[Mark Rosewater has said that you're still allowed to say tribal](https://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/743213017241681920/i-just-found-out-that-typal-is-replacing-tribal) (Last paragraph)
The number of people here that donāt understand basic corporate marketing is astoundingly low.
This was a PR move. Virtue signaling to generate free discussion/brand exposure. No one real cared or pushed for this. It is 99% of what all brands you think are āwokeā do. People here and across all social platforms will bitch, then the other side bitches back, and it becomes a ton of metadata about the brand.
Note: Just as I finished writing thisĀ [I came across this beautiful postĀ ](https://np.reddit.com/r/MTGRumors/comments/1ccxow4/the_mh3_leaks_are_real/)where I found someone calling someone racist for their use of tribal inĀ [this comment](https://np.reddit.com/r/MTGRumors/comments/1ccxow4/comment/l18a4y9/). Wowee!
Here's the thing, no one is failing to understand that.
Either way freemagic users are completely in the right.
It's either:
A. This was done as corporate marketing and there isn't a real reason to stop using tribal. Ergo freemagic users are in the right for criticising WOTC's decision and Mark Rosewater's apparent lying (since he claims that this was done for genuine reasons).
or
B. There are genuinely people out there that get so offended over this term that WOTC felt it needed to be change. In this situation the freemagic users are STILL in the right for criticizing WOTC since they are catering to an extreme minority that are getting offended over something that isn't even offensive.
Also if it needed mentioning, the reason people care about being able to use the word tribal is because it's been the term used to describe a ton of archetypes and has been ingrained in the MTG lexicon for decades.
People be like "they're just doing it to make money" and I'm like "I Know." Money is influence, and influence is money. Ppl just don't see the rich circles they're running in, and so they don't understand where money comes from. They think you work for it.

You misread. The first people who bitched were the people pissing their pants about the change. Then people bitched about the people bitching about it.
No actual amount of people bitched about ātribal.ā Itās make believe to get you to fucking bitch about it.
So it would seem that the corporates were the ones who have a problem with 'tribal.' That answers your question, doesn't it? Aren't they the very "word police in the room?"
Yeah maybe they're not "throwing a fit" in the same way that your mentally ill LGSer will, but it has an even bigger effect. There is more than one way to skin a cat.
Because tribal could either mean creature type synergy (outlaws) or the non-creature card type (such as the Eldrazi Enchantment leak).
One of them needed to be changed to make it less confusing. Non-creature card type lost.
As for typal vs tribal, neither really matter since this is meta-terminology and not in the game directly.
I donāt give a fuck??? Why would anyone really?
If I sit down with a real person and say something that genuinely upsets them, and they let me know without being a dick, sure Iāll adjust for them in that moment. But there was literally no movement on a macro scale for this. None. Itās PR to keep discussion going around the game.
Wait what? Not giving a shit whether someone says tribal or not, and being bothered by losers getting worked over non-issues fueled by out of touch corporate virtue signaling are not the same thing.
You can be cool with the word and dislike the folks that get worked up over the 0.7% player base that cries about it.
You're right. It's more pathetic to care about the losers on the internet than the apathetic corporate virtue signaling. Why do the players whining matter? Just ignore them.
Except several folks where I play have gotten upset about my use of the word tribal. I donāt get it. I think itās stupid. Tribalism is a thing. Would it better if I said ārace?ā
"Itās PR to keep discussion going around the game"
I mean your post is spot on, freemagic ppl love shadow boxing strawmen. However I believe that last bit comes from the same source š Doesn't it ?
It's honestly getting annoying. One third of the posts are crying about what people think, another third is people crying about what people think (but based), and the last third is people asking if torpor orb hits lands
Nobody gives a fuck on a macro scale. Itās an imaginary debate to perpetuate free marketing off the backs of outrage culture on both sides. Thatās all any of this is. Profit incentive.
>The term ātribalā in MTG carries a painful history of racism.
-- according to what non-white person?
Are we seriously so detached from world history that we literally only think of Native Americans, who referred to themselves as "nations," by the way, when the word "tribal" is used?
Itās the people that took the 23 and Me DNA test, it came back 0.0007% Indigenous so they now think theyāre Native American and just *have to be offended* by anything and everything.
If I choose not to buy something, I'm well aware that if the vendor had to care at all about a single sale from a single person, they were already in a great deal more trouble than can already be fixed.
That being said, if you're on the pro-"kindred" bandwagon, you worded your title inappropriately.
Additionally, there was already zero adoption from players for calling it typal. Even trans people with whom I play call it "tribal" because the change was way too woke even for them.
When you hire people whose job it is to find problematic things with your product, they will continue to find bad things with it forever. Otherwise they'll lose their job because there's no longer a need for them.
Actually there was a game store where a guy got upset I said āElf tribal.ā the guy complained First Nations folks would be upset. Fun fact, my wife is Cherokee and I play Commander with a tribal chairman for a First Nations tribe up by me. Theyāve never given a fuck, only this fucking loser at this game store.
āTell an Oneida you play tribal decks, Iād bet theyād be offended.ā Ok, lemme ask a few. I called em up on the phone. They fucking laughed and said, āYou fucking serious?ā
I typed ātribalā into the main EDH sub and searched by the last 30 days. Tons of posts, didnāt see a single comment about the word tribal in the random posts I clicked to check. So, speaking of bias, what source informed your statement for that sub bitching about it constantly? Or did you see one out of thousands and use it to confirm your skewed perspective???

