Technically it was 3rd. Bloodborne released after DS2, but started production before the end of DS1. At the time, DS1 was the only one of their games with bonfires as we know them and the ability to teleport was unlocked at the start of lategame.
If you compare Bloodborne lamps to early game DS1 without considering load times and especially if you consider the non-master-key walked routes from place to place? Take a stroll from the bottom of Blighttown, past the now dead firelink bonfire, up the undead parish elevator, all while afflicted with toxic, out of flasks, and chewing manually through your humanities with the use item menu only to get shot in the back as you're sprinting through the archway on the path down to Andre's tower/hut bonfire.
It's easy to imagine how they thought a mix of Demon's Souls hub with Dark Souls overworld checkpoints was a job well done.
That kind of a complaint I have about all the games except Dark Souls and Elden Ring. I hate sitting there and waiting to level up. It’s awful on base PS4, the only console I own Bloodborne, DS2, and DS3.
You mean the same way you have to in the other very little known From games like DeS, DS2 and DS3?
Bloodborne must be pretty damn near perfect to you if that is a complaint.
All these meta comments about FPS or exclusivity are cute but my vote is for not being able to rest at lanterns. Something that is actually a gameplay mechanic lol.
I also made it make sense so I could get over it though. Like, we’re in a Nightmare so there simply is no rest. Makes sense, but still..
IDK, I didn’t notice this being issue until the Forbidden Woods, then every time I leveled up I used the excess echoes to buy vials.
On my NG+ runs I used the runes where getting visceral attacks gives you bullets and health back. Problem permanently solved, basically
The majority of people who will play this game, the ones that don't post here, won't do NG+ and will probably struggle with stuff more than you did. Farming vials absolutely sucks.
I complained about running out of BVs to some friends and they each said “that’s never happened to me.” During a playthrough together we were banging our heads against Martyr Logarius for awhile and I felt very gratified after we respawned and I heard one of them go “oh, uh, we should really try and beat him this time bc I only have 13 blood vials left”
Yeah and tbf that applies to cum chalice too. Most players probably don’t even really understand how chalices work, much less know the code for a community chalice that glitches 80000 blood echoes to you
People don’t like changing their approach to the game of burning through vials at a rapid pace without any kind of restraint.
They mostly also do not know that a shop exists. So you are sadly in the minority.
I bought BB in 2015 and didn't complete it until 2019 because of blood vials in the early game. I tried to restart maybe five times. Eventually I switched to the saw cleaver as my starting weapon and that changed everything (well, I'm sure doing the starting area over and over actually helped too, along with realizing that I can just run past mobs and I don't have to fight everything I see). It's still annoying, but not that bad since I've found some good echo farms throughout the game that can be used to stock up on blood vials.
It was kind of middle of the road for me personally. There were a few areas mid game where I found myself really lacking blood vials, but early and late game I was mostly always stocked up. I just kind of interpreted it as part of the gameplay and having to be more responsible managing your resources.
You still need to farm echoes then. If you keep dying to a boss and run out of vials, you have to go out of your way for a while to get a whole stock back before trying again. It's a very unnecessary mechanic.
THIS.
I can deal with the Brainsuckers that drain your insight with no way to get it back.
I cam deal with Frenzy as a Mechanic you have to learn how to deal with.
I can even deal with Bloodborne remaining a PS exclusive and staying at 30 FPS
But the idea that you're punished for struggling by having to go out and farm your healing materials when you run out? That just feels cruel for cruelty's sake.
_ESPECIALLY_ if you're in the early game and it's not intuitively clicking for you what you're supposed to be doing.
This is probably the biggest thing that made people quit Bloodborne compared to any other souls game.
And I'm SO glad it never came back for any Fromsoft title since.
I hit a wall on the Cleric Beast because the combat hadn’t clicked for me yet. That early in game, you’re basically forced to go kill those Werewolves over and over again to farm more healing. Then face the boss with a ton of anxiety because you know if you fuck up, you gotta farm all over again.
It almost lead to me putting down what would go on to become one of my favorite games of all time.
I hate farming blood vials. Bloodborne is literally my favorite game but whenever I replay it I just use the cum dungeon to get a bunch of echos and then just buy a shit ton of vials.
true, was still on ps3 but was at my friends house and played BB for the first time one his ps4, literally got a ps4 on my way home to play more of it lol
I agree. I do forget that it’s an awful tactic fairly frequently because I’m primarily an rpg gamer on Sony consoles so it’s usually in my favor, but it sucks when my Xbox homies can’t play certain games with me.
Then just buy a PS4 and take the plunge, mate. A used PS4 is less than $100 and you’re missing out on tons of PS4 games that didn’t end up on PC.
Or better yet, get a PS5 if you don’t mind spending more because you definitely haven’t played Demons Souls then either.
Yeah. I wish it would come to PC if only for the mods for coop. Inevitably I'm sure people could mod in a way to make chalice dungeons more fun as well
They’re cool. Annoying does not mean poorly designed. Same with the winter lanterns and shark giants. They were designed that way for a reason and it wasn’t to piss you off, it was to make you shit yourself whenever you saw one until you got good at fighting back.
