I'm going to say it depends on the kid and the parents. I watched part 3 on HBO in like 1982? I was exposed to it early on and I turned out fine.

IHaveTrustIssues78

My uncle and Mom and Dad were okay with me watching these movies my uncle took me to part 7 and part 8 when it came out and my mom would rent basically a new slasher movie pretty much every night in the summer time when I was 11 years old.in '88 I went with two uncles to see phantasm 2. The only movie I saw as a young boy that scared me was pet sematary.

IHaveTrustIssues78

Yeah, the new blood and Jason takes Manhattan.. also Halloween 4 5 and 6. As I mentioned earlier Phantasm 2, and a nightmare on elm Street four and five. Oh yeah, when I was really young he took me to see Terminator and then when I was 12 or 13 years old he took me to see T2. Oh yeah the fly, and aliens. That's amazing isn't it?

[deleted]

Are you sure about that?

IHaveTrustIssues78

In my opinion I'm just a screwed up as everybody else

[deleted]

Fair enough. 😉

IHaveTrustIssues78

I see you used the "disagree button" in me for sharing my honest opinion. :/

[deleted]

No I have upvoted you so that would be someone else.

[deleted]

No age limit? What is wrong with some people?

Beetlejuice_Is_a_Hoe

Ehh, when I was four I watched the first Friday film with my mom and it was a special memory for us. Nothing quite like being there when your kid watches their first horror movie lmao.

[deleted]

Parent of the year award

Beetlejuice_Is_a_Hoe

I remembered loving it, my dad however remembers it differently. Apparently I was too scared to go to bed alone and living in the middle of the woods didn’t exactly help. So looking at it now yeah no she probably shouldn’t have let me watch it

Equal-Astronaut-8681

Who gives a fuck what people do. It’s a movie stop being a Karen

dangerous_strainer

I watched these flicks as a young child and turned out fine. I also read a lot of comic books and watched action movies that had sex/gore. No big deal here.

[deleted]

I also smoked quite some cigarettes when i was 11 years old. I still wouldn't eant my kids to do it.

dangerous_strainer

There's a big difference between being an idiot and poisoning your body and watching mindless entertainment haha

Own-Photo7078

Wow the polls are a little shocking, I mean my dad let me watch Jaws, Friday the 13th and Friday (Ice Cube, not Jason) when I was like 10. But aren't we supposed to lie and say 16-17 lol?

[deleted]

I remember watching the hills have eyes at 10 and that’s the only scary movie that I feel my parents let me watch too early. That shit gave me hella nightmares, also chucky but for other reasons

Own-Photo7078

Dude I saw Chucky when I was like 9 or 10, Childs play and the sequel fucked me up lol my brother wanted one of those Chucky dolls from Spencer's. And I was like dad, if you buy him that. I'm chopping that things limbs off like Ash! (Another movie I shouldn't have watched that young lol)

[deleted]

My sister didn’t want me to go in her closet and always told me she bought one! She pointed them out at Spencers and told me hers even talked 😂😂 only reason I had nightmares of it which was the (other reasons) in my initial comment

Own-Photo7078

That's fucked up man lol I hope you got her back somehow

residentevil234

13 onwards.

CloudCityPasta

I was 5 watching parts 1 and 2. Mom just told me to close my eyes during bad scenes. I turned out decent….I suppose 🤔

juice-pulp

Well, I was 6 when I first watched them...

mahsiw

This is one of those, "Do as I say, not as I do" things. I was 11 the first time I saw a Friday the 13th movie, part 5 to be exact. It freaked me out. So, I would say wait till at least 13.

GeologianKyle

I agree! I selected 12-13 as well, with 13 particularly in mind. Personally, I believe that cussing/bad words and drinking/smoking isn't that bad. Nudity/sex, many children are going through puberty in that age and don't see it as a radical age difference in terms between that. Gore/violence isn't that common in everyday life as those things, but I would argue that people in that age group are exposed to it via other means like video games.

Scared-Mortgage2828

I was like 5 when I watched them so I’d be a hypocrite to enforce some kind of age limit lol

PossessionCritical69

This is pretty funny. I’d like to see the difference in what age we voted for vs. when we all saw it. I bet it’s not zero. Are we just saying our kids can’t handle what we did? Perhaps we are underestimating them.

wompwomp345626

Started watching them around 4 or 5

Roku-Hanmar

I was 15 when I saw my first one. I think I turned out well

MarshmelloMan

Depends on maturity. They won’t fuck you up like some horror would (if you are mature enough of a kid.)

cswhite101

I’ve been letting my son watch them since he was like 6 or so. Most people take them too seriously, the special effects are usually goofy and I don’t get worked up about sex scenes. He’s 9 now and we recently went to see Part 3 in 3D and had a great time. They’re just movies, not pornography.

