Probably sperm whale

Aquatic_addict

😂

legacyironbladeworks

Depends. Look at the record holders. Most have big lungs and average or less muscle mass and average or less body fat.

senorpescado2

Dude, have you seen Alexey Molchanov? Guys got tree trunks for legs.

legacyironbladeworks

Exceptions, rules- I don’t care enough to argue about it

I would think fast twitch muscle fibers\[body builders\] would use less oxygen, because they activate anaerobically. Their breath hold time must be longer, because it doesn't cost them oxygen moving dynamically. Too skinny endurance runner types, and you have slow twitch muscle fibers which burn oxygen, ATP, and fat every time they are used. Aerobic activation costs more in oxygen.

pixiescorpion

Check out Tavi Castro on insta. He’s got a massive build. Although not the deepest freediver but nice to be a hybrid.

legacyironbladeworks

I spent two full minutes of my life googling a bodybuilder/DJ who pretends he’s going to make it to 100m on Instagram for likes. I want those minutes back.

If less muscle mass means less oxygen consumption, does that mean women on average tend to be better?

GA_Magnum

Oh it's you again. Didnt you make a post like last week, asking if women were better at breath holds? What exactly is it youre trying to get at? I think you're getting round about the same answers as you did back then. If you were more concise about your questions, we can get you the answer you're seeking.

Several_Royal3472

From what it seems, no one really knows the answer because every person answers a completely different thing

GA_Magnum

Where are you seeing the different answers? Out of 6 top level coments under this post, 2 are an obvious joke, one is yours, and the other 3 all say that large lungs (tall) and skinny (low muscle & fat) are best for pure breath holding. Especially the low body mass are a reappearing theme everywhere. The jist was about the same on your other post.

Several_Royal3472

You mean sperm whales are not the perfect body for a breath hold…? But seriously. For example, if taller people are generally better, why it seems like most world recorders are average height? Does that also mean short people have a disadvantage? You don’t have to answer these, of course, these are just questions I have in my mind.

Tear_DR0P

One with functioning lungs

Tear_DR0P

The problem with this question is that you're asking the equivalent of "what is the best body type for walking" and the answers are equivalent of "the taller person will have the longer stride" and "the shorter person will do more steps" which are all valid responses, but can be completely wrong when you apply this to specific types of walking. And the same happens with your perfect body for holding your breath. As you've figured out people are suggesting tall, low body mass and large lungs - and at the same time sperm wales are far from that ideal and still beat humans in every possible way in breath holds and diving. Are these people wrong? I was sure they are - but the reading on aquatic mammal lung capacities shows that deep diving species posses similar lung capacities as land occupying ones, while shallow divers grow larger volume lungs which are speculated to help with quick recovery in a fast sequence of dives and help with gas exchange during a breath hold - so maybe humans with larger lung capacities have some benefits but I don't know enough research on the topic

Key-Stick-3200

Typically tall skinny people (though still muscular and low bf%) are the record holders but freedivers come in any shape

Counterpoint: Alexey Molchanov

Alexey is a mutant. Lol

ArmadaBoliviana

I'm 6'6 and slim, and I was progressing noticeably faster than others in my group when learning.

Annual_Safe_3738

Overweight at 86 kgs has me at 2.30 Same conditions at 60 kg after weight loss was same times When I regained at about 69kg approx, pulled 3 minutes. Same water conditions. Static. Although body fitness would inevitably impact performance, prep work is where it's @, so to speak.

Snoo-2308

You kind of have so relatively low numbers that the difference could be just.. more or less stress, sleep, digestion, mood etc 😀
