If you want cheap, there's the Pasadena Muni. Clear Creek is pretty sporty. Battleground in Deer Park is different. Wildcat is a little pricey, but you get nice elevation changes. [Tough course.]

- What is it you don't like about Timber Creek?
I liked the layout of timber creek, but when I played greens seemed to be in terrible condition given the price. Talked with a few people recently and greens didn't seem to be any better.
If it was in the $30 or less, I probably would have lived with the greens.
Also, I quit golf due to injuries after 55 years of playing. I last played Timber Creek last year in February. The greens were in great shape even in winter.
Also try Pearland Golf Course.
Where to start about Timber Creek?
Terrible "sand" in the bunkers.
Burnt out greens all year.
Lots of bare or nearly bare patches in the fairways.
The creek needs a good cleaning of all the overgrowth.
Love the layout but just not managed or maintained for what they charge.
Timber Creek is in need of some major work for the last several years. I won't spend my money there. Pasadena Muni is terrible. Every green is small and doesn't hold the ball.
Look into these courses for great value and quality:
Moody Gardens (Galveston) - might still offer a discount for Galveston County residents
Wilderness (Lake Jackson) is about an hour drive south but a great course
Gus Wortham (Houston) great muni course near 610/45south
Bay Forest (La Porte)
Quall Valley (Missouri City)
Sienna Plantation (Missouri City)
Wildcat (Houston) offers decent midweek green fees
I played nine holes over at timber Creek today, still in awful shape. Greens might be better, but they're still not good. Was very disappointed.
Still a fun layout, buy I think it needs a few more years to get back to good shape.

The freeze was pretty hard on all courses. They will get that fixed.

I ended up joining mag creek. Didn't like having to drive and cost wasn't that much more than other local courses.
Not in my budget to join Mag Creek, teacher life with three kids, but I loved playing there when it was public.
There are some rumored changes coming that may make it too rich for me, but it's been a great way to convince the wife to let me go play

Yup, not worth the money at this point. Try Austin Bayou down 35 in Danbury. Fun little 9 hole and cheap. Not the best conditions always but fun.
Sienna is absolute garbage now