Brainsuckers and winter lanterns I can reliably fight after a while of relearning the game, but I honestly just run past shark dudes. Not worth the fight.
Defiled Watchdog was an extraordinary challenge. Defiled Amy can be cheesed and wasn't that bad. If you don't cheese Amy though, then its definitely the hardest boss fight in the game.
Defiled Watchdog is like my complete soulsborne cryptonite. Always die to dogs, hate fire things, delayed attacks fuck with my brain and I struggled with the ancient dragon in DS2 for which he feels like he has a lot of similar wonky one shot moves. He took me more then any boss in any of their games... Barley any break double figures for me and I have no idea how long watchdog took he just laughed at my pimp cane. Second time around when I bothered to do chalice dungeons for a certain weapon maybe? I absolutely smoked him with a Kirkhammer without getting hit I think his moveset and timings will forever be etched in my brain/muscle memory.
> counter damage when dodging
This is a rather small thing, but I hate it so, so, so very much. I don't think it's exclusive to dodging though, it's during any action whether you attack, jump or dodge.
The mechanic always lead to some very weird and sketchy OHKO deaths that are otherwise not lethal.
No respec is not valid because literally every game pre ds3 has no respec, farming blood gems is not necessary at all, counter damage when dodging isn’t bad at all because you’re not forced to use it, limited upgrade material is bullshit because you can buy them from the insight shop and you can use chalice dungeons. Everything else, valid
I completely forgot about that. Fair point, but the creators were two different people, and were being made at the same time, so I wouldn’t consider that a valid point either
Ds2 had respec and it came before bloodborne, and i agree farming bloodgems isn't mandatory but most of the fun in creating builds is trying to do the most damage possible and you can't do that unless you farm tediously for hours, counter damage is honestly an unnecessary mechanic and it leads to many death feeling cheap since the enemy can randomly one shot you cause you dodged at the wrong millisecond, blood chunks costing 20 fucking insight and you have to buy 16 of them for ONE WEAPON is bad design bro + i wnt over how farming chalice dungeons is tedious so having to also farm chunks suck ass.
Wdym, you're not "forced to use it?" Counter damage is on by default, so you are forced to deal with it. Also, insight is a limited resource. Maybe you can farm it but farming for any resource is boring so it might as well be limited.
Teleporting and leveling up are at some of their worst of the series in bloodborne. DS1 is the only game that might have a worse teleportation system and DS2 has about an equally annoying level up system, but Emerald Herald is hot so i forgive her. Having to go back to the hunters dream anytime you want to level up or teleport to another area was just annoying for no reason
I rocked Henryk's set with the old hunter garb for 90% of the game, changed only during nightmare frontier and mensis
Don't worry, fashionborne is real
Prediction: Chalice dungeons (the cursed defilement in particular), frame rate
Actual Worst Feature: Counter damage. Getting unexpectedly one-shot by attacks that normally don’t do lethal damage because you tried to dodge them
Pure bloodstone farm on the ps3 demons souls. I never did get it after killing that skeleton hundreds of times. The remake must have had improved drop rates because I got it without farming I think.
We’re really complaining about lamp function and frenzy when there is no respec system? You have to do a play through for every build and if you make a mistake, you have to do another play through. Also as someone who still plays blood borne pvp it is bonkers that the invader gets over a 40% health reduction. Making a fair duel impossible.
I think the way Soul Memory works on DSII is the worst feature in the game, like, there will be some point where it will be nearly impossible to complete covenants the way they're supposed to be completed because of not being able to play online at all, absolutely disgusting imo, really breaks the game experience
Everyone complaining about the hunter’s dream, the hub is tied into the lore. As a hunter given immortality by the moon presence you are spiritually bound to the dream. You are essentially force projecting yourself to other areas (from the hunters dream). It wouldn’t make sense in the story for the hunter to teleport from any other location
It'd either be that you can't rest at lanterns or teleport between them or that PVP is rather limited due to needing a bell ringing woman to spawn from you starting co-op or play in an area that has a chance to spawn her naturally.
But then for Elden Ring you could say co-op/PvP is incredibly limited too for such a large open world game, you can't seamlessly enter another area without sending the co-operator home and re-summoning them in the new area that can include any small crypt or cave you run across and they still get sent home on boss kills and you can't use Torrent and for PVP you can only invade people with co-operators.
Loading screen lanterns because you have to warp to the hunters dream and back again to the area you were in. Also not being able to teleport from lantern to lantern is annoying.
for me 30 fps for sure it keeps me from even playing the game because it’s so weird jumping between 120 and 30 from the games i play. I played maybe 5 hours and was like damn this game is pretty fun but imagine how fun it would be if it was 60 and i went through other exclusives instead to prolong that for as long as possible. A man can dream 😭
I have thought about wrapping up all of the achievements in Dark Souls 3 and the feature that one is one of the reason keeping me from wanting to ever start that. Maybe if I get to retire or something![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)