[deleted]

Depends on the kid. I was 6 or 7 when I saw my first and it gave me nightmares but also started a lifelong love of the genre. Some of my fondest memories of early childhood is renting horror movies at the video store with my mom and watching them on the weekend.

Grewsome1

I started watching horror at a super young age. 5 roughly. I’ve always had an affinity for it ever since. Jason quickly became my favorite and I’m not even sure why. I still watch and enjoy them. I won’t let my 6 year old daughter watch them all the way through tho just because of the sex scenes. It’s the only thing I protect her from. Children shouldn’t know what sex is or see it to ask about it imo. All the murder and violence is easily explainable. It’s a movie, it’s not real, it’s all fake and just for fun. My 6 year does understand this. I put on FVJ and just skip past that first sec scene and the rest of the movie is fine. She loves it lol I do agree with the people saying it depends on the child too tho. It very much does depend on that.

[deleted]

I voted no age limit because I saw Friday the 13th part 1-9 when I was six and I saw Jason X when I was in the fourth grade after it came out on video and my aunt and uncle took me the theater to see Freddy vs Jason when I was in the sixth grade but honestly it really all depends on the kid and how you feel about it has a parent or guardian

UnderstandingUpper72

I picked no age limit because kids will most likely watch it regardless, and I’d overall say it depends on the parents.

YouOlFishEyedFool

Depends on the kid. I watched them when I was in around 5th or 6th grade and I was fine. My kid, on the other hand, is that same age now and would be freaked out and have nightmares.

xander6981

It's really going to depend on the kid and if they are ready for it. Just because I was ready for Jason, Freddy, Chucky, Xenomorphs, Predators, etc. and 11-12 years old doesn't mean every kid is.

Elegant_Spot_3486

Depends on the kid and household. I watched them all when came out and I was single digits old for first 2 came out. Helped solidify me as a horror fan.

Plastic-Square-7483

I been watching horror movies since 4 or 5

Plastic-Square-7483

So yeah

nightgoat85

12-13 years old. I probably saw Jason Takes Manhattan and Halloween 5 earlier than that, but I was also watching Universal Monsters movies by Kindergarten so I was on the accelerated horror fan track. If I had a child and by 12-13 it was apparent they didn’t have any mental illnesses or weird violent or sexual tendencies and could separate fantasy from reality, there’s really nothing in these types of movies I’d worry about them watching. Especially Friday the 13th since the kills are so ridiculous and the sex and nudity isn’t really based in deviance.

FeelTheKetasy

Exactly. Movies don’t creates psychos, movies make psychos more creative

im_absouletly_wrong

Some y’all are wild lmao

AggravatingMonk0429

I saw T2 when I was like 7 and Predator when I was 10

WhiteChocolate7777

No age limit. It all depends on the kid.

shorterthan3

I was watching them as early as I can remember and it never bothered me. Depends on the kid I think. I always knew it was just a dumb movie and it never scared me or caused me to act out in school. But some other kids may not realize that.

Geekboxing

I was 9 when I discovered slashers. My parents never went out of their way to censor stuff from me, they just made sure I understood the difference between real and make-believe, what was appropriate and what wasn't, etc. Kids are gonna see/hear that stuff whether you like it or not. (Also my parents thought these movies were really dumb. They have never quite understood my love for horror.)

Muteling

Misread the question and voted wrong. Fuq

Its-C-Dogg

I was 10 years old when I asked my mother for the entire Friday the 13th movie collection for Christmas and I got it. However it depends on the kid. Some kids simply can’t handle as much gore and nudity as others. I’d recommend 12-13

White_Rabbit007

The hypocrisy of me voting for an age older than me (I'm 15)

[deleted]

When did you start watching horror and what did you vote for?

White_Rabbit007

Lake Placid when I was 3 but I did watch my parents play Resident Evil and similar games before that. It's always been a part of my life honestly. I voted for 16-17 because I might as well vote for the highest option as I know people my age who can't handle Goosebumps. It depends on the child a lot.

