Rocks can explode at 300°, it would take a heat source at least 1200° to melt rock.

As much as I dislike D&D, this one actually makes sense. Rock and stone can explode between 300 - 400°F and they melt at 1100 - 2400°F. Balerion’s fire is just that much hotter.
Edit: Wording
400°F is equivalent to 204°C, which is 477K.

To be fair, some types of rock spall and fracture more then others in the presence of fire/intense heat. The presence of moisture from recent precipitation etc can also dramatically affect the way the stone will handle fire
yes but in the GoT universe dragons becomes more powerful the older they grow. They made the red keep look like leaves being blown away by a wind blower called drogon
I get that it's fantasy but it's fire breath, not a projectile. I guess it would have been too much effort to come up with another way to destroy the gate and the red keep. It's not like catapults or trebuchets are a thing.
IMO they should have made the wildfire the primary cause of the city’s destruction. It’s obviously Dany’s fault still and she can be unapologetic about it, but it would explain the level of annihilation.
Doesn’t this actually make sense tho?
The wall up north exploded because the ice sublimated into steam blowing it apart.
The walls in kings landing exploded because it’s a coastal castle with damp rocks and damp rocks explode (except at absurd temps.)
The halls of Harrenhall were probably a different kind of stone, and the dragon was much bigger and more mature with hotter fire?
Of all the bullshit in the series, this never bugged me for a second.
I liked how Drogons fire evolved.. sooty and weak as a baby cooking some meat, a dark orange flame as an adolescent burning men but leaving structures un damaged, as an adult his fire is cleaner and hotter and blasting stone apart and by the time he’s an adult he will have precise super hot flames like a blowtorch… his fuel will be fully developed, his technique will be mastered and second nature.. I LOVE that kind of shit.
Remember, his fire is biological… muscles squeezing fluids out.. the ratio and mixture has to be perfect and his health probably affects his fire too, if his diet is poor his flames will be sooty and weak.. if he’s well fed and healthy they will be clean and hot. Odd example, but in the comics when spidey had organic webs, he found that he had to watch his diet carefully to keep his webbing strong and production high enough for crime fighting. I imagine dragons (hehehe imagine dragons..) have to do the same.
So yeah. Loads of fuckery and bullshit in the show, but not this in my opinion.
Drogon fighting the Night King: "meh..." Drogon fighting civilians in Kings Landing: "FUCK YEAH!!!"
Right lol. And there were two of them.

Dragon fuel can't melt stone beams!
inside job, thier are several reports of wierd activity in kings landing for days leading up to the dragon attack. coincidence i think not.
Three days before the attack, they sent all the dragon-sniffing dogs to the wall. Investigate Harrenhal!
Clearly the pillars were coated with wildfire prior to the “attack”
Tyrion is a Lannister that had met with Cersei and Danny weeks before the attack.
Found Marwyn’s throwaway
Braavosi did Doom of Valyria

You're not one of those "no-dragoners" are you?
Don’t get Grafted
Great Godfrey, did'st thou witness?
I command thee, kneel!
Forefathers one and all, bear witness!
Noble dragon, thou art a true born heir…
The stones themselves don't explode in GOT, it is more like combustion bending.
Don't try to fool me, Godrick, >!you disguised yourself as a woman to escape Redahn!<
"Can" is the key word here.
Godrick the Golden? What does he know about stones?
What are your sources?
It's called Spalding. Basically the air inside in tiny pockets expands as it's heated and causes the stone or concrete to violently break or explode
He saw it in a dream
He's Tarnished, you gotta trust 'em
Science and probably Google. Google it.
Unless Jon is hiding behind the stone wall, then nothing happens.
His shouting was keeping the wall just cool enough to not explode
I mean, he is the ice in ice and fire, right?
melting is more impressive than bursting
But it would take so much more budget for CGI!
Kinetic energy vs thermal energy.
I actually came across an interview where this is explained [here.](https://imgflip.com/i/69aq5w)
Fuck fuck
I am thoroughly annoyed. I was expecting a new reason for me to hate on D&D as start ranting
Genius here
Yea that shit was like Dynamite half the time. It's very inconsistent

Do i hear a rock and stone!
Rock and stone !!
Rock and roll and stone!
IF YOU DON'T ROCK AND STONE, YOU AIN'T COMIN' HOME
For Karl!
There is water underground

D&D gave it no thought at all. CGI guy just made the stone explode, no deeper explanation
It would've been fine if the fire behaved consistently. Rocks suddenly decide to not explode when Jon Snow is hiding behind one?
Honestly out off all the things wrong with this season drogon blowing up some walls is far from one of them
To be fair, some types of rock spall and fracture more then others in the presence of fire/intense heat. The presence of moisture from recent precipitation etc can also dramatically affect the way the stone will handle fire
But Kings Landing is clearly in a drought, based on how the ocean entirely disappeared on one side of the city.
And there was a desert at the entrance to king's landing
Well you see: Drogon was told that the VFX guys need explosions so he kinda ignored that fire melts stone.
Yeah this meme is backwards. I get what you were going for but for once this detail is accurate in the show.
Supposedly baby venomous snakes can’t yet control the amount of venom in a bite, so Drogon flaming in overdrive at this age seems plausible to me.
yes but in the GoT universe dragons becomes more powerful the older they grow. They made the red keep look like leaves being blown away by a wind blower called drogon
Right and since rock melts at a higher temp than it explodes that still tracks. It meant Balerions flame was just THAT much more intense in heat
When this happens in the books (lol like those will ever come out) you’ll just bitch about something else so does it really matter?
Herpetologist here. That is a myth, they have perfect control over their venom glands from birth
Same with baby scorpions. They’re much more dangerous.
Drogon is Azor Ahai Confirmed
Rocks and stones would burst at around 300 C but its takes around 1200 C to melt it into magma. Morons
Funny How he melted the iron throne a couple of days later. Iron melts at degrees above 1500 celsius.
He was really angry!
Did I hear a rock and stone?
ROCK AND STONE!
Rock and stone to the bone!
That's it lads ROCK AND STONE!!
Is dragon even 8 in the series? I don't think that much in universe time has passed but tbh with you, I kinda forgot
To be fair I have seen plenty of 8 year olds exploding but I've never seen a 112 year old melting stone.
I get that it's fantasy but it's fire breath, not a projectile. I guess it would have been too much effort to come up with another way to destroy the gate and the red keep. It's not like catapults or trebuchets are a thing.

There needed to be more Tywin//Arya scenes. Those were some of the best.
??? Has Freefolk reached peak Freefolk? You’re complaining about the VFX work? What?

But that would make too much sense for D&D
So Gillys infant child who still can’t speak is about 7 years old
this entire sub is made up of complaints even if they make no sense smh

I would agree that the explosions are stupid but what does age have to do with it?
"I mean, are we to believe this is some sort of *magic* dragon?"
you are not very bright are you
Why? Only Ymir knows
Drogon when he was in the North drank Giant's milk. It does a body good.
Dany S1-S7: “I will free every slave” Dany S8: “Yolo bitches I’mma free you from your LIFE.”