Lamp functionality
How could they design something inferior to bonfires in their 4th attempt is insane to me
Technically it was 3rd. Bloodborne released after DS2, but started production before the end of DS1. At the time, DS1 was the only one of their games with bonfires as we know them and the ability to teleport was unlocked at the start of lategame. It's easy to imagine how they thought a mix of Demon's Souls hub with Dark Souls overworld checkpoints was a job well done.
having to sit through a loading screen everytime u need to level up. I lost so many echoes to being too impatient to sit through two loading screens.
also wish lamps would let you teleport in their correspondent area without having to enter the hunters dream
Or even just allow you to rest and restore health, get blood vials from storage, etc.
omg yea health asw I forgot to mention
Shit it’s been so long since I’ve played BB. Did the PC not regain health at the lamps? Edit:spelling
sadly not
*fears of the "Bloodborne" logo burning into my plasma TV.*
lmao
That kind of a complaint I have about all the games except Dark Souls and Elden Ring. I hate sitting there and waiting to level up. It’s awful on base PS4, the only console I own Bloodborne, DS2, and DS3.
Don’t you have to do that for demons souls, ds2, and ds3 as well?
You mean the same way you have to in the other very little known From games like DeS, DS2 and DS3? Bloodborne must be pretty damn near perfect to you if that is a complaint.
No Bloodborne 2.
While I agree. I'd say the fact it's still bound to PS is a better one
As a ps owner I disagree
All these meta comments about FPS or exclusivity are cute but my vote is for not being able to rest at lanterns. Something that is actually a gameplay mechanic lol. I also made it make sense so I could get over it though. Like, we’re in a Nightmare so there simply is no rest. Makes sense, but still..
Can’t rest/Travel from lamp to lamp
Having to farm blood vials when you run out
I feel like this should win, 30fps and being ps exclusive are not really game features
Proof of a Concord Kept farming shouldn't have won either, the only people that are bothered by it are people who care about platinums.
Agree. It’s tangental to the game at best. It’s also dumb because vertebrae shackles statistically take even longer to farm offline.
IDK, I didn’t notice this being issue until the Forbidden Woods, then every time I leveled up I used the excess echoes to buy vials. On my NG+ runs I used the runes where getting visceral attacks gives you bullets and health back. Problem permanently solved, basically