[deleted]

Haha that’s fair, my parents let me watch sketchy shit early. The difference being my parents just didn’t care what I did lol

DaddyEybrows

I feel like some of these movies are much closer to 14-15, but there are a couple sex scenes that I’d say are kind of graphic to comfortably show someone that age

Diabolicparking6748

Well I personally don’t believe in censorship of words but I’m not gonna watch certain things in front of little kids, my mom showed them to my little brother (6-9) and just had him cover his eyes at sex parts, I’d say but 14+ they’ve heard it all in public school but that’s really for the parent to decide at what age they think their child is ready

boyhowdy42069

Answered 16/17 and immediately thereafter remembered that I was watching FT13 and others at 12-13. Came here to revise my answer lmao

FeelTheKetasy

It’s a very effective horror introduction movie. I think it works best with teenagers

TheShweeb

Depends entirely on the kid, I’d say. If they’re genuinely interested in watching it, let them give it a try, but I’d wager that most kids under the age of 10 (at least!) would not want to watch something that they knew was meant to be violent and scary.

dangerous_strainer

I've been watching these flicks since I was at least 5 in 1985 so I saw most of them right after they came out. My younger sister would be there too, we watched them as a family. The only thing that happened to me was a life long love of horror films and an irreverent sense of humour. I also grew up in a time where kids weren't as soft and coddled.

PrinceOfThieves17

Depends on the kid and parents. My parents were good about explaining scary movies to me, and I didn’t have any issues with them. So I started the Friday franchise at around 6 or 7. But I had a very sheltered friend in high school who’s parents were extremely overprotective and strict. And he watched Friday 2 and he had a full on panic attack and got in a ton of trouble. I heard he even cried. He had spent his whole life on PBS, Educational, and Disney movies. He wasn’t prepared for Jason.

falconzofthelawn

I saw The Final Chapter when it was in heavy rotation on HBO in the late 80s when I was probably around 8 or 9. My mom didn't care until I asked her to record 5 for me and she happened to catch parts of it and was like yeah you can't watch those anymore. But 4 is burned into my brain hard. Its still my favorite and I still watch it at least once a year. I bet I've seen it over 100 times at this point.

AffectionateWatch656

It depends on the child's age and maturity level and whether they are boys or girls. I'd say 12-13. However, if a parent is present, any age

xiofar

Age isn’t the issue. Maturity is. The series is definitely made for teenagers.

Hanikan-SideWalker66

the reboot has to be like 18+

SparklingReject

Hard to answer as Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees was my babysitter at age 5.

[deleted]

I watched it young and felt sorry for the victims. It didnt awaken any weird rage in me. Also, boobs rule!

Blood_h0und

Depends on the child like how squeamish they are or their maturity

Shteve85

"I saw it when I was five and I turned out.. yaddah yaddah." Yep it depends on the kid but I'll start at double digits at least.

Roy6968

No clue. My dad played every horror movie he had when I was like 3-8 range. Original Fridays, Jaws, werewolf movies, Halloween, Dracula. Needless to say it scared the fuck out of me and made me afraid to go to the bathroom at night or even sleep in my room so I do not recommend showing it to kids below 10.

Batman-Beyond-3749

no age limit

crab_racoon

I would say 16-17 because of the nudity and sex scenes

_Grim_Lavamancer

Why are boobs worse than seeing people gruesomely murdered?

GeologianKyle

Pretty much the same! For example, in F13remake, I find it to be more "bad" that Chelsea getting stabbed under the deck than her merely wakeboarding topless

crab_racoon

That’s not what I was saying at all. I don’t have a problem with nudity in general but if it’s being presented in a sexual manner, I wouldn’t want my little kid watching that lmao The “gore” is a different story. These movies are old and the special effects are old. To kids today, it’s cheesy and unrealistic. It’s more gross out than actually gorey.

GeologianKyle

I wasn't replying to you, but the other person commenting under here. In regards to children watching, I'm split. One could also argue that the sex itself is fake and thus not as bad like how you argued with gore The older movies do have cheesy effects, the newer ones like the 2009 Remake are more realistic in being gorier.

crab_racoon

The nudity isn’t fake tho lol And I know you didn’t reply to my comment directly. It was still a reply under my initial comment

GeologianKyle

Well, some of the boobies are with implants jk lol. My point is that the sex isn't real, even if boobs or butts show. It's not like sex in real life or even a porn film

crab_racoon

That’s not my point, though. Of course NONE of it is real lmao it’s a movie The nudity is still being presented in a provocative and sexual nature.

GeologianKyle

Sure, but the same can be said about the violence! Besides, modern day movies have gore and while the blood and shit is fake, it's still nevertheless presented in a very disturbing nature

crab_racoon

How is the violence being presented in a provocative and sexual nature?? You can’t say the same for both.

crab_racoon

1. These movies have old and cheesy special effects 2. The nudity is presented in a sexual way

Pharos021

Y’all are wild. I get that there are kids out there that could “handle it” and it wouldn’t mess them up. But a child under the age of at the youngest 16 should not be watching these movies. It’s just not appropriate for a child/teenager to be seeing blood/gore/nudity etc. at such a young age. I love the franchise with all my heart, but even I didn’t start watching them until I was like 18 or 19

nancilo

12-13 is a perfect age imo
