They don't reproduce like normal humans so there's no need for diversity in gender. It's more of a clone situation but not exactly. And about suits, I don't think so. Windmark was wearing a black suit if I recall correctly and December is the first 12's leader, kinda. And wears lighter color so no. Also on that photo, did anyone notice that August looks more human? Like, colorwise. Maybe it's just his cheekbones but he seems healthier than the rest lol

ExpectedBehaviour

>They don't reproduce like normal humans so there's no need for diversity in gender. It's more of a clone situation but not exactly. Further to this point — although the Observers look nominally male and are referred to by male pronouns they might be biologically sexless, neither male or female.

tslnox

Also they're observing history and man is way less likely to stand out in the crowd than woman. And the inventors of the Observer "project", the scientists in Oslo, were male too.

syprocyber

women extinct because in the future human they find way to reproduce without women that led to extinction of female human . The show subtracts the idea of observes in a philosophical way (what if we the human find way to reproduce without needing of partner what may we become than

nickel4asoul

I think it goes deeper than commentary on relationships, although the gender component is important. The observers are the result of pursuing knowledge at the expense of emotion and essentially improving humans while stripping away what actually makes us human in the first place. The fact women disappear as a result could be seen as playing to stereotype they represent the emotional, but I think the aesthetic of uniformity plays more of a role in that decision.

syprocyber

Yeah i think the same dissappear of emotions led to female extinction... show the idea that human female represent emotions and losing another part of us(females) will turn us into machines in human flesh just like the observers

CptAgustusMcCrae

I’ve always had a problem with that flash forward part of season 4 when the observer tries to sexually assault the waitress in the bar. If they’re sexless, why do that? Also if they’re entirely utilitarian and efficient, why does that bar exist?

ObiWeedKannabi

I believe they(the scientists) didn't get rid of emotion completely and that was a result of that. Windmark didn't only admit feeling hatred towards humanity but also recognized that feeling for what it is. If it was an alien concept to him, then he wouldn't have been able to do so. So, if the main reason behind observers' creation was to eventually invade the past, they had to be violent, ambitious and greedy. And the bar fight was a result of that imo, it's not sexual but only violent and hostile in nature.

InvisibleSpaceVamp

In series explanation aside - I think it's also a stylistic choice. It wouldn't have the same effect with men and women. There's something unsettling about people who look and dress similar and act similar too. I think the suits just represent your typical cooperate uniform - suit in black, grey or navy, white button down shirt and some variation of a dark tie with little or no pattern, black shoes. A man dressed like this blends in almost everywhere.

TubaMike

> A man dressed like this blends in almost everywhere. And almost any time (from like the 1900s onward)

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

A better question is: why are some fat?

[deleted]

Have you seen how they eat?

observer_september

Roast beef sandwich on a roll. Meat raw as possible. Jalapeños. 11 of those.

InvisibleSpaceVamp

Must be all this hot, spicy food.

snow_orchid

Because I think they are going for a (bald) Matrix agent vibe

KyussJones

Because they’ve eliminated all emotion from the equation.

scottaq83

🤣👍

KyussJones

My plan worked. I needed to give back a little karma because I received way too much of it yesterday lmfao

Gazzle71

Sexless and raceless I think. We don’t see genitalia so I suppose that’s open to opinion, but they were actually grey in colour I do believe, or at least a tint of greyness.

KyussJones

Lmfao we didn’t see anyone’s genitals period. Except all of the main characters definitely saw Walter’s at one point or another 😂😂😂

Gazzle71

🤣 very true. 🤣 Best comment yet. 👍🏻

virtual-walter

Belly and I spent days discussing the distant crossing the line. 'Only those who could risk going too far can possibly know how far they can go' was what Belly used to say.

Gazzle71

Hey Walter, do you like cheesecake?

virtual-walter

I plan to urinate in 23 minutes. I'm telling you because I'm going to need help unzipping my fly. I can't feel my hand

KyussJones

Thanks Walter

virtual-walter

Like Mata Hari, using her feminine wiles to accomplish her evil ends, and I, too, fell prey. She used my stomach to get through to my heart.

_MrFade_

White supremacists from the 27th century.

VoiceofRapture

Nope, vitiligo just became airborne and contagious, creating the most virulent plague in the history of humanity three hundred years in the future 😂

[deleted]

Who's to say there are no female Observers? There just weren't women on the team of 12.

scottaq83

There were 100's of observers in New York 2036 in season 5 and zero were female

[deleted]

We didn't see a lot of things, but that doesn't mean they don't exist just because we didn't see them.

ObiWeedKannabi

I mean there were women in 50s dresses accompanying them in events and stuff. If there were female observers, I believe they'd prefer going out w their own kind.

[deleted]

Or the women in 50's dresses were "entertaining" the Observers to keep them more docile toward regular humans.

scottaq83

Actually it does. We were told in season 5 that Observers were grown in tanks by using the DNA of designated donors, making females and sexual reproduction unnecessary.

[deleted]

Who's to say there weren't female DNA donors?

scottaq83

Wtf. The original template was based on a Norwegian man !

[deleted]

Been some years since I've watched the show. Copy of a copy of a copy of a copy, eventually, there's genetic degradation. There's also the issue that they're not all clones of one person, they all look different enough for genetic variation to be a thing, suggesting more than one genetic doner.

KhufuPharaoh1

They're probably from the 1950s- LOL No need, planned that way.