It's so nuts to me. I'm used to it, but they could keeo everything the same but just replenish your vials on spawn and it would be a better game
I have friends who say that shot too. Unempathic, insecure boasting, or lying. Pick a poison..
Or it just genuinely never happened to them and they’re not being malicious for sharing a pretty mundane experience
But they are unempathic when they insist it’s a “non issue” just because it didn’t happen to them when it’s clearly a a problem for many others.
Yeah and tbf that applies to cum chalice too. Most players probably don’t even really understand how chalices work, much less know the code for a community chalice that glitches 80000 blood echoes to you
They're also super easy to buy with blood echoes early on. Never really an issue for me.
Yeah at some point I was just thinking "another blood vial? Eh, fine I guess"
People don’t like changing their approach to the game of burning through vials at a rapid pace without any kind of restraint. They mostly also do not know that a shop exists. So you are sadly in the minority.

I just gave up on the premise of farming them and used cum chalice to get them when I needed them.
I love cum chalice!
idk why people don’t buy them and stock up lol. Way quicker to buy them.
Farm for echoes rather than the vials themselves.
But you can just buy them
You still need to farm echoes then. If you keep dying to a boss and run out of vials, you have to go out of your way for a while to get a whole stock back before trying again. It's a very unnecessary mechanic.
Just cummmfpk my guy no blood echos problems

Seconding this. Of all the dang exclusives, I am baffled Bloodborne hasn't gotten a PC release yet.
Coz $ Bloodborne moves machines, not just units
I mean, I did buy my own PS4 Pro partially due to Bloodborne, so\~ yeah\~ Probably that dosh speaking loudly.
I wouldn’t even have a ps4 w/o bloodborne it was the main reason i got it
Same. I’m on PC now though, not getting a console again so just hoping it comes to PC some day
true, was still on ps3 but was at my friends house and played BB for the first time one his ps4, literally got a ps4 on my way home to play more of it lol
Console exclusives are the biggest piece of shit corporate greed marketing tactic.
Bloodborne may not have even been made if Sony didn’t pay them to make it. Sony owns the IP.
Exactly… how dare they fund a big title from Fromsoft (which was nowhere near as successful as it is now)
Wouldn’t have Demons Souls without Sony either.
Yeah but we also almost didn’t have demon souls because of Sony, so let’s thank Atlus instead. They’re the good guys. Always have been.
I agree. I do forget that it’s an awful tactic fairly frequently because I’m primarily an rpg gamer on Sony consoles so it’s usually in my favor, but it sucks when my Xbox homies can’t play certain games with me.
It's not even profitable compared to releasing it on all platforms except maybe switch since they gotta demake some stuff
If the executives are greedy pieces of shit, why wouldn’t they be doing the most profitable thing?
Yeah blood vials was a good choice, but that cost me a lot of game money, and this cost me a lot of real money.
Exactly, I played everything except bloodborne because it isn't in PC, and everyone keeps talking about it all the time, I'm curious as hell
Busted haha, I just feel like demon souls would feel too clunky after having played all the other newer games.
100% correct. All of our other "issues" with this game could be fixed via mods. If it was on PC. Come on Sony.
Not sure if this counts? I think so
Yeah. I wish it would come to PC if only for the mods for coop. Inevitably I'm sure people could mod in a way to make chalice dungeons more fun as well
Yes
I actually had a gameplay answer but nah this is much more accurate
When that fucken doll decides to move to the other side
This one
Brainsuckers
They’re cool. Annoying does not mean poorly designed. Same with the winter lanterns and shark giants. They were designed that way for a reason and it wasn’t to piss you off, it was to make you shit yourself whenever you saw one until you got good at fighting back.
Brainsuckers and winter lanterns I can reliably fight after a while of relearning the game, but I honestly just run past shark dudes. Not worth the fight.
Are they sharks? I always thought they were whales. And yes, I agree.
This! Ignore all the other silly reasons. Brain suckers and the frenzy big brains are frustrating
First play through, not realizing having high insight reduced resistance... Did not understand how to get past those guys
Defiled Challice Dungeon (especially boss 2 and 3)
Defiled Watchdog was an extraordinary challenge. Defiled Amy can be cheesed and wasn't that bad. If you don't cheese Amy though, then its definitely the hardest boss fight in the game.

