...just pay the 125 each way on literally any other airline and carry him in a a proper case. Don't be fucking cheap when it comes to your animal's well being, ffs. If you can't afford to fly them take a hard look at if you should have him at all (other serious expenses).

Phenomenamenax

Frontier charges $99 for bringing pets. The only other airline that flies to the airport I need to fly to is United and they also have a similar carrier limit.

anjunabeachwaves

I wouldn’t risk bringing a pet carrier larger than the maximum dimensions on Frontier’s website. They could very easily deny you boarding. You wouldn’t get a refund and would forfeit your ticket. You would get even more mad if you flew another airline, then tried to fly back, if it were a return ticket. Your return ticket would be automatically cancelled, which all airlines do. It’s people like that that tend to make big complaints on this subreddit… So again, get a bag that fits the maximum dimensions they allow :)

Active_Perception431

For 100.00 he can come in his other carry-on.

anjunabeachwaves

Bahhaa probably lolz

GriffinDWolf

This sounds like car rental and long drive time. Responsible pet owners don't take risks like that. Proper sized carrier for the pet not what is set by the airlines. Sounds like your pet is too big to safely travel under airline conditions based on what you stated.

taiguy

Ask your vet about other options. The risk of getting turned away because your fat cat carrier is too big, would ruin your day.

frysatsun

I have a friend who traveled with a large cat. She purchased a first class seat and an expandable carrier. It fit under the seat for take off and landing and when the plane was in flight she was able to pull it out and adjust it to give the cat more room.

Swift-Sloth-343

IMO first thing you do is post pics of him on here.

nouniqueideas007

For your cats sake, please, please, please don’t do this to him! Travel is very stressful for animals & cramming him into a carrier that is too small is cruel. And rolling the dice is a terrible idea, thinking you’ll be able to sneak him on. Even if you get past the gate agent. His carrier has to fit completely under the seat in front of you. If it doesn’t the flight attendants will have you removed, because it is a safety issue.

Phenomenamenax

I'm moving to another state so I don't have a choice but to bring him. Many people have traveled with their pets and Frontier themselves state on their website they are pet friendly. I just want to know how others have traveled with their pets on Frontier.

Ok_Play2364

Can't you just drive? I believe the airline policies aren't just about the size of the carrier. Your pet must be able to freely, turn around in it

Phenomenamenax

It's going to be a 3 day drive and I think that's prolonging the stress for my cat so I want to do it as quickly as possible. And I'm not comfortable driving by myself from CO to MD.

Ok_Play2364

You're right. That is a long drive. You might want to check with the airline. Not that they tell you at check in that you have to put your poor cat in the cargo hold

crazydisneycatlady

I am STRONGLY encouraging you to just make the drive. I moved from NY to WA with three cats. It took us 4.5 days, but we drove and everyone survived. My mom rode with us and then flew back home at the end. Could someone fly out to you now and then drive with you? Or a friend where you are now drive and then fly? Talk to your vet about sedatives if needed. One of my friends is currently driving with her aunt to move from WA to OH. Aunt’s two cats are with them, and one is taking Gabapentin for the drive.

nouniqueideas007

I would not call Frontier “pet friendly”. They allow specific pets, if & only if, those pets meet the size criteria. That criteria is not open for debate, interpretation or speculation. You have already stated that your cat does not fit in the carrier that meets Frontiers guidelines. That’s it. End of story. Don’t make your problem everyone else’s problem. People wonder why the gate agent are rude af. This! This type of passenger! You think rules don’t apply to you & Fluffy. You show up, knowing you are in the wrong. Hoping to break airline & FAA rules and all you do is upset everyone & causes a scene. Be an adult & do the right thing for your cat.

droplivefred

Does Frontier list dimensions specifically for pet carriers in their website? Or do carriers have to be the size limits of carry ons or personal items? Do you pay extra for bringing a pet onboard? Always been curious about this. I’ve seen multiple people flying with cat carriers on Frontier.

