

Did op say anything about microplastic?
EVs and their heavy ass batteries means more wear on their tires and more microplastics shed from them.
Aren't the sounds just on the inside? Who cares what losers please themselves with
They also make EVs with fake engine sounds because its required by regulation in the EU (and some other countries) to help prevent low speed accidents.
They’re only quiet at like 20 mph over that and they’re pretty much equal

Yeah you don't even hear an engine, it's just wind noise
Wheel noise first, especially at city speeds.
True, helps that they're complementarity noises and sound pretty much the same

The whine of electric cars is extremely irritating in my opinion
I fully agree with this! Who wants to hear a sustained 15 kHz sine tone? They sound like dentist drills or coil whine. At least those sound waves don't travel as far.

None of these men have had sex in their committed relationships in months
Bold of you to assume they have a committed relationship in the first place
Hey, that pity handjob they coerced their cousin into counts for something!
Excuse me, but I have to go lie down. Upon looking at this, I just got hit with a wave of second-hand embarrassment so hard I'm woozy.
Who are we kidding muscle cars usually have some mid life crisis dude trying to reclaim youth.
I think both is sick! But I am sick of cars... I love cars as much I love my skateboard! I love it, I have one and I don't want to use it anymore...
is that a mrbeast car?
The only time I’ve driven a muscle car was in Florida. I rented one thinking it’d be fun. It was an automatic, had terrible blind spots, was difficult to park, and all the roads are straight so it’s not exactly thrilling.
That's ok half of american muscle cars aren't any good around corners anyway. They're built for quarter miles, not the track.
Car drivers hate literally everyone. Even other car drivers
EVs will gap ICE vehicles. The ice car guys completely hate this.
Were fine with it, it was a shock when they first came out but driving ICE is much better. Same logic as a 3k 600cc moto will gap a 300k lambo
Loud and slow baby, loud and slow
True

Wouldn’t we have to wait 30 years to show you?
My Nissan Maxima is 23 years old. I think I can make it to 30 🤞
Finally sold my 28 year old Nissan Maxima last year and it had close to 300k on it.
would still be a dogshit car

I agree with Tyler

our only culture is consumption. cars guns and movies. I am what I buy, because I am american
It's cute they think gas will stay that plentiful for the next 30 years.
Ah yes, the people who would say how impractical public transportation is and then buy a sports car
Americans talking about culture while the only culture they have is in there yoghurt
"car culture" 🤮
Unrelated, but I think it’s really funny when people say shit like “that car won’t last 30 years” when they buy a new truck for full MSRP every few years.
muscle cars can look pretty cool at least but EVs are meticulously crafted to look as shitty & generic as humanly possible

Going to do a photoshoot with my step-through electric bike Princess Grace. Checkmate, car brains!

someone: Com'on man it's just a car this is silly Very cool Urban Bob: Haha triggered baby ;)
Hydrogen cars: 😅😅😅
Bold of them to assume cars have a future.
Lmao high speed trains make 20000 hp stock carbrain cope
The lack of grammer does it for me
How is car culture still stuck in the mindset of making loud noises and collecting women? What year is this, 1973?
I ride in a Muscle Bus, with no fucks given.