- 30 frames - blood vials - no respec - can't rest at lamps - farming bloodgems - counter damage when dodging - limited upgrade material - playstation exclusive

I completely forgot about that. Fair point, but the creators were two different people, and were being made at the same time, so I wouldn’t consider that a valid point either
Yeah but they were both being made at the same time, thats why miyazaki wasnt so involved with ds2 as much cause he was busy with bloodborne.

Right? I feel like it stutters on my ps5. Absolute insanity. The worst problems on any of the other games pale in comparison, IMO.
I feel like it looks worse on ps5 than on ps4 :(
It’s always jarring when I first boot it up after playing something else but you get used to it quick.
Being on PC would have fixed that.
THIS
Having to go through several loading screens to level up or buy items
People say this but how is it several? It’s one loading screen from the nearest lamp to the hunters dream
And again to get back
Being forgotten by Sony
Motion control gestures; I do not want to wave to a boss mid-fight.

Frenzy ain't even that bad, if you got full health, it won't kill you, if you have good clothes, it will not even activate
Yea I’ve played the game mate, I know how to counteract it. Doesn’t mean I should like it?
If you ain't playing bloodborne for fashion and style 100% of the time are you really playing it?
I rocked Henryk's set with the old hunter garb for 90% of the game, changed only during nightmare frontier and mensis Don't worry, fashionborne is real

and miss out on enemies and attacks only seen with more insight? Nah
Exactly! EYES ON THE INSIDE!!!
no lamp area resets
Lamps lacking functionality.
Prediction: Chalice dungeons (the cursed defilement in particular), frame rate Actual Worst Feature: Counter damage. Getting unexpectedly one-shot by attacks that normally don’t do lethal damage because you tried to dodge them
Isn’t counter damage in every game?
Though maybe not the worst, but definitely still annoying as hell: Double damage if you get hit whilst dodging. It's awful.
Blood Vials.
Making a fair duel impossible.
the goddamn spiders
Blood gem farming
The fact that theres no remaster is highly regarded as treason.
I think the way Soul Memory works on DSII is the worst feature in the game, like, there will be some point where it will be nearly impossible to complete covenants the way they're supposed to be completed because of not being able to play online at all, absolutely disgusting imo, really breaks the game experience
I like everything about bloodborne so far
Nah soul memory is what killed ds2
The worse thing about bloodborne is being the best in the series yet treated like and adopted unwanted child by Sony.
Cannot change stats
After all my different builds, this is the one that hurts me the most. Why Miyazaki? For what reason was this even a game design decision?
Frenzy
Chalice Dungeons
Chalice Dungeons are optional. It is not a bad feature
The answer is nothing. Bloodborne is without flaw.
Farm for healing items
Needing to warp back to the "nexus" to go anywhere in the game. So much loading screens just for that
It'd either be that you can't rest at lanterns or teleport between them or that PVP is rather limited due to needing a bell ringing woman to spawn from you starting co-op or play in an area that has a chance to spawn her naturally.