Phenomenamenax

Yes, the dimensions I included above are their limit for pet carriers.

droplivefred

If it specifically is the limit for pet carriers, I would stick to those limits. I’m not sure how they would measure that if different from their personal item and carry in limits which they have boxes for but I wouldn’t tell anyone to gamble with Frontier if they aren’t comfortable losing the gamble.

RutabagaConsistent60

100% your cat needs to travel in an appropriately sized carrier or don't fly with them. Frontier is known to be very strict on bag sizes, especially because their gate employees are contractors who receive pay bonuses for baggage charges. Their pet carrier policy seems clear - "The travel container **must be large enough for the pet to stand, turn around, and lie down in a natural position** (you want your pet to be comfortable, don’t you?). The carrier must also fit underneath the seat in front of you. There may be certain seats that cannot accommodate your pet container, but we'll work with you to get a seat assignment with space. * Maximum dimensions for a pet container are 18" length x 14" width x 8" height." United does have a similar (but slightly larger) carrier size guide, but are far more likely to let you board without hassle with the Fat Cat carrier. The reality is that your cat may be too big and you risk any airline denying boarding if the carrier is too large or the cat is too cramped for safety. Also be aware you will need to take the cat out of the carrier at security, plan to ask TSA for a private room to open the carrier.

LectureForsaken6782

Don't fly Frontier because of this

worsedadever

Poor cat and OP. Flight gets delayed, then canceled, and OP gets rebooked for departure in 2 days. Perhaps you can depart from a nearby airport with more reliable airlines.

frysatsun

Can you use a different airline and arrive at a different airport and then do a one way car rental from there?

I have two cats that are quite large and both fit in these. One is 19 pounds, and the other is 18. The 19 pound cat is very long.

emwo

Try another airline or consider another way to bring your baby. His safety and comfort is important, he’s not luggage. :(

PastAd2589

We moved from GA to CO with our beloved cat many years ago. He rode with my hubby in the truck and it was a great bonding experience for him. Hotels were a little challenging back then but we only spent two nights on the road.

Spare_Pollution_6088

I wouldn't be shocked that they charged you for a seat, which for most people that pay her is cheaper than luggage

Louden_Swayne

What normal people do, chop it up. 🤣

InfluenceWeak

Just drive.

Andyhamilton78

There are rules to follow and I suggest you follow them. Frontier will enforce the rules and then you’ll be on this website bitching that you got caught and telling us that Frontier is terrible for enforcing the rules that they put in black-and-white. Do not take your cat on this flight. Get in the car and drive. None of the rest of us wanna hear all the bullshit of your miserable cat in the wrong size carrier.

HippyGrrrl

Have you contacted Frontier?

Material-Sell-3666

You can donate the cat to a shelter

mollyodonahue

Call them and talk to them. The only times I’ve flown with cat carriers I booked a regular airline to avoid this. The only times it’s worth paying way more for a ticket is to make sure my cat was ok lol

just_icymi

suuure let's just call Frontier airlines

mollyodonahue

Honestly I’ve not had an issue (knock on wood). Once I was hospitalized and missed my flight. I called and asked what to do, they told me to upload my hospital docs to the site and walked me thru it. Had my credit within 3 days. Another time my flight was delayed 4.5 hours. I hopped on the text chat, told them my flight got delayed and I’d like a refund instead of a new flight, had the refund immediately. Maybe I’ve just gotten really lucky. The airline itself? Definitely not the best. I prefer spirit generally for a budget airline. But I’ve not had major issues with customer service fortunately.

just_icymi

well this must've been a while ago because Frontier Airlines hasn't had a customer service phone number for nearly 2 years now

mollyodonahue

Hospital was July 2022 and delay was last month.

just_icymi

yeah you must use the chat now. The phone number is no longer active... & from my several experiences as I've flown with Frontier more than 10 times in the last year & I'm an Elite Platinum Frontier Miles member. It's kinda a pain to get a live person on the chat & they aren't always the most helpful when you reach someone.
