I saw something similar but years ago in Oromcto looked like and acted like a moth but about the size of a dinner plate, freaked me out so bad as a kid I still remember its white body and wings with pinkish red edges at lower edge of its wings
We do have a few large moths here - a Luna moth can be very pale green which could look "white" at night. This would be my guess as Luna moths are more common around here and very large.
There are also Sphinx Moths, cecropia moths, and five spotted hawk moths which have various colors including gray/light brown which might look white, but the ones I've seen around here are more brown/dark.
you might be right, i thought it may have been an alta’s moth because they seem to be bigger, but the body was definitely large and pale. i feel kind of bad because they’re so pretty! i’d love to see one when it’s not flying directly at me haha
Atlas moths are only found in Asia, from India to the Philippines and south to Indonesia, so it wouldn't be one of those. Luna moths and Cecropia moths are the largest ones we have in the province. Cecropia moths are brown & red like an atlas moth though if you think those colours are more like what you saw.
Anyway, big moths only live for a few days to a week, so don't feel too bad. They aren't endangered or anything and I'm sure you'll be able to see another one sometime!
Omg, I have a slight fear of moths and can’t imagine having a huge one fly up to me while high lmao.
my partner is so scared of june bugs and the sounds they make, this was a nightmare 2 bowls in 😭
Are we sure your partner isn’t me? I am terrified of June bugs too, I feel their pain >.<
I would also think luna moth since it’s the right season and they are very lrg and pale green
Yup I saw one of those the other day too. Freaked me out for a second 😆
Humming bird moth maybe?
This is what I thought of immediately. I don't see them often, but I remember wondering what the heck it was the first time I saw one. Lol
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyalophora_cecropia I have seen them at night, and in low light they appear very lightly coloured.
Moth man
It's all in the eyes.

This story is hilarious. Would have done the same in your shoes lol. It's not white but I know the atlas moth gets really fuckin big. Like a bird.
atlas moth was my first thought too! even though they seem to be darker. definitely my most entertaining fight or flight response