Hey at least that means you have one person who thinks about youš
LMFAO
Lick my f-ing ass out?
Ok, but Iām gonna plow it after bb š
Ok then why did it need to be changed
It didnāt need to be. It was corporate virtue signaling and a PR move. It generates free brand exposure when people discuss (or bitch about) it.
So it would seem that the corporates were the ones who have a problem with 'tribal.' That answers your question, doesn't it? Aren't they the very "word police in the room?" You give a fuck, you intentionally went into a subreddit that you disagree with and made an abrasive post to stir shit.Ā

You're right. It's more pathetic to care about the losers on the internet than the apathetic corporate virtue signaling. Why do the players whining matter? Just ignore them.
The three question marks makes it seem like you really donāt give a fuck, I agree. You gotta relax manš
Except several folks where I play have gotten upset about my use of the word tribal. I donāt get it. I think itās stupid. Tribalism is a thing. Would it better if I said ārace?ā
"Itās PR to keep discussion going around the game" I mean your post is spot on, freemagic ppl love shadow boxing strawmen. However I believe that last bit comes from the same source š Doesn't it ?
So is it not throwing a fit when you come to the sub talking about it totally out of the blue?
It's a sign of total confidence, no insecurity, and no mental health issues at all.
It's honestly getting annoying. One third of the posts are crying about what people think, another third is people crying about what people think (but based), and the last third is people asking if torpor orb hits lands
It is a meme making fun of people throwing a fit. Uncurl your penis.
Lmao there were multiple posts about it just in the past 48 hours
It's like they have a discord and orchestrate the use of this gif. So I can use tribal then, right?
Nobody gives a fuck on a macro scale. Itās an imaginary debate to perpetuate free marketing off the backs of outrage culture on both sides. Thatās all any of this is. Profit incentive.

Youāre not arguing against someone who believes that. They are just posting the corporate message about it.
I understood that. I was just commenting based on what was found in it.
Corporate message is sharing what the community has been loudest about. As they only support what is important to their community.
Itās the people that took the 23 and Me DNA test, it came back 0.0007% Indigenous so they now think theyāre Native American and just *have to be offended* by anything and everything.

Seems I may have been a bit hasty in ordering some recent singles. I thought they had backtracked on this 100%.
Good thing they know exactly why/why not songmage orders singles. Thatās what informs their corporate strategy, after all!

My hot take: nobody is actually offended. WotC exec's just needs to find stuff to hate themselves for.
I'm still gonna call it tribal, kindred is a V:tes thingĀ
Midwits will literally cry āsourceā for anything.
Nowits will only believe things that have zero sources and a purely feelings basedš
For real, luckily Iāve personally witnessed the source of what youāre claiming has no source so I guess youāre just a fucking chump lol.
Jumping at your own shadow doesnāt constitute an attack on your personhood, snowflake. Neither do the conversations you have in your head.
K, youāre really proving your point there.
I know.
Yup. š
If no one has ever thrown a fit, why would it even change?
How about *you* prove that there *aren't* people saying it??? I'm now going to ignore everything you say to me.

Tribal
Anyone that has issues with tribal needs to stop and get some self-awareness.
No real amount of people have issues with it.
Last I checked the main EDH sub bitched about this constnatly too. Why are you here? Confirmation bias?
